GEM-Occ: From Visual Geometry Evidence to Embodied Semantic Occupancy Memory

Semantic occupancy provides a structured spatial memory for embodied indoor agents by jointly representing occupied regions, observed free space, unknown areas, and object semantics. However, existing indoor occupancy benchmarks and methods mainly focus on single-view prediction or room-level online perception, leaving long-horizon semantic mapping across connected indoor spaces underexplored. We introduce HIOcc, a hierarchical indoor occupancy benchmark that unifies ScanNet, ScanNet++, and Matterport3D under a common sparse semantic occupancy format while preserving their native observation geometries, including perspective RGB-D frames and pano-centric observation groups. HIOcc supports three complementary evaluation regimes: local semantic occupancy prediction, room-level online occupancy mapping, and building-level mapping across connected panoramic environments. We further propose GEM-Occ, a Gaussian Evidence Memory framework for semantic occupancy mapping. Rather than using pointmaps as persistent map states, GEM-Occ treats local visual geometry predictions as transient evidence, converts them into semantic Gaussian occupancy evidence and free-space ray evidence, and fuses them into a persistent hierarchical memory through visibility- and uncertainty-aware causal updates. The memory is organized into local caches, room-level submaps, and a building-level graph, and can be queried at any time through Gaussian-to-occupancy splatting. Experiments on HIOcc show that GEM-Occ improves local occupancy prediction, online map stability, free-space reasoning, revisit consistency, and building-level scalability over prior indoor occupancy and Gaussian-based mapping baselines.

Bridging 3D Gaussians and Semantic Occupancy for Comprehensive Open-Vocabulary Scene Understanding from Unposed Images

Comprehensive 3D scene understanding from sparse, unposed images requires a model to recover renderable geometry, open-vocabulary semantics, and free/occupied 3D space without relying on external camera calibration. Recent feed-forward Gaussian methods improve pose-free reconstruction and semantic rendering, but their Gaussian primitives are mainly optimized through image-space objectives and remain weakly constrained in unobserved regions. We propose \textit{COVScene}, a pose-free semantic Gaussian framework that couples renderable Gaussian primitives with a dense semantic occupancy field through differentiable volumetric lifting. Instead of converting Gaussians to voxels only at evaluation time, COVScene lifts the predicted semantic Gaussians inside the training computation graph, so volumetric regularization provides gradients to Gaussian opacity, geometry, and semantic features. The framework combines a semantic-aware Geometry Transformer, multi-task Gaussian decoding, geometric foundation distillation, and occupancy entropy regularization to support novel view synthesis, open-vocabulary semantic querying, and semantic occupancy prediction within a single representation. Experiments on ScanNet and ScanNet++ show that COVScene maintains competitive rendering quality, improves open-vocabulary segmentation, and achieves stronger semantic occupancy prediction than the self-supervised baseline without direct voxel-level supervision.

Distilling Future Temporal Knowledge with Masked Feature Reconstruction for 3D Object Detection

Camera-based temporal 3D object detection has shown impressive results in autonomous driving, with offline models improving accuracy by using future frames. Knowledge distillation (KD) can be an appealing framework for transferring rich information from offline models to online models. However, existing KD methods overlook future frames, as they mainly focus on spatial feature distillation under strict frame alignment or on temporal relational distillation, thereby making it challenging for online models to effectively learn future knowledge. To this end, we propose a sparse query-based approach, Future Temporal Knowledge Distillation (FTKD), which effectively transfers future frame knowledge from an offline teacher model to an online student model. Specifically, we present a future-aware feature reconstruction strategy to encourage the student model to capture future features without strict frame alignment. In addition, we further introduce future-guided logit distillation to leverage the teacher's stable foreground and background context. FTKD is applied to two high-performing 3D object detection baselines, achieving up to 1.3 mAP and 1.3 NDS gains on the nuScenes dataset, as well as the most accurate velocity estimation, without increasing inference cost.

Scaling Up Occupancy-centric Driving Scene Generation: Dataset and Method

Driving scene generation is a critical domain for autonomous driving, enabling downstream applications, including perception and planning evaluation. Occupancy-centric methods have recently achieved state-of-the-art results by offering consistent conditioning across frames and modalities; however, their performance heavily depends on annotated occupancy data, which still remains scarce. To overcome this limitation, we curate Nuplan-Occ, the largest semantic occupancy dataset to date, constructed from the widely used Nuplan benchmark. Its scale and diversity facilitate not only large-scale generative modeling but also autonomous driving downstream applications. Based on this dataset, we develop a unified framework that jointly synthesizes high-quality semantic occupancy, multi-view videos, and LiDAR point clouds. Our approach incorporates a spatio-temporal disentangled architecture to support high-fidelity spatial expansion and temporal forecasting of 4D dynamic occupancy. To bridge modal gaps, we further propose two novel techniques: a Gaussian splatting-based sparse point map rendering strategy that enhances multi-view video generation, and a sensor-aware embedding strategy that explicitly models LiDAR sensor properties for realistic multi-LiDAR simulation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves superior generation fidelity and scalability compared to existing approaches, and validates its practical value in downstream tasks. Interpretable Single-View 3D Gaussian Splatting using Unsupervised Hierarchical Disentangled Representation Learning

Gaussian Splatting (GS) has recently marked a significant advancement in 3D reconstruction, delivering both rapid rendering and high-quality results. However, existing 3DGS methods pose challenges in understanding underlying 3D semantics, which hinders model controllability and interpretability. To address it, we propose an interpretable single-view 3DGS framework, termed 3DisGS, to discover both coarse- and fine-grained 3D semantics via hierarchical disentangled representation learning (DRL). Specifically, the model employs a dual-branch architecture, consisting of a point cloud initialization branch and a triplane-Gaussian generation branch, to achieve coarse-grained disentanglement by separating 3D geometry and visual appearance features. Subsequently, fine-grained semantic representations within each modality are further discovered through DRL-based encoder-adapters. To our knowledge, this is the first work to achieve unsupervised interpretable 3DGS. Evaluations indicate that our model achieves 3D disentanglement while preserving high-quality and rapid reconstruction.

UniScene: Unified Occupancy-centric Driving Scene Generation

Generating high-fidelity, controllable, and annotated training data is critical for autonomous driving. Existing methods typically generate a single data form directly from a coarse scene layout, which not only fails to output rich data forms required for diverse downstream tasks but also struggles to model the direct layout-to-data distribution. In this paper, we introduce UniScene, the first unified framework for generating three key data forms - semantic occupancy, video, and LiDAR - in driving scenes. UniScene employs a progressive generation process that decomposes the complex task of scene generation into two hierarchical steps: (a) first generating semantic occupancy from a customized scene layout as a meta scene representation rich in both semantic and geometric information, and then (b) conditioned on occupancy, generating video and LiDAR data, respectively, with two novel transfer strategies of Gaussian-based Joint Rendering and Prior-guided Sparse Modeling. This occupancy-centric approach reduces the generation burden, especially for intricate scenes, while providing detailed intermediate representations for the subsequent generation stages. Extensive experiments demonstrate that UniScene outperforms previous SOTAs in the occupancy, video, and LiDAR generation, which also indeed benefits downstream driving tasks. Generalized Covariant Entropy Bound in Einstein Gravity with Quadratic Curvature Corrections

We explore the generalized covariant entropy bound in the theory where Einstein gravity is perturbed by quadratic curvature terms, which can be viewed as the first-order quantum correction to Einstein gravity. By replacing the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy with the holographic entanglement entropy of this theory and introducing two reasonable physical assumptions, we demonstrate that the corresponding Generalized Covariant Entropy Bound is satisfied under a first-order approximation of the perturbation from the quadratic curvature terms. Our findings suggest that the entropy bound and the Generalized Second Law of black holes are satisfied in the Einstein gravity under the first-order perturbation from the quadratic curvature corrections, and they also imply that the generalized covariant entropy bound may still hold even after considering the quantum correction of gravity, but in this case, we may need to use holographic entanglement entropy as the formula for gravitational entropy.

Polarized image of synchrotron radiations of hotspots in Schwarzschilld-Melvin black hole spacetime

We revisit the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) of charged particles and study the polarized images of synchrotron radiations emitted from such orbiting hotspots on the equatorial plane in Schwarzchild-Melvin black hole spacetime. We obtain a constraint on the magnetic field to retain ISCOs for charged particles. In particular, we identify a critical value for the strength of the magnetic field $B_c$ that the circular orbits can have positive and negative angular momentums above $B_c$ while only one branch survive below $B_c$. Furthermore, we investigate and discuss the primary and secondary images of circularly orbiting charged hotspots carrying the information of polarization directions observed by distant observers.

Mining of high throughput screening database reveals AP-1 and autophagy pathways as potential targets for COVID-19 therapeutics

The recent global pandemic of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 presents an urgent need for new therapeutic candidates. Many efforts have been devoted to screening existing drug libraries with the hope to repurpose approved drugs as potential treatments for COVID-19. However, the antiviral mechanisms of action for the drugs found active in these phenotypic screens are largely unknown. To deconvolute the viral targets for more effective anti-COVID-19 drug development, we mined our in-house database of approved drug screens against 994 assays and compared their activity profiles with the drug activity profile in a cytopathic effect (CPE) assay of SARS-CoV-2. We found that the autophagy and AP-1 signaling pathway activity profiles are significantly correlated with the anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity profile. In addition, a class of neurology/psychiatry drugs was found significantly enriched with anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity. Taken together, these results have provided new insights into SARS-CoV-2 infection and potential targets for COVID-19 therapeutics.

Bridge the Domain Gap Between Ultra-wide-field and Traditional Fundus Images via Adversarial Domain Adaptation

For decades, advances in retinal imaging technology have enabled effective diagnosis and management of retinal disease using fundus cameras. Recently, ultra-wide-field (UWF) fundus imaging by Optos camera is gradually put into use because of its broader insights on fundus for some lesions that are not typically seen in traditional fundus images. Research on traditional fundus images is an active topic but studies on UWF fundus images are few. One of the most important reasons is that UWF fundus images are hard to obtain. In this paper, for the first time, we explore domain adaptation from the traditional fundus to UWF fundus images. We propose a flexible framework to bridge the domain gap between two domains and co-train a UWF fundus diagnosis model by pseudo-labelling and adversarial learning. We design a regularisation technique to regulate the domain adaptation. Also, we apply MixUp to overcome the over-fitting issue from incorrect generated pseudo-labels. Our experimental results on either single or both domains demonstrate that the proposed method can well adapt and transfer the knowledge from traditional fundus images to UWF fundus images and improve the performance of retinal disease recognition.
