Electron Orbital Angular Momentum Polarization in Neutral Atoms

We demonstrate the polarization of electron orbital angular momentum (OAM) in neutral atoms by integrating the Zeeman effect with attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (ATAS). Using density matrix simulations, we show that in a helium atom, the absorption probability asymmetry between mj=-1 and mj = 1 in the 1s2p state can be precisely controlled by adjusting the time delay between infrared (IR) and extreme ultraviolet (XUV) fields, the strength of an applied static magnetic field, as well as the angle between laser polarization and magnetic field direction. This approach has significant implications across various fields, including quantum computing, quantum communication, and spintronics. Moreover, it paves the way for advancements in applications such as manipulating chemical reactions control, tailoring the magnetic properties of matter, and enabling novel laser emissions.

Hyper Spectral Resolution Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy with Amplified fs Pulse Bursts

We present a novel approach to achieve hyper spectral resolution, high sensitive detection, and high speed data acquisition Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy by employing amplified offset-phase controlled fs-pulse bursts. In this approach, the Raman-shift spectrum is obtained through the direct mapping between the bursts offset phase and the Raman-shift frequency, which requires neither wavelength-detuning as in the long-pulse method nor precise dispersion management and delay scanning with movable parts as in the spectral focusing technique. This method is demonstrated numerically by solving the coupled non-linear Schroedinger equations and the properties of this approach are systematically investigated. The product of the spectral resolution and the pixel dwell time in this work is below 2 microsiemens/centimeter, which is at least an order of magnitude lower than previous methods. This previously untouched area will greatly expand the applications of SRS and holds the potential for discovering new science.

Laser-Induced Dissociative Recombination of Carbon Dioxide

We experimentally investigate laser-induced dissociative recombination of CO$_2$ in linearly polarized strong laser fields with coincidence measurements. Our results show laser-induced dissociation processes originate from an electron recombination process after laser-induced double ionization. After double ionization of CO$_2$, one electron is recaptured by the CO$_2^{2+}$ and localized to O$^+$ or CO$^+$ in the following dissociation process. We found that the probability of electron localization to O$^{+}$ is much higher than that to CO$^+$. Further, our measurements reveal that the recombination probability of the first ionized electron is three times as high as that of the second ionized electron. Our work may trigger further experimental and theoretical studies on involved nuclear and electron dynamics in laser-induced dissociative recombination of molecules and their applications in controlling molecular dissociation with ultrashort laser pulses.

Pure Even Harmonic Generation from Oriented CO in Linearly Polarized Laser Fields

The first high harmonic spectrum, containing only the odd orders, was observed in experiments 30 years ago (1987). However, a spectrum containing pure even harmonics has never been observed. We investigate the generation of pure even harmonics from oriented CO molecules in linearly polarized laser fields employing the time-dependent density-functional theory. We find that the even harmonics, with no odd orders, are generated with the polarization perpendicular to the laser polarization, when the molecular axis of CO is perpendicular to the laser polarization. Generation of pure even harmonics reveals a type of dipole acceleration originating from the permanent dipole moment. This phenomenon exists in all system with permanent dipole moments, including bulk crystal and polyatomic molecules.
