Spectral Rigidity of Commutators: Dynamics, Resonance, and Nilpotency

Let $A, T \in M_n(\mathbb{C})$ and let $Δ_A(T) = AT - TA$ denote the inner derivation induced by $A$. We determine when $T$ and $Δ_A(T)$ are nilpotent under the second-order relation $$ Δ_A^2(T) + α\, Δ_A(T) + β\, T = 0, \qquad α, β\in \mathbb{R}, $$ according to the location of the roots of $z^2 + αz + β$. If the roots have nonzero real parts of the same sign, then both $T$ and $Δ_A(T)$ are nilpotent. If the roots are purely imaginary and nonzero, no nilpotency conclusion holds in general, whereas if one root is zero and the other is nonzero, $Δ_A(T)$ is nilpotent but $T$ need not be. The double zero root gives the Kleinecke--Shirokov theorem. For real roots of opposite signs, the answer is governed by an arithmetic threshold: writing $z_1/z_2=-p/q$ in lowest terms, every solution is nilpotent when $p+q>n$, while for $p+q\le n$ an explicit cyclic construction yields solutions for which both $T$ and $Δ_A(T)$ are invertible. Finally, for a relation $$ \sum_{k=0}^{m} c_k\,Δ_A^k(T)=0 $$ of arbitrary order, every iterated commutator $Δ_A^j(T)$ is nilpotent whenever the roots of the associated polynomial lie in an open half-plane whose boundary passes through the origin.

On the $ρ$-numerical radius of rank-one operators and parametrized Buzano-type inequalities

Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a complex Hilbert space and $ρ>0$. We establish the explicit formula \[ ω_ρ(a\otimes b)=\frac{1}ρ\|a\| \|b\|+\left|1-\frac{1}ρ\right||\langle a,b\rangle|,\qquad a,b\in\mathcal{H}, \] for the $ρ$-numerical radius of rank-one operators, a unified expression interpolating between the operator norm, the numerical radius, and the spectral radius, which correspond to $ρ=1,2$, and $ρ\to\infty$, respectively. As an application, we derive a parametrized family of Buzano-type inequalities for four vectors. We extract from it an explicit closed-form bound and, under a reality condition which is automatically satisfied in real Hilbert spaces, we determine the best bound in the family in closed form. Examples show that the resulting bounds can be strictly sharper than both the Cauchy--Schwarz and the Buzano inequality, and the classical Buzano inequality is recovered as a boundary case, which yields an alternative proof of it.

On the ascent and the angle between the null space and the range of elementary operators

We study the angle between the null space and the range of elementary operators of length one or two acting on $\mathcal{B}(\mathscr{X})$, the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Banach space $\mathscr{X}$. For the multiplication operator $μ_{A,B}(X) = AXB$, we characterize positivity of this angle in terms of the corresponding angles for $A$ and $B^*$. For elementary operators of length two $Δ_{\boldsymbol{A},\boldsymbol{B}} = μ_{A_1,B_1} - μ_{A_2,B_2}$, we establish conditions under which the angle is positive, and the ascent of $Δ_{\boldsymbol{A},\boldsymbol{B}}$ equals one. Finally, for a generalized derivation $δ_{A,B}$ and an injective holomorphic function $f$ on a neighborhood of $σ(A)\cupσ(B)$, we show that the angle between the null space and the range of $δ_{f(A),f(B)}$ is positive whenever the angle between the null space and the range of $δ_{A,B}$ is positive.

Structural Properties and Normality Criteria for Subclasses of Normaloid Operators

We investigate structural properties and normality criteria for certain classes of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. We show that an operator $T$ with polar decomposition $T = U|T|$ is self-adjoint if and only if $T$ is absolute-$(p,r)$-paranormal and the partial isometry $U$ is self-adjoint. Extending Ando's Theorem, we prove that if $T$ is absolute-$(p,r)$-paranormal and $T^n$ is normal for some $n \in \mathbb{N}$, then $T$ itself is normal. We further show that if $T$ is absolute-$(p,r)$-paranormal and $T^2$ is compact, then $T$ is a compact normal operator. Finally, we obtain several characterizations of quasinormal partial isometries within the normaloid hierarchy.

On roots of normal operators and extensions of Ando's Theorem

In this paper, we extend Ando's theorem on paranormal operators, which states that if $ T \in \mathfrak{B}(\mathcal{H}) $ is a paranormal operator and there exists $ n \in \mathbb{N} $ such that $ T^n $ is normal, then $ T $ is normal. We generalize this result to the broader classes of $ k $-paranormal operators and absolute-$ k $-paranormal operators. Furthermore, in the case of a separable Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, we show that if $ T \in \mathfrak{B}(\mathcal{H}) $ is a $ k $-quasi-paranormal operator for some $ k \in \mathbb{N} $, and there exists $ n \in \mathbb{N} $ such that $ T^n $ is normal, then $ T $ decomposes as $ T = T' \oplus T'' $, where $ T' $ is normal and $ T'' $ is nilpotent of nil-index at most $ \min\{n,k+1\} $, with either summand potentially absent.

On inequalities involving the spherical operator transforms

This paper explores refinements of some operator norm inequalities through the generalized spherical Aluthge transform and the spherical Heinz transform. We introduce the spherical Schatten $p$-norm for operator tuples and establish several related inequalities. Additionally, equality conditions for some of these inequalities are also presented. Furthermore, we define the (joint) Schatten $p$-numerical radius and the Schatten hypo-$p$-norm for operator tuples, deriving some fundamental inequalities in this setting.

Spherically quasinormal tuples: $n$-th root problem and hereditary properties

In this paper, we provide several characterizations of a spherically quasinormal tuple $\mathbf{T}$ in terms of its normal extension, as well as in terms of powers of the associated elementary operator $Θ_{\mathbf{T}}(I)$. Utilizing these results, we establish that the powers of spherically quasinormal tuples remain spherically quasinormal. Additionally, we prove that the subnormal $n$-roots of spherically quasinormal tuples must also be spherically quasinormal, thereby resolving a multivariable version of a previously posed problem by Curto et al. in [17]. Furthermore, we investigate the connection between a (pure) spherically quasinormal tuple $\mathbf{T}$, its minimal normal extension $\mathbf{N}$, and its dual $\mathbf{S}$. Among other things, we show that $\mathbf{T}$ inherits the spherical polar decomposition from $\mathbf{N}$. Finally, we also demonstrate that $\mathbf{N}$ is Taylor invertible if and only if $\mathbf{T}$ and $\mathbf{S}$ have closed ranges.

Characterizations of positive operators via their powers

In this paper, we present new characterizations of normal and positive operators in terms of their powers. Among other things, we show that if $T^2$ is normal, $\mathcal{W}(T^{2k+1})$ lies on one side of a line passing through the origin (possibly including some points on the line) for some $k\in\mathbb{N}$, and $\mathrm{asc\,}(T)= 1$ (or $\mathrm{dsc\,}(T)=1$), then $T$ must be normal. This complements the previous result due to Putnam [28]. Furthermore, we prove that $T$ is normal (positive) if and only if $\mathrm{asc\,}(T)= 1$ and there exist coprime numbers $p,q\geq 2$ such that $T^p$ and $T^q$ are normal (positive). Finally, we also show that $T$ is positive if and only if $T^k$ is accretive for all $k\in\mathbb{N}$, which answers the question from [22] in the affirmative.

$q$-numerical radius of rank-one operators and the generalized Buzano inequality

Here, we study the $q$-numerical radius of rank-one operators on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$. More precisely, for $q \in [0,1]$ and $a, b \in \mathcal{H}$, we establish the formula \[ ω_q(a \otimes b) = \frac{1}{2}\left(\|a\|\|b\| + q|\langle a, b \rangle| + \sqrt{1-q^2}\sqrt{\|a\|^2\|b\|^2 - |\langle a, b \rangle|^2}\right), \] which represents a generalization of the well-known formula for the numerical radius of a rank-one operator in a Hilbert space, obtained by setting $q = 1$. As a corollary, we also derive a generalization of the classical Buzano inequality.
