On invariant solutions of linear time-fractional diffusion-wave equations with variable coefficients

We study invariant solutions of a certain class of time-fractional diffusion-wave equations with variable coefficients via Lie symmetry analysis. In physics, the fractional diffusion equation describes transport dynamics that are governed by anomalous diffusion while the fractional wave equation describes oscillations and wave propagation in various physical systems. In order to obtain exact invariant solutions of these equations, we firstly determine infinitesimal symmetries with respect to the variable coefficients of the equations. With the help of these symmetries, we then find solutions in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions, generalized Wright functions and Fox H-functions.

A Green's Function-Based Enclosure Framework for Poisson's Equation and Generalized Sub- and Super-Solutions

This paper presents a novel framework for enclosing solutions of Poisson's equation based on generalized sub- and super-solutions constructed using fundamental solutions. The conventional definition of sub- and super-solutions based on variational inequalities often fails for natural function classes such as piecewise linear functions and encounters theoretical difficulties in non-convex polygonal domains, where H^2 regularity is lost because of corner singularities. To overcome these limitations, we introduce the concept of ``Green-representable solutions'' utilizing test functions constructed from fundamental solutions. This framework enables a new formulation of sub- and super-solutions that permits rigorous pointwise evaluation. For one-dimensional problems, we derive explicit constructions of the test functions. For two-dimensional polygonal domains, we employ the Method of Fundamental Solutions to generate test functions. The approach is validated through numerical experiments in both settings, including non-convex polygons. The results demonstrate that the proposed method yields strict and accurate pointwise enclosures of the true solution, even for problems with discontinuous source terms or geometric singularities.

Shift operators of the Dotsenko-Fateev equation and its higher order versions

We find shift operators for the Dotsenko-Fateev equation, which is a differential equation of order 3, and for the three Fuchsian differential equations of order 4, 5 and 6, respectively, which are connected with the Dotsenko-Fateev equation via addition and middle convolution. These shift operators are used to study reducible cases.

Expansions of the Characteristic Polynomial of a Perturbed Positive Semidefinite Matrix and Convergence Analysis of Alternating Projections

We observe that the characteristic polynomial of a linearly perturbed semidefinite matrix can be used to give the convergence rate of alternating projections for the positive semidefinite cone and a line. As a consequence, we show that such alternating projections converge at $O(k^{-1/2})$, independently of the singularity degree. A sufficient condition for the linear convergence is also obtained. Our method directly analyzes the defining equation for an alternating projection sequence and does not use error bounds.

Analytic Formulas for Alternating Projection Sequences for the Positive Semidefinite Cone and an Application to Convergence Analysis

We derive analytic formulas for the alternating projection method applied to the cone $\mathbb{S}^n_+$ of positive semidefinite matrices and an affine subspace. More precisely, we find recursive relations on parameters representing a sequence constructed by the alternating projection method. By applying these formulas, we analyze the alternating projection method in detail and show that the upper bound given by the singularity degree is actually tight when the alternating projection method is applied to $\mathbb{S}^3_+$ and a $3$-plane whose intersection is a singleton with singularity degree $2$.

A D-module approach to invariant distributions with finitely many orbits

Tauchi provides an example illustrating the action of a real algebraic subgroup $H$ of $GL(2n, \mathbb{R})$ with finitely many orbits on $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$, while the dimension of the space of relative $H$-invariant distributions on $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ is infinite. We offer a perspective on this example from the viewpoint of D-modules, where we explicitly determine the simple quotient regular holonomic D-modules and demonstrate that the distributions exhibit an enlarged symmetry.

Convergence rate of alternating projection method for the intersection of an affine subspace and the second-order cone

We study the convergence rate of the alternating projection method (APM) applied to the intersection of an affine subspace and the second-order cone. We show that when they intersect non-transversally, the convergence rate is $O(k^{-1/2})$, where $k$ is the number of iterations of the APM. In particular, when the intersection is not at the origin or forms a half-line with the origin as the endpoint, the obtained convergence rate can be exact because a lower bound of the convergence rate is evaluated. These results coincide with the worst-case convergence rate obtained from the error bound discussed in [Borwein et al., SIOPT, 2014] and [Drusvyatskiy et al., Math. Prog., 2017]. Moreover, we consider the convergence rate of the APM for the intersection of an affine subspace and the product of two second-order cones. We provide an example that the worst-case convergence rate of the APM is better than the rate expected from the error bound for the example.

Fuchsian differential equations of order 3,...,6 with three singular points and an accessory parameter II, Equations of order 3

Fuchsian differential equations of order 3 with three singular points and with an accessory parameter are studied. When local exponents are generic, no shift operator is found, for codimension-1 subfamilies, neither. We found shift operators for several codimension-2 subfamilies of which accessory parameter is assigned as a cubic polynomial in the local exponents. The Dotsenko-Fateev equation is one of them.

Exact Convergence Rates of Alternating Projections for Nontransversal Intersections

We consider the convergence rate of the alternating projection method for the nontransversal intersection of a semialgebraic set and a linear subspace. For such an intersection, the convergence rate is known as sublinear in the worst case. We study the exact convergence rate for a given semialgebraic set and an initial point, and investigate when the convergence rate is linear or sublinear. As a consequence, we show that the exact rates are expressed by multiplicities of the defining polynomials of the semialgebraic set, or related power series in the case that the linear subspace is a line, and we also decide the convergence rate for given data by using elimination theory. Our methods are also applied to give upper bounds for the case that the linear subspace has the dimension more than one. The upper bounds are shown to be tight by obtaining exact convergence rates for a specific semialgebraic set, which depend on the initial points.

Multi-order asymptotic expansion of blow-up solutions for autonomous ODEs. I -- Method and Justification

In this paper, we provide a systematic methodology for calculating multi-order asymptotic expansion of blow-up solutions near blow-up for autonomous ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Under the specific form of the principal term of blow-up solutions for a class of vector fields, we extract algebraic objects determining all possible orders in the asymptotic expansions. Examples for calculating concrete multi-order asymptotic expansions of blow-up solutions are finally collected.

Multi-order asymptotic expansion of blow-up solutions for autonomous ODEs. II -- Dynamical Correspondence

In this paper, we provide a natural correspondence of eigenstructures of Jacobian matrices associated with equilibria for appropriately transformed two systems describing finite-time blow-ups for ODEs with quasi-homogeneity in an asymptotic sense. As a corollary, we see that asymptotic expansions of blow-ups proposed in Part I themselves provide a criterion of the existence of blow-ups with an intrinsic gap structure of stability information among two systems. Examples provided in Part I are revisited to show the above correspondence.

A study of a Fuchsian system of rank 8 in 3 variables and the ordinary differential equations as its restrictions

A Fuchsian system of rank 8 in 3 variables with 4 parameters is presented. The singular locus consists of six planes and a cubic surface. The restriction of the system onto the intersection of two singular planes is an ordinary differential equation of order four with three singular points. A middle convolution of this equation turns out to be the tensor product of two Gauss hypergeometric equation, and another middle convolution sends this equation to the Dotsenko-Fateev equation. Local solutions to these ordinary differential equations are found. Their coefficients are sums of products of the Gamma functions. These sums can be expressed as special values of the generalized hypergeometric series $_4F_3$ at 1. Keywords: Fuchsian differential equation, hypergeometric differential equation, middle convolution, Dotsenko-Fateev equation, recurrence formula, series solution

Method of fundamental solutions for Neumann problems of the modified Helmholtz equation in disk domains

The method of the fundamental solutions (MFS) is used to construct an approximate solution for a partial differential equation in a bounded domain. It is demonstrated by combining the fundamental solutions shifted to the points outside the domain and determining the coefficients of the linear sum to satisfy the boundary condition on the finite points of the boundary. In this paper, the existence of the approximate solution by the MFS for the Neumann problems of the modified Helmholtz equation in disk domains is rigorously demonstrated. We reveal the sufficient condition of the existence of the approximate solution. Applying Green's theorem to the Neumann problem of the modified Helmholtz equation, we bound the error between the approximate solution and exact solution into the difference of the function of the boundary condition and the normal derivative of the approximate solution by boundary integrations. Using this estimate of the error, we show the convergence of the approximate solution by the MFS to the exact solution with exponential order, that is, $N^2a^N$ order, where $a$ is a positive constant less than one and $N$ is the number of collocation points. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the error tends to $0$ in exponential order in the numerical simulations with increasing number of collocation points $N$.

Zeta functions of periodic cubical lattices and cyclotomic-like polynomials

Zeta functions of periodic cubical lattices are explicitly derived by computing all the eigenvalues of the adjacency operators and their characteristic polynomials. We introduce cyclotomic-like polynomials to give factorization of the zeta function in terms of them and count the number of orbits of the Galois action associated with each cyclotomic-like polynomial to obtain its further factorization. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for such a polynomial to be irreducible and discuss its irreducibility from this point of view.

On solutions of linear fractional differential equations and systems thereof

It is well-known that one-dimensional time fractional diffusion-wave equations with variable coefficients can be reduced to ordinary fractional differential equations and systems of linear fractional differential equations via scaling transformations. We then derive exact solutions to classes of linear fractional differential equations and systems thereof expressed in terms of Mittag-Leffler functions, generalized Wright functions and Fox H-functions. These solutions are invariant solutions of diffusion-wave equations obtained through certain transformations, which are briefly discussed. We show that the solutions given in this work contain previously known results as particular cases.
