Calculation of mixed Hodge structures, Gauss-Manin connections and Picard-Fuchs equations

In this article we introduce algorithms which compute iterations of Gauss-Manin connections, Picard-Fuchs equations of Abelian integrals and mixed Hodge structure of affine varieties of dimension $n$ in terms of differential forms. In the case $n=1$ such computations have many applications in differential equations and counting their limit cycles. For $n>3$, these computations give us an explicit definition of Hodge cycles.

Abelian integrals in holomorphic foliations

The aim of this paper is to introduce the theory of Abelian integrals for holomorphic foliations in a complex manifold of dimension two. We will show the importance of Picard-Lefschetz theory and the classification of relatively exact 1-forms in this theory. As an application we identify some irreducible components of the space of holomorphic foliations of a fixed degree and with a center singularity in the projective space of dimension two. Also we calculate higher Melnikov functions under some generic conditions.

Center conditions: Rigidity of logarithmic differential equations

In this paper we prove that any degree $d$ deformation of a generic logarithmic polynomial differential equation with a persistent center must be logarithmic again. This is a generalization of Ilyashenko's result on Hamiltonian differential equations. The main tools are Picard-Lefschetz theory of a polynomial with complex coefficients in two variables, specially the Gusein-Zade/A'Campo's theorem on calculating the Dynkin diagram of the polynomial, and the action of Gauss-Manin connection on the so called Brieskorn lattice/Petrov module of the polynomial. Some applications on the cyclicity of cycles and the Bautin ideals will be given.

Neighborhoods of Analytic Varieties in Complex Manifolds

The systematic study of neighborhoods of analytic varieties was started by H. Grauert in his celebrated article 1962. In that article he considers a manifold X and a negatively embedded submanifold A subset X. He introduces n-neighborhood, n in N, of A and studies when an isomorphism of two n-neighborhoods can be extended to an isomorphism of (n+1)-neighborhoods. He observes that obstructions to this extension problem lie in the first cohomology group of certain sheaves involving the normal bundle of A in X. Using a version of Kodaira vanishing theorem he shows that for a large n these cohomology groups vanish and so he concludes that the germ of a negatively embedded manifold A depends only on a finite neighborhood of it. These methods are generalized to a germ of an arbitrary negatively embedded divisor A by Hironaka, Rossi and Laufer. In the case where A is a Riemann surface embedded in a two dimensional manifold, by using Serre duality we can say exactly which finite neighborhood of A determines the embedding. This isa first draft of an expository article about negatively embedded varieties. The text is mainly based on Grauert's paper, but we have used also the contributions of subsequent authors; for instance the Artin's criterion on the existence of convergent solutions is used instead of Grauert's geometrical methods. Our principal aim is to extend this study to the germ of foliated neighborhoods and singularities. In the first steps we will consider the most simple foliations which are transversal foliations. Next, foliations with tangencies and Poincare type singularities will be considered.

On the Topology of Foliations with a First Integral

The main objective of this article is to study the topology of the fibers of a generic rational function of the type $F^p/G^q$ in the projective space of dimension two. We will prove that the action of the monodromy group on a single Lefschetz vanishing cycle $δ$ generates the first homology group of a generic fiber of $F^p/G^q$. In particular, we will prove that for any two Lefschetz vanishing cycles $δ_0$ and $δ_1$ in a regular compact fiber of $F^p/G^q$, there exists a monodromy $h$ such that $h(δ_0)=\pm δ_1$.
