Questions on provisional Coulomb branches of $3$-dimensional $\mathcal N=4$ gauge theories

This is a supplement to [arXiv:1503.03676], where an approach towards a mathematically rigorous definition of the Coulomb branch of a $3$-dimensional $\mathcal N=4$ SUSY gauge theory was proposed. We ask questions on their expected properties, especially in relation to the corresponding Higgs branch, partly motivated by the interpretation of the level rank duality in terms of quiver varieties [arXiv:0809.2605] and the symplectic duality [arXiv:1407.0964]. We study questions in a few examples.

Instantons on ALE spaces for classical groups, involutions on quiver varieties, and quantum symmetric pairs

Moduli spaces of instantons on ALE spaces for classical groups are examples of fixed point sets of involutions on quiver varieties, i.e., $σ$-quiver varieties. In 2018 Yiqiang Li considered their equivariant cohomology, and by stable envelope of Maulik-Okounkov, constructed representations of coideal subalgebras of Maulik-Okounkov Yangian, called twisted Yangian. We calculate $K$-matrices as matrices in examples, identified the twisted Yangians with ones studied in other literature, and clarify conditions which we should impose to make them well-defined.

S-dual of Hamiltonian $\mathbf G$ spaces and relative Langlands duality

The S-dual $(\mathbf G^\vee\curvearrowright\mathbf M^\vee)$ of the pair $(\mathbf G\curvearrowright\mathbf M)$ of a smooth affine algebraic symplectic manifold $\mathbf M$ with hamiltonian action of a complex reductive group $\mathbf G$ was introduced implicitly in [arXiv:1706.02112] and explicitly in [arXiv:1807.09038] under the cotangent type assumption. The definition was a modification of the definition of Coulomb branches of gauge theories in [arXiv:1601.03586]. It was motivated by the S-duality of boundary conditions of 4-dimensional $\mathcal N=4$ super Yang-Mills theory, studied by Gaiotto and Witten [arXiv:0807.3720]. It is also relevant to the relative Langlands duality proposed by Ben-Zvi, Sakellaridis and Venkatesh. In this article, we review the definition and properties of S-dual.

Ring objects in the equivariant derived Satake category arising from Coulomb branches (with an appendix by Gus Lonergan)

This is the second companion paper of arXiv:1601.03586. We consider the morphism from the variety of triples introduced in arXiv:1601.03586 to the affine Grassmannian. The direct image of the dualizing complex is a ring object in the equivariant derived category on the affine Grassmannian (equivariant derived Satake category). We show that various constructions in arXiv:1601.03586 work for an arbitrary commutative ring object. The second purpose of this paper is to study Coulomb branches associated with star shaped quivers, which are expected to be conjectural Higgs branches of $3d$ Sicilian theories in type $A$ by arXiv:1007.0992.

Towards a mathematical definition of Coulomb branches of $3$-dimensional $\mathcal N=4$ gauge theories, II

Consider the $3$-dimensional $\mathcal N=4$ supersymmetric gauge theory associated with a compact Lie group $G_c$ and its quaternionic representation $\mathbf M$. Physicists study its Coulomb branch, which is a noncompact hyper-Kähler manifold with an $\mathrm{SU}(2)$-action, possibly with singularities. We give a mathematical definition of the Coulomb branch as an affine algebraic variety with $\mathbb C^\times$-action when $\mathbf M$ is of a form $\mathbf N\oplus\mathbf N^*$, as the second step of the proposal given in arXiv:1503.03676.

Intersection cohomology groups of instanton moduli spaces and cotangent bundles of affine flag varieties

This is an abstract for my talk at the 68th Geometry Symposium on August 31, 2021. It is based on my joint work in progress with Dinakar Muthiah: a conjectural characterization of the equivariant costalk of the intersection cohomology complex of Coulomb branch of a quiver gauge theory at the torus fixed point in terms of conjectural geometric Satake correspondence for Kac-Moody settings. Its proof in affine type A is sketched. See https://www.mathsoc.jp/~geometry/symp_schedule/geometry_symposium_2021.html for the list of titles of the sympoium.

Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture via Zastava spaces

We deduce the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture on the multiplicities of simple modules over a simple complex Lie algebra in Verma modules in category O from the equivariant geometric Satake correspondence and the analysis of torus fixed points in zastava spaces. We make similar speculations for the affine Lie algebras and W-algebras.

Towards geometric Satake correspondence for Kac-Moody algebras -- Cherkis bow varieties and affine Lie algebras of type $A$

We give a provisional construction of the Kac-Moody Lie algebra module structure on the hyperbolic restriction of the intersection cohomology complex of the Coulomb branch of a framed quiver gauge theory, as a refinement of the conjectural geometric Satake correspondence for Kac-Moody algebras proposed in an earlier paper with Braverman, Finkelberg in 2019. This construction assumes several geometric properties of the Coulomb branch under the torus action. These properties are checked in affine type A, via the identification of the Coulomb branch with a Cherkis bow variety established in a joint work with Takayama.

Line bundles over Coulomb branches

This is the third companion paper of arXiv:1601.03586. When a gauge theory has a flavor symmetry group, we construct a partial resolution of the Coulomb branch as a variant of the definition. We identify the partial resolution with a partial resolution of a generalized slice in the affine Grassmannian, Hilbert scheme of points, and resolved Cherkis bow variety for a quiver gauge theory of type ADE or affine type A.

Rozansky-Witten geometry of Coulomb branches and logarithmic knot invariants

By studying Rozansky-Witten theory with non-compact target spaces we find new connections with knot invariants whose physical interpretation was not known. This opens up several new avenues, which include a new formulation of $q$-series invariants of 3-manifolds in terms of affine Grassmannians and a generalization of Akutsu-Deguchi-Ohtsuki knot invariants.

Coulomb branches of quiver gauge theories with symmetrizers

We generalize the mathematical definition of Coulomb branches of $3$-dimensional $\mathcal N=4$ SUSY quiver gauge theories in arXiv:1503.03676, arXiv:1601.03686, arXiv:1604.03625 to the cases with symmetrizers. We obtain generalized affine Grassmannian slices of type $BCFG$ as examples of the construction, and their deformation quantizations via truncated shifted Yangians. Finally, we study modules over these quantizations and relate them to the lower triangular part of the quantized enveloping algebra of type $ADE$.

Euler numbers of Hilbert schemes of points on simple surface singularities and quantum dimensions of standard modules of quantum affine algebras

We prove the conjecture by Gyenge, Némethi and Szendrői in arXiv:1512.06844, arXiv:1512.06848 giving a formula of the generating function of Euler numbers of Hilbert schemes of points $\operatorname{Hilb}^n(\mathbb C^2/Γ)$ on a simple singularity $\mathbb C^2/Γ$, where $Γ$ is a finite subgroup of $\mathrm{SL}(2)$. We deduce it from the claim that quantum dimensions of standard modules for the quantum affine algebra associated with $Γ$ at $ζ= \exp(\frac{2πi}{2(h^\vee+1)})$ are always $1$, which is a special case of a conjecture by Kuniba [Kun93]. Here $h^\vee$ is the dual Coxeter number. We also prove the claim, which was not known for $E_7$, $E_8$ before.

Coproduct for the Yangian of an affine Kac-Moody algebra

Given an affine Kac-Moody algebra, we explain how to construct a coproduct for its associated Yangian. In order to prove that this coproduct is an algebra homomorphism, we obtain, in the first half of this paper, a minimalistic presentation of the Yangian when the Kac-Moody algebra is, more generally, symmetrizable.

3d TQFTs from Argyres-Douglas theories

We construct a new class of three-dimensional topological quantum field theories (3d TQFTs) by considering generalized Argyres-Douglas theories on $S^1 \times M_3$ with a non-trivial holonomy of a discrete global symmetry along the $S^1$. For the minimal choice of the holonomy, the resulting 3d TQFTs are non-unitary and semisimple, thus distinguishing themselves from theories of Chern-Simons and Rozansky-Witten types respectively. Changing the holonomy performs a Galois transformation on the TQFT, which can sometimes give rise to more familiar unitary theories such as the $(G_2)_1$ and $(F_4)_1$ Chern-Simons theories. Our construction is based on an intriguing relation between topologically twisted partition functions, wild Hitchin characters, and chiral algebras which, when combined together, relate Coulomb branch and Higgs branch data of the same 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ theory. We test our proposal by applying localization techniques to the conjectural $\mathcal{N}=1$ UV Lagrangian descriptions of the $(A_1,A_2)$, $(A_1,A_3)$ and $(A_1,D_3)$ theories.

Coulomb branches of $3d$ $\mathcal N=4$ quiver gauge theories and slices in the affine Grassmannian (with appendices by Alexander Braverman, Michael Finkelberg, Joel Kamnitzer, Ryosuke Kodera, Hiraku Nakajima, Ben Webster, and Alex Weekes)

This is a companion paper of arXiv:1601.03586. We study Coulomb branches of unframed and framed quiver gauge theories of type $ADE$. In the unframed case they are isomorphic to the moduli space of based rational maps from ${\mathbb C}P^1$ to the flag variety. In the framed case they are slices in the affine Grassmannian and their generalization. In the appendix, written jointly with Joel Kamnitzer, Ryosuke Kodera, Ben Webster, and Alex Weekes, we identify the quantized Coulomb branch with the truncated shifted Yangian.
