Topological fine structure of an energy band

A band with a nonzero Chern number cannot be fully localized by weak disorder. There must remain at least one extended state, which ``carries the Chern number.'' Here we show that a trivial band can behave in a similar way. Instead of fully localizing, arbitrarily weak disorder leads to the emergence of two sets of extended states, positioned at two different energy intervals, which carry opposite Chern numbers. Thus, a single trivial band can show the same behavior as two separate Chern bands. We show that this property is predicted by a topological invariant called a ``localizer index.'' Even though the band as a whole is trivial as far as the Chern number is concerned, the localizer index allows access to a topological fine structure. This index changes as a function of energy within the bandwidth of the trivial band, causing nontrivial extended states to appear as soon as disorder is introduced. Our work points to a previously overlooked manifestation of topology, which impacts the response of systems to impurities beyond the information included in conventional topological invariants.

Dynamic Topological Light Control in Reconfigurable Non-Hermitian Metastacks

Metasurfaces often require complex lithography for dynamic optical control. To overcome this, we utilize a lithography-free, non-Hermitian planar metastack comprising a distributed Bragg reflector and a vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin film. By virtue of temperature and thermal hysteresis as an active synthetic dimension and exploiting the VO2 insulator-to-metal transition, we actively tune topological interface states to achieve polarization-sensitive spectral control. Notably, our system hosts path-dependent exceptional points (EPs); the intermediate hysteretic states generate a continuum of hot and cold EP pairs that ultimately converge into a single, degenerate EP. Furthermore, we experimentally observe wide-range dynamic optical control, comprising reversible 8% spectral shifts with near-unity reflectance modulation, alongside potential for ultrafast dynamics. Ultimately, our CMOS-compatible design provides a scalable, simple platform for active and topological photonics.

Floquet topological phases with time-reversal and space inversion symmetries and dynamical detection of topological charges

For spinful systems with spin 1/2, it is generally believed that P and T invariant strong and second-order topologies exist in four band and eight band system, respectively. Here, by using periodic driving, we find it is possible to have strong topological insulator, second-order topological insulator and hybrid-order topological insulator in a single four band system. Furthermore, we established a direct connection between topology and dynamics. More convenient experimental detection for these topological phases has also been proposed. This study provides the theoretical basis for novel topological insulator that possess hybrid-order boundary states beyond the conventional regimes.

Uniform large deviations and long-time dynamics for the 2D anisotropic Navier-Stokes equations on the torus

We study the two-dimensional stochastic Navier-Stokes equations on the torus with horizontal dissipation and additive noise. First, we prove a uniform large deviation principle for the solution paths in the energy space $C([0,T];H).$ The proof combines a large deviation principle for a linear Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, a new Lipschitz estimate for the nonlinear map, and a contraction principle that avoids any exponential tightness condition. Second, we analyse the long-time dynamics. By exhibiting a deterministic steady state immune to the horizontal dissipation, we show that exponential mixing cannot hold. Finally, we investigate the invariant measures of the system. In the deterministic case, the infinite-dimensional kernel of the horizontal Laplacian contains infinitely many Dirac invariant measures. Under a suitably degenerate noise, however, the kernel supports no invariant measure at all; moreover, any invariant measure of this stochastic system, should it exist, must be orthogonal to this kernel. This sharply distinguishes the anisotropic equations on the torus both from the fully dissipative Navier-Stokes equations and from their counterparts on domains with no-slip boundaries.

Topological Quantum Interferometry

Structured light provides high-dimensional Hilbert spaces holding tremendous potential for fundamental quantum optics and quantum technologies. However, existing characterization methods, like Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interference, typically assume perfectly tuned conditions, overlooking the geometric physics governing spatial mode evolution. Here, we establish topological quantum interferometry driven by an interaction-based geometric phase, the exchange Berry phase (BPX). Our formalism generalizes $q$-plate state generation and characterization to arbitrary topological charges and (de)tuning conditions, demonstrating that BPX acts as a geometric marker governing spatial interference. We show BPX serves as a deterministic control parameter, decomposing two-photon spatial patterns into geometry-dictated fundamental modes. This mapping reveals topological invariants and phase singularities that function as a non-tomographic witness for state dimensionality estimation, circumventing full-state reconstruction. Being device-independent and highly scalable, this approach enables scalable high-dimensional characterization and topologically protected state selection, with direct applicability to quantum metrology and high-capacity quantum networks.

Magnifying What Matters: Attention-Guided Adaptive Rendering for Visual Text Comprehension

Visual Text Comprehension (VTC) renders text into images for a vision-language model (VLM) to read, sidestepping LLM context-window limits and powering applications from long-page OCR to multi-page memory QA. Yet existing VTC pipelines treat rendering and layout as a fixed, content-agnostic preprocessing step and offer little mechanistic understanding of how VLMs internally process visualized text. Through a focused empirical study on VTC QA tasks, we reveal that VLMs exhibit a localization-without-utilization regime: evidence-localizing attention emerges sharply in the middle-to-late layers and is largely decoupled from answer correctness, yet simply enlarging the localized spans on the rendered page recovers a large fraction of the failures. Building on these observations, we propose AGAR (Attention-Guided Adaptive Rendering), a training-free, model-agnostic method that leverages a VLM's own middle-to-late layer attention to identify the top-K important visual patches, maps them back to word spans, and re-renders the page with those spans enlarged before re-inferring the answer. Extensive experiments across nine VTC benchmarks (short-form, long-context, and multi-page memory QA) and four VLM backbones show that AGAR (i)consistently improves off-the-shelf VLMs as a plug-and-play enhancement, (ii)composes with VLM post-training to yield further gains, and (iii)remains robust under both visual- and text-side input degradation.

Baichuan-M4: A Clinical-Grade Medical Agent System for Continuous Care

Baichuan-M4 is Baichuan Intelligence's clinical-grade medical large model, designed for continuous care rather than single-turn medical question answering. It is built as a coordinated medical agent system around three pillars: Baichuan-Harness, a unified runtime that keeps reinforcement-learning training and real-world deployment consistent while enforcing action constraints, tool use, long-term patient memory, and multi-agent coordination; a core reasoning model trained with a continuous-care reinforcement-learning framework that integrates span-level reward modeling (SPAR++), reasoning-path compression, curriculum learning, and stabilized policy optimization; and a clinical tool layer for patient-memory management, authoritative evidence-based retrieval, and multimodal medical perception across documents, X-rays, and dermatology. On a cross-dimensional medical evaluation suite, Baichuan-M4 attains leading results in static medical knowledge and safety, dynamic OSCE-style consultation, long-context clinical memory, evidence-based retrieval, medical document OCR, and multimodal image understanding, while lowering the hallucination rate to 3.3%.

From Custom Logic to APIs: Understanding and Recommending API Replacement Refactorings

Software refactoring is essential for maintaining code quality. However, API replacement refactoring, which replaces custom logic with API calls, remains underexplored. Existing refactoring tools provide limited support for detecting such opportunities because they rely on predefined templates and have difficulty capturing complex, multi-statement semantic equivalents. To address this limitation, we conduct the first empirical study of API replacement refactorings by mining 166,299 commits across six open-source Java projects and manually analyzing a curated subset of 1,800 commits, from which we identify 366 validated instances to characterize their scope, categories, and recurring patterns. Based on these insights, we propose AKIRA (Adaptive Knowledge Discovery and Retrieval), a hybrid framework that integrates pattern-deterministic heuristics with a refactoring-aware knowledge base to assess the practical feasibility of recommending API replacement refactorings. Our evaluation shows that AKIRA achieves 90% recall and 88% precision on a manually curated dataset. Furthermore, on the external RETIWA dataset, AKIRA significantly improves the state of the art by increasing recall from 21% to 81% and precision from 40% to 78%. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of combining static pattern matching with semantic reasoning to support the automation of recommending complex API replacement refactorings.

Hyperon-Nucleon Spectrometer

Chirality lies at the heart of low-energy QCD, governing the symmetry structure that shapes hadron masses and strong interaction dynamics. Among the most compelling open questions tied to chiral dynamics and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking is the longstanding $Λ$ polarization puzzle, in which $Λ$ hyperons produced in unpolarized hadronic collisions exhibit a surprisingly large transverse polarization that remains theoretically unexplained. This whitepaper presents the proposal for the Hyperon-Nucleon Spectrometer (H-NS) at the High-Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF). Leveraging the high energy and high intensity of HIAF's proton and heavy-ion beams, the H-NS experiment will perform systematic studies of hyperon polarization phenomena and their underlying mechanisms in proton-proton ($pp$), proton-nucleus ($pA$), and nucleus-nucleus ($AA$) collisions in the fixed target mode. A wide-range beam energy scan, including proton beams from 3 GeV up to 9.3 GeV (HIAF) and up to 32 GeV (upgraded HIAF), will be conducted to examine the dependence of polarization on collision energy. The spectrometer is designed with specialized detectors capable of high-precision reconstruction of final-state baryon polarizations. Among its many interesting and important measurements, H-NS will simultaneously measure hyperon and proton spin observables to explore the polarization mechanism in hadronic interactions and the spin structure of baryons. Furthermore, the use of $pA$ and $AA$ collisions will enable detailed investigations of cold and hot nuclear matter effects on spin polarization. Its physics program and detector development will significantly benefit the future Electron-ion Collider in China.

Deep Learning with Magnetic Parameter Constraints for Short-Term Prediction of Solar Active Region Vector Magnetic Fields

Forecasting the dynamic evolution of solar magnetic fields is a critical technique for enabling space weather warnings. Addressing the limitations of existing methods in predicting all vector magnetic field components and in maintaining consistency with solar surface magnetic-field-related quantities, this study proposes a deep learning prediction method that integrates dynamic masks of active regions with multiple magnetic parameter constraints. By constructing a three-channel representation of vector magnetic fields, applying dynamic masks to enhance attention to strong-field regions, and incorporating multi-parameter magnetic parameter constraints, we developed an end-to-end short-term (12-hour) predictive model of solar vector magnetic field evolution. Using SDO/SHARP vector magnetogram data, the model predicts and analyses field evolution across all components. Quantitative evaluations demonstrate that our approach achieves horizon-averaged structural similarity index measure (SSIM) of 0.912 (per-hour range: 0.909--0.916) and correlation coefficient (CC) of 0.998 for the radial component Br (root-mean-square error (RMSE) 13.0--21.0 G); the horizontal components achieve Bphi SSIM 0.760--0.800 (CC 0.910--0.945, RMSE 38.5--50.0 G) and Btheta SSIM 0.728--0.750 (CC 0.895--0.920, RMSE 38.5--49.0 G). The model maintains unsigned magnetic flux prediction errors at 7.82% (95% confidence interval (CI): +/-0.11%). These results demonstrate strong image-domain performance together with consistency under the magnetic-parameter diagnostics used here, suggesting initial potential for supporting future space weather forecasting efforts.

DSL-LLaDA: Scaling Continuous Denoising to 8B Masked Diffusion LMs

Discrete Masked diffusion language models generate text by iterative parallel decoding, but few-step decoding suffers from a tradeoff between length and quality: with a fixed step budget, standard methods can generate a short, high-quality output, or they can produce long but repetitive text. Continuous denoising can sidestep this tradeoff by evolving all positions jointly in embedding space, but building such a model from scratch at scale remains an open problem. We show that a pretrained masked DLM can instead be lightly adapted to support continuous embedding-space denoising. Starting from LLaDA-8B-Instruct, we continue-pretrain for only 1,000 steps with Discrete Stochastic Localization (DSL), replacing binary masking with continuous per-token Gaussian noise as a soft mask. The adapted model supports continuous inference that evolves all positions jointly in embedding space and defers hard token commitment to the final step. On zero-shot summarization at low step budgets (<=16 forward passes), DSL-LLaDA-SDE achieves the best ROUGE-1 on all four benchmarks and largely avoids the premature-termination / repetition tradeoff of iterative unmasking. The same adaptation also yields selective noisy-state robustness: the model corrects corrupted tokens while preserving clean ones. Control experiments using standard masked diffusion training with the same compute demonstrate neither behavior.

Revise, Don't Freeze: Sampler-Matched Training for Self-Correcting Masked Diffusion Language Models

Masked diffusion language models (MDLMs) re-predict every position at each denoising step, but standard samplers commit tokens once revealed, leaving this revision capability unused. Existing approaches either add heuristic or learned mechanisms to revise committed tokens, or remask them back to [MASK] before re-predicting; a principled sampler that directly revises visible tokens without auxiliary modules remains underexplored. We introduce D3IM, a parameter-free sampler derived as a corrector-style reverse update that permits direct visible-to-visible revision without additional modules or auxiliary passes. D3IM also reveals a model-side obstacle we term preservation bias: the model tends to reproduce its own wrong committed tokens rather than correct them. We address this with SCOPE (Self-Conditioned On Prediction Errors), a lightweight post-training procedure that simulates D3IM's sampling process. On LLaDA-8B at 64 denoising steps, SCOPE+D3IM improves over the original LLaDA-8B with standard unmasking by +13.0 on GSM8K (68.3%), +4.8 on MATH-500 (23.6%), +15.3 on HumanEval (29.3%), and +10.4 on MBPP (30.8%), with gains that increase as more denoising steps are used on math and HumanEval.

Exposing Vulnerabilities in Explanation for Time Series Classifiers via Dual-Target Attacks

Interpretable time series deep learning systems are often assessed by checking temporal consistency on explanations, implicitly treating this as evidence of robustness. We show that this assumption can fail: Predictions and explanations can be adversarially decoupled, enabling targeted misclassification while the explanation remains plausible and consistent with a chosen reference rationale. We propose TSEF (Time Series Explanation Fooler), a dual-target attack that jointly manipulates the classifier and explainer outputs. In contrast to single-objective misclassification attacks that disrupt explanation and spread attribution mass broadly, TSEF achieves targeted prediction changes while keeping explanations consistent with the reference. Across multiple datasets and explainer backbones, our results consistently reveal that explanation stability is a misleading proxy for decision robustness and motivate coupling-aware robustness evaluations for trustworthy time series tasks.

Graph Machine Learning in the Era of Large Language Models (LLMs)

Graphs play an important role in representing complex relationships in various domains like social networks, knowledge graphs, and molecular discovery. With the advent of deep learning, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have emerged as a cornerstone in Graph Machine Learning (Graph ML), facilitating the representation and processing of graphs. Recently, LLMs have demonstrated unprecedented capabilities in language tasks and are widely adopted in a variety of applications such as computer vision and recommender systems. This remarkable success has also attracted interest in applying LLMs to the graph domain. Increasing efforts have been made to explore the potential of LLMs in advancing Graph ML's generalization, transferability, and few-shot learning ability. Meanwhile, graphs, especially knowledge graphs, are rich in reliable factual knowledge, which can be utilized to enhance the reasoning capabilities of LLMs and potentially alleviate their limitations such as hallucinations and the lack of explainability. Given the rapid progress of this research direction, a systematic review summarizing the latest advancements for Graph ML in the era of LLMs is necessary to provide an in-depth understanding to researchers and practitioners. Therefore, in this survey, we first review the recent developments in Graph ML. We then explore how LLMs can be utilized to enhance the quality of graph features, alleviate the reliance on labeled data, and address challenges such as graph Heterophily and out-of-distribution (OOD) generalization. Afterward, we delve into how graphs can enhance LLMs, highlighting their abilities to enhance LLM pre-training and inference. Furthermore, we investigate various applications and discuss the potential future directions in this promising field.

An Obscured Tidal Disruption Event Uncovered by Its Mid- and Near-Infrared Dust Echo in a Star-Forming Galaxy

We present a comprehensive study of an infrared (IR) flare in the star-forming galaxy SDSS J010320.39+140152.5, which is selected from the sample of mid-IR (MIR) outbursts in nearby galaxies (MIRONG). Its MIR luminosity rose rapidly to a peak of $\sim5.4\times10^{43}$ \lum, maintained in the high state for about a year, and decreased continuously afterward. No optical variability was detected throughout the IR flare. Near-IR follow-up observations around the peak pinpointed the flare's location to spatially coincide with the galactic nucleus, with a $3σ$ upper limit of the offset of $\lesssim100$ pc. The IR spectral energy distribution (SED) of the flare is consistent with thermal emission of dust with temperatures of $\sim900$ K. Using a dust radiative transfer model, we inferred a peak UV luminosity of $\sim(4-10)\times10^{44}$ erg s$^{-1}$ and a total energy of $\sim(0.9-2)\times10^{52}$ ergs released. We ruled out the possibility of a supernova, and prefer that the IR flare originated from an obscured tidal disruption event (TDE) rather than a changing-look active galactic nucleus (AGN). This flare stands as one of the most compelling cases to date for the emerging class of dust-obscured TDEs in recent years. They are missed by optical surveys, partly accounting for the observed bias in TDE host galaxies, and represent a crucial, yet often overlooked, component for a complete understanding of the TDE population.

GFSR: Geometric Fidelity and Spatial Refinement for Reliable Lane Detection

Lane detection stands as a crucial perception task in autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems. However, existing methods still degrade in complex real scenarios due to two major limitations. First, classification confidence only characterizes the categorical existence of lane priors and has no strong correlation with geometric quality. If threshold filtering and NMS are conducted merely based on this confidence, the model tends to retain lane priors with high confidence while eliminating those with lower confidence but superior geometric representation. Secondly, the regression modules in existing methods weaken correlations among sampling points, hindering fine-grained optimization of distant, high-curvature and complex-topology lanes and causing underfitting. To address these issues, we propose Geometric Fidelity and Spatial Refinement (GFSR), a framework consisting of LaneIoU-guided Confidence Calibration (LCC) and Adaptive Gated Location Refinement (AGLR). Specifically, LCC adopts LaneIoU as soft supervision to explicitly estimate the geometric fidelity of lane priors, which is further fused with classification confidence to construct the Collaborative Reliability Index (CRI). This index guides lane prior filtering, effectively retaining those with high classification confidence and favorable geometric quality. Meanwhile, cooperating with regression heads in each refinement stage, AGLR predicts sampling point lateral offsets and adopts a gating mechanism to adaptively regulate correction magnitude, strengthen inter-point correlations and boost model adaptability as well as robustness toward complex lane scenarios. Extensive experiments on CULane and CurveLanes demonstrate that our GFSR achieves state-of-the-art performance on CULane, with F1_50 and F1_75 scores of 81.46% and 65.01%, and reaches 87.35% F1_50 on CurveLanes.

Topological Order and Non-Hermitian Skin Effect in Generalized Ideal Chern Bands

Fractionalization in ideal Chern bands and non-Hermitian topological physics are two active but so far separate research directions. Merging these, we generalize the notion of ideal Chern bands to the non-Hermitian realm and uncover several striking consequences both on the level of band theory and in the strongly interacting regime. Specifically, we show that the lowest band of a Kapit--Mueller lattice model with an imaginary gauge potential satisfies a generalized ideal condition with complex Berry curvature in sync with a complex quantum metric. The ideal band remains purely real and exactly flat on both the torus and cylinder: eigenstates are extended on the torus, while on the cylinder all right and left eigenstates localize at the boundaries, yielding a non-Hermitian skin effect without spectral winding. In the interacting regime, we find that the generalized ideal condition stabilizes an incompressible liquid at fractional fillings, retaining intrinsic non-Hermitian features on both cylinder and torus, while strikingly distinct on different manifolds. On the cylinder, the ground states are always skin-Laughlin states. In contrast, on the torus, we instead observe an unconventional competition between topologically ordered Laughlin-like states and negative collective modes, arising purely from non-Hermiticity.

SCRWKV: Ultra-Compact Structure-Calibrated Vision-RWKV for Topological Crack Segmentation

Achieving pixel-level accurate segmentation of structural cracks across diverse scenarios remains a formidable challenge. Existing methods face significant bottlenecks in balancing crack topology modeling with computational efficiency, often failing to reconcile high segmentation quality with low resource demands. To address these limitations, we propose the Ultra-Compact Structure-Calibrated Vision RWKV (SCRWKV), a network that achieves high-precision modeling via a novel Structure-Field Encoder (SFE) backbone while maintaining linear complexity. The SFE integrates the Adaptive Multi-scale Cascaded Modulator (AMCM) to enhance texture representation and utilizes the Structure-Calibrated Insight Unit (SCIU) as its core engine. Specifically, the SCIU employs the Geometry-guided Bidirectional Structure Transformation (GBST) to capture topological correlations and integrates the Dynamic Self-Calibrating Decay (DSCD) into Dy-WKV to suppress noise propagation. Furthermore, we introduce a lightweight Cross-Scale Harmonic Fusion (CSHF) decoder to achieve precise feature aggregation. Systematic evaluations on multiple benchmarks characterized by complex textures and severe interference demonstrate that SCRWKV, with only 1.22M parameters, significantly outperforms SOTA methods. Achieving an F1 score of 0.8428 and mIoU of 0.8512 on the TUT dataset, the model confirms its robust potential for efficient real-world deployment. The code is available at https://github.com/zhxhzy/SCRWKV.
