Maneuvering measurement-coherence into measurement-entanglement

Quantum dynamics governs the transformation of static quantum resources, such as coherence and entanglement, in both quantum states and measurements. Prior studies have established that a quantum channel's state-cohering power can be converted into the state-entangling power without additional coherence. Here, we complete this coherence-to-entanglement paradigm by demonstrating that a channel's measurement-cohering power can likewise be converted into the measurement-entangling power. This result reinforces, on the dynamical level, the intuition that entanglement emerges as a manifestation of coherence. To formalize this picture, we develop resource theories for measurement-cohering and measurement-entangling powers and characterize the structure of incoherent measurements to analyze measurement-coherence generation. Furthermore, we show that the state-cohering power of a quantum channel is equivalent to the measurement-cohering power of its adjoint map, and a corresponding equivalence also exists between the state-entangling power and the measurement-entangling power.

Relation between Quantum Coherence and Quantum Entanglement in Quantum Measurements

Quantum measurement is a class of quantum channels that sends quantum states to classical states. We set up resource theories of quantum coherence and quantum entanglement for quantum measurements and find relations between them. For this, we conceive a relative entropy type quantity to account for the quantum resources of quantum measurements. The quantum coherence of a quantum measurement can be converted into the entanglement in a bipartite quantum measurement through coherence-non generating transformations. Conversely, a quantum entanglement monotone of quantum measurements induces a quantum coherence monotone of quantum measurement. Our results confirm that the understanding on the link between quantum coherence and quantum entanglement is valid even for quantum measurements which do not generate any quantum resource.

One-Shot Static Entanglement Cost of Bipartite Quantum Channels

We first investigate the one-shot static entanglement cost to simulate a bipartite quantum channel under the set of non-entangling channels. The lower bound on the static entanglement cost is given by the generalized robustness of the target channel as well as the robust-generating power of the channel, which implies that the cost necessary to generate a bipartite quantum channel might not be retrievable in general. Next, we conceive a set of quantum channels that extends the set of non-entangling channels. We find out that the one-shot static entanglement cost under the extended set of channels is given by the channel's standard log-robustness. This gives the one-shot dynamic entanglement cost under a set of free superchannels that do not generate dynamic entanglement resource; the extended set is shown to be equivalent to the set of free superchannels.

One-shot manipulation of entanglement for quantum channels

We show that the dynamic resource theory of quantum entanglement can be formulated using the superchannel theory. In this formulation, we identify the separable channels and the class of free superchannels that preserve channel separability as free resources, and choose the swap channels as dynamic entanglement golden units. Our first result is that the one-shot dynamic entanglement cost of a bipartite quantum channel under the free superchannels is bounded by the standard log-robustness of channels. The one-shot distillable dynamic entanglement of a bipartite quantum channel under the free superchannels is found to be bounded by a resource monotone that we construct from the hypothesis-testing relative entropy of channels with minimization over separable channels. We also address the one-shot catalytic dynamic entanglement cost of a bipartite quantum channel under a larger class of free superchannels that could generate the dynamic entanglement which is asymptotically negligible; it is bounded by the generalized log-robustness of channels.

Enhanced multipartite quantum correlations by non-Gaussian operations

We study how conditional photon operations can affect multipartite quantum correlations, specifically nonlocality and entanglement, of the continuous variable GHZ states. We find that the violation of the Mermin-Klyshko inequality revealing the multipartite nonlocality can be made stronger with photon subtraction applied on each mode of the original GHZ states, particularly in a weak squeezing regime. Photon addition applied on local modes also turns out to enhance the degree of multipartite nonlocality in a broad range of parameters. We further investigate the effects of the photon operations on the degree of multipartite entanglement by looking into the Gaussian tangle, the fidelity of teleportation network, and the quadrature correlations. We find that photon subtraction applied on two modes enhances those entanglement characteristics in a practical squeezing regime while there is no improvement made by photon addition.

Quantum linear amplifier enhanced by photon subtraction and addition

A deterministic quantum amplifier inevitably adds noise to an amplified signal due to the uncertainty principle in quantum physics. We here investigate how a quantum-noise-limited amplifier can be improved by additionally employing the photon subtraction, the photon addition, and a coherent superposition of the two, thereby making a probabilistic, heralded, quantum amplifier. We show that these operations can enhance the performance in amplifying a coherent state in terms of intensity gain, fidelity, and phase uncertainty. In particular, the photon subtraction turns out to be optimal for the fidelity and the phase concentration among these elementary operations, while the photon addition also provides a significant reduction in the phase uncertainty with the largest gain effect.

Enhancing quantum entanglement for continuous variables by a coherent superposition of photon subtraction and addition

We investigate how the entanglement properties of a two-mode state can be improved by performing a coherent superposition operation of photon subtraction and addition, proposed by Lee and Nha [Phys. Rev. A 82, 053812 (2010)], on each mode. We show that the degree of entanglement, the EPR-type correlation, and the performance of quantum teleportation can be all enhanced for the output state when the coherent operation is applied to a two-mode squeezed state. The effects of the coherent operation are more prominent than those of the mere photon subtraction and the addition particularly in the small squeezing regime, whereas the optimal operation becomes the photon subtraction in the large-squeezing regime.
