Bound on Peak-to-Average Power Ratio with Moment and Reduction Method

In this paper, we show bounds on Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and propose a method to reduce PAPR. These bounds are written in terms of moments of transmitted symbols. Further, we show some bounds in special cases and these special bounds include a practical case. From the practical bound, a method to reduce PAPR is derived. Our method is an extension of existing methods, a Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) technique and a Selective Mapping (SLM) technique. Finally, we numerically verify performance of our method and discuss some conditions for our method.

Optimal Sequence and Performance for Desired User in Asynchronous CDMA System

We consider asynchronous CDMA systems in no-fading environments with a particular focus on a certain user. This certain user is called a desired user in this paper. In such a situation, an optimal sequence, maximum Signal-to-Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) and the maximum capacity for a desired user are derived with other spreading sequences being given and fixed. In addition, the maximum SINR and the optimal sequence for a desired user are written in terms of the minimum eigenvalue and the corresponding eigenvector of a matrix, respectively. Since it is not straightforward to obtain an explicit form of the maximum SINR, we evaluate SINR and obtain the lower and upper bounds of the maximum SINR. From these bounds, the maximum SINR may get larger as the quantities written in terms of quadratic forms of other spreading sequences decrease. Further, we propose a method to obtain spreading sequences for all the users which achieve large SINRs. The performance of our proposed method is numerically verified.

Moment-Based Bound on Peak-to-Average Power Ratio and Reduction with Unitary Matrix

Reducing Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is a significant task in OFDM systems. To evaluate the efficiency of PAPR-reducing methods, the complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of PAPR is often used. In the situation where the central limit theorem can be applied, an approximate form of the CCDF has been obtained. On the other hand, in general situations, the bound of the CCDF has been obtained under some assumptions. In this paper, we derive the bound of the CCDF with no assumption about modulation schemes. Therefore, our bound can be applied with any codewords and that our bound is written with fourth moments of codewords. Further, we propose a method to reduce the bound with unitary matrices. With this method, it is shown that our bound is closely related to the CCDF of PAPR.

Weyl Spreading Sequence Optimizing CDMA

This paper shows an optimal spreading sequence in the Weyl sequence class, which is similar to the set of the Oppermann sequences for asynchronous CDMA systems. Sequences in Weyl sequence class have the desired property that the order of cross-correlation is low. Therefore, sequences in the Weyl sequence class are expected to minimize the inter-symbol interference. We evaluate the upper bound of cross-correlation and odd cross-correlation of spreading sequences in the Weyl sequence class and construct the optimization problem: minimize the upper bound of the absolute values of cross-correlation and odd cross-correlation. Since our optimization problem is convex, we can derive the optimal spreading sequences as the global solution of the problem. We show their signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) in a special case. From this result, we propose how the initial elements are assigned, that is, how spreading sequences are assigned to each users. In an asynchronous CDMA system, we also numerically compare our spreading sequences with other ones, the Gold codes, the Oppermann sequences, the optimal Chebyshev spreading sequences and the SP sequences in Bit Error Rate. Our spreading sequence, which yields the global solution, has the highest performance among the other spreading sequences tested.

Randomization Approaches for Reducing PAPR with Partial Transmit Sequences and Semidefinite Relaxation

To reduce peak-to-average power ratio, we propose a method to choose a suitable vector for a partial transmit sequence technique. With a conventional method for this technique, we have to choose a suitable vector from a large amount of candidates. By contrast, our method does not include such a selecting procedure, and consists of generating random vectors from the Gaussian distribution whose covariance matrix is a solution of a relaxed problem. The suitable vector is chosen from the random vectors. This yields lower peak-to-average power ratio, compared to a conventional method for the fixed number of random vectors.

Method to Design UF-OFDM Filter and its Analysis

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems have been widely used as a communication system. In OFDM systems, there are two main problems. One of them is that OFDM signals have high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR). The other problem is that OFDM signals have large side-lobes. In particular, to reduce side-lobes, Universal-Filtered OFDM (UF-OFDM) systems have been proposed. In this paper, we show criteria for designing filters for UF-OFDM systems and a method to obtain the filter as a solution of an optimization problem. Further, we evaluate PAPR with UF-OFDM systems. Our filters have smaller side-lobes and lower Bit Error Rate than the Dolph-Chebyshev filter. However, the PAPR for signals with our filters and the Dolph-Chebyshev filter are higher PAPR than those with conventional OFDM signals.

Non-Linear Programming: Maximize SNR for Designing Spreading Sequence - Part II: Conditions for Optimal Spreading Sequences

Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is an important index for wireless communications. In CDMA systems, spreading sequences are utilized. This series of papers show the method to derive spreading sequences as the solutions of non-linear programming: maximize SNR. In this paper, we derive the optimization problems with the expression SNR derived in Part I and the necessary conditions for the global solutions. We numerically solve the problems and evaluate the solutions with two factors, mean-square correlations and maximum mean-square correlations.

Non-Linear Programming: Maximize SNR for Designing Spreading Sequence - Part I: SNR versus Mean-Square Correlation

Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is an important index for wireless communications. In CDMA systems, spreading sequences are utilized. This series of papers show the method to derive spreading sequences as the solutions of the non-linear programming: maximize SNR. In this paper, we consider a frequency-selective wide-sense-stationary uncorrelated-scattering (WSSUS) channel and evaluate the worst case of SNR. Then, we derive the new expression of SNR whose main term consists of the periodic correlation terms and the aperiodic correlation terms. In general, there is a relation between SNR and mean-square correlations, which are indices for performance of spreading sequences. Then, we show the relation between our expression and them. With this expression, we can maximize SNR with the Lagrange multiplier method. In Part II, with this expression, we construct two types optimization problems and evaluate them.

Orthogonal Basis Spreading Sequence for Optimal CDMA

Recently, new spreading sequences have been proposed to increase the capacity of users. In particular, the Weyl spreading sequences have the larger capacity of users than the Gold codes. This paper shows that the Weyl spreading sequences appear in a bit recovering model and they are orthogonal basis vectors. This result shows the reason why they have the large capacity and that any spreading sequence is expressed as the sum of the Weyl spreading sequences.

Numerical Approach to Maximize SNR for CDMA Systems

Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is an important index for wireless communications. There are many methods for increasing SNR. In CDMA systems, spreading sequences are used. To increase SNR, we have to improve spreading sequences. In classical approaches, the expression of SNR is not differentiable in terms of the parameter of the spreading sequences even in no fading situations. Thus, we express it as the differentiable form and construct the non-linear programing for maximizing SNR. In particular, we solve the problem of maximizing SNR numerically by obtaining spreading sequences whose SNR is guaranteed to be high.

SNR Maximization as a Non-Linear Programming -Towards Optimal Spreading Sequence-

Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is an important index for wireless communications. There are many methods for increasing SNR. In CDMA systems, spreading sequences are used. We consider the frequency-selective wide-sense-stationary uncorrelated-scattering (WSSUS) channel and evaluate the worst case of SNR. We construct the non-linear programing for maximizing the lower bound of the average of SNR. This problem becomes the convex programming if we did not take into account the norm constraint. We derive necessary conditions for optimal spreading sequences for the problem.
