Unconstrained Lagrangian Formulation for Bosonic Continuous Spin Theory in Flat Spacetime of Arbitrary Dimension

We have discovered two unconstrained forms of free Lagrangian for continuous spin(CS) theory in arbitrary flat spacetime dimension for bosonic case. These Lagrangians, unlike that by Schuster and Toro, do not include delta functions and are conventional. The first form consists of five kinds of totally symmetric helicity fields and one kind of gauge parameter. By introducing auxiliary creation and annihilation operators, each is combined into a state vector in Fock space, including all ranks one by one. The Lagrangian imposes no constraints, such as trace conditions, on these fields or the gauge parameter field. Additionally, the Lagrangian does not contain higher-order derivative terms. In the limit as CS parameter $μ$ approaches zero, it naturally reproduces a Lagrangian for helicity fields in higher spin(HS) theory, known as unconstrained quartet formulation. Permitting third-order derivatives, we also obtain the second unconstrained form of Lagrangian that can be written in terms of three kinds of fields, including $μ$, similar to the formulation by Francia and Sagnotti. Partial gauge fixing and partial use of equations of motion(EOM) on this Lagrangian yield a Fronsdal-like Lagrangian with a single double-traceless field, including $μ$. By imposing further gauge fixing on the field in the EOM with respect to divergence and trace, we confirm the reproduction of the modified Wigner equations already known in literature.

Generation of particle number asymmetry in expanding universe

We study creation and time evolution of particle number asymmetry with nonequilibrium quantum field theory. We introduce a model of a neutral scalar and a complex scalar and it has CP violating and particle number violating features. Starting with an initial condition specified by density operator, we show how particle number asymmetry can be generated through interaction. We investigate the time evolution of particle number asymmetry of universe using perturbation method.

A new mechanism for generating particle number asymmetry through interactions

A new mechanism for generating particle number asymmetry (PNA) has been developed. This mechanism is realized with a Lagrangian including a complex scalar field and a neutral scalar field. The complex scalar carries U(1) charge which is associated with the PNA. It is written in terms of the condensation and Green's function, which is obtained with two-particle irreducible (2PI) closed time path (CTP) effective action (EA). In the spatially flat universe with a time-dependent scale factor, the time evolution of the PNA is computed. We start with an initial condition where only the condensation of the neutral scalar is non-zero. The initial condition for the fields is specified by a density operator parameterized by the temperature of the universe. With the above initial conditions, the PNA vanishes at the initial time and later it is generated through the interaction between the complex scalar and the condensation of the neutral scalar. We investigate the case that both the interaction and the expansion rate of the universe are small and include their effects up to the first order of the perturbation. The expanding universe causes the effects of the dilution of the PNA, freezing interaction and the redshift of the particle energy. As for the time dependence of the PNA, we found that PNA oscillates at the early time and it begins to dump at the later time. The period and the amplitude of the oscillation depend on the mass spectrum of the model, the temperature and the expansion rate of the universe.

Creation and evolution of particle numberasymmetry in an expanding universe

We introduce a model which may generate particle number asymmetry in an expanding Universe. The model includes CP violating and particle number violating interactions. The model consists of a real scalar field and a complex scalar field. Starting with an initial condition specified by a density matrix, we show how the asymmetry is created through the interaction and how it evolves at later time. We compute the asymmetry using non-equilibrium quantum field theory and as a first test of the model, we study how the asymmetry evolves in the flat limit.

Time variation of particle and anti-particle asymmetry in an expanding universe

Particle number violating interactions wash out the primordial asymmetry of particle number density generated by some interaction satisfying Sakharov conditions for baryogenesis. In this paper, we study how the primordial asymmetry evolves in time under the presence of particle number violating interactions and in the environment of expanding universe. We introduce a complex scalar model with particle number violating mass terms and calculate the time evolution of the particle number density with non-equilibrium quantum field theory. We show how the time evolution of the number density depends on parameters, including the chemical potential related with the particle number, temperature, size of the particle number violating mass terms, and the expansion rate of the universe. Depending upon whether the chemical potential is larger or smaller than the rest mass of the scalar particle, behaviors of the number density are very different to each other. When the chemical potential is smaller than the mass, the interference among the contribution of oscillators with various momenta reduces the number density in addition to the dilution due to the expansion of universe. In opposite case, the oscillation of the particle number density lasts for a long time and the cancellation due to the interference does not occur.

Quantum correction to tiny vacuum expectation value in two Higgs doublet model for Dirac neutrino mass

We study a Dirac neutrino mass model of Davidson and Logan. In the model, the smallness of the neutrino mass is originated from the small vacuum expectation value of the second Higgs of two Higgs doublets. We study the one loop effective potential of the Higgs sector and examine how the small vacuum expectation is stable under the radiative correction. By deriving formulae of the radiative correction, we numerically study how large the one loop correction is and show how it depends on the quadratic mass terms and quartic couplings of the Higgs potential. The correction changes depending on the various scenarios for extra Higgs mass spectrum.

Particle number production and time variation with non-equilibrium quantum field theory

We study the particle number production and its time variation using non-equilibrium quantum field theory. We study the model proposed by Hotta et.al. \cite{Hotta:2012hi} for particle number production with a heavy neutral scalar and a light complex scalar. The interaction Lagrangian contains CP violating phase and particle number violating interaction among the scalars. The particle number violating mass term is also introduced, which splits a complex scalar into two real scalars with small non-degenerate mass. Therefore, the term generates particle and anti-particle mixing. We study the long time behavior of the particle number production rate.

Contribution from the interaction Hamiltonian to the expectation value of particle number with the non-equilibrium quantum field theory

We develop the method analyzing particle number non-conserving phenomena with non-equilibrium quantum field theory. In this study, we consider a CP violating model with interaction Hamiltonian that breaks particle number conservation. To derive the quantum Boltzmann equation for the particle number, we solve Schwinger-Dyson equation, which are obtained from two particle irreducible closed-time-path (2PI CTP) effective action. In this calculation, we show the contribution from interaction Hamiltonian to the time evolution of expectation value of particle number.

Multi-fermion interaction models in curved spacetime

A model with a scalar type eight-fermion interaction is investigated in curved spacetime. The ground state of the model can be obtained by observing the effective potential. Applying the Riemann normal coordinate expansion, we calculate an effective potential of the model in a weakly curved spacetime. The result is extended to models with multi-fermion interactions. We numerically show the behavior of the effective potential and find the phase structure of the model.

Interaction between two Fuzzy Spheres

We have calculated interactions between two fuzzy spheres in 3 dimension. It depends on the distance r between the spheres and the radii rho_1, rho_2. There is no force between the spheres when they are far from each other (long distance case). We have also studied the interaction for r=0 case. We find that an attractive force exists between two fuzzy sphere surfaces.

Maxwell Theory from Matrix Model

We present a scenario for deriving Maxwell theory from IIB matrix model. Four dimensional spacetime and theories on it relate different dimensional ones by applying appropriate limits of the backgrounds of matrix model. It is understood by looking at open strings bits as bi-local fields on the spacetime, which are decoupled from the bulk in the limits. The origin of electric-magnetic duality is also discussed in matrix model.

Electric-Magnetic Duality in IIB Matrix Model with D-brane

We consider electric-magnetic duality(S-duality) in IIB matrix model with a D3-brane background. We propose the duality transformation by considering that of noncommutative Yang-Mills theory(NCYM) in four dimension. NCYM derived from the matrix model has a Yang-Mills coupling related to the noncommutativity of the spacetime. We argue that open strings bits as bi-local fields on the spacetime are decoupled from the bulk in NCOS decoupling limits as it is in string theory approach. We also discuss how our four dimensional spacetime relates to higher, by applying the decoupling and the commutative limits of the backgrounds of the matrix model.

D-brane Scattering in IIB String Theory and IIB Matrix Model

We consider two Dirichlet p-branes with lower dimensional brane charges and their scattering. We first calculate the cylinder amplitude of open string with suitable boundary conditions. We compare this result with that in the IIB matrix model. We find the agreement between them in the long distance, low velocity, or large field limit. We also find a way to investigate more general boundary conditions for open string.

4 D Quantum N-Dilaton Gravity and One-Loop Divergence of Effective Action on Constant Dilaton

We consider 4D quantum gravity with N-dilatons with the most general couplings. Especially, on constant dilaton and arbitrary metric background, we show the structure of the divergent terms. We show the constraint between the couplings necessary to cancel the coefficient of the square of the Wyle tensor. Next we show the N dependence of a non-renormalizable divergent term, and found that it cannot be canceled in the case of $N \geq 1$ with any fine-tuning of the couplings.

4-D Quantum Dilaton Gravity During Inflation and Renormalization at One loop

We consider 4D quantum-dilaton gravity with the most general coupling in a homogeneous and isotropic universe, especially an inflationary one, which is essentially characterized by an exponentially expanding scale factor with time. We show that on the inflationary background this theory can be miraculously renormalized, at least at the one-loop level, which must be an effective theory during the inflation of the un-constructed complete quantum theory of gravity.

Conformal Transformation in Gravity

The conformal transformation in the Einstein - Hilbert action leads to a new frame where an extra scalar degree of freedom is compensated by the local conformal-like symmetry. We write down a most general action resulting from such transformation and show that it covers both general relativity and conformally coupled to gravity scalar field as the particular cases. On quantum level the equivalence between the different frames is disturbed by the loop corrections. New conformal-like symmetry in anomalous and, as a result, the theory is not finite on shell at the one-loop order.

One loop renormalization of the four-dimensional theory for quantum dilaton gravity.

We study the one loop renormalization in the most general metric-dilaton theory with the second derivative terms only. The general theory can be divided into two classes, models of one are equivalent to conformally coupled with gravity scalar field and also to general relativity with cosmological term. The models of second class have one extra degree of freedom which corresponds to dilaton. We calculate the one loop divergences for the models of second class and find that the arbitrary functions of dilaton in the starting action can be fine-tuned in such a manner that all the higher derivative counterterms disappear on shell. The only structures in both classical action and counterterms, which survive on shell, are the potential (cosmological) ones. They can be removed by renormalization of the dilaton field which acquire the nontrivial anomalous dimension, that leads to the effective running of the cosmological constant. For some of the renormalizable solutions of the theory the observable low energy value of the cosmological constant is small as compared with the Newtonian constant. We also discuss another application of our result.
