Convergence Rate Analysis of the AdamW-style Shampoo: Unifying One-Sided and Two-Sided Preconditioning

This paper studies AdamW-style Shampoo, an effective variant of the classical Shampoo that won the external tuning track of the AlgoPerf neural network training competition. Our analysis unifies one-sided and two-sided preconditioning. When the exponents of the two preconditioners sum to $1/2$, we establish the convergence rate $\frac{1}{K}\sum_{k=1}^KE\left[||\nabla f(X_k)||_*\right]\leq O(\frac{\sqrt{m+n}C}{K^{1/4}})$, where $K$ represents the number of iterations, $(m,n)$ denotes the dimensions of the matrix-valued parameters, and $C$ matches the constant appearing in the optimal convergence rate of SGD. Theoretically, the nuclear norm and Frobenius norm satisfy $||\nabla f(X)||_F\leq ||\nabla f(X)||_*\leq \sqrt{\min\{m,n\}}||\nabla f(X)||_F$, which suggests that our convergence rate is analogous to the optimal $\frac{1}{K}\sum_{k=1}^KE\left[||\nabla f(X_k)||_F\right]\leq O(\frac{C}{K^{1/4}})$ convergence rate of SGD in the ideal case where $||\nabla f(X)||_*= Θ(\sqrt{\min\{m,n\}})||\nabla f(X)||_F$ and $m$ and $n$ are of comparable magnitude. Then, we extend our analysis to settings where the preconditioning exponents do not sum to 1/2, and establish convergence with an explicit but more involved rate.

Carbon Layer Orientation and Closed-Pore Construction Achieving Ultra-Low Specific Surface Area Hard Carbon for High-Performance Na-ion Storage

Addressing the critical trade-off between initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and reversible capacity in hard carbon anodes for Na-ion batteries (NIBs), we introduce a novel coupling strategy that combines carbon layer orientation reconstruction with closed-pore construction to produce hard carbon with an ultra-low specific surface area. We demonstrate that the nanographite domains within the hard carbon precursor undergo entropy-driven orientation reconstruction through the synergistic regulation of heteroatom doping and medium-temperature carbonization. This process not only increases interlayer spacing and promotes structural disorder but also enables the formation of dense, closed pores and ultramicropores at domain boundaries via confined atomic migration, while simultaneously encapsulating surface open pores within internal closed ones. Due to this unique pore architecture, our hard carbon exhibits an ultra-low specific surface area of 1.89 m2 g-1 with a markedly higher proportion of closed pores. As a result, our hard carbon achieves a remarkable reversible capacity of 342.3 mAh g-1 at 20 mA g-1, with an exceptional ICE of 90.4% and a dominant plateau capacity of 262.3 mAh g-1 (76.6%) for NIBs. We believe this coupling strategy provides a new paradigm for the structural engineering of high-ICE anode materials in advanced NIBs.

MV-Actor: Aligning Multi-View Semantics and Spatial Awareness for Bimanual Manipulation

Robotic manipulation has been widely applied in industrial scenarios. Compared with single-arm manipulation, bimanual manipulation is equipped with multiple cameras to capture information from different viewpoints. However, existing multi-view policies encode each view independently or fuse view features shallowly, resulting in limited sharing semantic perception and unreliable spatial awareness. In this paper, we propose \textbf{MV-Actor}, a multi-view perception framework that builds a unified semantic-spatial representation for bimanual manipulation. First, MV-Actor performs Multi-view Semantic Interaction to share semantic perception across views. Then it uses Semantic-Spatial Token Interaction to ground visual semantics with feed-forward reconstruction model features and acquire reliable spatial awareness. Finally, a Guided Metric Depth Repair module refines degraded sensor depth to provide more reliable metric anchors under consumer-grade depth noise. In simulation experiments conducted on the PerAct2 bimanual benchmark, MV-Actor achieves a state-of-the-art average success rate of 87.8\%. In real-world evaluations with more frequent viewpoint changes and unstable consumer-grade depth, MV-Actor outperforms both RGB and RGB-D baselines, further demonstrating the benefit of sharing semantic perception and reliable spatial awareness for bimanual manipulation.

AR Forcing: Towards Long-Horizon Robot Navigation World Model

The diffusion based robot navigation world models are typically trained using parallel supervision, while autoregressive inference is employed during path planning. This results in a distribution shift between training and inference, which destabilizes the performance over long-horizon prediction. We propose AR Forcing, an autoregressive training strategy, which integrates the standard diffusion loss into the autoregressive training loop. At each step, the model uses its own predictions to update the context and optimize the single step noise prediction objective, thereby explicitly exposing the model to the inference state distribution during training. Our method does not require additional discriminators or distribution-matching losses, retains the original diffusion framework and sampler, and is easy to integrate. Experiments on multi-domain navigation datasets (RECON, SCAND, HuRoN, TartanDrive) show that compared with strong baselines, AR Forcing improved the consistency of generated images during long-horizon navigation and the accuracy of predicted trajectories, enhancing robustness of the model in complex known and unknown environments. We will release the code soon.

Bridging Classification and Reconstruction: Cooperative Time Series Anomaly Detection

Time series anomaly detection (TSAD) has long been a hot research topic in data mining due to its various applications. Recent studies challenge the effectiveness of popular deep learning methods for TSAD, suggesting their failure in detecting subtle and prolonged anomalies. Outlier Exposure (OE) and Masked Autoencoder (MAE) emerge as two promising paradigms (classification and reconstruction) for solving the above problems. However, OE-based methods are constrained by poor generalization, while MAE-based methods are limited by masking misalignment issues. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel framework, CoAD, which unifies the two paradigms to leverage their complementary strengths while mitigating their respective weaknesses. In this framework, the classification module generates probability-informed soft masks for the reconstruction module, which in turn alleviates the generalization problem of the classification module. This cooperative design enables CoAD to effectively detect subtle and complex anomalies that are often overlooked by existing methods. Additionally, the classification module is carefully designed to resolve issues related to improper classification granularity and the neglect of frequency information. Extensive experiments on high-quality benchmark datasets, conducted under rigorous evaluation protocols, demonstrate that CoAD significantly outperforms both state-of-the-art deep learning and traditional data mining methods, highlighting the potential of deep learning in TSAD. Moreover, CoAD is lightweight and substantially faster than existing SOTA methods, demonstrating its practical value for large-scale, real-time applications.

LISA: Language-guided Interference-aware Spatial-Frequency Attention for Driver Gaze Estimation

Driver gaze estimation serves as a fundamental metric for evaluating driver attentiveness in modern monitoring systems. Beyond being vulnerable to sudden lighting changes and sensor noise, spatial-domain models struggle to disentangle authentic gaze cues from irrelevant visual attributes. In this paper, we propose LISA, a \textbf{L}anguage-guided \textbf{I}nterference-aware \textbf{S}patial-Frequency \textbf{A}ttention framework that combines frequency-domain priors with vision-language knowledge. Observing that the amplitude spectrum remains relatively stable even under spatial perturbations, we design a dual-domain fusion mechanism. It integrates stable low-frequency semantics into high-frequency details, employing spatial attention to precisely target ocular regions. To reduce semantic ambiguity, we also introduce a training-time disentanglement strategy. Using a frozen CLIP encoder and orthogonal regularization, we explicitly separate gaze features from appearance interference. Experiments on two benchmarks show that LISA achieves state-of-the-art performance, with significantly improved robustness against occlusions and lighting variations. Forcing-KV: Hybrid KV Cache Compression for Efficient Autoregressive Video Diffusion Models

Autoregressive (AR) video diffusion models adopt a streaming generation framework, enabling long-horizon video generation with real-time responsiveness, as exemplified by the Self Forcing training paradigm. However, existing AR video diffusion models still suffer from significant attention complexity and severe memory overhead due to the redundant key-value (KV) caches across historical frames, which limits scalability. In this paper, we tackle this challenge by introducing KV cache compression into autoregressive video diffusion. We observe that attention heads in mainstream AR diffusion models exhibit markedly distinct attention patterns and functional roles that remain stable across samples and denoising steps. Building on our empirical study of head-wise functional specialization, we divide the attention heads into two categories: static heads, which focus on transitions across autoregressive chunks and intra-frame fidelity, and dynamic heads, which govern inter-frame motion and consistency. We then propose Forcing-KV, a hybrid KV cache compression strategy that performs structured static pruning for static heads and dynamic pruning based on segment-wise similarity for dynamic heads. While maintaining output quality, our method achieves a generation speed of over 29 frames per second on a single NVIDIA H200 GPU along with 30% cache memory reduction, delivering up to 1.35x and 1.50x speedups on LongLive and Self Forcing at 480P resolution, and further scaling to 2.82x speedup at 1080P resolution. Token Economics for LLM Agents: A Dual-View Study from Computing and Economics

As LLM agents evolve, tokens have emerged as the core economic primitives of Agentic AI. However, their exponential consumption introduces severe computational, collaborative, and security bottlenecks. Current surveys remain fragmented across system optimization, architecture design, and trust, lacking a unified framework to evaluate the fundamental trade-off between output quality and economic cost. To bridge this gap, this survey presents the first comprehensive survey of Token Economics. By unifying computer science and economics, we conceptualize tokens as production factors, exchange mediums, and units of account. We synthesize existing literature across a four-dimensional taxonomy: (1) Micro-level (Single Agent): Optimizing budget-constrained factor substitution via neoclassical firm theory. (2) Meso-level (Multi-Agent Systems): Minimizing collaboration friction using transaction cost and principal-agent theories. (3) Macro-level (Agent Ecosystems): Addressing congestion externalities and pricing via mechanism design. (4) Security: Internalizing adversarial threats as endogenous economic constraints. Finally, we outline frontier directions, including differentiable token budgets and dynamic markets, to lay the theoretical foundation for scalable next-generation agent systems.

Extreme Galaxy-scale Outflows Are Frequent among Luminous Early Quasars

The existence of abundant post-starburst/quiescent galaxies just $\sim$1-2 Gyrs after the Big Bang challenges our current paradigm of galaxy evolution. Cosmological simulations suggest that quasar feedback is likely the most promising mechanism responsible for such rapid quenching. Here we report a high detection rate (6/27) of exceptionally fast and powerful galaxy-scale outflows traced by [O III] emission in z $\sim$ 5-6 luminous quasars as revealed by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), with velocity up to $\sim$8400 km s$^{-1}$ and order-of-magnitude kinetic energy outflow rates up to $\sim$260% the observed quasar bolometric luminosities. This fraction is $>$3.9 and $\sim$8.8 times of those in comparison samples at z $\sim$ 1.5-3.5 and z $<$ 1, respectively. These extreme outflows are comparable to or even faster than the most rapid [O III] outflows reported at z $\lesssim$ 3, and could reach the circumgalactic medium (CGM) or even the intergalactic medium (IGM). The average kinetic energy outflow rate of our sample is more than 2 dex higher than those of the lower-redshift comparison samples. The substantially higher frequency of outflows with energetics well above the threshold for negative feedback in our sample strongly suggests that quasar feedback plays a significant role in efficiently quenching/regulating early massive galaxies.

The grip of grammar on meaning uncertainty: cross-linguistic evidence, neural correlates, and clinical relevance

Isolated word meanings are inherently uncertain. This uncertainty reduces when they are combined and anchored in context. We propose that grammar compresses meaning uncertainty cross-linguistically, which is reflected in brain and selectively disrupted in disorders. Compression was operationalized as the relative difference between non-contextual surprisal estimated from lexical frequency, and contextual surprisal from grammar-sensitive models. In narratives from 20 languages, contextual surprisal reduced frequency-based surprisal. This reduction closely tracked the surprisal cost of reversing word order, and scaled with richer, non-redundant lexis as organized by more complex but optimal dependency structure. During fMRI, surprisal and its reduction explained BOLD activity for comprehension and production in overlapping but distinct regions. Uncertainty reduction was significantly attenuated in aphasia, dementia, and schizophrenia, but remained intact where primary deficit is not language. These findings position uncertainty reduction via grammar as a foundational concept that illuminates principles, brain basis, and disruptions of language.

A Digital Pathology Resource for Liver Cancer Quantification with Datasets, Benchmarks, and Tools

Liver cancer, especially hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), imposes a substantial global disease burden. Accurate diagnosis and prognostic assessment directly influence treatment selection and patient survival, and pathological examination remains the gold standard for liver cancer diagnosis. Identifying diverse tissue components and pathological subtypes on histopathology slides is crucial for estimating postoperative recurrence risk and overall prognosis. However, most publicly available resources are still provided at the whole-slide image (WSI) level, and well-annotated datasets for fine-grained tissue component identification in liver cancer are scarce, which hinders reproducible model development and the deployment of quantitative analysis tools. To address this gap, we release HepatoBench, a patch-level image database for liver cancer with annotations for seven key tissue categories. Based on HepatoBench, we train and open-source a deep learning classification model as a tissue recognition tool. Furthermore, we train a WSI-level tumor/non-tumor segmentation model to automatically localize lesion regions across entire slides. By integrating the patch-level tissue classifier with the WSI-level segmentation model, we build HepatoQuant, an end-to-end, disease-specific regional quantification tool for liver cancer, enabling a unified workflow from WSIs to tissue composition parsing and quantitative statistics. We also open-source HepatoBench, the benchmarking protocol, and supporting tools, providing a solid foundation for automated regional quantification and fair method comparison in liver cancer pathology.

Efficient Inference for Large Vision-Language Models: Bottlenecks, Techniques, and Prospects

Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) enable sophisticated reasoning over images and videos, yet their inference is hindered by a systemic efficiency barrier known as visual token dominance. This overhead is driven by a multi-regime interplay between high-resolution feature extraction, quadratic attention scaling, and memory bandwidth constraints. We present a systematic taxonomy of efficiency techniques structured around the inference lifecycle, consisting of encoding, prefilling, and decoding. Unlike prior reviews focused on isolated optimizations, we analyze the end-to-end pipeline to reveal how upstream decisions dictate downstream bottlenecks, covering compute-bound visual encoding, the intensive prefilling of massive contexts, and the ''visual memory wall'' in bandwidth-bound decoding. By decoupling the efficiency landscape into the axes of shaping information density, managing long-context attention, and overcoming memory limits, this work provides a structured analysis of how isolated optimizations compose to navigate the trade-off between visual fidelity and system efficiency. The survey concludes by outlining four future frontiers supported by pilot empirical insights, including hybrid compression based on functional unit sensitivity, modality-aware decoding with relaxed verification, progressive state management for streaming continuity, and stage-disaggregated serving through hardware-algorithm co-design. Our literature repository is at https://github.com/SuDIS-ZJU/Efficient-LVLMs-Inference.

See the Forest for the Trees: Loosely Speculative Decoding via Visual-Semantic Guidance for Efficient Inference of Video LLMs

Video Large Language Models (Video-LLMs) excel in video understanding but suffer from high inference latency during autoregressive generation. Speculative Decoding (SD) mitigates this by applying a draft-and-verify paradigm, yet existing methods are constrained by rigid exact-match rules, severely limiting the acceleration potential. To bridge this gap, we propose LVSpec, the first training-free loosely SD framework tailored for Video-LLMs. Grounded in the insight that generation is governed by sparse visual-relevant anchors (mandating strictness) amidst abundant visual-irrelevant fillers (permitting loose verification), LVSpec employs a lightweight visual-relevant token identification scheme to accurately pinpoint the former. To further maximize acceptance, we augment this with a position-shift tolerant mechanism that effectively salvages positionally mismatched but semantically equivalent tokens. Experiments demonstrate that LVSpec achieves high fidelity and speed: it preserves >99.8 of target performance while accelerating Qwen2.5-VL-32B by 2.70x and LLaVA-OneVision-72B by 2.94x. Notably, it boosts the mean accepted length and speedup ratio by 136% and 35% compared to SOTA training-free SD methods for Video-LLMs.

HybridKV: Hybrid KV Cache Compression for Efficient Multimodal Large Language Model Inference

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have advanced unified reasoning over text, images, and videos, but their inference is hindered by the rapid growth of key-value (KV) caches. Each visual input expands into thousands of tokens, causing caches to scale linearly with context length and remain resident in GPU memory throughout decoding, which leads to prohibitive memory overhead and latency even on high-end GPUs. A common solution is to compress caches under a fixed allocated budget at different granularities: token-level uniformly discards less important tokens, layer-level varies retention across layers, and head-level redistributes budgets across heads. Yet these approaches stop at allocation and overlook the heterogeneous behaviors of attention heads that require distinct compression strategies. We propose HybridKV, a hybrid KV cache compression framework that integrates complementary strategies in three stages: heads are first classified into static or dynamic types using text-centric attention; then a top-down budget allocation scheme hierarchically assigns KV budgets; finally, static heads are compressed by text-prior pruning and dynamic heads by chunk-wise retrieval. Experiments on 11 multimodal benchmarks with Qwen2.5-VL-7B show that HybridKV reduces KV cache memory by up to $7.9\times$ and achieves $1.52\times$ faster decoding, with almost no performance drop or even higher relative to the full-cache MLLM.

Synonymous Codon Usage Bias Overrides Phylogeny to Reflect Convergent Frond Architecture in a Rapidly Radiating Fern Family Thelypteridaceae

Convergent evolution provides powerful evidence for natural selection, yet its molecular basis is typically sought in protein-coding amino acid substitutions. Whether adaptive pressures can drive the convergent evolution of synonymous codon usage bias (CUB) to override phylogenetic history remains a fundamental question. Here, we investigate this within the rapidly radiating fern family Thelypteridaceae by establishing a comparative framework that integrates chloroplast phylogenomics with dimensionality reduction of codon usage, morphological data, and divergence time estimation. Our results reveal that chloroplast CUB patterns are strikingly incongruent with the phylogeny of this family. Instead, they partition species into distinct clusters that strongly correlate with a convergently evolved morphological trait, lamina base architecture, a key adaptation whose radiation we date to the early Neogene. This convergent molecular signal is driven by a specific subset of photosynthesis-related genes (ndhJ, psaA, and psbD), which exhibit a high density of type-specific, third-position codon substitutions. These findings demonstrate that CUB can serve as a powerful, quantifiable indicator of adaptive history, revealing a cryptic layer of molecular convergence linked to the regulation of protein synthesis. Our work providing a new framework for uncovering adaptive histories obscured by complex evolutionary processes.

Bridging Pixels and Words: Mask-Aware Local Semantic Fusion for Multimodal Media Verification

As multimodal misinformation becomes more sophisticated, its detection and grounding are crucial. However, current multimodal verification methods, relying on passive holistic fusion, struggle with sophisticated misinformation. Due to 'feature dilution,' global alignments tend to average out subtle local semantic inconsistencies, effectively masking the very conflicts they are designed to find. We introduce MaLSF (Mask-aware Local Semantic Fusion), a novel framework that shifts the paradigm to active, bidirectional verification, mimicking human cognitive cross-referencing. MaLSF utilizes mask-label pairs as semantic anchors to bridge pixels and words. Its core mechanism features two innovations: 1) a Bidirectional Cross-modal Verification (BCV) module that acts as an interrogator, using parallel query streams (Text-as-Query and Image-as-Query) to explicitly pinpoint conflicts; and 2) a Hierarchical Semantic Aggregation (HSA) module that intelligently aggregates these multi-granularity conflict signals for task-specific reasoning. In addition, to extract fine-grained mask-label pairs, we introduce a set of diverse mask-label pair extraction parsers. MaLSF achieves state-of-the-art performance on both the DGM4 and multimodal fake news detection tasks. Extensive ablation studies and visualization results further verify its effectiveness and interpretability.

ParallelVLM: Lossless Video-LLM Acceleration with Visual Alignment Aware Parallel Speculative Decoding

Although current Video-LLMs achieve impressive performance in video understanding tasks, their autoregressive decoding efficiency remains constrained by the massive number of video tokens. Visual token pruning can partially ease this bottleneck, yet existing approaches still suffer from information loss and yield only modest acceleration in decoding. In this paper, we propose ParallelVLM, a training-free draft-then-verify speculative decoding framework that overcomes both mutual waiting and limited speedup-ratio problems between draft and target models in long-video settings. ParallelVLM features two parallelized stages that maximize hardware utilization and incorporate an Unbiased Verifier-Guided Pruning strategy to better align the draft and target models by eliminating the positional bias in attention-guided pruning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ParallelVLM effectively expands the draft window by $1.6\sim1.8\times$ with high accepted lengths, and accelerates various video understanding benchmarks by 3.36$\times$ on LLaVA-Onevision-72B and 2.42$\times$ on Qwen2.5-VL-32B compared with vanilla autoregressive decoding.

MeMix: Writing Less, Remembering More for Streaming 3D Reconstruction

Reconstruction is a fundamental task in 3D vision and a fundamental capability for spatial intelligence. Particularly, streaming 3D reconstruction is central to real-time spatial perception, yet existing recurrent online models often suffer from progressive degradation on long sequences due to state drift and forgetting, motivating inference-time remedies. We present MeMix, a training-free, plug-and-play module that improves streaming reconstruction by recasting the recurrent state into a Memory Mixture. MeMix partitions the state into multiple independent memory patches and updates only the least-aligned memory patches while exactly preserving others. This selective update mitigates catastrophic forgetting while retaining $O(1)$ inference memory, and requires no fine-tuning or additional learnable parameters, making it directly applicable to existing recurrent reconstruction models. Across standard benchmarks (ScanNet, 7-Scenes, KITTI, etc.), under identical backbones and inference settings, MeMix reduces reconstruction completeness error by 15.3% on average (up to 40.0%) across 300--500 frame streams on 7-Scenes. The code is available at https://dongjiacheng06.github.io/MeMix/
