Can Aerial VLA Models Cooperate? Evaluating Closed-Loop Air-Ground Coordination with CARLA-Air

Recent aerial vision-language-action (VLA) models show promising single-UAV capabilities, such as tracking moving objects and navigating to language-specified landmarks. However, it remains unclear whether these capabilities can transfer to air-ground cooperation, where a UAV and a UGV must act jointly in a shared, closed-loop physical world. We study this question with CARLA-Air, a single-process air-ground evaluation environment that unifies CARLA and AirSim inside one Unreal Engine runtime. By sharing the same world state, physics tick, and sensing pipeline, CARLA-Air enables physically consistent UAV--UGV interaction and precise measurement of simulation-timestamp alignment and effective coordination latency. Using CARLA-Air, we evaluate representative aerial VLA and planning baselines on two complementary diagnostic tasks: moving-platform landing and occlusion-recovery escort. The results show that current aerial VLA models can often track or follow a ground partner, but struggle to convert this single-agent competence into stable cooperative behavior. State prompting provides limited benefit, and naive bidirectional interaction fails to consistently improve performance and can amplify errors for most baselines. These findings suggest that, under the tested text-based cue interfaces, zero-shot cooperative air-ground VLA requires three components beyond the current paradigm: explicit partner-state grounding, low-latency action coordination, and team-level objective alignment. TARIC: Memory-Augmented Traversability-Aware Outdoor VLN under Interrupted Semantic Cues

Outdoor vision-language navigation (VLN) in long-range, open-world environments is frequently disrupted by semantic-cue interruptions, where informative goal cues become sparse, occluded, or leave the field of view. Once such cues disappear, agents enter a cue-free phase and often degrade into backtracking, oscillatory headings, or aimless exploration. While memory-based methods attempt to bridge these gaps, they often fail under traversability-driven detours: the remembered cue direction may be infeasible, forcing detours that prolong cue-free phases and gradually render robot-centric cues stale and implicit histories blurred. This makes traversability a stability condition for maintaining goal-directed guidance, rather than merely a local safety concern. We propose a unified outdoor VLN framework that survives semantic-cue interruptions by maintaining traversability-consistent executable guidance throughout prolonged cue-free phases. Specifically, our method extracts semantic bearings from visibility-gated goal or exploration cues and grounds them into executable headings using a real-time near-field traversability profile, providing goal-consistent feasible guidance beyond reject-only safety filtering. To prevent guidance degradation during detours, we lift intermittent 2D evidence into a world-aligned 3D cue memory with an uncertainty-aware readout mechanism, ensuring guidance remains continuously reachable and stable as the robot moves. We evaluate the framework on quadrupedal and wheeled platforms over 600--1000 m routes. Our method improves simulation success rate by over 10 percentage points over the strongest baseline and achieves a real-world success rate of 40%, compared to 17.5% for the strongest baseline, with substantially higher robustness during prolonged cue-free intervals.

Ultrahigh-Q All-Metallic Metasurfaces with Robust Near-Perfect Absorption

High quality-factor (Q) resonant metasurfaces have attracted significant attention due to their potential applications in cutting-edge fields of optics. However, limited by intrinsic dissipation losses, achieving both an extremely high Q factor and perfect absorption for strong light-matter interaction control in plasmonic metasurface is still highly challenging. Here, we demonstrate a plasmonic metasurface composed of symmetric double-pillars (SDPs) on a gold film, in which the flexibly tuned geometric space enables precise control over the nonlocality of dark-mode Fabry-Perot bound states in the continuum (FP-BIC) and its coupling with Rayleigh anomaly (RA)-associated lattice resonance. Based on the coupling control between these two modes, the radiative and dissipative losses are well balanced, resulting in a measured Q factor of 2180 (theoretical 2800) and absorption nearly 99%. Notably, the near-perfect absorption response is maintained over broad geometric parameter windows of SDPs (height h=70-120nm, radius r=210-280nm), while the resonance retains a consistently high Q factor throughout these ranges. This hybrid coupling strategy establishes a general framework for designing high-Q, near-critical coupling plasmonic devices for ultrasensitive sensing, narrowband filtering, and active photonics.

Follow-Bench: A Unified Motion Planning Benchmark for Socially-Aware Robot Person Following

Robot person following (RPF) -- mobile robots that follow and assist a specific person -- has emerging applications in personal assistance, security patrols, eldercare, and logistics. To be effective, such robots must follow the target while ensuring safety and comfort for both the target and surrounding people. In this work, we present the first comprehensive study of RPF, which (i) surveys representative scenarios, motion-planning methods, and evaluation metrics with a focus on safety and comfort; (ii) introduces Follow-Bench, a unified benchmark simulating diverse scenarios, including various target trajectory patterns, crowd dynamics, and environmental layouts; and (iii) re-implements eight representative RPF planners, ensuring that both safety and comfort are systematically considered. Moreover, we evaluate the two best-performing planners from our benchmark on a differential-drive robot to provide insights into real-world deployment of RPF planners. Extensive simulation and real-world experiments provide quantitative study of the safety-comfort trade-offs of existing planners, while revealing open challenges and future research directions.

ProDrive: Proactive Planning for Autonomous Driving via Ego-Environment Co-Evolution

End-to-end autonomous driving planners typically generate trajectories from current observations alone. However, real-world driving is highly dynamic, and such reactive planning cannot anticipate future scene evolution, often leading to myopic decisions and safety-critical failures. We propose ProDrive, a world-model-based proactive planning framework that enables ego-environment co-evolution for autonomous driving. ProDrive jointly trains a query-centric trajectory planner and a bird's-eye-view (BEV) world model end-to-end: the planner generates diverse candidate trajectories and planning-aware ego tokens, while the world model predicts future scene evolution conditioned on them. By injecting planner features into the world model and evaluating all candidates in parallel, ProDrive preserves end-to-end gradient flow and allows future outcome assessment to directly shape planning. This bidirectional coupling enables proactive planning beyond current-observation-driven decision-making. Experiments on NAVSIM v1 show that ProDrive outperforms strong baselines in both safety and planning efficiency, while ablations validate the effectiveness of the proposed ego-environment coupling design.

Diffusion Templates: A Unified Plugin Framework for Controllable Diffusion

Controllable diffusion methods have substantially expanded the practical utility of diffusion models, but they are typically developed as isolated, backbone-specific systems with incompatible training pipelines, parameter formats, and runtime hooks. This fragmentation makes it difficult to reuse infrastructure across tasks, transfer capabilities across backbones, or compose multiple controls within a single generation pipeline. We present Diffusion Templates, a unified and open plugin framework that decouples base-model inference from controllable capability injection. The framework is organized around three components: Template models that map arbitrary task-specific inputs to an intermediate capability representation, a Template cache that functions as a standardized interface for capability injection, and a Template pipeline that loads, merges, and injects one or more Template caches into the base diffusion runtime. Because the interface is defined at the systems level rather than tied to a specific control architecture, heterogeneous capability carriers such as KV-Cache and LoRA can be supported under the same abstraction. Based on this design, we build a diverse model zoo spanning structural control, brightness adjustment, color adjustment, image editing, super-resolution, sharpness enhancement, aesthetic alignment, content reference, local inpainting, and age control. These case studies show that Diffusion Templates can unify a broad range of controllable generation tasks while preserving modularity, composability, and practical extensibility across rapidly evolving diffusion backbones. All resources will be open sourced, including code, models, and datasets.

Unveiling Uncertainty-Aware Autonomous Cooperative Learning Based Planning Strategy

In future intelligent transportation systems, autonomous cooperative planning (ACP), becomes a promising technique to increase the effectiveness and security of multi-vehicle interactions. However, multiple uncertainties cannot be fully addressed for existing ACP strategies, e.g. perception, planning, and communication uncertainties. To address these, a novel deep reinforcement learning-based autonomous cooperative planning (DRLACP) framework is proposed to tackle various uncertainties on cooperative motion planning schemes. Specifically, the soft actor-critic (SAC) with the implementation of gate recurrent units (GRUs) is adopted to learn the deterministic optimal time-varying actions with imperfect state information occurred by planning, communication, and perception uncertainties. In addition, the real-time actions of autonomous vehicles (AVs) are demonstrated via the Car Learning to Act (CARLA) simulation platform. Evaluation results show that the proposed DRLACP learns and performs cooperative planning effectively, which outperforms other baseline methods under different scenarios with imperfect AV state information.

CARLA-Air: Fly Drones Inside a CARLA World -- A Unified Infrastructure for Air-Ground Embodied Intelligence

The convergence of low-altitude economies, embodied intelligence, and air-ground cooperative systems creates growing demand for simulation infrastructure capable of jointly modeling aerial and ground agents within a single physically coherent environment. Existing open-source platforms remain domain-segregated: driving simulators lack aerial dynamics, while multirotor simulators lack realistic ground scenes. Bridge-based co-simulation introduces synchronization overhead and cannot guarantee strict spatial-temporal consistency. We present CARLA-Air, an open-source infrastructure that unifies high-fidelity urban driving and physics-accurate multirotor flight within a single Unreal Engine process. The platform preserves both CARLA and AirSim native Python APIs and ROS 2 interfaces, enabling zero-modification code reuse. Within a shared physics tick and rendering pipeline, CARLA-Air delivers photorealistic environments with rule-compliant traffic, socially-aware pedestrians, and aerodynamically consistent UAV dynamics, synchronously capturing up to 18 sensor modalities across all platforms at each tick. The platform supports representative air-ground embodied intelligence workloads spanning cooperation, embodied navigation and vision-language action, multi-modal perception and dataset construction, and reinforcement-learning-based policy training. An extensible asset pipeline allows integration of custom robot platforms into the shared world. By inheriting AirSim's aerial capabilities -- whose upstream development has been archived -- CARLA-Air ensures this widely adopted flight stack continues to evolve within a modern infrastructure. Grasp as You Dream: Imitating Functional Grasping from Generated Human Demonstrations

Building generalist robots capable of performing functional grasping in everyday, open-world environments remains a significant challenge due to the vast diversity of objects and tasks. Existing methods are either constrained to narrow object/task sets or rely on prohibitively large-scale data collection to capture real-world variability. In this work, we present an alternative approach, GraspDreamer, a method that leverages human demonstrations synthesized by visual generative models (VGMs) (e.g., video generation models) to enable zero-shot functional grasping without labor-intensive data collection. The key idea is that VGMs pre-trained on internet-scale human data implicitly encode generalized priors about how humans interact with the physical world, which can be combined with embodiment-specific action optimization to enable functional grasping with minimal effort. Extensive experiments on the public benchmarks with different robot hands demonstrate the superior data efficiency and generalization performance of GraspDreamer compared to previous methods. Real-world evaluations further validate the effectiveness on real robots. Additionally, we showcase that GraspDreamer can (1) be naturally extended to downstream manipulation tasks, and (2) can generate data to support visuomotor policy learning.

MT-PCR: Hybrid Mamba-Transformer Network with Spatial Serialization for Point Cloud Registration

Point cloud registration (PCR) is a fundamental task in 3D computer vision and robotics. Most learning-based PCR methods rely on Transformer architectures, which suffer from quadratic computational complexity. This limitation restricts the resolution of point clouds that can be processed, inevitably leading to information loss. In contrast, Mamba, a recently proposed model based on state-space models, achieves linear computational complexity while maintaining strong long-range contextual modeling capabilities. However, directly applying Mamba to PCR tasks yields suboptimal performance due to the unordered and irregular nature of point cloud data. To address these challenges, we propose MT-PCR, the first point cloud registration framework that integrates Mamba and Transformer modules. Specifically, we serialize point cloud features using Z-order space-filling curves to enforce spatial locality, enabling Mamba to better model the geometric structure of the inputs. Additionally, we remove the order-indicator module commonly used in Mamba-based sequence modeling, leading to improved performance in our setting. The serialized features are then processed by an optimized Mamba encoder, followed by a Transformer-based feature refinement stage. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate that MT-PCR outperforms Transformer-based and other state-of-the-art methods in both accuracy and efficiency, significantly reducing GPU memory usage and FLOPs.

Hierarchical Visual Relocalization with Nearest View Synthesis from Feature Gaussian Splatting

Visual relocalization is a fundamental task in the field of 3D computer vision, estimating a camera's pose when it revisits a previously known scene. While point-based hierarchical relocalization methods have shown strong scalability and efficiency, they are often limited by sparse image observations and weak feature matching. In this work, we propose SplatHLoc, a novel hierarchical visual relocalization framework that uses Feature Gaussian Splatting as the scene representation. To address the sparsity of database images, we propose an adaptive viewpoint retrieval method that synthesizes virtual candidates with viewpoints more closely aligned with the query, thereby improving the accuracy of initial pose estimation. For feature matching, we observe that Gaussian-rendered features and those extracted directly from images exhibit different strengths across the two-stage matching process: the former performs better in the coarse stage, while the latter proves more effective in the fine stage. Therefore, we introduce a hybrid feature matching strategy, enabling more accurate and efficient pose estimation. Extensive experiments on both indoor and outdoor datasets show that SplatHLoc enhances the robustness of visual relocalization, setting a new state-of-the-art.

VG-Mapping: Variation-aware Density Control for Online 3D Gaussian Mapping in Semi-static Scenes

Maintaining an up-to-date map that accurately reflects recent changes in the environment is crucial, especially for robots that repeatedly traverse the same space. Failing to promptly update the changed regions can degrade map quality, resulting in poor localization, inefficient operations, and even lost robots. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has recently seen widespread adoption in online map reconstruction due to its dense, differentiable, and photorealistic properties, yet accurately and efficiently updating the regions of change remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose VG-Mapping, a novel online 3DGS-based mapping system tailored for such semi-static scenes. Our approach introduces a variation-aware density control strategy that decouples Gaussian density regulation from optimization. Specifically, we identify regions with variation to guide initialization and pruning, which avoids the use of stale information in defining the starting point for the subsequent optimization. Furthermore, to address the absence of public benchmarks for this task, we construct a RGB-D dataset comprising both synthetic and real-world semi-static environments. Experimental results demonstrate that our method substantially improves the rendering quality and map update efficiency in semi-static scenes. The code and dataset are available at https://github.com/heyicheng-never/VG-Mapping.

EagleVision: A Dual-Stage Framework with BEV-grounding-based Chain-of-Thought for Spatial Intelligence

Video-based spatial reasoning -- such as estimating distances, judging directions, or understanding layouts from multiple views -- requires selecting informative frames and, when needed, actively seeking additional viewpoints during inference. Existing multimodal large language models (MLLMs) consume a fixed set of uniformly sampled frames and cannot request new views once reasoning begins, often missing the geometric cues necessary for reliable spatial judgments. We present EagleVision, a dual-stage framework that combines geometry-aware frame selection with active, Bird's-Eye-View (BEV)-grounded reasoning. In the first stage (macro perception), a semantics-perspective-fusion determinantal point process (SPF-DPP) selects a compact set of keyframes that jointly maximize semantic relevance and viewpoint diversity under a fixed token budget. In the second stage (micro verification), the model performs iterative spatial Chain-of-Thought: at each step it can either reason in text or predict a pose on the BEV plane to retrieve the nearest real frame, forming a closed-loop hypothesize-look-verify cycle. The querying policy is trained purely via reinforcement learning with a spatial grounding reward, requiring no human-annotated reasoning traces. On VSI-Bench and SQA3D, EagleVision achieves state-of-the-art performance among open-source vision-language models.

IFNSO: Iteration-Free Newton-Schulz Orthogonalization

The Newton-Schulz (NS) iteration has become a key technique for orthogonalization in optimizers such as Muon and for optimization on the Stiefel manifold. Despite its effectiveness, the conventional NS iteration incurs significant computational overhead due to repeated high-dimensional matrix multiplications. To overcome these limitations, we propose Iteration-Free Newton-Schulz Orthogonalization (IFNSO), a novel framework that consolidates the traditional iterative structure into a unified and Iteration-Free formulation. By analyzing the contribution of individual matrix powers, we streamline the process by removing insignificant terms and introducing a polynomial with learnable coefficients. These coefficients are optimized to ensure both superior computational efficiency and stable convergence. Extensive experiments demonstrate that IFNSO achieves superior performance compared to existing methods. Our code is available at: https://github.com/greekinRoma/Unified_Newton_Schulz_Orthogonalization.

Developing Foundation Models for Universal Segmentation from 3D Whole-Body Positron Emission Tomography

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a key nuclear medicine imaging modality that visualizes radiotracer distributions to quantify in vivo physiological and metabolic processes, playing an irreplaceable role in disease management. Despite its clinical importance, the development of deep learning models for quantitative PET image analysis remains severely limited, driven by both the inherent segmentation challenge from PET's paucity of anatomical contrast and the high costs of data acquisition and annotation. To bridge this gap, we develop generalist foundational models for universal segmentation from 3D whole-body PET imaging. We first build the largest and most comprehensive PET dataset to date, comprising 11041 3D whole-body PET scans with 59831 segmentation masks for model development. Based on this dataset, we present SegAnyPET, an innovative foundational model with general-purpose applicability to diverse segmentation tasks. Built on a 3D architecture with a prompt engineering strategy for mask generation, SegAnyPET enables universal and scalable organ and lesion segmentation, supports efficient human correction with minimal effort, and enables a clinical human-in-the-loop workflow. Extensive evaluations on multi-center, multi-tracer, multi-disease datasets demonstrate that SegAnyPET achieves strong zero-shot performance across a wide range of segmentation tasks, highlighting its potential to advance the clinical applications of molecular imaging.

Edge-Assisted Multi-Robot Visual-Inertial SLAM with Efficient Communication

The integration of cloud computing and edge computing is an effective way to achieve global consistent and real-time multi-robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). Cloud computing effectively solves the problem of limited computing, communication and storage capacity of terminal equipment. However, limited bandwidth and extremely long communication links between terminal devices and the cloud result in serious performance degradation of multi-robot SLAM systems. To reduce the computational cost of feature tracking and improve the real-time performance of the robot, a lightweight SLAM method of optical flow tracking based on pyramid IMU prediction is proposed. On this basis, a centralized multi-robot SLAM system based on a robot-edge-cloud layered architecture is proposed to realize real-time collaborative SLAM. It avoids the problems of limited on-board computing resources and low execution efficiency of single robot. In this framework, only the feature points and keyframe descriptors are transmitted and lossless encoding and compression are carried out to realize real-time remote information transmission with limited bandwidth resources. This design reduces the actual bandwidth occupied in the process of data transmission, and does not cause the loss of SLAM accuracy caused by data compression. Through experimental verification on the EuRoC dataset, compared with the current most advanced local feature compression method, our method can achieve lower data volume feature transmission, and compared with the current advanced centralized multi-robot SLAM scheme, it can achieve the same or better positioning accuracy under low computational load.

Origin of anomalous p-type conductivity in monolayer Fe-doped MoS2

Substitutional doping effectively modulates carrier polarity of semiconducting two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) like MoS2. Although Fe doping typically induces n-type conductivity in monolayer MoS2, anomalous p-type behavior has also been experimentally reported, the origin of which remains unresolved. Here, we prove that this anomalous p-type conductivity originates from defect associates formed through interactions between Fe dopants and S atoms, which consists of three Fe substituting Mo (FeMo) point defects arranged into an equilateral triangle with a central S atom, denoted as 3FeMo-S associate. Its p-type effect is directly verified through scanning tunneling microscopy/scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurement, in sharp contrast to the n-type behavior induced by isolated FeMo point defects, and the conclusion is further supported by electrical transport measurements and first-principles calculations. Similar 3FeW-S associates and their p-type doping effect are also identified in monolayer Fe-doped WS2. This work resolves a longstanding controversy and highlights the critical role of defect associates in modulating properties of 2D TMDs.
