J/Ψat high temperatures in anisotropic lattice QCD

J/Ψand η_c above the QCD critical temperature T_c are studied in anisotropic quenched lattice QCD, considering whether the c\bar c systems above T_c are compact quasi-bound states or scattering states. We adopt the standard Wilson gauge action and O(a)-improved Wilson quark action with renormalized anisotropy a_s/a_t =4 at β=6.10 on 16^3\times (14-26) lattices, which correspond to the spatial lattice volume V\equiv L^3\simeq(1.55{\rm fm})^3 and temperatures T\simeq(1.11-2.07)T_c. To clarify whether compact charmonia survive in the deconfinement phase, we investigate spatial boundary-condition dependence of the energy of the c\bar c systems above T_c. In fact, for low-lying c \bar c scattering states, there appears a significant energy difference ΔE \equiv E{\rm (APBC)}-E{\rm (PBC)} between periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions as ΔE\simeq2\sqrt{m_c^2+3π^2/L^2}-2m_c (m_c: charm quark mass) on the finite-volume lattice. In contrast, for compact charmonia, there is no significant energy difference between periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions. As a lattice QCD result, we find almost no spatial boundary-condition dependence for the energy of the c\bar c system in J/Ψand η_c channels for T\simeq(1.11-2.07)T_c, which indicates that J/Ψand η_c would survive as compact c\bar c quasi-bound states below 2T_c.

Lattice QCD Study for Confinement and Hadrons

Using SU(3) lattice QCD, we perform the detailed studies of the three-quark and the multi-quark potentials. From the accurate calculation for more than 300 different patterns of 3Q systems, the static ground-state 3Q potential $V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm g.s.}$ is found to be well described by the Coulomb plus Y-type linear potential (Y-Ansatz) within 1%-level deviation. As a clear evidence for Y-Ansatz, Y-type flux-tube formation is actually observed on the lattice in maximally-Abelian projected QCD. For about 100 patterns of 3Q systems, we perform the accurate calculation for the 1st excited-state 3Q potential $V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm e.s.}$ by diagonalizing the QCD Hamiltonian in the presence of three quarks, and find a large gluonic-excitation energy $ΔE_{\rm 3Q} \equiv V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm e.s.}-V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm g.s.}$ of about 1 GeV, which gives a physical reason of the success of the quark model. $ΔE_{\rm 3Q}$ is found to be reproduced by the ``inverse Mercedes Ansatz'', which indicates a complicated bulk excitation for the gluonic-excitation mode. We study also the tetra-quark and the penta-quark potentials in lattice QCD, and find that they are well described by the OGE Coulomb plus multi-Y type linear potential, which supports the flux-tube picture even for the multi-quarks.

Detailed Analysis of the Tetraquark Potential and Flip-Flop in SU(3) Lattice QCD

We perform the detailed study of the tetraquark (4Q) potential $V_{\rm 4Q}$ for various QQ-$\rm \bar{Q}\bar{Q}$ systems in SU(3) lattice QCD with $β=6.0$ and $16^3 \times 32$ at the quenched level. For about 200 different patterns of 4Q systems, $V_{\rm 4Q}$ is extracted from the 4Q Wilson loop in 300 gauge configurations, with the smearing method to enhance the ground-state component. We calculate $V_{\rm 4Q}$ for planar, twisted, asymmetric, and large-size 4Q configurations, respectively. Here, the calculation for large-size 4Q configurations is done by identifying $16^2 \times 32$ as the spatial size and 16 as the temporal one, and the long-distance confinement force is particularly analyzed in terms of the flux-tube picture. When QQ and $\rm \bar{Q}\bar{Q}$ are well separated, $V_{\rm 4Q}$ is found to be expressed as the sum of the one-gluon-exchange Coulomb term and multi-Y type linear term based on the flux-tube picture. When the nearest quark and antiquark pair is spatially close, the system is described as a "two-meson" state. We observe a flux-tube recombination called as "flip-flop" between the connected 4Q state and the "two-meson" state around the level-crossing point. This leads to infrared screening of the long-range color forces between (anti)quarks belonging to different mesons, and results in the absence of the color van der Waals force between two mesons.

Role of Large Gluonic Excitation Energy for Narrow Width of Penta-Quark Baryons in QCD String Theory

We study the narrow decay width of low-lying penta-quark baryons in the QCD string theoryin terms of gluonic excitations. In the QCD string theory, the penta-quark baryon decays via a gluonic-excited state of a baryon and meson system, where a pair of Y-shaped junction and anti-junction is created. Since lattice QCD shows that the lowest gluonic-excitation energy takes a large value of about 1 GeV, the decay of the penta-quark baryon near the threshold is considered as a quantum tunneling process via a highly-excited state (a gluonic-excited state) in the QCD string theory. This mechanism strongly suppresses the decay and leads to an extremely narrow decay width of the penta-quark system.

Finally, the narrow decay width of penta-quark baryons is discussed in terms of the QCD string theory.

Narrow Width of Penta-Quark Baryons in QCD String Theory

Using the QCD string theory, we investigate the physical reason of the narrow width of penta-quark baryons in terms of the large gluonic-excitation energy. In the QCD string theory, the penta-quark baryon decays via a gluonic-excited state of a baryon and meson system, where a pair of Y-shaped junction and anti-junction is created. On the other hand, we find in lattice QCD that the lowest gluonic-excitation energy takes a large value of about 1 GeV. Therefore, in the QCD string theory, the decay of the penta-quark baryon near the threshold is considered as a quantum tunneling process via a highly-excited state (a gluonic-excited state), which leads to an extremely narrow decay width of the penta-quark system.

Lattice-QCD based Schwinger-Dyson approach for Chiral Phase Transition

Dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking in QCD is studied with the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) formalism based on lattice QCD data, i.e., LQCD-based SD formalism. We extract the SD kernel function $K(p^2)$ in an Ansatz-independent manner from the lattice data of the quark propagator in the Landau gauge. As remarkable features, we find infrared vanishing and intermediate enhancement of the SD kernel function $K(p^2)$. We apply the LQCD-based SD equation to thermal QCD with the quark chemical potential $μ_q$. We find chiral symmetry restoration at $T_c \simeq 100{\rm MeV}$ for $μ_q=0$. The real part of the quark mass function decreases as $T$ and $μ_q$. At finite density, there appears the imaginary part of the quark mass function, which would lead to the width broadening of hadrons.

The Static Penta-quark Potential in Lattice QCD

We perform the first study for the static penta-quark (5Q) potential in lattice QCD with $β$=6.0 and $16^3 \times 32$ at the quenched level. Accurate results of the 5Q potential are extracted from the 5Q Wilson loop using the smearing method, which enhances the ground-state component. The tetra-quark potential for the $\rm QQ$-$\rm {\bar Q}{\bar Q}$ system is also studied in lattice QCD. The multi-quark potentials are found to be well described as a sum of the one-gluon-exchange Coulomb term and the multi-Y linear confinement term based on the flux-tube picture.

The lattice QCD simulation of the quark-gluon mixed condensate g<\bar{q} σG q> at finite temperature and the phase transition of QCD

The thermal effects on the quark-gluon mixed condensate g<\bar{q} σG q>, which is another chiral order parameter, are studied using the SU(3)c lattice QCD with the Kogut-Susskind fermion at the quenched level. We perform the accurate measurement of the mixed condensate as well as the quark condensate for 0MeV<=T<=500MeV. We observe the sharp decrease of both the condensates around T_c \simeq 280MeV, while the thermal effects below T_c are found to be weak. We also find that the ratio m_0^2 = g<\bar{q} σG q>/<\bar{q}q> is almost independent of the temperature even in the very vicinity of T_c, which indicates that the two condensates have nontrivial similarity in the chiral behaviors. We also present the correlation between the condensates and the Polyakov loop to understand the vacuum structure of QCD.

Gluonic Higgs Scalar, Abelianization and Monopoles in QCD -- Similarity and Difference between QCD in the MA Gauge and the NAH Theory

We study the similarity and the difference between QCD in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge and the nonabelian Higgs (NAH) theory by introducing the ``gluonic Higgs scalar field'' $\vec ϕ(x)$ corresponding to the ``color-direction'' of the nonabelian gauge connection. The infrared-relevant gluonic mode in QCD can be extracted by the projection along the color-direction $\vec ϕ(x)$ like the NAH theory. This projection is manifestly gauge-invariant, and is mathematically equivalent to the ordinary MA projection. Since $\vec ϕ(x)$ obeys the adjoint gauge transformation and is diagonalized in the MA gauge, $\vec ϕ(x)$ behaves as the Higgs scalar in the NAH theory, and its hedgehog singularity provides the magnetic monopole in the MA gauge like the NAH theory. We observe this direct correspondence between the monopole appearing in the MA gauge and the hedgehog singularity of $\vec ϕ(x)$ in lattice QCD, when the gluon field is continuous as in the SU($N_c$) Landau gauge. In spite of several similarities, QCD in the MA gauge largely differs from the NAH theory in the two points: one is infrared monopole condensation, and the other is infrared enhancement of the abelian correlation due to monopole condensation.

Abelianization of QCD in the Maximally Abelian Gauge and the Nambu-'t Hooft Picture for Color Confinement

We study the Nambu-'t Hooft picture for color confinement in terms of the abelianization of QCD and monopole condensation in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge. In the MA gauge in the Euclidean metric, the off-diagonal gluon amplitude is strongly suppressed, and then the off-diagonal gluon phase shows strong randomness, which leads to rapid reduction of the off-diagonal gluon correlation. In SU(2) and SU(3) lattice QCD in the MA gauge with the abelian Landau gauge, the Euclidean gluon propagator indicates a large effective mass of the off-diagonal gluon as $M_{\rm off} \simeq 1 {\rm GeV}$ in the intermediate distance as $0.2{\rm fm} \le r \le 0.8{\rm fm}$. Due to the infrared inactiveness of off-diagonal gluons, infrared QCD is well abelianized like nonabelian Higgs theories in the MA gauge. We investigate the inter-monopole potential and the dual gluon field $B_μ$ in the MA gauge, and find longitudinal magnetic screening with $m_B \simeq$ 0.5 GeV in the infrared region, which indicates the dual Higgs mechanism by monopole condensation. We define the ``gluonic Higgs scalar field'' providing the MA projection, and find the correspondence between its hedgehog singularity and the monopole location in lattice QCD.

Y-type Flux-Tube Formation and Gluonic Excitations in Baryons: From QCD to Quark Model

Using SU(3) lattice QCD, we perform the first systematic study for the ground-state three-quark (3Q) potential $V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm g.s.}$ and the 1st excited-state 3Q potential $V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm e.s.}$, {\it i.e.}, the energies of the ground state and the 1st excited state of the gluon field in the presence of the static three quarks. From the accurate and thorough calculation for more than 300 different patterns of 3Q systems, the static ground-state 3Q potential $V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm g.s.}$ is found to be well described by the Coulomb plus Y-type linear potential, {\it i.e.}, Y-Ansatz, within 1%-level deviation. As a clear evidence for Y-Ansatz, Y-type flux-tube formation is actually observed on the lattice in maximally-Abelian projected QCD. For more than 100 patterns of 3Q systems, we calculate the 1st excited-state 3Q potential $V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm e.s.}$ in quenched lattice QCD, and find the gluonic excitation energy $ΔE_{\rm 3Q} \equiv V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm e.s.}-V_{\rm 3Q}^{\rm g.s.}$ to be about 1 GeV. This large gluonic-excitation energy is conjectured to ensure the success of the quark model for the low-lying hadrons even without gluonic excitations.

First Study for the Pentaquark Potential in SU(3) Lattice QCD

The static penta-quark (5Q) potential $V_{\rm 5Q}$ is studied in SU(3) lattice QCD with $16^3\times 32$ and $β$=6.0 at the quenched level. From the 5Q Wilson loop, $V_{\rm 5Q}$ is calculated in a gauge-invariant manner, with the smearing method to enhance the ground-state component. $V_{\rm 5Q}$ is well described by the OGE plus multi-Y Ansatz: a sum of the OGE Coulomb term and the multi-Y-type linear term proportional to the minimal total length of the flux-tube linking the five quarks. Comparing with ${\rm Q \bar Q}$ and 3Q potentials, we find a universality of the string tension, $σ_{\rm Q \bar Q} \simeq σ_{\rm 3Q} \simeq σ_{\rm 5Q}$, and the OGE result for Coulomb coefficients.

Thermal effects on quark-gluon mixed condensate g<\bar{q} σG q> from lattice QCD

We present the first study of the thermal effects on the quark-gluon mixed condensate g<\bar{q} σG q>, which is another chiral order parameter, in SU(3)c lattice QCD with the Kogut-Susskind fermion at the quenched level. Using the lattices at β=6.0, 6.1, 6.2 in high statistics, we calculate the mixed condensate as well as the quark condensate in the chiral limit for the temperature 0MeV <= T <= 500MeV. Except for the sharp decrease of both the condensates around T_c \simeq 280MeV, the thermal effects are found to be weak below T_c. We also find that the ratio m_0^2 = g<\bar{q} σG q>/ <\bar{q}q> is almost independent of the temperature even in the very vicinity of T_c. This result indicates nontrivial similarity in the chiral behaviors of the two different condensates.

Properties of Thermal Glueballs

We study the properties of the 0++ glueball at finite temperature using SU(3) quenched lattice QCD. We find a significant thermal effects near T_c. We perform the χ^2 fit analyses adopting two Ansaetze for the spectral function, i.e., the conventional narrow-peak Ansatz and an advanced Breit-Wigner Ansatz. The latter is an extension of the former, taking account of the appearance of the thermal width at T>0. We also perform the MEM analysis. These analyses indicate that the thermal effect on the glueball is a significant thermal-width broadening Γ(T_c) \sim 300 MeV together with a modest reduction in the peak center Δω_0(T_c) \sim 100 MeV.

Dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking at T=0 and $T \ne 0$ in the Schwinger-Dyson equation with lattice QCD data

For the study of dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking (DCSB) in QCD, we investigate the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) formalism based on lattice QCD data. From the quenched lattice data for the quark propagator in the Landau gauge, we extract the SD kernel function K(p^2), which is the product of the quark-gluon vertex and the polarization factor in the gluon propagator, in an Ansatz-independent manner. We find that the SD kernel function K(p^2) exhibits infrared vanishing and a large enhancement at the intermediate-energy region around p \sim 0.6GeV. We investigate the relation between the SD kernel and the quark mass function, and find that the infrared and intermediate energy region (0.35GeV<p<1.5GeV) would be relevant for DCSB. We apply the lattice-QCD-based SD equation to thermal QCD, and calculate the quark mass function at the finite temperature. Spontaneously broken chiral symmetry is found to be restored at the high temperature above 100MeV.

The Study of Chiral Restoration using the Quark-Gluon Mixed Condensate g<\bar{q} σG q> in Lattice QCD at Finite Temperature

The quark-gluon mixed condensate g<\bar{q} σG q> is studied using SU(3)c lattice QCD with the Kogut-Susskind fermion at the quenched level. Using the lattices as β= 6.0 with 16^3 * N_t (N_t=16,12,10,8,6,4), β= 6.1 with 20^3 * N_t (N_t=20,12,10,8,6) and β= 6.2 with 24^3 * N_t (N_t=24,16,12,10,8) in high statistics of 100-1000 gauge configurations, we perform accurate measurement of the thermal effects on g<\bar{q} σG q> as well as <\bar{q}q> in the chiral limit. We find that the thermal effects on both the condensates are very weak except for the vicinity of T_c, while both the condensates suddenly vanish around T_c \simeq 280 MeV, which indicates strong chiral restoration near T_c. We also find that the ratio m_0^2 = g<\bar{q} σG q>/ <\bar{q}q> is almost independent of the temperature even in the very vicinity of T_c, which means that these two different condensates obey the same critical behavior. This nontrivial similarity between them would impose constraints on the chiral structure of the QCD vacuum near T_c.
