Experimental demonstration of response-enhanced fiber Sagnac gyroscopy via imaginary weak-value amplification

We experimentally demonstrate a 100-m long fiber Sagnac gyroscope employing imaginary weak-value amplification (IWVA) to enhance the optical readout response to rotation. A Sagnac-induced polarization phase is converted into a measurable spectral response through polarization post-selection and spectrally resolved detection. By varying the post-selection angle, we characterize the gyroscope response over the experimentally accessible rotation-rate range. The response increases systematically toward orthogonal post-selection, yielding a maximum experimental enhancement of approximately 13 times relative to a fixed reference configuration without postselection. Fast Fourier transform and Allan-deviation measurements further characterize the noise and stability of the gyroscope. Near-orthogonal post-selection reduces the equivalent rotation-rate fluctuations, with the minimum Allan deviation decreasing from $0.06~\mathrm{rad/s}$ for the reference configuration to $0.0091~\mathrm{rad/s}$ for the configuration exhibiting the maximum response enhancement, corresponding to an approximately 6.6-fold reduction. Low-frequency fluctuations of the broadband superluminescent diode source limit the long-term stability. These results demonstrate that IWVA provides a practical approach for response-enhanced fiber-based Sagnac gyroscopy and precision rotation sensing.

Wigner Function Formalism for Zero Magnetic Field Spin Dependent Resonant Tunneling Structures

We develop a Wigner function representation of the quantum transport theory of the conduction band electrons in Rashba effect resonant tunneling structures with a phonon bath. In narrow band gap heterostructures, spin splitting occurs mainly as a result of inversion asymmetry in the spatial dependence of the potential or as a result of external electric field. This "zero magnetic field spin splitting" is due to the Rashba term in the effective mass Hamiltonian. The quantum transport equations are derived using multi-band non-equilibrium Green's function formulation in generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz.

Numerical Simulation of Two Dimensional Electron Transport in a Circularly Symmetric Cylindrical Nanostructure using Wigner Function Methods

We have constructed a lattice Wigner-Weyl code that generalizes the Buot-Jensen algorithm to the calculation of electron transport in two-dimensional circular-cylindrically symmetric structures, where the Wigner function equation is solved self-consistently with the Poisson equation. Almost all of the numerical simulations to date have dealt with the restriction of the problem to one dimensional transport. In real devices, electrons are not confined to a single dimension and the coulombic potential is fully present and felt in three dimensions. We show the derivation of the 2D equation in cylindrical coordinates as well as approximations employed in the calculation of the four-dimensional convolution integral of the Wigner function and the potential. We work under the assumption that longitudinal transport is more dominant than radial transport and employ parallel processing techniques. The total transport is calculated in two steps: (1) transport the particles in the longitudinal direction in each shell separately, then (2) each shell exchanges particles with its nearest neighbor. Most of this work is concerned with the former step: A 1D space and 2D momentum transport problem. Time evolution simulations based on these method are presented for three different cases. Each case lead to numerical results consistent with expectations. Discussions of future improvements are discussed.

Multi-band Wigner Function Formulation of Quantum Transport

A Wigner function representation of multi-band quantum transport theory is developed in this paper. The equations are derived using non-equilibrium Green's function formulation with the generalized Kadanoff-Baym ansatz and the multi-band $\bf{k.p}$ Hamiltonian including spin. The results are applied to a two-band resonant inter-band tunneling structure.
