Lean-SAM2: Target-Anchored Memory and Encoder Acceleration for SAM2

The Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM2) has advanced temporal promptable segmentation, yet its deployment remains hindered by heavy memory cross-attention overhead and redundant full-frame visual feature extraction. While recent methods explore efficiency via heuristic memory pruning and window-based sparse routing, they typically suffer from catastrophic performance degradation in complex segmentation scenarios replete with occlusions and distractors. To resolve these limitations, we propose \textbf{Lean-SAM2}, a holistic lightweight framework designed to address the above vulnerabilities while systematically eliminating computational redundancies. Specifically, Lean-SAM2 integrates three collaborative mechanisms: (1) Target-Anchored Memory Pruning (TAMP) safeguards target tokens against deceptive attention by modulating raw attention significance with semantic consistency against prompt-derived foreground anchors; (2) Temporal Condensation with Insurance Memory (TCIM) condenses historical context via a visibility-gated fusion while conditionally archiving high-confidence entries in a parallel insurance bank; and (3) Target-Anchored Risk-Aware Routing (TARR) selectively activates the heavy image encoder for target-related windows based on anchor similarity, utilizing a risk-aware fallback policy to trigger full-frame refreshes during volatile transitions. Extensive evaluations across multiple challenging benchmarks demonstrate that Lean-SAM2 establishes a superior balance between accuracy and efficiency. For example, on the LVOSv2 validation dataset, Lean-SAM2 achieves overall inference speedups of $1.412\times$ and $1.417\times$ on the SAM2.1-Large and SAM2.1-Base+, respectively, significantly outperforming Efficient-SAM2 while boosting the corresponding $\mathcal{J}\&\mathcal{F}$ scores by $5.0\%$ and $3.6\%$. KVSlimmer: Theoretical Insights and Practical Optimizations for Asymmetric KV Merging

The growing computational and memory demands of the Key-Value (KV) cache significantly limit the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs). While KV merging has emerged as a promising solution, existing methods that rely on empirical observations of KV asymmetry and gradient-based Hessian approximations lack a theoretical foundation and incur suboptimal compression and inference overhead. To bridge these gaps, we establish a theoretical framework that characterizes this asymmetry through the spectral energy distribution of projection weights, demonstrating that concentrated spectra in Query/Key weights induce feature homogeneity, whereas dispersed spectra in Value weights preserve heterogeneity. Then, we introduce KVSlimmer, an efficient algorithm that captures exact Hessian information through a mathematically exact formulation, and derives a closed-form solution utilizing only forward-pass variables, resulting in a gradient-free approach that is both memory- and time-efficient. Extensive experiments across various models and benchmarks demonstrate that KVSlimmer consistently outperforms SOTA methods. For instance, on Llama3.1-8B-Instruct, it improves the LongBench average score by 0.92 while reducing memory costs and latency by 29% and 28%, respectively.Code is available at https://github.com/lianjunl13-sudo/KVSlimmer.

Expose Camouflage in the Water: Underwater Camouflaged Instance Segmentation and Dataset

With the development of underwater exploration and marine protection, underwater vision tasks are widespread. Due to the degraded underwater environment, characterized by color distortion, low contrast, and blurring, camouflaged instance segmentation (CIS) faces greater challenges in accurately segmenting objects that blend closely with their surroundings. Traditional camouflaged instance segmentation methods, trained on terrestrial-dominated datasets with limited underwater samples, may exhibit inadequate performance in underwater scenes. To address these issues, we introduce the first underwater camouflaged instance segmentation (UCIS) dataset, abbreviated as UCIS4K, which comprises 3,953 images of camouflaged marine organisms with instance-level annotations. In addition, we propose an Underwater Camouflaged Instance Segmentation network based on Segment Anything Model (UCIS-SAM). Our UCIS-SAM includes three key modules. First, the Channel Balance Optimization Module (CBOM) enhances channel characteristics to improve underwater feature learning, effectively addressing the model's limited understanding of underwater environments. Second, the Frequency Domain True Integration Module (FDTIM) is proposed to emphasize intrinsic object features and reduce interference from camouflage patterns, enhancing the segmentation performance of camouflaged objects blending with their surroundings. Finally, the Multi-scale Feature Frequency Aggregation Module (MFFAM) is designed to strengthen the boundaries of low-contrast camouflaged instances across multiple frequency bands, improving the model's ability to achieve more precise segmentation of camouflaged objects. Extensive experiments on the proposed UCIS4K and public benchmarks show that our UCIS-SAM outperforms state-of-the-art approaches.

SDE-DET: A Precision Network for Shatian Pomelo Detection in Complex Orchard Environments

Pomelo detection is an essential process for their localization, automated robotic harvesting, and maturity analysis. However, detecting Shatian pomelo in complex orchard environments poses significant challenges, including multi-scale issues, obstructions from trunks and leaves, small object detection, etc. To address these issues, this study constructs a custom dataset STP-AgriData and proposes the SDE-DET model for Shatian pomelo detection. SDE-DET first utilizes the Star Block to effectively acquire high-dimensional information without increasing the computational overhead. Furthermore, the presented model adopts Deformable Attention in its backbone, to enhance its ability to detect pomelos under occluded conditions. Finally, multiple Efficient Multi-Scale Attention mechanisms are integrated into our model to reduce the computational overhead and extract deep visual representations, thereby improving the capacity for small object detection. In the experiment, we compared SDE-DET with the Yolo series and other mainstream detection models in Shatian pomelo detection. The presented SDE-DET model achieved scores of 0.883, 0.771, 0.838, 0.497, and 0.823 in Precision, Recall, mAP@0.5, mAP@0.5:0.95 and F1-score, respectively. SDE-DET has achieved state-of-the-art performance on the STP-AgriData dataset. Experiments indicate that the SDE-DET provides a reliable method for Shatian pomelo detection, laying the foundation for the further development of automatic harvest robots.
