Magnetic Ordering in Blocking Layer and Highly Anisotropic Electronic Structure of High-Tc Iron-based Superconductor Sr2VFeAsO3: LDA+U Studies

We calculate electronic structures of a high-Tc iron-based superconductor Sr2VFeAsO3 by LDA+U method. We assume a checker-board antiferromagnetic order on blocking layers including vanadium and strong correlation in d-orbits of vanadium through the Hubbard U. While the standard LDA brings about metallic blocking layers and complicated Fermi surface as in the previous literatures, our calculation changes the blocking layer into insulating one and the Fermi surface becomes quite similar to those of other iron-based superconductors. Moreover, the appearance of the insulating blocking layers predicts high anisotropy on quasi-particle transports and new types of intrinsic Josephson effects.

First-Principles Study for the Anisotropy of Iron-based Superconductors toward Power and Device Applications

Performing the first-principles calculations, we investigate the anisotropy in the superconducting state of iron-based superconductors to gain an insight into their potential applications. The anisotropy ratio $γ_λ$ of the c-axis penetration depth to the ab-plane one is relatively small in BaFe2As2 and LiFeAs, i.e., $γ_λ\sim 3$, indicating that the transport applications are promising in these superconductors. On the other hand, in those having perovskite type blocking layers such as Sr2ScFePO3 we find a very large value, $γ_λ\sim 200$, comparable to that in strongly anisotropic high-Tc cuprate Bi2Sr2CaCu2O{8-δ}. Thus, the intrinsic Josephson junction stacks are expected to be formed along the c-axis, and novel Josephson effects due to the multi-gap nature are also suggested in these superconductors.

Strong-coupling limit in cold-molecule formation via photoassociation or Feshbach resonance through Nikitin exponential resonance crossing

The strong-coupling limit of molecule formation in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate via two-mode one-color photoassociation or sweep across a Feshbach resonance is examined using a basic nonlinear time-dependent two-state model. For the general class of term-crossing models with constant coupling, a common strategy for attacking the problem is developed based on the reduction of the initial system of semiclassical equations for atom-molecule amplitudes to a third order nonlinear differential equation for the molecular state probability. This equation provides deriving exact solution for a class of periodic level-crossing models. These models reveal much in common with the Rabi problem. Discussing the strong-coupling limit for the general case of variable detuning, the equation is further truncated to a limit first-order nonlinear equation. Using this equation, the strong nonlinearity regime for the first Nikitin exponential-crossing model is analyzed and accurate asymptotic expressions for the nonlinear transition probability to the molecular state are derived. It is shown that, because of a finite final detuning involved, this model displays essential deviations from the Landau-Zener behavior. In particular, it is shown that in the limit of strong coupling the final conversion probability tends to 1/6. Thus, in this case the strong interaction limit is not optimal for molecule formation. We have found that if optimal field intensity is applied the molecular probability is increased up to 1/4 (i.e., the half of the initial atomic population).

Effect of Fermi Surface Topology on Inter-Layer Magnetoresistance in Layered Multiband Systems: Application to LaFeAsO1-xFx

In layered single band systems, the interlayer conductivity depends on the orientation of the in-plane magnetic field and takes maximum values when the magnetic field is perpendicular to flat regions of the Fermi surface. Extending this known results to multi-band systems, we propose an experiment to extract information about their Fermi surface topology. We discuss application of the formula to a FeAs-based superconductor, LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$. We show that the magnetically ordered state in the parent compound is clearly distinguished from the paramagnetic state by the oscillation period in the interlayer conductivity. We demonstrate that evolution of the Fermi surface topology by changing the doping concentration is reflected to the interlayer conductivity oscillation patterns.

Nuclear magnetic relaxation and superfluid density in Fe-pnictide superconductors: An anisotropic \pm s-wave scenario

We discuss the nuclear magnetic relaxation rate and the superfluid density with the use of the effective five-band model by Kuroki et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, 087004 (2008)] in Fe-based superconductors. We show that a fully-gapped anisotropic \pm s-wave superconductivity consistently explains experimental observations. In our phenomenological model, the gaps are assumed to be anisotropic on the electron-like βFermi surfaces around the M point, where the maximum of the anisotropic gap is about four times larger than the minimum.

Inclusive electron spectrum in the region of pion production in electron-nucleus scattering and the effect of the quasi-elastic interaction

We have carried out a calculation of the inclusive electron scattering cross section off oxygen in the kinematical region corresponding to beam energies between 700 and 1200 MeV, where quasielastic scattering and single pion production are the dominant reaction mechanisms. The formalism developed and successfully applied to describe quasielastic scattering has been extended to include both delta production and non-resonant pion production. The results are in fairly good agreement with experimental data over the whole range of energy transfer, including the dip region between the quasielastic peak and the first resonance.

Source chaoticity in relativistic heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC

We investigate degree of coherence of pion sources produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions using multi-particle interferometry. In order to obtain ``true'' chaoticity, lambda^true from two-pion correlation functions measured in experiments, we make a correction for long-lived resonance decay contributions. Using this lambda^true and the weight factor which are obtained from parameter fitted to two- and three-pion correlation function, we calculate a chaotic fraction epsilon and the number of coherent sources alpha for different colliding energies. The result gives constraints on the source and shows an increase of the minimum number of alpha with multiplicity, although multiplicity independent chaoticity is not excluded.

Multiplicity Dependence of Partially Coherent Pion Production in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

We investigate two- and three-particle intensity correlation functions of pions in relativistic heavy ion collisions for different colliding energies. Based on three models of particle production, we analyze the degree to which the pion sources are chaotic in the SPS S+Pb, Pb+Pb and the RHIC Au+Au collisions. The ``chaoticity'', $λ$, of the two-particle correlation functions is corrected for long-lived resonance decays. The effect of the partial Coulomb correction is also examined. Although the partially coherent model gives a result which is consistent with that of STAR, the chaotic fraction does not exhibit clear multiplicity dependence if we take into account both the corrected chaoticity and the weight factor of the three-pion correlation function. The result of the partially-multicoherent model indicates an increasing number of coherent sources in higher multiplicity events.

Source Chaoticity from Two- and Three-Pion Correlations in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=130$ GeV?

We consistently analyze two-pion correlation functions and three-pion correlation functions of 130$A$ GeV Au+Au collisions measured at RHIC, applying three models of partially coherent pion sources. The effect of long-lived resonances on the chaoticity in the two-pion correlation function is estimated on the basis of a statistical model. We find that the chaoticity extracted from the three-pion correlation function is consistent with that extracted from the two-pion correlation function at vanishing relative momenta after the subtraction of the contribution of the long-lived resonance decays. All three models indicate that pions are emitted from the mixture of a chaotic source and coherent sources in the 130$A$ GeV Au+Au collisions.

Electron- and neutrino-nucleus scattering in the impulse approximation regime

A quantitative understanding of the weak nuclear response is a prerequisite for the analyses of neutrino experiments such as K2K and MiniBOONE, which measure energy and angle of the muons produced in neutrino-nucleus interactions in the energy range $0.5-3$ GeV and reconstruct the incident neutrino energy to determine neutrino oscillations. In this paper we discuss theoretical calculations of electron- and neutrino-nucleus scattering, carried out within the impulse approximation scheme using realistic nuclear spectral functions.Comparison between electron scattering data and the calculated inclusive cross section off oxygen, at beam energies ranging between 700 and 1200 MeV, show that the Fermi gas model, widely used in the analysis of neutrino oscillation experiments, fails to provide a satisfactory description of the measured cross sections, and inclusion of nuclear dynamics is needed.

A brief overview is presented of various issues involved in phenomenological and theoretical works on charge-current neutrino-nucleus reactions associated with the quasi-free Delta(1232) production. An assessment of the present status of the works is made with respect to the objective of this conference, Sub-Dominant Oscillation Effects in Atmospheric Neutrino Experiments.

Comparison of electron-nucleus quasi-elastic cross sections using spectral functions with (e,e') data from 0.5 GeV to 1.5 GeV and effects on neutrino quasi-elastic cross sections

We carry out a relativistic calculation of the cross sections of electron-16O and -12C quasi-elastic scattering and quasi-free Delta production and compare with the (e,e') data systematically in the wide energy range of 0.5 - 1.5 GeV. Using the same formalism, we examine the mu-neutrino quasi-elastic scattering from 16O. The model incorporating the nuclear correlation effects agrees better with the electron-nucleus scattering data than a uniform Fermi-Gas model. In the neutrino quasi-elastic scattering, the nuclear correlation has an appreciable effect on the cross section of high-energy scattered leptons, and it may have an important consequence in the neutrino oscillation measurements aiming at a few % precision.

Semiclassical approaches to controlling chemical reaction dynamics

We propose to use semiclassical methods to treat laser control problems of chemical reaction dynamics. Our basic strategy is as follows: Laser-driven chemical reactions are considered to consist of two processes. One is the wavepacket propagation on an adiabatic potential energy surface (PES), and the other is the electronic transition between PES's. Because the latter process is mathematically equivalent to nonadiabatic transitions between Floquet (dressed) states, we can control such a process using the semiclassical Zhu-Nakamura theory for nonadiabatic transitions. For the former process, we incorporate semiclassical propagation methods such as the Herman-Kluk propagator into optimization procedures like optimal control theory. We show some numerical examples for our strategies. We also develop a semiclassical direct algorithm to treat the adiabatic propagation and nonadiabatic transitions as a whole.

Control of photodissociation branching using the complete reflection phenomenon: Application to HI molecule

The laser control of photodissociation branching in a diatomic molecule is demonstrated to be effectively achieved with use of the complete reflection phenomenon. The phenomenon and the control condition can be nicely formulated by the semiclassical (Zhu-Nakamura) theory. The method is applied to the branching between I($^2 P_{3/2}$) (HI $\to$ H + I) and I$^*(^2 P_{1/2})$ (HI $\to$ H + I$^*$) formation, and nearly complete control is shown to be possible by appropriately choosing an initial vibrational state and laser frequency in spite of the fact that there are three electronically excited states involved. Numerical calculations of the corresponding wavepacket dynamics confirm the results.

Two-particle correlation from a relativistic fluid with a first order phase transition

We numerically calculate two-particle correlation functions of CERN-SPS 158 A GeV Pb+Pb central collisions based on a (3+1)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics with a first order phase transition. We analyze the pair momentum dependence of pion source sizes extracted from the Yano-Koonin-Podgoretski\uı (YKP) parametrization which is expected to give the source sizes directly. We find that, even in the case of the first order phase transition, the collective expansion and surface dominant freeze-out of the fluid naturally lead to the opaque source for which the interpretation of the temporal source parameter as the emission duration breaks down.

Intermittent, Domain-Structured Coherence in the Pion Interferometry of Relativistic Nuclear Collisions

We investigate a domain-structured source in the pion interferometry of relativistic nuclear collisions. The source emits coherent pions intermittently with the background of chaotic pions. The coherent pions examined are either of a general nature or of disoriented chiral condensate. Two- and three-pion correlations for the source are shown to agree well with the recent NA44 experimental data.

Three-Pion Interferometry of Relativistic Nuclear Collisions

Three-pion interferometry is investigated for new information on the space-time structure of the pion source created in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The two- and three-pion correlations are numerically computed for incoherent source functions based on the Bjorken hydrodynamical model, over a wide range of the kinematic variables. New information provided by three-pion interferometry, different from that provided by two-pion interferometry, should appear in the phases of the Fourier transform of the source function. Variables are identified that would be sensitive to the phases and suitable for observation. For a positive, chaotic source function, however, a variation of the three-pion phase is found to be difficult to extract from experiments. Effects of asymmetry of the source function are also examined.
