Photon pair production in gluon fusion: Top quark effects at NLO with threshold matching

We present a calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the loop-induced production of a photon pair through gluon fusion, including massive top quarks at two loops, where the two-loop integrals are calculated numerically. Matching the fixed-order NLO results to a threshold expansion, we obtain accurate results around the top quark pair production threshold. We analyse how the top quark threshold corrections affect distributions of the photon pair invariant mass and comment on the possibility of determining the top quark mass from precision measurements of the diphoton invariant mass spectrum.

Study of the $hγZ$ coupling at the ILC

We study the $h γZ$ coupling, which is a loop induced coupling in the Standard Model (SM), to probe new physics. In a global fit based on the SM Effective Field Theory, measurement of the SM $h γZ$ coupling can provide a very useful constraint, in particular for the precise determination of $hZZ$ and $hWW$ couplings. At the International Linear Collider (ILC), there are two direct ways to study the $h γZ$ coupling: one is to measure the branching ratio of the $h \to γZ$ decay and the other to measure the cross section for the $e^+e^- \to h γ$ process. We have performed a full simulation study of the $e^+e^- \to h γ$ process at the 250 GeV ILC, assuming 2 ab$^{-1}$ data collected by the International Large Detector (ILD). The expected 1$σ$ bound on the effective $hγZ$ coupling ($ζ_{AZ}$) combining measurements of the cross section for $e^+e^- \to h γ$ followed by $h \to b \bar{b}$ and the $h \to γZ$ branching ratio is $-0.0015<ζ_{AZ}<0.0015$. The expected significance for the signal cross section in the fully hadronic $h \to WW^*$ channel is 0.09 $σ$ for beam polarizations of $P(e^-,e^+)=(-80\%,+30\%)$.

Photon pair production in gluon fusion: Top quark effects around threshold

We present a calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the loop-induced production of a photon pair through gluon fusion, including massive top quarks at two loops. The two-loop virtual amplitudes are computed via projecting onto a set of Lorentz structures related to linear polarisation states of external gauge bosons. All two-loop master integrals dependent on the top quark mass are evaluated numerically. Matching the fixed order NLO result to a calculation with threshold resummation, we obtain an accurate description of the diphoton invariant mass spectrum around the threshold of top quark pair production. We analyse how the distribution of the diphoton invariant mass is affected by the top quark loop-induced corrections, especially around the top quark pair production threshold.

Study of the $hγZ$ coupling using $e^+e^-\xrightarrow{}h γ$ at the ILC

We study the $e^+e^-\to h γ$ process at the International Linear Collider (ILC) to probe new physics in the $hγZ$ coupling. The study is performed at a center of mass energy of 250 GeV and is based on the full simulation of the International Large Detector (ILD). The expected signal significance is found to be 0.53 $σ$ for an integrated luminosity of 2000 fb$^{-1}$ in the case of the standard model. The corresponding 95 $\%$ confidence level upper limit for the signal cross section is 1.08 fb for left-handed beam polarization.

Light Dark Matter Showering under Broken Dark $U(1)$ -- Revisited

It was proposed recently that different chiralities of the dark matter (DM) fermion under a broken dark U(1) gauge group can lead to distinguishable signatures at the LHC through shower patterns, which may reveal the mass origin of the dark sector. We study this subject further by examining the dark shower of two simplified models, the dubbed Chiral Model and the Vector Model. We derive a more complete set of collinear splitting functions with power corrections, specifying the helicities of the initial DM fermion and including the contribution from an extra degree of freedom, the dark Higgs boson. The dark shower is then implemented with these splitting functions, and the new features resulting from its correct modelling are emphasized. It is shown that the DM fermion chirality can be differentiated by measuring dark shower patterns, especially the DM jet energy profile, which is almost independent of the DM energy.

Probing the CP properties of top Yukawa coupling at an $e^+e^-$ collider

We study consequences of CP violation in the $ht\bar{t}$ Yukawa coupling through the process $e^+e^- \to$ $h(125)t\bar{t}$. The helicity amplitudes are calculated in the $t\bar{t}$ rest frame, where the initial $e^+e^-$ current and the final Higgs boson have the same three-momentum. CP-violating asymmetries appear not only in the azimuthal angle between the $e^+e^-$ plane and the $t\bar{t}$ plane about the Higgs momentum direction, but also in the correlated decay angular distributions of $t$ and $\bar{t}$. Complete description of the production and decay angular distributions are obtained analytically, including both leptonic and hadronic decays of $t$ and $\bar{t}$. We study the ultimate sensitivity to the CP-violating $ht\bar{t}$ coupling at a few center-of-mass energies. Our analysis shows that the possibility of discovering CP violating $ht\bar{t}$ coupling improves significantly by studying $t\bar{t}$ decay angular correlations, and more importantly, by increasing its energy upgrade target from $\sqrt{s} = 500$ GeV to 550 GeV.

Discriminating leptonic Yukawa interactions with doubly charged scalar at the ILC

We explore discrimination of two types of leptonic Yukawa interactions associated with Higgs triplet, $\bar L^c_L ΔL_L$, and with $SU(2)$ singlet doubly charged scalar, $\bar e_R^c k^{++} e_R$. These interactions can be distinguished by measuring the effects of doubly charged scalar boson exchange in the $e^+ e^- \to \ell^+ ell^-$ processes at polarized electron-positron colliders. We study a forward-backward asymmetry of scattering angular distribution to estimate the sensitivity for these effects at the ILC. In addition, we investigate prospects of upper bounds on the Yukawa couplings by combining the constraints of lepton flavor violation processes and the $e^+ e^- \to \ell^+ \ell^-$ processes at the LEP and the ILC.

Light flavon signals at electron - photon colliders

Flavor symmetries are useful to realize fermion flavor structures in the standard model. In particular, discrete $A_4$ symmetry is used to realize lepton flavor structures, and some scalars which are called flavon are introduced to break this symmetry. In many models, flavons are assumed to be much heavier than the electroweak scale. However, our previous work showed that flavon mass around 100 GeV is allowed by experimental constraints in the $A_4$ symmetric model with residual $Z_3$ symmetry. In this paper, we discuss collider search of such a light flavon $φ_T$. We find that an electron - photon collision, as a considerable option at the international linear collider, has advantages to search for the signals. At the electron - photon collider flavons are produced as $e^-γ\to l^- φ_T$ and decay into two charged leptons. Then we analyze signals of flavor-conserving final-state $τ^+ τ^- e^-$, and flavor-violating final-states $τ^+ μ^- μ^-$ and $μ^+ τ^- τ^-$ by carrying out numerical simulation. For the former final-state, SM background can be strongly suppressed by imposing cuts on the invariant masses of final-state leptons. For the later final-states, SM background is extremely small, because in the SM there are no such flavor-violating final-states. We then find that sufficient discovery significance can be obtained, even if flavons are heavier than the lower limits from flavor physics.

Precise top-quark mass from the diphoton mass spectrum

We calculate the $gg\toγγ$ amplitude by including the $t\bar t$ bound-state effects near their mass threshold. In terms of the non-relativistic expansion of the amplitude, the LO contribution is an energy-independent term in the one-loop amplitude. We include the NLO contribution described by the non-relativistic Green function and part of the NNLO contribution. Despite a missing NLO piece which can be accomplished with the two-loop-level amplitude via massive quarks, the shape of the diphoton mass spectrum is predicted with a good accuracy. Thanks to the simple and clean nature of the observable, its experimental measurement can be a direct method to determine the short-distance mass of the top quark at hadron colliders.

Diphoton resonance at the ILC

In this paper we study the direct production of the diphoton resonance $X$ which has been suggested by 2015 data at the LHC, in $e^+e^-\to Xγ/XZ$ processes at the ILC. We derive an analytic expression for the scattering amplitudes of these processes, and present a comprehensive analysis for determining the properties of $X$ at the ILC. A realistic simulation study for $e^+e^-\to Xγ$ is performed based on the full detector simulation to demonstrate the capabilities of the ILC experiment. Complementary to the searches at the LHC, prospects of the measurement of the absolute values of production cross-section are obtained for the ILC using recoil technique without assuming decay modes of $X$. In addition, we have studied the searches for $X\to\rm{invisible}$ and $X\to b\bar{b}$ modes, which are challenging at the LHC, and found that these decay modes can be discovered with high significance if their branching ratios are large enough.

Implications of the 750 GeV gamma-gamma Resonance as a Case Study for the International Linear Collider

If the gamma-gamma resonance at 750 GeV suggested by 2015 LHC data turns out to be a real effect, what are the implications for the physics case and upgrade path of the International Linear Collider? Whether or not the resonance is confirmed, this question provides an interesting case study testing the robustness of the ILC physics case. In this note, we address this question with two points: (1) Almost all models proposed for the new 750 GeV particle require additional new particles with electroweak couplings. The key elements of the 500 GeV ILC physics program---precision measurements of the Higgs boson, the top quark, and 4-fermion interactions---will powerfully discriminate among these models. This information will be important in conjunction with new LHC data, or alone, if the new particles accompanying the 750 GeV resonance are beyond the mass reach of the LHC. (2) Over a longer term, the energy upgrade of the ILC to 1 TeV already discussed in the ILC TDR will enable experiments in gamma-gamma and e+e- collisions to directly produce and study the 750 GeV particle from these unique initial states.

Search for Higgs portal DM at the ILC

Higgs portal dark matter (DM) models are simple interesting and viable DM models. There are three types of the models depending on the DM spin: scalar, fermion and vector DM models. In this paper, we consider renormalizable, unitary and gauge invariant Higgs portal DM models, and study how large parameter regions can be surveyed at the International Linear Collider (ILC) experiment at $\sqrt{s}=500$ GeV. For the Higgs portal singlet fermion and vector DM cases, the force mediator involves two scalar propagators, the SM-like Higgs boson and the dark Higgs boson. We show that their interference generates interesting and important patterns in the mono-$Z$ plus missing $E_T$ signatures at the ILC, and the results are completely different from those obtained from the Higgs portal DM models within the effective field theories. In addition, we show that it would be possible to distinguish the spin of DM in the Higgs portal scenarios, if the shape of the recoil-mass distribution is observed. We emphasize that the interplay between these collider observations and those in the direct detection experiments has to be performed in the model with renomalizability and unitarity to combine the model analyses in different scales.

Bound-state effects on kinematical distributions of top quarks at hadron colliders

First we present a theoretical framework to compute the fully differential cross sections for the top-quark productions and their subsequent decays at hadron colliders, incorporating the bound-state effects which are important in the t\bar{t} threshold region. We include the bound-state effects such that the cross sections are correct in the LO approximation both in the threshold and high-energy regions. Then, based on this framework we compute various kinematical distributions of top quarks as well as of their decay products at the LHC, by means of Monte-Carlo event-generation. These are compared with the corresponding predictions based on conventional perturbative QCD. In particular, we find a characteristic bound-state effect on the (bW^+)-(\bar{b}W^-) double-invariant-mass distribution, which is deformed to the lower invariant-mass side in a correlated manner.

Simplified DM models with the full SM gauge symmetry : the case of $t$-channel colored scalar mediators

The general strategy for dark matter (DM) searches at colliders currently relies on simplified models. In this paper, we propose a new $t$-channel UV-complete simplified model that improves the existing simplified DM models in two important respects: (i) we impose the full SM gauge symmetry including the fact that the left-handed and the right-handed fermions have two independent mediators with two independent couplings, and (ii) we include the renormalization group evolution when we derive the effective Lagrangian for DM-nucleon scattering from the underlying UV complete models by integrating out the $t$-channel mediators. The first improvement will introduce a few more new parameters compared with the existing simplified DM models. In this study we look at the effect this broader set of free parameters has on direct detection and the mono-$X$ + MET ($X$=jet,$W,Z$) signatures at 13 TeV LHC while maintaining gauge invariance of the simplified model under the full SM gauge group. We find that the direct detection constraints require DM masses less than 10 GeV in order to produce phenomenologically interesting collider signatures. Additionally, for a fixed mono-W cross section it is possible to see very large differences in the mono-jet cross section when the usual simplified model assumptions are loosened and isospin violation between RH and LH DM-SM quark couplings are allowed.

Probing CP violation in $e^{+}e^{-}$ production of the Higgs boson and toponia

We study the CP violation in the Higgs boson and toponia production process at the ILC where the toponia are produced near the threshold. With the approximation that the production vertex of the Higgs boson and toponia is contact, and neglecting the P-wave toponia, we analytically calculated the density matrix for the production and decay of the toponia. Under these assumptions, the production spectrum of the toponia is solely determined by the spin quantum number, therefore the toponia can be either singlet or triplet. We find that the production rate of the singlet toponium is highly suppressed, and behaves just like the production of a P-wave toponia. In the case of the triplet toponium, three completely independent CP observables, namely azimuthal angles of lepton and anti-lepton in the toponium rest-frame as well as their sum, are predicted based on our analytical results, and checked by using the tree-level event generator. The non-trivial correlations come from the longitudinal-transverse interferences for the azimuthal angles of leptons, and the transverse-transverse interference for their sum. These three observables are well defined at the ILC, where the rest frame of the toponium can be reconstructed directly. Furthermore, the QCD-strong corrections, which are important near the threshold region, are also studied with the approximation of spin-independent QCD-Coulomb potential. While the total cross section is enhanced, the spin correlations predicted in this paper are not affected.

Indirect reach of heavy MSSM Higgs bosons by precision measurements at future lepton colliders

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the bottom Yukawa coupling of the Higgs boson can considerably deviate from its Standard Model prediction due to non-decoupling effects. We point out that the ratio of the Higgs boson decay branching fraction to a bottom quark pair and that to a $W$-boson pair from the same production channel is particularly sensitive to large additional MSSM Higgs boson mass regions at future electron-positron colliders. Based on this precision measurement, we explicitly show the indirect discovery reach of the additional Higgs bosons according to planned programs of the International Linear Collider.

Family Gauge Boson Production at the LHC

Family gauge boson production at the LHC is investigated according to a $U(3)$ family gauge model with twisted family number assignment. In the model we study, a family gauge boson with the lowest mass, $A_1^{\ 1}$, interacts only with the first generation leptons and the third generation quarks. (The family numbers are assigned, for example, as $(e_1, e_2, e_3)= (e^-, μ^-, τ^-)$ and $(d_1, d_2, d_3)=(b, d, s) $[or $(d_1, d_2, d_3)=(b, s, d)$]). In the model, the family gauge coupling constant is fixed by relating to the electroweak gauge coupling constant. Thus measurements of production cross sections and branching ratios of $A_1^{\ 1}$ clearly confirm or rule out the model. We calculate the cross sections of inclusive $A_1^{\ 1}$ production and $b \bar{b} \, (t \bar{t})$ associated $A_1^{\ 1}$ production at $\sqrt{s} = 14~\text{TeV}$ and $100~\text{TeV}$. With the dielectron production cross section, we discuss the determination of diagonalizing matrix of quark mass matrix, $U_{u}$ and $U_{d}$, respectively.

Direct searches of extra Higgs boson at future colliders

We study direct searches of additional Higgs bosons in multi-top-quarks events at the LHC with the collision energy of 14 TeV as well as the International Linear Collider (ILC) with the collision energy of 1 TeV. As a benchmark model, we consider two Higgs doublet models with a softly-broken discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, where the $t\bar t$ decay mode of additional neutral Higgs bosons can be dominant if their masses are heavy enough. Thus, the multi-top-quarks events become an important probe of the extended Higgs sector at future colliders. We estimate the discovery reach at the LHC and the ILC, and find that the search at the ILC can survey the parameter regions where the LHC cannot cover.
