From Sketch Prior to Trajectories: A Mission-Oriented Coordinated Navigation Framework for Indoor UAV Swarm

UAV swarm for applications, such as indoor inspection, security patrol, and logistics delivery, are often mission-oriented rather than exploration-oriented. In these tasks, UAVs are required to visit task-relevant regions in a prescribed sequence, and such region-level mission information can often be obtained from pre-deployment sketch-map priors, such as floor plans, CAD layouts, or evacuation diagrams. Although these tasks are executed in three-dimensional space, UAVs usually fly within a specific altitude layer or a nearly fixed altitude range on each floor, making mission-level region transitions mainly governed by planar connectivity. Based on these observations, this paper proposes a mission-oriented coordinated navigation framework that exploits sketch-map priors for multi-UAV indoor operations. Onboard observations are used to perform topological alignment, and the aligned prior is fused with online observations to construct a mission-oriented traversability representation. A layered 2D--3D coordinated navigation framework is further developed, where 2D guided path planning generates mission-oriented guide paths and guide-driven 3D trajectory optimization produces dynamically feasible and collision-free trajectories. Simulation and real-world experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework in structured multi-room indoor environments and further demonstrate its coordinated navigation capability under both communication-available and communication-loss conditions. Multi-floor simulation results show the scalability of the system to layered indoor structures.

MIL-LC: A Robust Magnetometer-Inertial-LiDAR Fusion Multimodal Localization Framework

Localization in challenging environments, such as GNSS-denied, geometrically repetitive, or textureless scenes commonly found in offices, hotels, and underground parking facilities, remains an open problem for reliable autonomous mobile robot (AMR) deployment. Single-modality localization methods are inherently limited by the constraints of individual sensors. Although multimodal fusion frameworks have shown improved robustness, most existing approaches still rely heavily on geometric or texture features, or on infrastructure-based beacons, which increase installation and maintenance costs while reducing deployment flexibility. Recently, ambient magnetic field (AMF)-based localization has attracted growing attention because it does not depend on geometric or texture features, nor does it require additional infrastructure, making it a promising complementary modality for AMR localization. However, existing studies have only explored such fusion in pedestrian scenarios using smartphone-mounted sensor suites, and practical solutions for AMR systems remain largely unexplored. To address this gap, this article proposes a magnetometer-inertial-LiDAR fused multimodal localization framework with a custom-designed sensor suite, termed MIL-LC, which provides reliable localization even when LiDAR suffers from geometric degeneration or when the magnetic map changes during long-term deployment. Extensive experiments in both simulation and real-world environments demonstrate that the proposed MIL-LC framework achieves robust and accurate localization performance.

VGGT-Occ: Geometry-Grounded and Density-Aware Gated Fusion for 3D Occupancy Prediction

3D semantic occupancy prediction requires accurate 2D-to-3D feature lifting, yet current methods restrict camera geometry to initial projections. Subsequent operations like offset learning, attention weighting, and cross-camera aggregation remain geometry-agnostic, ignoring essential physical constraints. We propose VGGT-Occ, a framework that embeds geometric tokens throughout the entire pipeline. We introduce Projection-Aware Deformable Attention (PA-DA) to inject geometry into all attention stages. PA-DA projects 3D offsets back to image planes and leverages the projection Jacobian as an additive bias to suppress unreliable observations. Features are then integrated through a view-quality semantic gate for cross-view consistency. To optimize both efficiency and performance, we employ a sequential coarse-to-fine decoder with gated fusion, where low-resolution features are refined into higher resolutions, allocating computation by information density while substantially reducing decoder cost. Extensive evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of our approach. On SurroundOcc-nuScenes, VGGT-Occ achieves 33.00\% IoU and 21.08\% mIoU ($T{=}1$), and 33.64\% IoU and 21.43\% mIoU with $T{=}2$ inference, outperforming existing methods, with only ${\sim}41$M trainable parameters in the occupancy head. Code will be released publicly.

RoSLAC: Robust Simultaneous Localization and Calibration of Multiple Magnetometers

Localization of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in enclosed or semi-enclosed environments such as offices, hotels, hospitals, indoor parking facilities, and underground spaces where GPS signals are weak or unavailable remains a major obstacle to the deployment of fully autonomous systems. Infrastructure-based localization approaches, such as QR codes and RFID, are constrained by high installation and maintenance costs as well as limited flexibility, while onboard sensor-based methods, including LiDAR- and vision-based solutions, are affected by ambiguous geometric features and frequent occlusions caused by dynamic obstacles such as pedestrians. Ambient magnetic field (AMF)-based localization has therefore attracted growing interest in recent years because it does not rely on external infrastructure or geometric features, making it well-suited for AMR applications such as service robots and security robots. However, magnetometer measurements are often corrupted by distortions caused by ferromagnetic materials present on the sensor platform, which bias the AMF and degrade localization reliability. As a result, accurate magnetometer calibration to estimate distortion parameters becomes essential. Conventional calibration methods that rely on rotating the magnetometer are impractical for large and heavy platforms. To address this limitation, this paper proposes a robust simultaneous localization and calibration (RoSLAC) approach based on alternating optimization, which iteratively and efficiently estimates both the platform pose and magnetometer calibration parameters. Extensive evaluations conducted in high-fidelity simulation and real-world environments demonstrate that the proposed RoSLAC method achieves high localization accuracy while maintaining low computational cost compared with state-of-the-art magnetometer calibration techniques.

UniPR-3D: Towards Universal Visual Place Recognition with Visual Geometry Grounded Transformer

Visual Place Recognition (VPR) has been traditionally formulated as a single-image retrieval task. Using multiple views offers clear advantages, yet this setting remains relatively underexplored and existing methods often struggle to generalize across diverse environments. In this work we introduce UniPR-3D, the first VPR architecture that effectively integrates information from multiple views. UniPR-3D builds on a VGGT backbone capable of encoding multi-view 3D representations, which we adapt by designing feature aggregators and fine-tune for the place recognition task. To construct our descriptor, we jointly leverage the 3D tokens and intermediate 2D tokens produced by VGGT. Based on their distinct characteristics, we design dedicated aggregation modules for 2D and 3D features, allowing our descriptor to capture fine-grained texture cues while also reasoning across viewpoints. To further enhance generalization, we incorporate both single- and multi-frame aggregation schemes, along with a variable-length sequence retrieval strategy. Our experiments show that UniPR-3D sets a new state of the art, outperforming both single- and multi-view baselines and highlighting the effectiveness of geometry-grounded tokens for VPR. Our code and models will be made publicly available on Github https://github.com/dtc111111/UniPR-3D.

L2M-Calib: One-key Calibration Method for LiDAR and Multiple Magnetic Sensors

Multimodal sensor fusion enables robust environmental perception by leveraging complementary information from heterogeneous sensing modalities. However, accurate calibration is a critical prerequisite for effective fusion. This paper proposes a novel one-key calibration framework named L2M-Calib for a fused magnetic-LiDAR system, jointly estimating the extrinsic transformation between the two kinds of sensors and the intrinsic distortion parameters of the magnetic sensors. Magnetic sensors capture ambient magnetic field (AMF) patterns, which are invariant to geometry, texture, illumination, and weather, making them suitable for challenging environments. Nonetheless, the integration of magnetic sensing into multimodal systems remains underexplored due to the absence of effective calibration techniques. To address this, we optimize extrinsic parameters using an iterative Gauss-Newton scheme, coupled with the intrinsic calibration as a weighted ridge-regularized total least squares (w-RRTLS) problem, ensuring robustness against measurement noise and ill-conditioned data. Extensive evaluations on both simulated datasets and real-world experiments, including AGV-mounted sensor configurations, demonstrate that our method achieves high calibration accuracy and robustness under various environmental and operational conditions.

Manifold Optics

Transformation optics establishes an equivalence relationship between gradient media and curved space, unveiling intrinsic geometric properties of gradient media. However, this approach based on curved spaces is concentrated on two-dimensional manifolds, namely curved surfaces. In this Letter, we establish an intrinsic connection between three-dimensional manifolds and three-dimensional gradient media in transformation optics by leveraging the Yamabe problem and Ricci scalar curvature, a measure of spatial curvature in manifolds. The invariance of the Ricci scalar under conformal mappings is proven. Our framework is validated through the analysis of representative conformal optical lenses.

UniLGL: Learning Uniform Place Recognition for FOV-limited/Panoramic LiDAR Global Localization

Existing LGL methods typically consider only partial information (e.g., geometric features) from LiDAR observations or are designed for homogeneous LiDAR sensors, overlooking the uniformity in LGL. In this work, a uniform LGL method is proposed, termed UniLGL, which simultaneously achieves spatial and material uniformity, as well as sensor-type uniformity. The key idea of the proposed method is to encode the complete point cloud, which contains both geometric and material information, into a pair of BEV images (i.e., a spatial BEV image and an intensity BEV image). An end-to-end multi-BEV fusion network is designed to extract uniform features, equipping UniLGL with spatial and material uniformity. To ensure robust LGL across heterogeneous LiDAR sensors, a viewpoint invariance hypothesis is introduced, which replaces the conventional translation equivariance assumption commonly used in existing LPR networks and supervises UniLGL to achieve sensor-type uniformity in both global descriptors and local feature representations. Finally, based on the mapping between local features on the 2D BEV image and the point cloud, a robust global pose estimator is derived that determines the global minimum of the global pose on SE(3) without requiring additional registration. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed uniform LGL, extensive benchmarks are conducted in real-world environments, and the results show that the proposed UniLGL is demonstratively competitive compared to other State-of-the-Art LGL methods. Furthermore, UniLGL has been deployed on diverse platforms, including full-size trucks and agile Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs), to enable high-precision localization and mapping as well as multi-MAV collaborative exploration in port and forest environments, demonstrating the applicability of UniLGL in industrial and field scenarios.

MCN-SLAM: Multi-Agent Collaborative Neural SLAM with Hybrid Implicit Neural Scene Representation

Neural implicit scene representations have recently shown promising results in dense visual SLAM. However, existing implicit SLAM algorithms are constrained to single-agent scenarios, and fall difficulties in large-scale scenes and long sequences. Existing NeRF-based multi-agent SLAM frameworks cannot meet the constraints of communication bandwidth. To this end, we propose the first distributed multi-agent collaborative neural SLAM framework with hybrid scene representation, distributed camera tracking, intra-to-inter loop closure, and online distillation for multiple submap fusion. A novel triplane-grid joint scene representation method is proposed to improve scene reconstruction. A novel intra-to-inter loop closure method is designed to achieve local (single-agent) and global (multi-agent) consistency. We also design a novel online distillation method to fuse the information of different submaps to achieve global consistency. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, there is no real-world dataset for NeRF-based/GS-based SLAM that provides both continuous-time trajectories groundtruth and high-accuracy 3D meshes groundtruth. To this end, we propose the first real-world Dense slam (DES) dataset covering both single-agent and multi-agent scenarios, ranging from small rooms to large-scale outdoor scenes, with high-accuracy ground truth for both 3D mesh and continuous-time camera trajectory. This dataset can advance the development of the research in both SLAM, 3D reconstruction, and visual foundation model. Experiments on various datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method in both mapping, tracking, and communication. The dataset and code will open-source on https://github.com/dtc111111/mcnslam.

YOPOv2-Tracker: An End-to-End Agile Tracking and Navigation Framework from Perception to Action

Traditional target tracking pipelines including detection, mapping, navigation, and control are comprehensive but introduce high latency, limitting the agility of quadrotors. On the contrary, we follow the design principle of "less is more", striving to simplify the process while maintaining effectiveness. In this work, we propose an end-to-end agile tracking and navigation framework for quadrotors that directly maps the sensory observations to control commands. Importantly, leveraging the multimodal nature of navigation and detection tasks, our network maintains interpretability by explicitly integrating the independent modules of the traditional pipeline, rather than a crude action regression. In detail, we adopt a set of motion primitives as anchors to cover the searching space regarding the feasible region and potential target. Then we reformulate the trajectory optimization as regression of primitive offsets and associated costs considering the safety, smoothness, and other metrics. For tracking task, the trajectories are expected to approach the target and additional objectness scores are predicted. Subsequently, the predictions, after compensation for the estimated lumped disturbance, are transformed into thrust and attitude as control commands for swift response. During training, we seamlessly integrate traditional motion planning with deep learning by directly back-propagating the gradients of trajectory costs to the network, eliminating the need for expert demonstration in imitation learning and providing more direct guidance than reinforcement learning. Finally, we deploy the algorithm on a compact quadrotor and conduct real-world validations in both forest and building environments to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

IDF-MFL: Infrastructure-free and Drift-free Magnetic Field Localization for Mobile Robot

In recent years, infrastructure-based localization methods have achieved significant progress thanks to their reliable and drift-free localization capability. However, the pre-installed infrastructures suffer from inflexibilities and high maintenance costs. This poses an interesting problem of how to develop a drift-free localization system without using the pre-installed infrastructures. In this paper, an infrastructure-free and drift-free localization system is proposed using the ambient magnetic field (MF) information, namely IDF-MFL. IDF-MFL is infrastructure-free thanks to the high distinctiveness of the ambient MF information produced by inherent ferromagnetic objects in the environment, such as steel and reinforced concrete structures of buildings, and underground pipelines. The MF-based localization problem is defined as a stochastic optimization problem with the consideration of the non-Gaussian heavy-tailed noise introduced by MF measurement outliers (caused by dynamic ferromagnetic objects), and an outlier-robust state estimation algorithm is derived to find the optimal distribution of robot state that makes the expectation of MF matching cost achieves its lower bound. The proposed method is evaluated in multiple scenarios, including experiments on high-fidelity simulation, and real-world environments. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve high-accuracy, reliable, and real-time localization without any pre-installed infrastructures.

CTE-MLO: Continuous-time and Efficient Multi-LiDAR Odometry with Localizability-aware Point Cloud Sampling

In recent years, LiDAR-based localization and mapping methods have achieved significant progress thanks to their reliable and real-time localization capability. Considering single LiDAR odometry often faces hardware failures and degeneracy in practical scenarios, Multi-LiDAR Odometry (MLO), as an emerging technology, is studied to enhance the performance of LiDAR-based localization and mapping systems. However, MLO can suffer from high computational complexity introduced by dense point clouds that are fused from multiple LiDARs, and the continuous-time measurement characteristic is constantly neglected by existing LiDAR odometry. This motivates us to develop a Continuous-Time and Efficient MLO, namely CTE-MLO, which can achieve accurate and real-time estimation using multi-LiDAR measurements through a continuous-time perspective. In this paper, the Gaussian process estimation is naturally combined with the Kalman filter, which enables each LiDAR point in a point stream to query the corresponding continuous-time trajectory using its time instants. A decentralized multi-LiDAR synchronization scheme is also devised to combine points from separate LiDARs into a single point cloud without the primary LiDAR assignment. Moreover, with the aim of improving the real-time performance of MLO without sacrificing robustness, a point cloud sampling strategy is designed with the consideration of localizability. To this end, CTE-MLO integrates synchronization, localizability-aware sampling, continuous-time estimation, and voxel map management within a Kalman filter framework, which can achieve high accuracy and robust continuous-time estimation within only a few linear iterations. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through various scenarios, including public datasets and real-world applications. The code is available at https://github.com/shenhm516/CTE-MLO to benefit the community.

Mutually enhancing light emission between plasmonic nanostructures and fluorescent emitters

We demonstrate that the fluorescent emitters can increase light emission from the plasmonic nanostructures in turn. With the help of atomic force microscopy, a hybrid system consisting of a fluorescent nanodiamond and a gold nanoparticle was assembled step-by-step for in situ optical measurements. We found that the emission from the nanoparticle increased compared with that before coupling. The interaction between plasmonic nanostructures and fluorescent emitter was understood as an entity based on the concept of a quantized optical cavity by considering the nanodiamond and the nanoparticle as a two-level energy system and a nanoresonator, respectively. The theoretical calculations reveal that both the plasmonic coupling effect and the dielectric nanoantenna effect contribute to the enhancement of light emission from the gold nanoparticles.

Directional Enhanced Probe for Side-Illumination Tip Enhanced Spectroscopy

We demonstrate a high-performance apertureless near-field probe made of a tapered metal tip with a set of periodic shallow grooves near the apex. The spontaneous emission from a single emitter near the tip is investigated systematically for the side-illumination tip enhanced spectroscopy (TES). In contrast with the bare tapered metal tip in conventional side-illumination TES, the corrugated probe not only enhances strongly local excitation field but also concentrates the emission directivity, which leads to high collection efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio. In particular, we propose an asymmetric TES tip based on two coupling nanorods with different length at the apex to realize unidirectional enhanced emission rate from a single emitter. Interestingly, we find that the radiation pattern is sensitive to the emission wavelength and the emitter positions respective to the apex, which can result in an increase of signal-to-noise ratio by suppressing undesired signal. The proposed asymmetrical corrugated probe opens up a broad range of practical applications, e.g. increasing the detection efficiency of tip enhanced spectroscopy at the single-molecule level.

Plasmonic nano-resonator enhanced one-photon luminescence from single gold nanorods

Strong Stokes and anti-Stokes one-photon luminescence from single gold nanorods is measured in experiments. It is found that the intensity and polarization of the Stokes and anti-Stokes emissions are in strong correlation. Our experimental observation discovered a coherent process in light emission from single gold nanorods. We present a theoretical mode, based on the concept of cavity resonance, for consistently understanding both Stokes and anti-Stokes photoluminescence. Our theory is in good agreement of all our measurements.
