Mock modularity of the $M_d$-rank of overpartitions

We investigate the modular properties of a new partition rank, the $M_d$-rank of overpartitions. In fact this is an infinite family of ranks, indexed by the positive integer $d$, that gives both the Dyson rank of overpartitions and the overpartition $M_2$-rank as special cases. The $M_d$-rank of overpartitions is the holomorphic part of a certain harmonic Maass form of weight $\frac{1}{2}$. We give the exact transformation of this harmonic Maass form along with a few identities for the $M_d$-rank.

A Cubic Transformation Formula for Appell-Lauricella Hypergeometric Functions over Finite Fields

We define a finite-field version of Appell-Lauricella hypergeometric functions built from period functions in several variables, paralleling the development by Fuselier, et. al in the single variable case. We develop geometric connections between these functions and the family of generalized Picard curves. In our main result, we use finite-field Appell-Lauricella functions to establish a finite-field analogue of Koike and Shiga's cubic transformation for the Appell hypergeometric function $F_1$, proving a conjecture of Ling Long. We use our multivariable period functions to construct formulas for the number of $\mathbb{F}_p$-points on the generalized Picard curves. We also give some transformation and reduction formulas for the period functions, and consequently for the finite-field Appell-Lauricella functions.

Quantum mock modular forms arising from eta-theta functions

In 2013, Lemke Oliver classified all eta-quotients which are theta functions. In this paper, we unify the eta-theta functions by constructing mock modular forms from the eta-theta functions with even characters, such that the shadows of these mock modular forms are given by the eta-theta functions with odd characters. In addition, we prove that our mock modular forms are quantum modular forms. As corollaries, we establish simple finite hypergeometric expressions which may be used to evaluate Eichler integrals of the odd eta-theta functions, as well as some curious algebraic identities.

On a conjecture of Kimoto and Wakayama

We prove a conjecture due to Kimoto and Wakayama from 2006 concerning Apery-like numbers associated to a special value of a spectral zeta function. Our proof uses hypergeometric series and p-adic analysis.

Extension of a proof of the Ramanujan congruences for multipartitions

Recently Lachterman, Schayer, and Younger published an elegant proof of the Ramanujan congruences for the partition function $p(n)$. Their proof uses only the classical theory of modular forms as well as a beautiful result of Choie, Kohnen, and Ono, without need for Hecke operators. In this paper we give a method for generalizing Lachterman, Schayer, and Younger's proof to include Ramanujan congruences for multipartition functions $p_k(n)$, and Ramanujan congruences for $p(n)$ modulo certain prime powers.

Generalized Legendre curves and Quaternionic Multiplication

This paper is devoted to abelian varieties arising from generalized Legendre curves. In particular, we consider their corresponding Galois representations, periods, and endomorphism algebras. For certain one parameter families of 2-dimensional abelian varieties of this kind, we determine when the endomorphism algebra of each fiber defined over the algebraic closure of $\Bbb Q$ contains a quaternion algebra.

A proof of some conjectures of Mao on partition rank inequalities

Based on work of Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer on partition rank difference functions, and more recent work of Lovejoy and Osburn, Mao has proved several inequalities between partition ranks modulo $10$, and additional results modulo $6$ and $10$ for the $M_2$ rank of partitions without repeated odd parts. Mao conjectured some additional inequalities. We prove some of Mao's rank inequality conjectures for both the rank and the $M_2$ rank modulo $10$ using elementary methods.

A periodic approach to plane partition congruences

Ramanujan's celebrated congruences of the partition function $p(n)$ have inspired a vast amount of results on various partition functions. Kwong's work on periodicity of rational polynomial functions yields a general theorem used to establish congruences for restricted plane partitions. This theorem provides a novel proof of several classical congruences and establishes two new congruences. We additionally prove several new congruences which do not fit the scope of the theorem, using only elementary techniques, or a relationship to existing multipartition congruences.

On the supercongruence conjectures of van Hamme

In 1997, van Hamme developed $p-$adic analogs, for primes $p$, of several series which relate hypergeometric series to values of the gamma function, originally studied by Ramanujan. These analogs relate truncated sums of hypergeometric series to values of the $p-$adic gamma function, and are called Ramanujan type supercongruences. In all, van Hamme conjectured 13 such formulas, three of which were proved by van Hamme himself, and five others have been proved recently using a wide range of methods. Here, we explore four of the remaining five van Hamme supercongruences, revisit some of the proved ones, and provide some extensions.

Zeros of some level 2 Eisenstein series

The zeros of classical Eisenstein series satisfy many intriguing properties. Work of F. Rankin and Swinnerton-Dyer pinpoints their location to a certain arc of the fundamental domain, and recent work by Nozaki explores their interlacing property. In this paper we extend these distribution properties to a particular family of Eisenstein series on Gamma(2) because of its elegant connection to a classical Jacobi elliptic function cn(u) which satisfies a differential equation. As part of this study we recursively define a sequence of polynomials from the differential equation mentioned above that allow us to calculate zeros of these Eisenstein series. We end with a result linking the zeros of these Eisenstein series to an L-series.
