The maximum entropy principle of self-gravitating fluid system and field equations

We investigate the maximum entropy principle for general field theory, including a metric tensor $g_{ μν}$, a vector field $A_{ μ}$, and a scalar field $φ$ as the fundamental fields, and find (i) imposing an ordinary constraint relation on $\varepsilon$, the field equations, which is constructed of the Euler-Lagrange derivative of an arbitrary Lagrangian density, the stress tensor of a perfect fluid, and the electric current vector, in ordinary manner, are compatible with the maximum entropy principle, and (ii) varying also the constraint relation on $\varepsilon$, the maximum entropy principle requires an extra scalar field $η$, which is introduced as the difference from the ordinary constraint relation on $\varepsilon$. The field $η$ is also interpreted as the difference between two geometries, i.e., one is the geometry, defined by $g_{ μν}$, in which the thermodynamical relations are written in the ordinary and simplest form, and the other is the geometry, defined by $$\tilde g_{ μν} = e^{ 2 η} g_{ μν},$$ in which a force-free fluid flows along a geodesic orbit, instead the thermodynamical relations, the first law of thermodynamics and the Gibbs-Duhem relation, are modified. We also calculate the variation of the entropy $δS$ in the Lovelock theory, in which $δS$ is expressed as a linear combination of the variations of the Kodama energy and the size of the system. Finally, with the field $η$ introduced, we propose a set of field equations in the thermodynamical and kinematical geometries, which possesses appropriate scaling properties, and point out that in vacuum spacetime they resemble those of the dilaton gravity in the string and Einstein frame, respectively.

Several solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation in Kerr-Newman spacetime and the BSW effect

We investigate the radial part of the charged massive Klein-Gordon equation in Kerr-Newman spacetime, and in several specific situations, obtain exact solutions by means of essentially hypergeometric functions or their confluent types. Using these global solutions and generally obtained local solutions, we calculate a sort of intensity of the collision of two field excitations, which is a slight generalization of the trace of the stress tensor. We find that when the black hole is nonextremal, the intensity of the collision of two ingoing modes is bounded. However, in the extremal limit, more precisely $\hbar κ_H \rightarrow 0$, the upper bound grows so that when the frequency of one of the two modes satisfies the critical relation, the intensity of the collision at the horizon becomes unboundedly large. Furthermore, the intensity of the collision of ingoing and outgoing modes is always unbounded, as well as in the classical particle theory. Our results suggest that the BSW effect is inherited by the quantum theory.

Phase Transitions of Charged Kerr-AdS Black Holes from Large-N Gauge Theories

We study N =4 super Yang-Mills theories on a three sphere with two kinds of chemical potentials. One is associated with the R-symmetry and the other with the rotational symmetry of S^3 (SO(4) symmetry). These correspond to the charged Kerr-AdS black holes via AdS/CFT. The exact partition functions at zero coupling are computed and the thermodynamical properties are studied. We find a nontrivial gap between the confinement/deconfinement transition line and the boundary of the phase diagram when we include more than four chemical potentials. In the dual gravity, we find such a gap in the phase diagram to study the thermodynamics of the charged Kerr-AdS black hole. This shows that the qualitative phase structures agree between the both sides. We also find that the ratio of the thermodynamical quantities is almost well-known factor 3/4 even at the low temperature.
