$\mathbb{Z}$-graded rings as Cuntz-Pimsner rings

Given a $\mathbb{Z}$-graded ring $A$ and a subring $R\subseteq A$, it is natural to ask whether $A$ can be realised as the Cuntz-Pimsner ring of some $R$-system. In this paper, we derive sufficient conditions on $A$ and $R$ for this to be the case. As an application, we give conditions under which the Steinberg algebra $A_K(\mathcal{G})$ associated to a $\mathbb{Z}$-graded groupoid $\mathcal{G}=\sqcup_{n\in \mathbb{Z}} \mathcal{G}_n$ can be realised as the Cuntz-Pimsner ring of an $A_K(\mathcal{G}_0)$-system.

Simple flat Leavitt path algebras are von Neumann regular

For a unital ring, it is an open question whether flatness of simple modules implies all modules are flat and thus the ring is von Neumann regular. The question was raised by Ramamurthi over 40 years ago who called such rings SF-rings (i.e., simple modules are flat). In this note we show that a SF Steinberg algebra of an ample Hausdorff groupoid, graded by an ordered group, has an aperiodic unit space. For graph groupoids this implies that the graphs are acyclic. Combining with the Abrams-Rangaswamy Theorem, it follows that SF Leavitt path algebras are regular, answering Ramamurthi's question in positive for the class of Leavitt path algebras.

An explicit projective bimodule resolution of a Leavitt path algebra

We construct an explicit projective bimodule resolution for the Leavitt path algebra of a row-finite quiver. We prove that the Leavitt path algebra of a row-countable quiver has Hochschild cohomolgical dimension at most one, that is, it is quasi-free in the sense of Cuntz-Quillen. The construction of the resolution relies on an explicit derivation of the Leavitt path algebra.

The injective Leavitt complex

For a finite quiver $Q$ without sinks, we consider the corresponding finite dimensional algebra $A$ with radical square zero. We construct an explicit compact generator for the homotopy category of acyclic complexes of injective $A$-modules. We call such a generator the injective Leavitt complex of $Q$. This terminology is justified by the following result: the differential graded endomorphism algebra of the injective Leavitt complex of $Q$ is quasi-isomorphic to the Leavitt path algebra of $Q$. Here, the Leavitt path algebra is naturally Z-graded and viewed as a differential graded algebra with trivial differential.

Graded Steinberg algebras and partial actions

Given a graded ample Hausdorff groupoid, we realise its graded Steinberg algebra as a partial skew inverse semigroup ring. We use this to show that for a partial action of a discrete group on a locally compact Hausdorff topological space, the Steinberg algebra of the associated groupoid is graded isomorphic to the corresponding partial skew group ring. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the open invariant subsets of the topological space and the graded ideals of the partial skew group ring. We also consider the algebraic version of the partial $C^{*}$-algebra of an abelian group and realise it as a partial skew group ring via a partial action of the group on a topological space. Applications to the theory of Leavitt path algebras are given.

Graded Steinberg algebras and their representations

We study the category of left unital graded modules over the Steinberg algebra of a graded ample Hausdorff groupoid. In the first part of the paper, we show that this category is isomorphic to the category of unital left modules over the Steinberg algebra of the skew-product groupoid arising from the grading. To do this, we show that the Steinberg algebra of the skew product is graded isomorphic to a natural generalisation of the the Cohen-Montgomery smash product of the Steinberg algebra of the underlying groupoid with the grading group. In the second part of the paper, we study the minimal (that is, irreducible) representations in the category of graded modules of a Steinberg algebra, and establish a connection between the annihilator ideals of these minimal representations, and effectiveness of the groupoid. Specialising our results, we produce a representation of the monoid of graded finitely generated projective modules over a Leavitt path algebra. We deduce that the lattice of order-ideals in the $K_0$-group of the Leavitt path algebra is isomorphic to the lattice of graded ideals of the algebra. We also investigate the graded monoid for Kumjian--Pask algebras of row-finite $k$-graphs with no sources. We prove that these algebras are graded von Neumann regular rings, and record some structural consequences of this.

The projective Leavitt complex

Let Q be a finite quiver without sources, and A be the corresponding algebra with radical square zero. We construct an explicit compact generator for the homotopy category of acyclic complexes of projective A-modules. We call such a generator the projective Leavitt complex of Q. This terminology is justified by the following result: the opposite differential graded endomorphism algebra of the projective Leavitt complex of Q is quasi-isomorphic to the Leavitt path algebra of Q^{ op}. Here, Q^{op} is the opposite quiver of Q and the Leavitt path algebra of Q^{op} is naturally Z-graded and viewed as a differential graded algebra with trivial differential.

Applications of Balanced Pairs

Let $(\mathscr{X}$, $\mathscr{Y})$ be a balanced pair in an abelian category. We first introduce the notion of cotorsion pairs relative to $(\mathscr{X}$, $\mathscr{Y})$, and then give some equivalent characterizations when a relative cotorsion pair is hereditary or perfect. We prove that if the $\mathscr{X}$-resolution dimension of $\mathscr{Y}$ (resp. $\mathscr{Y}$-coresolution dimension of $\mathscr{X}$) is finite, then the bounded homotopy category of $\mathscr{Y}$ (resp. $\mathscr{X}$) is contained in that of $\mathscr{X}$ (resp. $\mathscr{Y}$). As a consequence, we get that the right $\mathscr{X}$-singularity category coincides with the left $\mathscr{Y}$-singularity category if the $\mathscr{X}$-resolution dimension of $\mathscr{Y}$ and the $\mathscr{Y}$-coresolution dimension of $\mathscr{X}$ are finite.

Relative Singularity Categories

We study the properties of the relative derived category $D_{\mathscr{C}}^{b}$($\mathscr{A}$) of an abelian category $\mathscr{A}$ relative to a full and additive subcategory $\mathscr{C}$. In particular, when $\mathscr{A}=A{\text -}\mod$ for a finite-dimensional algebra $A$ over a field and $\mathscr{C}$ is a contravariantly finite subcategory of $A$-$\mod$ which is admissible and closed under direct summands, the $\mathscr{C}$-singularity category $D_{\mathscr{C}{\text sg}}$($\mathscr{A}$)=$D_{\mathscr{C}}^{b}$($\mathscr{A}$)/$K^{b}(\mathscr{C})$ is studied. We give a sufficient condition when this category is triangulated equivalent to the stable category of the Gorenstein category $\mathscr{G}(\mathscr{C})$ of $\mathscr{C}$.
