Ground state with nonzero spontaneous magnetization of the two-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet with frustration

The S = 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the two-dimensional pyramid lattice is studied by the numerical-diagonalization method. This lattice is obtained by the combination of the Lieb lattice and the square lattice. It is known that when interaction on the square lattice is increased from the ferrimagnetic limit of strong interaction on the Lieb lattice, this system shows gradual decrease and disappearance of spontaneous magnetization in the ground state. The present study treats the region near the case of the square-lattice antiferromagnet accompanied by isolated spins by numerical-diagonalization calculations of finite-size clusters with the maximum size of 39 sites. Our numerical results suggest the existence of a new phase with small but nonzero spontaneous magnetization between two zero-spontaneous-magnetization phases.

Metamagnetic jump in the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the square-kagome lattice

The magnetization process of the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on two-dimensional square-kagome lattice is studied theoretically. The metamagnetic jumps exist in the magnetization process at the higher edge of the 1/3 and 2/3 plateaus. The parameter-dependencies of the critical field and the magnitude of the magnetization jump at the higher edge of the 1/3 plateau are obtained by using the approximated state in the unit cell and compared with the nu- merical results of the exact diagonalization of 42 sites.

Impact of Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya Interactions and Tilts of the g Tensors on the Magnetization Process of a Spherical Kagome Cluster in {W72V30}

In order to clarify why the experimental magnetization curve of the spherical kagome cluster in {W72V30} at 0.5 K shows no sign of staircase behavior up to 50 T, we study the effects of Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interactions and tilts of the g tensors, both of which lead to the breaking of the total-S z conservation, by using the exact diagonalization method. It is found that the D vector component parallel to the radiation direction of the polyhedron cancels out the staircase in a low magnetic field region efficiently. The tilts of the g tensors are inherent to systems defined on the poly- hedrons and lead to induced magnetic fields varying site by site. This induced magnetic field affects the magnetization only at high magnetic fields. We also discuss two existing experimental results on the basis of our calculated results.

Lung Nodule Classification by the Combination of Fusion Classifier and Cascaded Convolutional Neural Networks

Lung nodule classification is a class imbalanced problem, as nodules are found with much lower frequency than non-nodules. In the class imbalanced problem, conventional classifiers tend to be overwhelmed by the majority class and ignore the minority class. We showed that cascaded convolutional neural networks can classify the nodule candidates precisely for a class imbalanced nodule candidate data set in our previous study. In this paper, we propose Fusion classifier in conjunction with the cascaded convolutional neural network models. To fuse the models, nodule probabilities are calculated by using the convolutional neural network models at first. Then, Fusion classifier is trained and tested by the nodule probabilities. The proposed method achieved the sensitivity of 94.4% and 95.9% at 4 and 8 false positives per scan in Free Receiver Operating Characteristics (FROC) curve analysis, respectively.

Magnetization Process of the Spin-1/2 Triangular-Lattice Heisenberg Antiferromagnet with Next-Nearest-Neighbor Interactions -- Plateau or Nonplateau

An $S=1/2$ triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet with next-nearest-neighbor interactions is investigated under a magnetic field by the numerical-diagonalization method. It is known that, in both cases of weak and strong next-nearest-neighbor interactions, this system reveals a magnetization plateau at one-third of the saturated magnetization. We examine the stability of this magnetization plateau when the amplitude of next-nearest-neighbor interactions is varied. We find that a nonplateau region appears between the plateau phases in the cases of weak and strong next-nearest-neighbor interactions.

Ferrimagnetism in the Spin-1/2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on a Distorted Triangular Lattice

The ground state of the spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a distorted triangular lattice is studied using a numerical-diagonalization method. The network of interactions is the $\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3}$ type; the interactions are continuously controlled between the undistorted triangular lattice and the dice lattice. We find new states between the nonmagnetic 120-degree-structured state of the undistorted triangular case and the up-up-down state of the dice case. The intermediate states show spontaneous magnetizations that are smaller than one third of the saturated magntization corresponding to the up-up-down state.

Multi-stage Neural Networks with Single-sided Classifiers for False Positive Reduction and its Evaluation using Lung X-ray CT Images

Lung nodule classification is a class imbalanced problem because nodules are found with much lower frequency than non-nodules. In the class imbalanced problem, conventional classifiers tend to be overwhelmed by the majority class and ignore the minority class. We therefore propose cascaded convolutional neural networks to cope with the class imbalanced problem. In the proposed approach, multi-stage convolutional neural networks that perform as single-sided classifiers filter out obvious non-nodules. Successively, a convolutional neural network trained with a balanced data set calculates nodule probabilities. The proposed method achieved the sensitivity of 92.4\% and 94.5% at 4 and 8 false positives per scan in Free Receiver Operating Characteristics (FROC) curve analysis, respectively.

Magnetization Jump in the Magnetization Process of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on a Distorted Square-Kagome Lattice

We study the magnetization process of the spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a distorted square-kagome lattice by the numerical-diagonalization method. The magnetization jump at one-third of the height of the saturation is examined in detail; we find that the jump becomes larger when a small distortion is switched on and that it is accompanied by an abrupt change in lines along microscopic spin directions. Our finite-size results successfully confirm that the magnetization jump in a spin-isotropic system is a macroscopic jump that survives in the thermodynamic limit and that the changes in spin directions are common to a spin-flop phenomenon observed in spin-anisotropic systems.

Magnetization Process of the Spin-S Kagome-Lattice Heisenberg Antiferromagnet

The magnetization process of the spin-S Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagome lattice is studied by the numerical-diagonalization method. Our numerical-diagonalization data for small finite-size clusters with S=1, 3/2, 2, and 5/2 suggest that a magnetization plateau appears at one-third of the height of the saturation in the magnetization process irrespective of S. We discuss the S dependences of the edge fields and the width of the plateau in comparison with recent results obtained by real-space perturbation theory.

Instability of a ferrimagnetic state of a frustrated S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet in two dimensions

To clarify the instability of the ferrimagnetism which is the fundamental magnetism of ferrite, numerical-diagonalization study is carried out for the two-dimensional S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet with frustration. We find that the ferrimagnetic ground state has the spontaneous magnetization in small frustration; due to a frustrating interaction above a specific strength, the spontaneous magnetization discontinuously vanishes so that the ferrimagnetic state appears only under some magnetic fields. We also find that, when the interaction is increased further, the ferrimagnetism disappears even under magnetic field.

Anomalous Behavior of the Magnetization Process of the S = 1/2 Kagome-Lattice Heisenberg Antiferromagnet at One-Third Height of the Saturation

The magnetization process of the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagome lattice is studied by the numerical-diagonalization method. We successfully obtain a new result of the magnetization process of a 42-site cluster in the entire range. Our analysis clarifies that the critical behavior around one-third of the height of the saturation is different from the typical behavior of the well-known magnetization plateau in two-dimensional systems. We also examine the effect of the $\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3}$-type distortion added to the kagome lattice. We find at one-third of the height of the saturation in the magnetization process that the undistorted kagome point is just the boundary between two phases that show their own properties that are different from each other. Our results suggest a relationship between the anomalous critical behavior at the undistorted point and the fact that the undistorted point is the boundary.

Spin-Flop Phenomenon of Two-Dimensional Frustrated Antiferromagnets without Anisotropy in Spin Space

Motivated by a recent finding of a spin-flop phenomenon in a system without anisotropy in spin space reported in the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the square-kagome lattice, we study the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets on two other lattices composed of vertex-sharing triangles by the numerical diagonalization method. One is a novel lattice including a shuriken shape with four teeth; the other is the kagome lattice with $\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3}$-structure distortion, which includes a shuriken shape with six teeth. We find in the magnetization processes of these systems that a magnetization jump accompanied by a spin-flop phenomenon occurs at the higher-field-side edge of the magnetization plateau at one-third the height of saturation. This finding indicates that the spin-flop phenomenon found in the isotropic system on the square-kagome lattice is not an exceptional case.

Magnetization Process of the S=1/2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on the Cairo Pentagon Lattice

We study the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the Cairo pentagon lattice by the numerical-diagonalization method. We tune the ratio of two antiferromagnetic interactions coming from two kinds of inequivalent sites in this lattice, examining the magnetization process of the antiferromagnet; particular attention is given to one-third of the height of the saturation. We find that quantum phase transition occurs at a specific ratio and that a magnetization plateau appears in the vicinity of the transition. The plateau is accompanied by a magnetization jump on one side among the edges due to the spin-flop phenomenon. Which side the jump appears depends on the ratio.

Quantum spin-liquid behavior in the spin-1/2 random Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the triangular lattice

Experimental quest for the hypothetical "quantum spin liquid" state has recently met a few promising candidate materials including organic salts κ-(ET)2Cu2(CN)3 and EtMe3Sb[Pd(dmit)2]2, S=1/2 triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnets consisting of molecular dimers. These compounds exhibit no magnetic ordering nor the spin freezing down to very low temperature, while various physical quantities exhibit gapless behaviors. Recent dielectric measurements revealed the glassy dielectric response suggesting the random freezing of the electric polarization degrees of freedom. Inspired by this observation, we propose as a minimal model of the observed quantum spin-liquid behavior the S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg on the triangular lattice with a quenched randomness in the exchange interaction. We study both zero- and finite-temperature properties of the model by an exact diagonalization method, to find that when the randomness exceeds a critical value the model exhibits a quantum spin-liquid ground state. This randomness-induced quantum spin-liquid state exhibits gapless behaviors including the temperature-linear specific heat. The results provide a consistent explanation of the recent experimental observations on organic salts.

Long-Range Order of the Three-Sublattice Structure in the S = 1 Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on a Spatially Anisotropic Triangular Lattice

We study the S=1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a spatially anisotropic triangular lattice by the numerical diagonalization method. We examine the stability of the long-range order of a three-sublattice structure observed in the isotropic system between the isotropic case and the case of isolated one-dimensional chains. It is found that the long-range-ordered ground state with this structure exists in the range of 0.7 \simle J_2/J_1 \le 1, where J_1 is the interaction amplitude along the chains and J_2 is the amplitude of other interactions.

Nontrivial ferrimagnetism of the Heisenberg model on the Union Jack strip lattice

We study the ground-state properties of the S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the Union Jack strip lattice by using the exact-diagonalization and density matrix renormalization group methods. We confirm a region of the intermediate-magnetization state between the Neel-like spin liquid state and the conventional ferrimagnetic state of Lieb-Mattis type. In the intermediate-state, we find that the spontaneous magnetization changes gradually with respect to the strength of the inner interaction. In addition, the local magnetization clearly shows an incommensurate modulation with long-distance periodicity in the intermediate-magnetization state. These characteristic behaviors lead to the conclusion that the intermediate-magnetization state is the non-Lieb-Mattis ferrimagnetic one. We also discuss the relationship between the ground-state properties of the S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the original Union Jack lattice and those on our strip lattice.
