Testing the Swampland: $H_0$ tension

The de Sitter Swampland conjecture compels us to consider dark energy models where $λ(ϕ) \equiv |\nabla_ϕ V|/V$ is bounded below by a positive constant. Moreover, it has been argued for Quintessence models that the constant $λ$ scenario is the least constrained. Here we demonstrate that increasing $λ$ only exacerbates existing tension in the Hubble constant $H_0$. The identification of dark energy models that both evade observational bounds and alleviate $H_0$ tension constitutes a robust test for the Swampland program.

de Sitter Swampland, $H_0$ tension & observation

Realising de Sitter vacua in string theory is challenging. For this reason it has been conjectured that de Sitter vacua inhabit the Swampland of inconsistent low-energy effective theories coupled to gravity. Since de Sitter is an attractor for $Λ$CDM, the conjecture calls $Λ$CDM into question. Reality appears sympathetic to this idea as local measurements of the Hubble constant $H_0$ are also at odds with $Λ$CDM analysis of Planck data. This tension suggests that the de Sitter state is unstable, thereby implying a turning point in the Hubble parameter. We present a model relieving this tension, which predicts a turning at small positive redshift $z_*$ that is dictated by present-day matter density $ω_m$. This feature is easily identified by homogeneous surveys covering redshifts $z \leq 0.1$. We comment on the implications for the Swampland program.

Holographic integration of $T \bar{T}$ and $J \bar{T}$ via $O(d,d)$

Prompted by the recent developments in integrable single trace $T \bar{T}$ and $J \bar{T}$ deformations of 2d CFTs, we analyse such deformations in the context of $AdS_3/CFT_2$ from the dual string worldsheet CFT viewpoint. We observe that the finite form of these deformations can be recast as $O(d,d)$ transformations, which are an integrated form of the corresponding Exactly Marginal Deformations (EMD) in the worldsheet Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) model, thereby generalising the Yang-Baxter class that includes TsT. Furthermore, the equivalence between $O(d,d)$ transformations and marginal deformations of WZW models, proposed by Hassan and Sen for Abelian chiral currents, can be extended to non-Abelian chiral currents to recover a well-known constraint on EMD in the worldsheet CFT. We also argue that such EMD are also solvable from the worldsheet theory viewpoint.

Embedding the modified CYBE in Supergravity

It has recently been demonstrated that the Classical Yang-Baxter Equation (CYBE) emerges from supergravity via the open-closed string map. Thus, given any solution with an isometry group, there exists a deformed solution based on an $r$-matrix solution to the homogeneous CYBE. In this work, we argue that the CYBE emerges exclusively from the NS sector, while the RR sector acts largely as a spectator that supports the spacetimes. Moreover, shifting the dilaton by a constant, one can incorporate $r$-matrix solutions to the modified CYBE, but only for original geometries that are a direct-product of coset spaces. We illustrate our solution generating technique with deformations of $AdS_3 \times S^3 \times M_4$, where $M_4 = T^4$ (K3) and $S^3 \times S^1$, and explicitly construct one and two-parameter (integrable) q-deformations that are solutions to generalised supergravity.

Conformally Lifshitz solutions from Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

We show that the IR action of the healthy non-projectable Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity and its small modification exhibit asymptotically Lifshitz and hyperscaling violating solutions, respectively. The model may also have an AdS$_2\times R^d$ vacuum solution. By making use of our results, one may wonder that within the context of HL gravity the Lifshitz fixed point might be treated as a CFT deformed by the time component of a vector operator.

Warped Ricci-flat reductions

We present a simple class of warped-product vacuum (Ricci-flat) solutions to ten and eleven-dimensional supergravity, where the internal space is flat and the warp factor supports de Sitter (dS) and anti-de Sitter (AdS) vacua in addition to trivial Minkowski vacua. We outline the construction of consistent Kaluza-Klein (KK) reductions and show that, although our vacuum solutions are non-supersymmetric, these are closely related to the bosonic part of well-known maximally supersymmetric reductions on spheres. We comment on the stability of our solutions, noting that (A)dS$_3$ vacua pass routine stability tests.

On Quantization of AdS3 Gravity I: Semi-Classical Analysis

In this work we explore ideas in quantizing AdS$_3$ Einstein gravity. We start with the most general solution to the 3d gravity theory which respects Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions. These solutions are specified by two holomorphic functions and satisfy simple superposition rule. These geometries generically have a bifurcate Killing horizon (with a noncompact bifurcation curve) which is not an event horizon and are hence not black holes. Nonetheless, there are superpositions of these geometries which have event horizon. We propose to view these geometries as "semiclassical fuzzball microstates" of BTZ black holes appearing as superposition of these geometries. The details of quantization of these semiclassical microstates will be discussed in an upcoming work.

Extremal Black Holes and First Law of Thermodynamics

We study the low temperature expansion of the first law of thermodynamics for near-extremal black holes. We show that for extremal black holes with non-vanishing entropy, the leading order contribution yields an expression for their extremal entropy in agreement with the entropy function result and the Cardy formula for the entropy of a two dimensional chiral conformal field theory (CFT). When their entropy vanishes due to the vanishing of a one-cycle on the horizon, such leading contribution is always compatible with the first law satisfied by a BTZ black hole. These results are universal and consistent both with the presence of local AdS2 and AdS3 near horizon throats for extremal black holes and with the suggested quantum microscopic descriptions (AdS2/CFT1, Kerr/CFT and EVH/CFT).

Near-Extremal Vanishing Horizon AdS5 Black Holes and Their CFT Duals

We consider families of charged rotating asymptotically AdS5 Extremal black holes with Vanishing Horizon (EVH black holes) whose near horizon geometries develop locally AdS3 throats. Using the AdS3/CFT2 duality, we propose an EVH/CFT2 correspondence to describe the near-horizon low energy IR dynamics of near-EVH black holes involving a specific large N limit of the 4d N = 4 SYM. We give a map between the UV and IR near-EVH excitations, showing that the UV first law of thermodynamics reduces to the IR first law satisfied by the near horizon BTZ black holes in this near-EVH limit. We also discuss the connection between our EVH/CFT proposal and the Kerr/CFT correspondence in the cases where the two overlap.

Charged Black Branes with Hyperscaling Violating Factor

We present an analytic solution of a charged black hole with hyperscaling violating factor in an Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton model where the scalar potential is key to the existence of a solution. This solution provides a candidate gravitational description of theories with hyperscaling violation at both finite temperature and finite charge density. Using this background we explore certain features of these theories via AdS/CFT correspondence. Finally, we discuss embeddings based on the well-known sphere reductions of ten and eleven-dimensional supergravity.

EVH Black Hole Solutions With Higher Derivative Corrections

We analyze the effect of higher derivative corrections to the near horizon geometry of the extremal vanishing horizon (EVH) black hole solutions in four dimensions. We restrict ourselves to the Gauss-Bonnet correction with a dilation dependent coupling in an Einstein Maxwell dilaton theory. This action may represent the effective action as it arises in tree level heterotic string theory compactified to four dimensions or the K3 compactification of type II string theory. We show that EVH black holes, in this theory, develop an AdS3 throat in their near horizon geometry.

Five-dimensional heterotic black holes and its dual IR-CFT

We analyze the possible dynamical emergence of IR conformal field theory describing the low- energy excitations of near-extremal black holes in five-dimensional compactification of heterotic strings. We find that, by tuning the mass and charges in such a way that the extremal black holes have a classically vanishing horizon area, the near-horizon develops an AdS3 throat and when we combine the low-energy limit with vanishing Newton coupling constant, the system has a dual conformal field theory description. We compare our results with c-extremization and the Kerr/CFT predictions.

On EVH black hole solution in Heterotic string theory

We study the near horizon geometry of charged rotating black holes in toroidal compactifications of heterotic string theory. We analyze the extremal vanishing horizon (EVH) limit for these black hole solu- tions and we will show that the near horizon geometry develops an AdS3 throat. Furthermore, we will show that the near horizon limit of near EVH black holes has a BTZ factor. We also comment on the CFT dual to this near horizon geometry.

On Holography with Hyperscaling Violation

We study certain features of strongly coupled theories with hyperscaling violation by making use of their gravitational duals. We will consider models with an anisotropic scaling in time or in one of spatial directions. In particular for the case where the anisotropic scaling is along a spatial direction we will compute the holographic entanglement entropy and show that for specific values of the parameters it exhibits a logarithmic violation of the area law. We will also probe the backgrounds by different closed and open strings which in turn can be used to read, for example, effective potential of an external object, drag force and etc.

Fermionic T-duality in the pp-wave limit

AdS5 X S5 and its pp-wave limit are self-dual under transformations involving eight fermionic T-dualities, a property which accounts for symmetries seen in scattering amplitudes in N=4 super-Yang-Mills. Despite strong evidence for similar symmetries in the amplitudes of three-dimensional N=6 ABJM theory, a corresponding self-duality in the dual geometry AdS4 X CP3 currently eludes us. Here, working with the type IIA pp-wave limit of AdS4 X CP3 preserving twenty four supercharges, we show that the pp-wave is self-dual with respect to eight commuting fermionic T-dualities and not the six expected. In addition, we show the same symmetry can be found in a superposition pp-wave and a generic pp-wave with twenty and sixteen unbroken supersymmetries respectively, strongly suggesting that self-duality under fermionic T-duality may be a symmetry of all pp-waves.

EVH Black Holes, AdS3 Throats and EVH/CFT Proposal

Within class of generic black holes there are extremal black holes (with vanishing Hawking temperature T) and vanishing horizon area Ah, but with finite Ah/T ratio, the Extremal Vanishing Horizon (EVH) black holes. We study the near horizon limit of a four dimensional EVH black hole solution to a generic (gauged) Einstein-Maxwell dilaton theory and show that in the near horizon limit they develop a throat which is a pinching orbifold limit of AdS3. This is an extension of the well known result for extremal black holes the near horizon limit of which contains an AdS2 throat. We show that in the near EVH near horizon limit the pinching AdS3 factor turns to a pinching BTZ black hole and that this near horizon limit is indeed a decoupling limit. We argue that the pinching AdS3 or BTZ orbifold is resolved if the near horizon limit is accompanied by taking the 4d Newton constant G4 to zero such that the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy S = Ah/(4G4) remains finite. We propose that in this limit the near horizon EVH black hole is dual to a 2d CFT. We provide pieces of evidence in support of the EVH/CFT correspondence and comment on its connection to the Kerr/CFT proposal and speculations how the EVH/CFT may be used to study generic e.g. Schwarzchild-type black holes.

On the generality of the LLM geometries in M-theory

In this note we revisit the Lin, Lunin, Maldacena (LLM) class of d=11 supergravity solutions with symmetry SO(6) X SO(3) X R, but generalise to allow for all fluxes consistent with the isometries. Using the Killing spinor equation, we prove there are no supersymmetric geometries with additional fluxes beyond the LLM ansatz. In addition, the LLM relationship between Killing spinors, ε_- = - γ_5 ε_+, may be seen as a consequence of identifying two Killing directions identified through the Killing spinor equation corresponding to candidate R-symmetry directions.

Supersymmetric AdS3 X S2 M-theory geometries with fluxes

Motivated by a recent observation that the LLM geometries admit 1/4-BPS M5-brane probes with worldvolume AdS3 X Σ_2 X S1 preserving the R-symmetry, we initiate a classification of the most general AdS3 X S2 geometries in M-theory. We retain all field strengths consistent with symmetry and derive the torsion conditions for M_6 in terms of two linearly independent spinors. Surprisingly, we identify three Killing directions for M_6, but only two of these generate isometries of the overall ansatz. We show that the existence of this third direction depends on the norm of the spinors. Then, specialising to the case where the spinors define an SU(2)-structure and the class of solutions is 1/4-BPS, we note that supersymmetry dictates that all magnetic fluxes necessarily thread the S2. Finally, by assuming that the two remaining Killing directions are parallel and aligned with one of the two vectors defining the SU(2)-structure, we derive a general relationship for the two spinors before extracting a known class of solutions from the torsion conditions.
