Potassium ground state scattering parameters and Born-Oppenheimer potentials from molecular spectroscopy

We present precision measurements with MHz uncertainty of the energy gap between asymptotic and well bound levels in the electronic ground state X $^1Σ_{\mathrm{g}}^+$ of the $^{39}$K$_2$ molecule. The molecules are prepared in a highly collimated particle beam and are interrogated in a $Λ$-type excitation scheme of optical transitions to long range levels close to the asymptote of the ground state, using the electronically excited state A $^1Σ^+_{\rm u}$ as intermediate one. The transition frequencies are measured either by comparison with I$_2$ lines or by absolute measurements using a fs-frequency comb. The determined level energies were used together with Feshbach resonances from cold collisions of $^{39}$K and $^{40}$K reported from other authors to fit new ground state potentials. Precise scattering lengths are determined and tests of the validity of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation for the description of cold collisions at this level of precision are performed.

The X$^1Σ^+$ and a$^3Σ^+$ states of LiCs studied by Fourier-transform spectroscopy

We present the first high-resolution spectroscopic study of LiCs. LiCs is formed in a heat pipe oven and studied via laser-induced fluorescence Fourier-transform spectroscopy. By exciting molecules through the X$^1Σ^+$-B$^1Π$ and X$^1Σ^+$-D$^1Π$ transitions vibrational levels of the X$^1Σ^+$ ground state have been observed up to 3cm^{-1} below the dissociation limit enabling an accurate construction of the potential. Furthermore, rovibrational levels in the a$^3Σ^+$ triplet ground state have been observed because the excited states obtain sufficient triplet character at the corresponding excited atomic asymptote. With the help of coupled channels calculations accurate singlet and triplet ground state potentials were derived reaching the atomic ground state asymptote and allowing first predictions of cold collision properties of Li + Cs pairs.
