Realizing tunable non-Hermitian skin effects in dynamical quantum systems via the relative phase between multiple time-periodic driving

We demonstrate how the relative phase between the multiple time periodic driving can decide the emergence and the favorable localization direction of non-Hermitian skin modes. For the static non-Hermitian quantum chain with parity time symmetry, non-Hermitian skin effects (NHSEs) can be prohibited. As the dynamical driving is turned on, NHSEs get artificially reactivated, where the relative phase can serve as the controlling switch by breaking the temporal symmetry constraints. Meanwhile, a change of relative phase can also alter the spatial structures of the long-time averaged effective Hamiltonian, which will consequently lead to the variation of skin localization direction for systems of higher dimensions. Our formalisms can be generally realized in diverse optical and mechanical platforms, and will pave the way for realizing tunable skin density profiles.

Exotic localization for the bound states in the non-reciprocal two-particle Hubbard model

We investigate the localization behavior of two-particle Hubbard model in the presence of non-reciprocal tunneling and non-Hermitian bound states can be obtained with strong repulsive interaction. Remarkably, the interaction induced bound state localization (BSL) can compete with non-Hermitian skin effect (NHSE) and give rise to diverse density profiles. Via the quantum scattering methods in the center of mass frame, the system can be mapped to an effective two dimensional (2D) lattice with the two-particle interaction contributing to a defective line. For the bound states of the largest eigen-energy, in contrast to the Hermitian cases, where the maximal localization center is pinned around the center of lattice, NHSE can lead to a faded diagonal line localization. For the unbound scattering states, unlike the single corner localization in the 2D Hatano-Nelson model, interaction can force the total localization to split into multiple centers. To make the system topological nontrivial, we further include terms taking the form of two-photon tunneling and the non-Hermitian photon bound pairs are also observed, which demonstrates a competition among NHSE, BSL and edge localization. Finally, we propose the experimental simulations via the platforms of electrical circuits. Our works shed light on the crossover study of quantum optics and non-Hermitian many body physics.

Bulk-boundary correspondence in topological systems with the momentum dependent energy shift

Bulk-boundary correspondences (BBCs) remain the central topic in modern condensed matter physics, and are gaining increasing interests with the recent discovery of non-Hermitian skin effects. However, there still exist profound features of BBCs that are beyond the existing framework. Here, we report the unexpected behavior of BBC when the Hamiltonian contains term of the form $d_0(k) I$, which serves as a momentum dependent energy shift. For Hermitian cases, momentum dependent energy shift can force the system to be semimetal, where topological phase transitions can take place with the upper and the lower bands keeping untouched. The proper modified BBC should be reconstructed from the perspective of the direct band gap. In non-Hermitian cases, skin effects are found to be capable of coexisting with the preserved BBC, of which the process can be greatly facilitated by the complex $d_0(k)I$. Remarkably, such results can be led a further step and contrary to the intuitive consideration, the modified BBC in Hermitian systems can be restored to be conventional by including extra non-Hermiticity. The physical origin for these phenomena lies in that $d_0(k)I$ can drastically change the point gap topology. Finally, the corresponding experimental simulations are proposed via the platforms of electric circuits.

The In-Flight Realtime Trigger and Localization Software of GECAM

Realtime trigger and localization of bursts are the key functions of GECAM, which is an all-sky gamma-ray monitor launched in Dec 10, 2020. We developed a multifunctional trigger and localization software operating on the CPU of the GECAM electronic box (EBOX). This onboard software has the following features: high trigger efficiency for real celestial bursts with a suppression of false triggers caused by charged particle bursts and background fluctuation, dedicated localization algorithm optimized for short and long bursts respetively, short time latency of the trigger information which is downlinked throught the BeiDou satellite navigation System (BDS). This paper presents the detailed design and deveopment of this trigger and localization software system of GECAM, including the main functions, general design, workflow and algorithms, as well as the verification and demonstration of this software, including the on-ground trigger tests with simulated gamma-ray bursts made by a dedicated X-ray tube and the in-flight performance to real gamma-ray bursts and magnetar bursts.

Non-Floquet engineering in periodically driven non-Hermitian systems

Floquet engineering, modulating quantum systems in a time periodic way, lies at the central part for realizing novel topological dynamical states. Thanks to the Floquet engineering, various new realms on experimentally simulating topological materials have emerged. Conventional Floquet engineering, however, only applies to time periodic non-dissipative Hermitian systems, and for the quantum systems in reality, non-Hermitian process with dissipation usually occurs. So far, it remains unclear how to characterize topological phases of periodically driven non-Hermitian systems via the frequency space Floquet Hamiltonian. Here, we propose the non-Floquet theory to identify different Floquet topological phases of time periodic non-Hermitian systems via the generation of Floquet band gaps in frequency space. In non-Floquet theory, the eigenstates of non-Hermitian Floquet Hamiltonian are temporally deformed to be of Wannier-Stark localization. Remarkably, we show that different choices of starting points of driving period can result to different localization behavior, which effect can reversely be utilized to design detectors of quantum phases in dissipative oscillating fields. Our protocols establish a fundamental rule for describing topological features in non-Hermitian dynamical systems and can find its applications to construct new types of Floquet topological materials.

Majorana Edge modes of Kitaev Chain with Multiple Time Periodic Driving

Floquet Majorana edge modes capture the topological features of periodically driven superconductors. We present a Kitaev chain with multiple time periodic driving and demonstrate how the avoidance of bands crossing is altered, which gives rise to new regions supporting Majorana edge modes. A one dimensional generalized method was proposed to predict Majorana edge modes via the Zak phase of the Floquet bands. We also study the time independent effective Hamiltonian at high frequency limit and introduce diverse index to characterize topological phases with different relative phase between the multiple driving. Our work enriches the physics of driven system and paves the way for locating Majorana edge modes in larger parameter space.

A new charge reconstruction algorithm for the DAMPE silicon microstrip detector

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is one of the four satellites within the Strategic Pioneer Research Program in Space Science of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). The Silicon-Tungsten Tracker (STK), which is composed of 768 singled-sided silicon microstrip detectors, is one of the four subdetectors in DAMPE, providing track reconstruction and charge identification for relativistic charged particles. The charge response of DAMPE silicon microstrip detectors is complicated, depending on the incident angle and impact position. A new charge reconstruction algorithm for the DAMPE silicon microstrip detector is introduced in this paper. This algorithm can correct the complicated charge response, and was proved applicable by the ion test beam.

Topological Supersolidity of Dipolar Fermi Gases in a Spin-Dependent Optical Lattice

We investigate topological supersolidity of dipolar Fermi gases in a spin-dependent 2D optical lattice. Numerical results show that the topological supersolid states can be synthesized via the combination of topological superfluid states with the stripe order, where the topological superfluid states generated with dipolar interaction possess the $Δ_{x}+iΔ_{y}$ order, and it is of D class topological classification. By adjusting the ratio between hopping amplitude $t_{x}/t_{y}$ and interaction strength $U$ with dipole orientation $ϕ\approx \fracπ{4}$, the system will undergo phase transitions among the $p_{x}+ip_{y}$-wave topological superfluid state, the p-wave superfluid state, and the topological supersolid state. The topological supersolid state is proved to be stable by the positive sign of the inverse compressibility. We design an experimental protocol to realize the staggered next-next-nearest-neighbour hopping via the laser assisted tunneling technique, which is the key to synthesize topological supersolid states.

Holographic paramagnetism-ferromagnetism phase transition with the nonlinear electrodynamics

In the probe limit, we investigate the nonlinear electrodynamical effects of the both exponential form and the logarithmic form on the holographic paramagnetism-ferromagnetism phase transition in the background of a Schwarzschild-AdS black hole spacetime. Moreover, by comparing the exponential form of nonlinear electrodynamics with the logarithmic form of nonlinear electrodynamics and the Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics which has been presented in Ref.~\cite{Wu:2016uyj}, we find that the higher nonlinear electrodynamics correction makes the critical temperature smaller and the magnetic moment harder form in the case without external field. Furthermore, the increase of nonlinear parameter b will result in extending the period of the external magnetic field. Especially, the effect of the exponential form of nonlinear electrodynamics on the periodicity of hysteresis loop is more noticeable.

The 192 Tracker Front-end Hybrid (TFH) modules and 8 identical Tracker Readout Board (TRB) modules are designed to control and digitalize the front signals. In this paper, the design of the readout electronics for STK and its performance will be presented in detail.
