From Zero to Mega-Gauss Fields: Comprehensive Magnetophotonic Spectroscopy of Graphene Dirac Cones

We investigate the infrared magneto-optical response of n-doped epitaxial graphene on 4H-SiC in ultrahigh magnetic fields up to 560~T, utilizing single-turn coil and electromagnetic flux compression techniques. The measured absorption spectra are anomalously broad, strongly deviating from conventional cyclotron resonance. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) reveals a distorted Dirac dispersion featuring a ``camel-back" structure with an energy gap of $E_g \sim 0.2$~eV. Using the band parameters extracted via a generalized bilayer graphene model, we construct a Landau level (LL) fan chart that dictates a critical level crossing between the $N=0^+$ and $N=0^-$ states near 160--200~T. At this threshold, the optical transition mechanism undergoes a dramatic shift from an electron-dominated collective mode to a cooperative electron-hole collective excitation. Furthermore, the extreme-field absorption spectra under thulium fiber laser excitation ($\hbarω_0 = 0.636$~eV)---culminating in a massive resonance near 400~T with a shoulder at 200~T---are excellently reproduced by a collective Alfvén wave model. This analysis also evidences a magnetic-field-induced enhancement of the sublattice potential asymmetry parameter (from 0.10~eV to 0.12~eV). This directly signifies that the macroscopic electron-hole band asymmetry is further amplified by the applied magnetic field. Ultimately, the field-induced energy inversion generates a strongly interacting, fully compensated electron-hole plasma. The resonant excitation of Alfvén waves in this regime demonstrates that a pristine tabletop analog to the relativistic electron-positron plasmas found in astrophysical extremes can be elegantly realized within a 2D graphene system.

Structured-light-mediated hybrid entanglement between photon polarization and electronic orbital angular momentum

We propose a minimal quantum-optical scheme for generating hybrid entanglement between photon polarization and electronic orbital angular momentum in a semiconductor quantum disk. A spin--orbit structured two-photon state excites two channels in the same disk: a radiatively recombining zero-orbital-angular-momentum channel and a finite-orbital-angular-momentum channel that stores the electronic orbital qubit. An effective coherent mapping prepares a selected two-excitation state, followed by emission of a photon whose polarization is entangled with the residual electronic orbital state. A master-equation analysis shows that the heralded state conditioned on single-photon occupation of the selected output mode approaches the target entangled state in the ideal coherent limit. We also discuss orbital relaxation and perturbative validity conditions for branch-dependent Coulomb shifts, orbital-angular-momentum mixing, and finite-orbital-angular-momentum radiative leakage. This proof-of-principle effective model suggests a route toward structured-light-mediated photon--electron hybrid entanglement in semiconductor nanostructures.

Photometry and Polarimetry of 2010 XC$_{15}$: Observational Confirmation of E-type Near-Earth Asteroid Pair

Asteroid systems such as binaries and pairs are indicative of physical properties and dynamical histories of the Small Solar System Bodies. Although numerous observational and theoretical studies have been carried out, the formation mechanism of asteroid pairs is still unclear, especially for near-Earth asteroid (NEA) pairs. We conducted a series of optical photometric and polarimetric observations of a small NEA 2010 XC$_{15}$ in 2022 December to investigate its surface properties. The rotation period of 2010 XC$_{15}$ is possibly a few to several dozen hours and color indices of 2010 XC$_{15}$ are derived as $g-r=0.435\pm0.008$, $r-i=0.158\pm0.017$, and $r-z=0.186\pm0.009$ in the Pan-STARRS system. The linear polarization degrees of 2010 XC$_{15}$ are a few percent at the phase angle range of 58$^{\circ}$ to 114$^{\circ}$. We found that 2010 XC$_{15}$ is a rare E-type NEA on the basis of its photometric and polarimetric properties. Taking the similarity of not only physical properties but also dynamical integrals and the rarity of E-type NEAs into account, we suppose that 2010 XC$_{15}$ and 1998 WT$_{24}$ are of common origin (i.e., asteroid pair). These two NEAs are the sixth NEA pair and first E-type NEA pair ever confirmed, possibly formed by rotational fission. We conjecture that the parent body of 2010 XC$_{15}$ and 1998 WT$_{24}$ was transported from the main-belt through the $ν_6$ resonance or Hungaria region.

Deep RL with Hierarchical Action Exploration for Dialogue Generation

Traditionally, approximate dynamic programming is employed in dialogue generation with greedy policy improvement through action sampling, as the natural language action space is vast. However, this practice is inefficient for reinforcement learning (RL) due to the sparsity of eligible responses with high action values, which leads to weak improvement sustained by random sampling. This paper presents theoretical analysis and experiments that reveal the performance of the dialogue policy is positively correlated with the sampling size. To overcome this limitation, we introduce a novel dual-granularity Q-function that explores the most promising response category to intervene in the sampling process. Our approach extracts actions based on a grained hierarchy, thereby achieving the optimum with fewer policy iterations. Additionally, we use offline RL and learn from multiple reward functions designed to capture emotional nuances in human interactions. Empirical studies demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms baselines across automatic metrics and human evaluations. Further testing reveals that our algorithm exhibits both explainability and controllability and generates responses with higher expected rewards.

A Personalized Dialogue Generator with Implicit User Persona Detection

Current works in the generation of personalized dialogue primarily contribute to the agent presenting a consistent personality and driving a more informative response. However, we found that the generated responses from most previous models tend to be self-centered, with little care for the user in the dialogue. Moreover, we consider that human-like conversation is essentially built based on inferring information about the persona of the other party. Motivated by this, we propose a novel personalized dialogue generator by detecting an implicit user persona. Because it is hard to collect a large number of detailed personas for each user, we attempted to model the user's potential persona and its representation from dialogue history, with no external knowledge. The perception and fader variables were conceived using conditional variational inference. The two latent variables simulate the process of people being aware of each other's persona and producing a corresponding expression in conversation. Finally, posterior-discriminated regularization was presented to enhance the training procedure. Empirical studies demonstrate that, compared to state-of-the-art methods, our approach is more concerned with the user's persona and achieves a considerable boost across the evaluations.

Exciton-phonon Bound Complex in Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes Revealed by High-field Magneto-optical Spectroscopy

High-field magneto-optical spectroscopy was conducted on highly-selected chiral (6,5) specific single-walled carbon nanotubes. Spectra of phonon sidebands in both 1st and 2nd sub-bands were observed to be unchanged by the application of an external magnetic field up to 52 T. Our analyses led to the conclusion that both phonon sidebands in respective sub-band originate from the dark K-momentum singlet (D-K-S) excitons. Moreover, while the relative ordering between the bandedge bright exciton and its zero-momentum anti-bonding counterpart was found to be opposite for the 1st and 2nd sub-bands, the relative ordering between the D-K-S exciton and the band-edge bright exciton was clarified to be the same for both sub-bands. Energy of these D-K-S excitons was estimated to be ~ 21.5 and ~ 37.3 meV above the band-edge bright exciton for the 1st and 2nd sub-bands, respectively.

Survey of Exciton-Phonon Sidebands by Magneto-optical Spectroscopy Using Highly Purified (6,5) Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes

We report the first high-field magneto-optical study on the exciton-phonon sideband of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) consisting only of (6,5) species. Both energy and intensity of the observed phonon sideband were found to be independent of the external magnetic field. Comparing with theoretical calculations, we confirmed that these sidebands originate from the optically forbidden K-momentum singlet excitons. Energy of these K-momentum dark excitons was extracted to be ~ 21.5 meV above the bright zero-momentum singlet excitons, in close agreement with recent theoretical predictions and experimentally determined values.
