Quantum-group-invariant $D^{(2)}_{n+1}$ models: Bethe ansatz and finite-size spectrum

We consider the quantum integrable spin chain models associated with the Jimbo R-matrix based on the quantum affine algebra $D^{(2)}_{n+1}$, subject to quantum-group-invariant boundary conditions parameterized by two discrete variables $p=0,\dots, n$ and $\varepsilon = 0, 1$. We develop the analytical Bethe ansatz for the previously unexplored case $\varepsilon = 1$ with any $n$, and use it to investigate the effects of different boundary conditions on the finite-size spectrum of the quantum spin chain based on the rank-$2$ algebra $D^{(2)}_3$. Previous work on this model with periodic boundary conditions has shown that it is critical for the range of anisotropy parameters $0<\gamma<\pi/4$, where its scaling limit is described by a non-compact CFT with continuous degrees of freedom related to two copies of the 2D black hole sigma model. The scaling limit of the model with quantum-group-invariant boundary conditions depends on the parameter $\varepsilon$: similarly as in the rank-$1$ $D^{(2)}_2$ chain, we find that the symmetry of the lattice model is spontaneously broken, and the spectrum of conformal weights has both discrete and continuous components, for $\varepsilon=1$. For $p=1$, the latter coincides with that of the $D^{(2)}_2$ chain, which should correspond to a non-compact brane related to one black hole CFT in the presence of boundaries. For $\varepsilon=0$, the spectrum of conformal weights is purely discrete.

Non-linear integral equations for the XXX spin-1/2 quantum chain with non-diagonal boundary fields

The XXX spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg chain with non-diagonal boundary fields represents a cornerstone model in the study of integrable systems with open boundaries. Despite its significance, solving this model exactly has remained a formidable challenge due to the breaking of $U(1)$ symmetry. Building on the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz (ODBA), we derive a set of nonlinear integral equations (NLIEs) that encapsulate the exact spectrum of the model. For $U(1)$ symmetric spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ chains such NLIEs involve two functions $a(x)$ and $\bar{a}(x)$ coupled by an integration kernel with short-ranged elements. The solution functions show characteristic features for arguments at some length scale which grows logarithmically with system size $N$. For the non $U(1)$ symmetric case, the equations involve a novel third function $c(x)$, which captures the inhomogeneous contributions of the $T$-$Q$ relation. The kernel elements coupling this function to the standard ones are long-ranged and lead for the ground-state to a winding phenomenon. In $\log(1+a(x))$ and $\log(1+\bar a(x))$ we observe a sudden change by $2\pi$i at a characteristic scale $x_1$ of the argument. Other features appear at a value $x_0$ which is of order $\log N$. These two length scales, $x_1$ and $x_0$, are independent: their ratio $x_1/x_0$ is large for small $N$ and small for large $N$. Explicit solutions to the NLIEs are obtained numerically for these limiting cases, though intermediate cases ($x_1/x_0 \sim 1$) present computational challenges. This work lays the foundation for studying finite-size corrections and conformal properties of other integrable spin chains with non-diagonal boundaries, opening new avenues for exploring boundary effects in quantum integrable systems.

Finite-size spectrum of the staggered six-vertex model with antidiagonal boundary conditions

The finite-size spectrum of the critical staggered six-vertex model with antidiagonal boundary conditions is studied. Similar to the case of periodic boundary conditions, we identify three different phases. In two of those, the underlying conformal field theory can be identified to be related to the twisted $U(1)$ Kac-Moody algebra. In contrast, the finite size scaling in the third regime, whose critical behaviour with the (quasi-)periodic BCs is related to the 2d black hole CFTs possessing a non-compact degree of freedom, is more subtle. Here with antidiagonal BCs imposed, the corrections to the scaling of the ground state grow logarithmically with the system size, while the energy gaps appear to close logarithmically. Moreover, we obtain an explicit formula for the Q-operator which is useful for numerical implementation.

Scaling limit of the staggered six-vertex model with $U_q\big(\mathfrak{sl}(2)\big)$ invariant boundary conditions

We study the scaling limit of a statistical system, which is a special case of the integrable inhomogeneous six-vertex model. It possesses $U_q\big(\mathfrak{sl}(2)\big)$ invariance due to the choice of open boundary conditions imposed. An interesting feature of the lattice theory is that the spectrum of scaling dimensions contains a continuous component. By applying the ODE/IQFT correspondence and the method of the Baxter $Q$ operator the corresponding density of states is obtained. In addition, the partition function appearing in the scaling limit of the lattice model is computed, which may be of interest for the study of nonrational CFTs in the presence of boundaries. As a side result of the research, a simple formula for the matrix elements of the $Q$ operator for the general, integrable, inhomogeneous six-vertex model was discovered, that has not yet appeared in the literature. It is valid for a certain one parameter family of diagonal open boundary conditions in the sector with the $z\,$-projection of the total spin operator being equal to zero.

The $D^{(2)}_{3}$ spin chain and its finite-size spectrum

Using the analytic Bethe ansatz, we initiate a study of the scaling limit of the quasi-periodic $D^{(2)}_3$ spin chain. Supported by a detailed symmetry analysis, we determine the effective scaling dimensions of a large class of states in the parameter regime $γ\in (0,\fracπ{4})$. Besides two compact degrees of freedom, we identify two independent continuous components in the finite-size spectrum. The influence of large twist angles on the latter reveals also the presence of discrete states. This allows for a conjecture on the central charge of the conformal field theory describing the scaling limit of the lattice model.

Factorization of density matrices in the critical RSOS models

We study reduced density matrices of the integrable critical RSOS model in a particular topological sector containing the ground state. Similar as in the spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg model it has been observed that correlation functions of this model on short segments can be `factorized': they are completely determined by a single nearest-neighbour two-point function $ω$ and a set of structure functions. While $ω$ captures the dependence on the system size and the state of the system the structure functions can be expressed in terms of the possible operators on the segment, in the present case representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $\text{TL}_n$, and are independent of the model parameters. We present explicit results for the function $ω$ in the infinite system ground state of the model and compute multi-point local height probabilities for up to four adjacent sites for the RSOS model and the related three-point correlation functions of non-Abelian $su(2)_k$ anyons.

$U_q[OSp(3|2)]$ quantum chains with quantum group invariant boundaries

Based on the finite-size analysis of the spectrum of the quantum group invariant deformation of the $OSp(3|2)$ superspin chain we identify the operator content of the conformal field theory describing the model in its scaling limit. We find that the macroscopic degeneracy of the conformal weights observed in the thermodynamic limit of the isotropic superspin chain is lifted by the deformation.

Integrable boundary conditions for staggered vertex models

Yang-Baxter integrable vertex models with a generic $\mathbb{Z}_2$-staggering can be expressed in terms of composite $\mathbb{R}$-matrices given in terms of the elementary $R$-matrices. Similarly, integrable open boundary conditions can be constructed through generalized reflection algebras based on these objects and their representations in terms of composite boundary matrices $\mathbb{K}^\pm$. We show that only two types of staggering yield a local Hamiltonian with integrable open boundary conditions in this approach. The staggering in the underlying model allows for a second hierarchy of commuting integrals of motion (in addition to the one including the Hamiltonian obtained from the usual transfer matrix), starting with the so-called quasi momentum operator. In this paper, we show that this quasi momentum operator can be obtained together with the Hamiltonian for both periodic and open models in a unified way from enlarged Yang-Baxter or reflection algebras in the composite picture. For the special case of the staggered six-vertex model, this allows constructing an integrable spectral flow between the two local cases.

$OSp(n|2m)$ quantum chains with free boundaries

In this paper we investigate the spectrum of $OSp(n|2m)$ quantum spin chains with free boundary conditions. We compute the surface free energy of these models which, similar to other properties in the thermodynamic limit including the effective central charge of the underlying conformal field theory, depends on $n-2m$ only. For several models in the regime $n-2m< 2$ we have studied the finite-size properties including the subleading logarithmic corrections to scaling. As in the case of periodic boundary conditions we find the existence of a tower of states with the same conformal dimension as the identity operator. As expected the amplitudes of the corresponding logarithmic corrections differ from those found previously for the models with periodic boundary conditions. We point out however the existence of simple relations connecting such amplitudes for free and periodic boundaries. Based on our findings we formulate a conjecture on the long distance behaviour of the bulk and surface watermelon correlators.

Finite size spectrum of the staggered six-vertex model with $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}(2))$-invariant boundary conditions

The finite size spectrum of the critical $\mathbb{Z}_2$-staggered spin-$1/2$ XXZ model with quantum group invariant boundary conditions is studied. For a particular (self-dual) choice of the staggering the spectrum of conformal weights of this model has been recently been shown to have a continuous component, similar as in the model with periodic boundary conditions whose continuum limit has been found to be described in terms of the non-compact $SU(2,\mathbb{R})/U(1)$ Euclidean black hole conformal field theory (CFT). Here we show that the same is true for a range of the staggering parameter. In addition we find that levels from the discrete part of the spectrum of this CFT emerge as the anisotropy is varied. The finite size amplitudes of both the continuous and the discrete levels are related to the corresponding eigenvalues of a quasi-momentum operator which commutes with the Hamiltonian and the transfer matrix of the model.

Density matrices in integrable face models

Using the properties of the local Boltzmann weights of integrable interaction-round-a-face (IRF or face) models we express local operators in terms of generalized transfer matrices. This allows for the derivation of discrete functional equations for the reduced density matrices in inhomogeneous generalizations of these models. We apply these equations to study the density matrices for IRF models of various solid-on-solid type and quantum chains of non-Abelian $\bm{su(2)_3}$ or Fibonacci anyons. Similar as in the six vertex model we find that reduced density matrices for a sequence of consecutive sites can be 'factorized', i.e.\ expressed in terms of nearest-neighbour correlators with coefficients which are independent of the model parameters. Explicit expressions are provided for correlation functions on up to three neighbouring sites.

Condensates of interacting non-Abelian $SO(5)_{N_f}$ anyons

Starting from a one-dimensional model of relativistic fermions with $SO(5)$ spin and $U(N_f)$ flavor degrees of freedom we study the condensation of $SO(5)_{N_f}$ anyons. In the low-energy limit the quasi-particles in the spin sector of this model are found to be massive solitons forming multiplets in the $SO(5)$ vector or spinor representations. The solitons carry internal degrees of freedom which are identified as $SO(5)_{N_f}$ anyons. By controlling the external magnetic fields the transitions from a dilute gas of free anyons to various collective states of interacting ones are observed. We identify the generalized parafermionic cosets describing these collective states and propose a low temperature phase diagram for the anyonic modes.

On the critical behaviour of the integrable $q$-deformed $OSp(3|2)$ superspin chain

This paper is concerned with the investigation of the massless regime of an integrable spin chain based on the quantum group deformation of the $OSp(3|2)$ superalgebra. The finite-size properties of the eigenspectra are computed by solving the respective Bethe ansatz equations for large system sizes allowing us to uncover the low-lying critical exponents. We present evidences that critical exponents appear to be built in terms of composites of anomalous dimensions of two Coulomb gases with distinct radii and the exponents associated to $Z(2)$ degrees of freedom. This view is supported by the fact that the $S=1$ XXZ integrable chain spectrum is present in some of the sectors of our superspin chain at a particular value of the deformation parameter. We find that the fine structure of finite-size effects is very rich for a typical anisotropic spin chain. In fact, we argue on the existence of a family of states with the same conformal dimension whose lattice degeneracies are apparently lifted by logarithmic corrections. On the other hand we also report on states of the spectrum whose finite-size corrections seem to be governed by a power law behaviour. We finally observe that under toroidal boundary conditions the ground state dependence on the twist angle has two distinct analytical structures.

Extended T-systems, Q matrices and T-Q relations for $s\ell(2)$ models at roots of unity

The mutually commuting $1\times n$ fused single and double-row transfer matrices of the critical six-vertex model are considered at roots of unity $q=e^{iλ}$ with crossing parameter $λ=\frac{(p'-p)π}{p'}$ a rational fraction of $π$. The $1\times n$ transfer matrices of the dense loop model analogs, namely the logarithmic minimal models ${\cal LM}(p,p')$, are similarly considered. For these $s\ell(2)$ models, we find explicit closure relations for the $T$-system functional equations and obtain extended sets of bilinear $T$-system identities. We also define extended $Q$ matrices as linear combinations of the fused transfer matrices and obtain extended matrix $T$-$Q$ relations. These results hold for diagonal twisted boundary conditions on the cylinder as well as $U_q(s\ell(2))$ invariant/Kac vacuum and off-diagonal/Robin vacuum boundary conditions on the strip. Using our extended $T$-system and extended $T$-$Q$ relations for eigenvalues, we deduce the usual scalar Baxter $T$-$Q$ relation and the Bazhanov-Mangazeev decomposition of the fused transfer matrices $T^{n}(u+λ)$ and $D^{n}(u+λ)$, at fusion level $n=p'-1$, in terms of the product $Q^+(u)Q^-(u)$ or $Q(u)^2$. It follows that the zeros of $T^{p'-1}(u+λ)$ and $D^{p'-1}(u+λ)$ are comprised of the Bethe roots and complete $p'$ strings. We also clarify the formal observations of Pronko and Yang-Nepomechie-Zhang and establish, under favourable conditions, the existence of an infinite fusion limit $n\to\infty$ in the auxiliary space of the fused transfer matrices. Despite this connection, the infinite-dimensional oscillator representations are not needed at roots of unity due to finite closure of the functional equations.

Condensation of non-Abelian $SU(3)_{N_f}$ anyons in a one-dimensional fermion model

The color excitations of interacting fermions carrying an $SU(3)$ color and $U(N_f)$ flavor index in one spatial dimension are studied in the framework of a perturbed $SU(3)_{N_f}$ Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten model. Using Bethe ansatz methods the low energy quasi-particles are found to be massive solitons forming $SU(3)$ quark and antiquark multiplets. In addition to the color index the solitons carry an internal degree of freedom with non-integer quantum dimension. These zero modes are identified as non-Abelian anyons satisfying $SU(3)_{N_f}$ fusion rules. Controlling the soliton density by external fields allows to drive the condensation of these anyons into various collective states. The latter are described by parafermionic cosets related to the symmetry of the system. Based on the numerical solution of the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations we propose a low temperature phase diagram for this model.

Signatures of non-Abelian anyons in the thermodynamics of an interacting fermion model

The contribution of anyonic degrees of freedom emerging in the non-Abelian spin sector of a one-dimensional system of interacting fermions carrying both $SU(2)$ spin and $SU(N_f)$ orbital degrees of freedom to the thermodynamic properties of the latter is studied based on the exact solution of the model. For sufficiently small temperatures and magnetic fields the anyons appear as zero energy modes localized at the massive kink excitations [A. M. Tsvelik, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{113} (2014) 066401]. From their quantum dimension they are identified as $SU(2)_{N_f}$ spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ anyons. The density of kinks (and anyons) can be controlled by an external magnetic field leading to the formation of a collective state of these anyons described by a $Z_{N_f}$ parafermion conformal field theory for large fields. Based on the numerical analysis of the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations we propose a phase diagram for the anyonic modes.

$\mathbf{Z}_{n}$ clock models and chains of $so(n)_2$ non-Abelian anyons: symmetries, integrable points and low energy properties

We study two families of quantum models which have been used previously to investigate the effect of topological symmetries in one-dimensional correlated matter. Various striking similarities are observed between certain $\mathbf{Z}_n$ quantum clock models, spin chains generalizing the Ising model, and chains of non-Abelian anyons constructed from the $so(n)_2$ fusion category for odd $n$, both subject to periodic boundary conditions. In spite of the differences between these two types of quantum chains, e.g.\ their Hilbert spaces being spanned by tensor products of local spin states or fusion paths of anyons, the symmetries of the lattice models are shown to be closely related. Furthermore, under a suitable mapping between the parameters describing the interaction between spins and anyons the respective Hamiltonians share part of their energy spectrum (although their degeneracies may differ). This spin-anyon correspondence can be extended by fine-tuning of the coupling constants leading to exactly solvable models. We show that the algebraic structures underlying the integrability of the clock models and the anyon chain are the same. For $n=3,5,7$ we perform an extensive finite size study -- both numerical and based on the exact solution -- of these models to map out their ground state phase diagram and to identify the effective field theories describing their low energy behaviour. We observe that the continuum limit at the integrable points can be described by rational conformal field theories with extended symmetry algebras which can be related to the discrete ones of the lattice models.
