Ultrafast Framing Imaging utilizing Multiple Optical-parametric-amplification with High Spatial Resolution and Imaging Rate

The discovery and understanding of many ultrafast dynamical processes are often invaluable. This paper is the first report to apply optical parametric amplification to implement single-shot ultrafast imaging with high space and time resolutions. Our setup breaks the constraints usually occurring among the time resolution, frame number, frame interval and spatial resolution in existing single-shot femtosecond imagers, so its performance can be greatly improved by using laser pulses with higher power and shorter time durations. Our setup has provided the highest experimental record of the frame rate and spatial resolution with the temporal resolution of 50 fs simultaneously. It is very powerful for accurate temporal and spatial observations of the ultrafast transient events with a lifetime down to the femtosecond scale, such as atomic or molecular dynamics in photonic material, plasma physics, living cells, and neural activity.

Non-rigid Object Tracking via Deep Multi-scale Spatial-temporal Discriminative Saliency Maps

In this paper, we propose a novel effective non-rigid object tracking framework based on the spatial-temporal consistent saliency detection. In contrast to most existing trackers that utilize a bounding box to specify the tracked target, the proposed framework can extract accurate regions of the target as tracking outputs. It achieves a better description of the non-rigid objects and reduces the background pollution for the tracking model. Furthermore, our model has several unique features. First, a tailored fully convolutional neural network (TFCN) is developed to model the local saliency prior for a given image region, which not only provides the pixel-wise outputs but also integrates the semantic information. Second, a novel multi-scale multi-region mechanism is proposed to generate local saliency maps that effectively consider visual perceptions with different spatial layouts and scale variations. Subsequently, local saliency maps are fused via a weighted entropy method, resulting in a final discriminative saliency map. Finally, we present a non-rigid object tracking algorithm based on the predicted saliency maps. By utilizing a spatial-temporal consistent saliency map (STCSM), we conduct target-background classification and use a simple fine-tuning scheme for online updating. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves competitive performance in both saliency detection and visual tracking, especially outperforming other related trackers on the non-rigid object tracking datasets.

Text-based Passwords Generated From Topological Graphic Passwords

Topological graphic passwords (Topsnut-gpws) are one of graph-type passwords, but differ from the existing graphical passwords, since Topsnut-gpws are saved in computer by algebraic matrices. We focus on the transformation between text-based passwords (TB-paws) and Topsnut-gpws in this article. Several methods for generating TB-paws from Topsnut-gpws are introduced; these methods are based on topological structures and graph coloring/labellings, such that authentications must have two steps: one is topological structure authentication, and another is text-based authentication. Four basic topological structure authentications are introduced and many text-based authentications follow Topsnut-gpws. Our methods are based on algebraic, number theory and graph theory, many of them can be transformed into polynomial algorithms. A new type of matrices for describing Topsnut-gpws is created here, and such matrices can produce TB-paws in complex forms and longer bytes. Estimating the space of TB-paws made by Topsnut-gpws is very important for application. We propose to encrypt dynamic networks and try to face: (1) thousands of nodes and links of dynamic networks; (2) large numbers of Topsnut-gpws generated by machines rather than human's hands. As a try, we apply spanning trees of dynamic networks and graphic groups (Topsnut-groups) to approximate the solutions of these two problems. We present some unknown problems in the end of the article for further research.

Gapped Boundary Theory of the Twisted Gauge Theory Model of Three-Dimensional Topological Orders

We extend the twisted gauge theory model of topological orders in three spatial dimensions to the case where the three spaces have two dimensional boundaries. We achieve this by systematically constructing the boundary Hamiltonians that are compatible with the bulk Hamoltonian. Given the bulk Hamiltonian defined by a gauge group $G$ and a four-cocycle $ω$ in the fourth cohomology group of $G$ over $U(1)$, a boundary Hamiltonian can be defined by a subgroup $K$ of $G$ and a three-cochain $α$ in the third cochain group of $K$ over $U(1)$. The boundary Hamiltonian to be constructed must be gapped and invariant under the topological renormalization group flow (via Pachner moves), leading to a generalized Frobenius condition. Given $K$, a solution to the generalized Frobenius condition specifies a gapped boundary condition. We derive a closed-form formula of the ground state degeneracy of the model on a three-cylinder, which can be naturally generalized to three-spaces with more boundaries. We also derive the explicit ground-state wavefunction of the model on a three-ball. The ground state degeneracy and ground-state wavefunction are both presented solely in terms of the input data of the model, namely, $\{G,ω,K,α\}$.

Symplectic Parabolicity and L^2 Symplectic Harmonic Forms

In this paper, we study the symplectic cohomologies and symplectic harmonic forms which introduced by Tseng and Yau. Based on this, we get if $(M^{2n},ω)$ is a compact symplectic parabolic manifold which satisfies the hard Lefschetz property, then its Euler number satisfies the inequality $(-1)^nχ(M)\geq 0$.

ChestNet: A Deep Neural Network for Classification of Thoracic Diseases on Chest Radiography

Computer-aided techniques may lead to more accurate and more acces-sible diagnosis of thorax diseases on chest radiography. Despite the success of deep learning-based solutions, this task remains a major challenge in smart healthcare, since it is intrinsically a weakly supervised learning problem. In this paper, we incorporate the attention mechanism into a deep convolutional neural network, and thus propose the ChestNet model to address effective diagnosis of thorax diseases on chest radiography. This model consists of two branches: a classification branch serves as a uniform feature extraction-classification network to free users from troublesome handcrafted feature extraction, and an attention branch exploits the correlation between class labels and the locations of patholog-ical abnormalities and allows the model to concentrate adaptively on the patholog-ically abnormal regions. We evaluated our model against three state-of-the-art deep learning models on the Chest X-ray 14 dataset using the official patient-wise split. The results indicate that our model outperforms other methods, which use no extra training data, in diagnosing 14 thorax diseases on chest radiography.

Graph Theory Towards New Graphical Passwords In Information Networks

Graphical passwords (GPWs) have been studied over 20 years. We are motivated from QR codes that can be considered GPWs, are successfully applied in today's world. However, one need such GPWs that can be use conveniently and have higher level security in information networks. We aim to GPWs for mobile devices with touch screen. No more researching papers of GPWs by means of techniques of graph theory that are already used in a wide range of scientific areas, especially, dynamic networks. Our investigation is devoted to designing new type of graphical passwords by methods of graph theory, such as various topological structures and colorings (labellings). We develop the idea of "topological structure plus number theory" in maximal planar graphs, and provide new techniques for designing new type of GPWs, and furthermore we do theoretical analysis on these new type of GPWs.

Video Person Re-identification by Temporal Residual Learning

In this paper, we propose a novel feature learning framework for video person re-identification (re-ID). The proposed framework largely aims to exploit the adequate temporal information of video sequences and tackle the poor spatial alignment of moving pedestrians. More specifically, for exploiting the temporal information, we design a temporal residual learning (TRL) module to simultaneously extract the generic and specific features of consecutive frames. The TRL module is equipped with two bi-directional LSTM (BiLSTM), which are respectively responsible to describe a moving person in different aspects, providing complementary information for better feature representations. To deal with the poor spatial alignment in video re-ID datasets, we propose a spatial-temporal transformer network (ST^2N) module. Transformation parameters in the ST^2N module are learned by leveraging the high-level semantic information of the current frame as well as the temporal context knowledge from other frames. The proposed ST^2N module with less learnable parameters allows effective person alignments under significant appearance changes. Extensive experimental results on the large-scale MARS, PRID2011, ILIDS-VID and SDU-VID datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves consistently superior performance and outperforms most of the very recent state-of-the-art methods.

Amulet: Aggregating Multi-level Convolutional Features for Salient Object Detection

Fully convolutional neural networks (FCNs) have shown outstanding performance in many dense labeling problems. One key pillar of these successes is mining relevant information from features in convolutional layers. However, how to better aggregate multi-level convolutional feature maps for salient object detection is underexplored. In this work, we present Amulet, a generic aggregating multi-level convolutional feature framework for salient object detection. Our framework first integrates multi-level feature maps into multiple resolutions, which simultaneously incorporate coarse semantics and fine details. Then it adaptively learns to combine these feature maps at each resolution and predict saliency maps with the combined features. Finally, the predicted results are efficiently fused to generate the final saliency map. In addition, to achieve accurate boundary inference and semantic enhancement, edge-aware feature maps in low-level layers and the predicted results of low resolution features are recursively embedded into the learning framework. By aggregating multi-level convolutional features in this efficient and flexible manner, the proposed saliency model provides accurate salient object labeling. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our method performs favorably against state-of-the art approaches in terms of near all compared evaluation metrics.

Learning Uncertain Convolutional Features for Accurate Saliency Detection

Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have delivered superior performance in many computer vision tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel deep fully convolutional network model for accurate salient object detection. The key contribution of this work is to learn deep uncertain convolutional features (UCF), which encourage the robustness and accuracy of saliency detection. We achieve this via introducing a reformulated dropout (R-dropout) after specific convolutional layers to construct an uncertain ensemble of internal feature units. In addition, we propose an effective hybrid upsampling method to reduce the checkerboard artifacts of deconvolution operators in our decoder network. The proposed methods can also be applied to other deep convolutional networks. Compared with existing saliency detection methods, the proposed UCF model is able to incorporate uncertainties for more accurate object boundary inference. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed saliency model performs favorably against state-of-the-art approaches. The uncertain feature learning mechanism as well as the upsampling method can significantly improve performance on other pixel-wise vision tasks.

Linear simulation of ion temperature gradient driven instabilities in W7-X and LHD stellarators using GTC

The global gyrokinetic toroidal code (GTC) has been recently upgraded to do simulations in non-axisymmetric equilibrium configuration, such as stellarators. Linear simulation of ion temperature gradient (ITG) driven instabilities has been done in Wendelstein7-X (W7-X) and Large Helical Device (LHD) stellarators using GTC. Several results are discussed to study characteristics of ITG in stellarators, including toroidal grids convergence, nmodes number convergence, poloidal and parallel spectrums, and electrostatic potential mode structure on flux surface.

End-to-End Image Super-Resolution via Deep and Shallow Convolutional Networks

One impressive advantage of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is their ability to automatically learn feature representation from raw pixels, eliminating the need for hand-designed procedures. However, recent methods for single image super-resolution (SR) fail to maintain this advantage. They utilize CNNs in two decoupled steps, i.e., first upsampling the low resolution (LR) image to the high resolution (HR) size with hand-designed techniques (e.g., bicubic interpolation), and then applying CNNs on the upsampled LR image to reconstruct HR results. In this paper, we seek an alternative and propose a new image SR method, which jointly learns the feature extraction, upsampling and HR reconstruction modules, yielding a completely end-to-end trainable deep CNN. As opposed to existing approaches, the proposed method conducts upsampling in the latent feature space with filters that are optimized for the task of image SR. In addition, the HR reconstruction is performed in a multi-scale manner to simultaneously incorporate both short- and long-range contextual information, ensuring more accurate restoration of HR images. To facilitate network training, a new training approach is designed, which jointly trains the proposed deep network with a relatively shallow network, leading to faster convergence and more superior performance. The proposed method is extensively evaluated on widely adopted data sets and improves the performance of state-of-the-art methods with a considerable margin. Moreover, in-depth ablation studies are conducted to verify the contribution of different network designs to image SR, providing additional insights for future research.

Improper Graceful and Odd-graceful Labellings of Graph Theory

In this paper we define some new labellings for trees, called the in-improper and out-improper odd-graceful labellings such that some trees labelled with the new labellings can induce graceful graphs having at least a cycle. We, next, apply the new labellings to construct large scale of graphs having improper graceful/odd-graceful labellings or having graceful/odd-graceful labellings.

In this configuration, two pairs of electrodes are arranged oppositely, and the discharging is perpendicularly driven by two rf sources. With Particle-in-cell/Monte Carlo method, we have demonstrated this configuration can remove the harmful electromagnetic and DF coupling effects in conventional DF-CCP.
