Minimalist Preprocessing Approach for Image Synthesis Detection

Generative models have significantly advanced image generation, resulting in synthesized images that are increasingly indistinguishable from authentic ones. However, the creation of fake images with malicious intent is a growing concern. Low-configured smart devices have become highly popular, making it easier for deceptive images to reach users. Consequently, the demand for effective detection methods is increasingly urgent. In this paper, we introduce a simple yet efficient method that captures pixel fluctuations between neighboring pixels by calculating the gradient, which highlights variations in grayscale intensity. This approach functions as a high-pass filter, emphasizing key features for accurate image distinction while minimizing color influence. Our experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that our method achieves accuracy levels comparable to state-of-the-art techniques while requiring minimal computational resources. Therefore, it is suitable for deployment on low-end devices such as smartphones. The code is available at https://github.com/vohoaidanh/adof.

Rethinking Text-to-Image as Semantic-Aware Data Augmentation for Indoor Scene Recognition

In the realm of computer vision, indoor image recognition presents challenges due to the intricate interplay of lighting conditions, occlusions, and diverse object arrangements within confined spaces. To address the lacks of training indoor images, we introduce a novel approach leveraging Stable Diffusion (SD) for the generation of synthetic images, which serve as a powerful data augmentation tool. The utilization of SD offers a principled framework for synthesizing diverse and realistic indoor scenes, thereby enriching the training data pool for robust indoor image recognition models. Experimental findings on the MIT Indoor Scene dataset reveal the potential of our proposed approach in enhancing the training of deep models when authentic data is limited. Furthermore, to prevent the misuse of SD synthetic images, we introduce a counter measure based on DIffusion Reconstruction Error (DIRE). The powerful DIRE presentation enables training robust classifiers only using lightweight deep models. Experiments show that our approach can perfectly recognize SD generated images with the accuracy of 100% using MobilenetV3.

SketchANIMAR: Sketch-based 3D Animal Fine-Grained Retrieval

The retrieval of 3D objects has gained significant importance in recent years due to its broad range of applications in computer vision, computer graphics, virtual reality, and augmented reality. However, the retrieval of 3D objects presents significant challenges due to the intricate nature of 3D models, which can vary in shape, size, and texture, and have numerous polygons and vertices. To this end, we introduce a novel SHREC challenge track that focuses on retrieving relevant 3D animal models from a dataset using sketch queries and expedites accessing 3D models through available sketches. Furthermore, a new dataset named ANIMAR was constructed in this study, comprising a collection of 711 unique 3D animal models and 140 corresponding sketch queries. Our contest requires participants to retrieve 3D models based on complex and detailed sketches. We receive satisfactory results from eight teams and 204 runs. Although further improvement is necessary, the proposed task has the potential to incentivize additional research in the domain of 3D object retrieval, potentially yielding benefits for a wide range of applications. We also provide insights into potential areas of future research, such as improving techniques for feature extraction and matching and creating more diverse datasets to evaluate retrieval performance. https://aichallenge.hcmus.edu.vn/sketchanimar
