Flavor and CP violations from sleptons at the muon collider

Supersymmetric theories generally have new flavor and CP violation sources in the squark and slepton mass matrices. They will contribute to the lepton flavor violation processes, such as $μ\to e γ$, which can be probed far below the current bound with an intense muon source at the front end of the muon collider. In addition, if sleptons can be produced at the muon collider, the flavor violation can occur at their production and decay, allowing us to probe the flavor mixing structure directly. Asymmetry between numbers of $μ^+ e^-$ and $e^+ μ^-$ events will be a sign for CP violation in supersymmetric flavor mixing.

Signatures of multi-TeV scale particles in supersymmetric theories

Supersymmetric particles at the multi-TeV scale will escape direct detection at planned future colliders. However, such particles induce non-decoupling corrections in processes involving the accessible superparticles through violations of the supersymmetric equivalence between gauge boson and gaugino couplings. In a previous study, we parametrized these violations in terms of super-oblique parameters and found significant deviations in well-motivated models. Here, we systematically classify the possible experimental probes of such deviations, and present detailed investigations of representative observables available at a future linear collider. In some scenarios, the $e^-e^-$ option and adjustable beam energy are exploited to achieve high precision. It is shown that precision measurements are possible for each of the three coupling relations, leading to significant bounds on the masses and properties of heavy superparticles and possible exotic sectors.

Super-oblique corrections and non-decoupling of supersymmetry breaking

If supersymmetric partners of the known particles have masses at the multi-TeV scale, they will not be directly discovered at planned future colliders and decouple from most observables. However, such superpartners also induce non-decoupling effects that break the supersymmetric equivalence of gauge boson couplings $g_i$ and gaugino couplings $h_i$ through supersymmetric analogues of the oblique corrections. Working within well-motivated theoretical frameworks, we find that multi-TeV scale supersymmetric particles produce deviations at the 1-10% level in the ratios $h_i/g_i$. Such effects allow one to bound the scale of kinematically inaccessible superpartners through precision measurements of processes involving the accessible superparticles. Alternatively, if all superpartners are found, significant deviations imply the existence of highly split exotic supermultiplets.

Supersymmetric Lepton Flavor Violation at the NLC

Supersymmetric theories generally have new flavor violation sources in the squark and slepton mass matrices. If significant lepton flavor violation exists, selectron and smuon should be nearly degenerate. This leads to the phenomenon of slepton oscillations, which is analogous to neutrino oscillations, if sleptons are produced at the Next Linear Collider. The direct slepton production at the Next Linear Collider provides a much more powerful probe of lepton flavor violation than the current bounds from rare processes, such as $μ\to eγ$.

CP Violation from Slepton Oscillations at the LHC and NLC

In supersymmetric theories the charged sleptons of different generations may oscillate amongst themselves while they decay. In the case of three generation oscillations, superpartner production at the LHC and NLC may lead to an observable $CP$-violating signal $N(e^+μ^-) - N(μ^+e^-)$. This signal is proportional to a $CP$-violating invariant of the slepton mass matrix, $\widetilde{J}$, which is not constrained by searches for the electric dipole moment of the electron. The sensitivity of the LHC and NLC to this signal is highly dependent on superpartner masses, but $\widetilde{J}$ may be probed to a level of $10^{-3}$. Observation of the $CP$-violating signal would imply a definite structure for the slepton mass matrices and have strong implications for models of flavor and SUSY breaking.

Supersymmetric Dynamical Generation of the Grand Unification Scale

The grand unification scale $M_{GUT}\sim 10^{16}$ GeV may arise from dynamical effects. With the advances in understanding of supersymmetric dynamics, we can break the grand unified group by introducing a strong gauge group which generates the grand unification scale. We also show how this mechanism can be combined with solutions to the doublet-triplet splitting problem. The same method can also be used for other symmetry breakings at intermediate scales as well.

Non-unified gaugino masses in supersymmetric missing partner models with hypercolor

The gaugino mass relations $m_3/{g_3^2} = m_2/{g_2^2} = m_1/{g_1^2}$ are considered to be robust signals for supersymmetric grand unification. In this letter, we point out that these relations may be significantly modified in an interesting class of models which solve the doublet-triplet splitting problem using a missing partner mechanism together with a strong hypercolor gauge group. The observation of non-unified gaugino masses, together with unified sfermion masses, provides a distinctive signature for these models.

A Supersymmetric Theory of Flavor with Radiative Fermion Masses

Supersymmetric theories involving a spontaneously broken flavor symmetry can lead to fermion masses which vanish at tree level but are generated by radiative corrections. In the context of supersymmetric theories with minimal low energy field content we discuss which fermion masses and mixings may be obtained radiatively, and find that constraints from flavor changing phenomenology imply that only the first generation fermion masses and some (but not all) CKM mixings can naturally come from radiative corrections. We also consider general conditions on theories of flavor which guarantee the existence of tree level massless fermions while having non-trivial CKM matrix elements at tree level. Two complete models of flavor are presented. In the first model, all first generation fermion masses are radiatively generated. In the second model, the electron and up quark mass are due to radiative corrections whereas the down mass appears at tree level, as does a successful prediction for the Cabibbo angle $\sin θ_c = \sqrt{m_d/m_s}$.

Flavor Mixing Signals For Realistic Supersymmetric Unification

The gauge interactions of any supersymmetric extension of the standard model involve new flavor mixing matrices. The assumptions involved in the construction of minimal supersymmetric models, both $SU(3) \times SU(2) \times U(1)$ and grand unified theories, force a large degree of triviality on these matrices. However, the requirement of realistic quark and lepton masses in supersymmetric grand unified theories forces these matrices to be non-trivial. This leads to important new dominant contributions to the neutron electric dipole moment and to the decay mode $p \to K^oμ^+$, and suggests that there may be important weak scale radiative corrections to the Yukawa coupling matrix of the up quarks. The lepton flavor violating signal $μ\to eγ$ is studied in these theories when $\tanβ$ is sufficiently large that radiative effects of couplings other than $λ_t$ must be included. The naive expectation that large $\tanβ$ will force sleptons to unacceptably large masses is not borne out: radiative suppressions to the leptonic flavor mixing angles allow regions where the sleptons are as light as 300 GeV, provided the top Yukawa coupling in the unified theory is near the minimal value consistent with $m_t$.
