Consideration on the relationship of theoretical ultraviolet cut-off energy with experimental data

We formulated a field theory in space-time elements, which are obtained by dividing the space-time continuum into arbitrary-shaped space-time elements, such as hyper-octahedra (orthoplexes), which are aligned locally periodically, without long-range order. Each field is expressed in terms of scalar expansion functions with rotationally covariant coefficients. The cosmological constant was related to the cut-off energy of the quadratic Higgs self-energy. From the literature, examinations find an experimental break in the cosmic ray energy spectrum called 'knee' at about 3 [PeV], which agrees with this theoretical ultraviolet cut-off energy. Moreover, the expansion functions are updated to plane waves using the Lorentz/Poincaré covariant/invariant inner product of vectors with each four-momentum within the cut-off energy. Due to the long-range disordered alignment of space-time elements, this study newly introduces an effective field, which is not in the standard model and lies within the Planck energy. Particles are then rarely excited to the energy region between the cut-off energy and the Planck energy via extremely weak interaction solely with the effective field. The theoretical ultraviolet cut-off energy is consistent with the experimental phenomena such as the stability of our Universe, inflation in the early Universe and no detection of neutrinos above PeV-order energy.

Measurement of energy differential spectrum of cosmic-ray muons below 400 MeV

Recent applications of cosmic-ray muons require accurate modeling of their flux at low-energy. However, no measurement has been reported below 400 MeV. Therefore, we developed a full-absorption muon energy spectrometer to obtain energy differential flux below 400 MeV. Because our main detector can measure muon energies below 75 MeV, an energy degradation method is adopted (using 5- and 20-cm thick lead blocks) to shift the sensitive energy range. Three measurements were performed (in the normal mode and the two energy degrading modes) for 10 and 11 days each. The measurement results were compared with an analytical cosmic-ray model, PARMA (the particle and heavy ion transport code system-based analytical radiation model in the atmosphere) and we found that the model can precisely predict the lower energy part of the flux.

Derivation of the cutoff length from the quantum quadratic enhancement of a mass in vacuum energy constant Lambda

Ultraviolet self-interaction energies in field theory sometimes contain meaningful physical quantities. The self-energies in such as classical electrodynamics are usually subtracted from the rest mass. For the consistent treatment of energies as sources of curvature in the Einstein field equations, this study includes these subtracted self-energies into vacuum energy expressed by the constant Lambda (used in such as Lambda-CDM). In this study, the self-energies in electrodynamics and macroscopic classical Einstein field equations are examined, using the formalisms with the ultraviolet cutoff scheme. One of the cutoff formalisms is the field theory in terms of the step-function-type basis functions, developed by the present authors. The other is a continuum theory of a fundamental particle with the same cutoff length. Based on the effectiveness of the continuum theory with the cutoff length shown in the examination, the dominant self-energy is the quadratic term of the Higgs field at a quantum level (classical self-energies are reduced to logarithmic forms by quantum corrections). The cutoff length is then determined to reproduce today's tiny value of Lambda for vacuum energy. Additionally, a field with nonperiodic vanishing boundary conditions is treated, showing that the field has no zero-point energy.

The superspace representation of Super Yang-Mills theory on NCG

A few years ago, we found the supersymmetric(SUSY) counterpart of the spectral triple which specified noncommutative geometry(NCG). Based on "the triple", we considered the SUSY version of the spectral action principle and had derived the action of super Yang--Mills theory, minimal supersymmetric standard model, and supergravity. In these theories, we used vector notation in order to express a chiral or an anti-chiral matter superfield. We also represented the NCG algebra and the Dirac operator by matrices which operated on the space of matter field. In this paper, we represent the triple in the superspace coordinate system $(x^μ,θ,\barθ)$. We also introduce "extracting operators" and the new definition of the supertrace so that we can also investigate the square of the Dirac operator on the Minkowskian manifold in the superspace. We finally re-construct the super Yang--Mills theory on NCG in the superspace coordinate to which we are familiar to describe SUSY theories.

Toward construction of a consistent field theory with Poincare covariance in terms of step-function-type basis functions showing confinement/deconfinement, mass-gap and Regge trajectory for non-pure/pure non-Abelian gauge fields

This article is a review by the authors concerning the construction of a Poincar${\rm \acute{e}}$ covariant (owing to spacetime continuum) field-theoretic formalism in terms of step-function-type basis functions without ultraviolet divergences. This formalism analytically derives confinement/deconfinement, mass-gap and Regge trajectory for non-Abelian gauge fields, and gives solutions for self-interacting scalar fields. Fields propagate in spacetime continuum and fields with finite degrees of freedom toward continuum limit have no ultraviolet divergence. Basis functions defined in a parameter spacetime are mapped to real spacetime. The authors derive a new solution comprised of classical fields as a vacuum and quantum fluctuations, leading to the linear potential between the particle and antiparticle from the Wilson loop. The Polyakov line gives finite binding energies and reveals the deconfining property at high temperatures. The quantum action yields positive mass from the classical fields and quantum fluctuations produces the Coulomb potential. Pure Yang-Mills fields show the same mass-gap owing to the particle-antiparticle pair creation. The Dirac equation under linear potential is analytically solved in this formalism, reproducing the principal properties of Regge trajectories at a quantum level. Further outlook mentions a possibility of the difference between conventional continuum and present wave functions responsible for the cosmological constant.

BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 (x = 0.22-0.42) thin films grown on practical metal-tape substrates and their critical current densities

We optimized the substrate temperature (Ts) and phosphorus concentration (x) of BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 films on practical metal-tape substrates for pulsed laser deposition from the viewpoints of crystallinity, superconductor critical temperature (Tc), and critical current density (Jc). It was found that the optimum Ts and x values are 1050 degree C and x = 0.28, respectively. The optimized film exhibits Tc_onset = 26.6 and Tc_zero = 22.4 K along with a high self-field Jc at 4 K (~1 MA/cm2) and relatively isotropic Jc under magnetic fields up to 9 T. Unexpectedly, we found that lower crystallinity samples, which were grown at a higher Ts of 1250 degree C than the optimized Ts = 1050 degree C, exhibit higher Jc along the ab plane under high magnetic fields than the optimized samples. The presence of horizontal defects that act as strong vortex pinning centers, such as stacking faults, are a possible origin of the high Jc values in the poor crystallinity samples.

High-field transport properties of a P-doped BaFe2As2 film on technical substrate

High temperature (high-Tc) superconductors like cuprates have superior critical current properties in magnetic fields over other superconductors. However, superconducting wires for high-field-magnet applications are still dominated by low-Tc Nb3Sn due probably to cost and processing issues. The recent discovery of a second class of high-Tc materials, Fe-based superconductors, may provide another option for high-field-magnet wires. In particular, AEFe2As2 (AE: Alkali earth elements, AE-122) is one of the best candidates for high-field-magnet applications because of its high upper critical field, Hc2, moderate Hc2 anisotropy, and intermediate Tc. Here we report on in-field transport properties of P-doped BaFe2As2 (Ba-122) thin films grown on technical substrates (i.e., biaxially textured oxides templates on metal tapes) by pulsed laser deposition. The P-doped Ba-122 coated conductor sample exceeds a transport Jc of 10^5 A/cm^2 at 15 T for both major crystallographic directions of the applied magnetic field, which is favourable for practical applications. Our P-doped Ba-122 coated conductors show a superior in-field Jc over MgB2 and NbTi, and a comparable level to Nb3Sn above 20 T. By analysing the E-J curves for determining Jc, a non-Ohmic linear differential signature is observed at low field due to flux flow along the grain boundaries. However, grain boundaries work as flux pinning centres as demonstrated by the pinning force analysis.

Supergravity on the noncommutative geometry

Two years ago, we found the supersymmetric counterpart of the spectral triple which specified noncommutative geometry. Based on the triple, we derived gauge vector supermultiplets, Higgs supermultiplets of the minimum supersymmetric standard model and its action. However, unlike the famous theories of Connes and his co-workers, the action does not couple to gravity. In this paper, we obtain the supersymmetric Dirac operator $\mathcal{D}_M^{(SG)}$ on the Riemann-Cartan curved space replacing derivatives which appear in that of the triple with the covariant derivatives of general coordinate transformation. We apply the supersymmetric version of the spectral action principle and investigate the heat kernel expansion on the square of the Dirac operator. As a result, we obtain a new supergravity action which does not include the Ricci curvature tensor.

Enhanced critical-current in P-doped BaFe2As2 thin films on metal substrates arising from poorly aligned grain boundaries

Thin films of the iron-based superconductor BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 (Ba122:P) were fabricated on polycrystalline metal-tape substrates with two kinds of in-plane grain boundary alignments (well aligned (4 deg.) and poorly aligned (8 deg.)) by pulsed laser deposition. The poorly aligned substrate is not applicable to cuprate-coated conductors because the in-plane alignment >4 deg. results in exponential decay of the critical current density (Jc). The Ba122:P film exhibited higher Jc at 4 K when grown on the poorly aligned substrate than on the well-aligned substrate even though the crystallinity was poorer. It was revealed that the misorientation angles of the poorly aligned samples were less than 6 deg., which are less than the critical angle of an iron-based superconductor, cobalt-doped BaFe2As2 (~9 deg.), and the observed strong pinning in the Ba122:P is attributed to the high-density grain boundaries with the misorientation angles smaller than the critical angle. This result reveals a distinct advantage over cuprate-coated conductors because well-aligned metal-tape substrates are not necessary for practical applications of the iron-based superconductors.

Novel solid-phase epitaxy for multi-component materials with extremely high vapor pressure elements: An application to KFe2As2

We propose a novel solid-phase epitaxy technique applicable to high annealing temperatures up to 1000 C without re-vaporization of alkali metal elements with high vapor pressures. This technique is demonstrated through the successful growth of high-quality KFe2As2 epitaxial films. The key factors are employing a custom-designed alumina vessel/cover and sealing it in a stainless tube with a large amount of atmospheric KFe2As2 powder in tightly closed sample spaces. This technique can also be effective for other materials composed of elements with very high vapor pressures, such as alkali metals, and can lead to the realization of spintronics devices in the future using KFe2As2.

Electric field-induced superconducting transition of insulating FeSe thin film at 35 K

It is thought that strong electron correlation in an insulating parent phase would enhance a critical temperature (Tc) of superconductivity in a doped phase via enhancement of the binding energy of a Cooper pair as known in high-Tc cuprates. To induce a superconductor transition in an insulating phase, injection of a high density of carriers is needed (e.g., by impurity doping). An electric double-layer transistor (EDLT) with an ionic liquid gate insulator enables such a field-induced transition to be investigated and is expected to result in a high Tc because it is free from deterioration in structure and carrier transport that are in general caused by conventional carrier doping (e.g., chemical substitution). Here, for insulating epitaxial thin films (~10 nm thick) of FeSe, we report a high Tc of 35 K, which is four times higher than that of bulk FeSe, using an EDLT under application of a gate bias of +5.5 V. Hall effect measurements under the gate bias suggest that highly accumulated electron carrier in the channel, whose area density is estimated to be 1.4x10^15 cm-2 (the average volume density of 1.7x10^21 cm-3), is the origin of the high-Tc superconductivity. This result demonstrates that EDLTs are useful tools to explore the ultimate Tc for insulating parent materials.

Analytic eigenenergies of the Dirac equation with finite degrees of freedom under a confining linear potential using basis functions localized in spacetime

Considering the propagation of fields in the spacetime continuum and the well-defined features of fields with finite degrees of freedom, the wave function is expanded in terms of a finite set of basis functions localized in spacetime. This paper presents the analytic eigenenergies derived for a confined fundamental fermion-antifermion pair under a linear potential obtained from the Wilson loop for the non-Abelian Yang-Mills field. The Hamiltonian matrix of the Dirac equation is analytically diagonalized using basis functions localized in spacetime. The squared lowest eigenenergy (as a function of the relativistic quantum number when the rotational energy is large compared to the composite particle masses) is proportional to the string tension and the absolute value of the Dirac's relativistic quantum number related to the total angular momentum, consistent with the expectation.

Example of an explicit function for confining classical Yang-Mills fields with quantum fluctuations in the path integral scheme

This article reports an explicit function form for confining classical Yang-Mills vector potentials and quantum fluctuations around the classical field. The classical vector potential, which is composed of a confining localized function and an unlocalized function, satisfies the classical Yang-Mills equation. The confining localized function contributes to the Wilson loop, while the unlocalized function makes no contribution to this loop. The confining linear potential between a heavy fermion and antifermion is due to (1) the Lie algebra and (2) the form of the confining localized function which has opposite signs at the positions of the particle and antiparticle along the Wilson loop in the time direction. Some classical confining parts of vector potentials also change sign on inversion of the coordinates of the axis perpendicular to the axis joining the two particles. The localized parts of the vector potentials are squeezed around the axis connecting the two particles, and the string tension of the confining linear potential is derived. Quantum fluctuations are formulated using a field expression in terms of local basis functions in real spacetime. The quantum path integral gives the Coulomb potential between the two particles in addition to the linear potential due to the classical fields.

High critical-current density with less anisotropy in BaFe2(As,P)2 epitaxial thin films: Effect of intentionally grown c-axis vortex-pinning centers

We report herein a high and isotropic critical-current density Jc for BaFe2(As,P)2 epitaxial films. The isotropy of Jc with respect to the magnetic-field direction was improved significantly by decreasing the film growth rate to 2.2 Å/s. The low growth rate served to preferentially align dislocations along the c-axis, which work well as c-axis vortex-pinning centers. Because of the intentional introduction of effective pinning, the absolute Jc at 9 T was larger than that obtained for other iron-based superconductors and conventional alloy superconducting wires.

Critical factor for epitaxial growth of cobalt-doped BaFe2As2 films by pulsed laser deposition

We heteroepitaxially grew cobalt-doped BaFe2As2 films on (La,Sr)(Al,Ta)O3 single-crystal substrates by pulsed laser deposition using four different wavelengths and investigated how the excitation wavelength and pulse energy affected growth. Using the tilting and twisting angles of X-ray diffraction rocking curves, we quantitatively analyzed the crystallinity of each film. We found that the optimal deposition rate, which could be tuned by pulse energy, was independent of laser wavelength. The high-quality film grown at the optimal pulse energy (i.e., the optimum deposition rate) exhibited high critical current density over 1 MA/cm2 irrespective of the laser wavelength.

Minimum Supersymmetric Standard Model on the Noncommutative Geometry

We have obtained the supersymmetric extension of spectral triple which specify a noncommutative geometry(NCG). We assume that the functional space H constitutes of wave functions of matter fields and their superpartners included in the minimum supersymmetric standard model(MSSM). We introduce the internal fluctuations to the Dirac operator on the manifold as well as on the finite space by elements of the algebra A in the triple. So, we obtain not only the vector supermultiplets which meditate SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1)_Y gauge degrees of freedom but also Higgs supermultiplets which appear in MSSM on the same standpoint. Accoding to the supersymmetric version of the spectral action principle, we calculate the square of the fluctuated total Dirac operator and verify that the Seeley-DeWitt coeffients give the correct action of MSSM. We also verify that the relation between coupling constants of $SU(3)$,$SU(2)$ and $U(1)_Y$ is same as that of SU(5) unification theory.

Supersymmetric Dirac Operator on the Noncommutative Geometry

We extend naturally the spectral triple which define noncommutative geometry (NCG) in order to incorporate supersymmetry and obtain supersymmetric Dirac operator D_M which acts on Minkowskian manifold. Inversely, we can consider the projection which reducts D_M to $\not{D}$, the Dirac operator of the original spectral triple. We investigate properties of the Dirac operator, some of which are inherited from the original Dirac operator. Z/2 grading and real structure are also supersymmetrically extended. Using supersymmetric invariant product, the kinematic terms of chiral and antichiral supermultiplets which represent the wave functions of matter particles and their superpartners are provided by D_M. Considering the fluctuation given by elements of the algebra to the extended Dirac operator, we can expect to obtain vector supermultiplet which includes gauge field and to obtain super Yang-Mills theory according to the supersymmetric version of spectral action principle.
