The Pan-Pacific Planet Search -- IX. A menagerie of companions orbiting evolved stars

We present resolutions as to the nature of six speculative candidate companions proposed in the final data release of the Pan-Pacific Planet Search, a 6-year radial-velocity survey of 164 southern evolved stars using the now-decommissioned UCLES spectrograph on the 3.9m Anglo-Australian Telescope. New radial-velocity observations, TESS asteroseismology, and Hipparcos-Gaia astrometry are incorporated to refine the companion and host-star parameters. We confirm that HD 126105b is a giant planet ($P=524.0\pm$2.9 d, $m$ sin $i=1.67^{+0.19}_{-0.17}M_{Jup}$), and that HD 205577B is a massive, eccentric brown dwarf ($P\sim$11.2 yr, $m=77^{+11}_{-9}M_{Jup}$, $e=0.68$). HD 115066B and HD 121156B are low-mass stellar companions, while HD 114899 and HD 159743 are shown to be unadorned by any detectable companions whatsoever. This demonstrates the utility of astrometric information to help overcome the temporal limitations of incomplete radial-velocity data sets and elucidate the true nature of suspected companion bodies.

A Unified and Reproducible Experimentation Framework for Speech Understanding

Speech foundation models and Speech LLMs have advanced speech understanding, yet deployment-oriented model selection is hindered by non-comparable evaluations caused by mismatched post-processing, and by training results that are hard to reproduce across data scales and pipelines. We present SURE, a unified experimentation framework that standardizes prediction formats, normalization, and scoring. SURE evaluates strong systems across paradigms, from conventional pipelines to Speech LLMs, on representative tasks under realistic acoustic and linguistic stressors. Beyond evaluation, SURE introduces an agent-assisted training conversion flow that maps paper and code into versioned, runnable training pipelines under a unified protocol on matched open-data subsets. Overall, SURE improves comparability and reproducibility for deployment-oriented evaluation.

When Brains Disagree: Biological Ambiguity Underlies the Challenge of Amyloid PET Synthesis from Structural MRI

Structural MRI-to-amyloid PET synthesis has been proposed as a non-invasive alternative for amyloid assessment in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, reported performance of identical models varies widely across studies, and increasingly complex architectures have not led to consistent gains. This inconsistency is thought to be caused by a fundamental biological ambiguity: MRI captures neurodegeneration, while PET measures amyloid pathology - two processes that are often temporally decoupled in AD. As a result, similar MRI patterns may correspond to different amyloid states, creating ambiguous one-to-many mappings. MRI-to-amyloid PET synthesis may therefore be intrinsically ill-posed; however, this idea has yet to be tested scientifically. The aim of this work is to test this hypothesis through two controlled experiments. We first control the training distribution by stratifying paired MRI-PET data by amyloid and neurodegeneration status. Using two standard synthesis models under a controlled design, we show that biologically unambiguous mappings are learnable in isolation, but performance collapses when data ambiguity is introduced. This demonstrates that ambiguity in the data distribution, rather than architectural capacity, constrains performance. Second, we show that introducing orthogonal biological information in the form of plasma biomarkers resolves this ambiguity. When multimodal inputs are incorporated, performance improves and stability is restored. Together, these findings suggest that limited and inconsistent performance in MRI-to-amyloid PET synthesis is explained by intrinsic biological ambiguity, and that stable, meaningful progress requires multimodal integration rather than architectural complexity.

Towards Active Real-to-Twin Inspection: A New Paradigm for Zero-Shot Anomaly Detection

The deployment of zero-shot anomaly detection (AD) in embodied industrial inspection is severely bottlenecked by its reliance on passive, fixed-viewpoint 2D imagery. Such formulations inherently fail to accommodate the active, dynamic observations required in real-world environments. To break this limitation, we introduce Real-to-Twin Anomaly Detection, a novel task that evaluates physical observations directly against geometrically matched CAD Digital Twins. To tackle this new task, we propose AVATAR, a framework designed to learn robust semantic alignment between Real and Digital Twins. By bridging benign Sim2Real domain gaps using only defect-free pairs, AVATAR effectively transforms CAD priors into dynamic, anomaly-free references. This elegant formulation enables the model to localize diverse anomalies in a zero-shot manner as unalignable deviations, eliminating the need for defect annotations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that AVATAR substantially outperforms adapted state-of-the-art baselines, exhibiting exceptional robustness to severe viewpoint variations. The code and dataset will be made publicly available.

DetMesh-Gadep: Triangulated Surface Modeling and GPU-based Monte Carlo Efficiency Calibration of High-Purity Germanium Detectors

Sourceless efficiency calibration of high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors can provide accurate detector-response information without experiments using radioactive calibration sources, offering advantages in both convenience and safety. In many practical implementations, this process is performed using Monte Carlo simulation; however, its performance is constrained by the accuracy of detector modeling, the operational complexity of simulation frameworks, and the computational-resource requirements associated with CPU-based parallelization. In this study, a complete detector modeling and simulation framework is proposed. The detector modeling program DetMesh can generate triangulated surface geometry from parameterized detector models, providing advantages in the representation of complex geometric boundaries. It incorporates standard geometric operations and a geometric library, and is lightweight with strong extensibility. The generated geometry is then input into Gadep, a GPU-based Monte Carlo computational kernel, to enable rapid simulation. For $1\times 10^8$ particles, a single RTX 4090 achieved a speedup factor of 13.53 compared with simultaneous computation using 60 CPU cores. The proposed framework has low implementation cost and broad applicability, providing a complete solution for refined detector modeling and calibration.

An accurate nucleic acid-small molecule docking framework via geometric deep learning with large-scale pretraining

Nucleic acids are increasingly recognized as therapeutic targets beyond conventional protein-centered drug discovery, yet accurate and efficient docking of small molecules to nucleic acid structures remains challenging. Physics-based docking methods often show limited accuracy and efficiency, whereas deep learning approaches are constrained by the scarcity of experimentally resolved nucleic acid-ligand complexes. Here, we present NucleoDock, a deep learning framework for nucleic acid-small molecule docking. To address data scarcity, NucleoDock combines physics-guided large-scale pretraining on millions of docking-generated synthetic complexes with fine-tuning on curated experimental co-crystal structures. It further integrates sequence- and structure-informed nucleotide representations with atomistic three-dimensional features to capture both biological context and binding-site geometry. A mixture density network-based geometric scoring head is used to model conditional interaction-distance distributions for pose ranking. On an external benchmark of 125 nucleic acid-ligand complexes, NucleoDock achieved a top-1 success rate of 56 percent at an RMSD cutoff of 2.0 Angstrom, outperforming rDock with 29 percent, while generating 100 poses in approximately 5 seconds per complex. Retrospective virtual screening on the ROBIN benchmark further showed improved early enrichment. NucleoDock represents a step toward bridging the methodological gap between protein- and nucleic acid-directed computational drug discovery.

Deep Policy Iteration for High-Dimensional Mean-Field Games with Regenerative Reformulation

This paper develops a deep policy iteration method for high-dimensional finite-horizon mean-field games (MFG). We reformulate the game as a regenerative problem with deterministic cycles, which allows policy evaluation (PE), policy improvement (PI), and population measure estimation to be carried out cycle by cycle. Within this formulation, we approximate the population measure by a particle system and update it using a one-step random mapping induced by the Euler-Maruyama discretization of the state dynamics. This update transports a mini-batch of particles from one cycle to the next, avoiding sequential trajectory simulation over the entire time horizon at each iteration. The PE and PI subproblems are formulated through the relation between consecutive cycles, with adversarial training used for evaluation and averaged optimization used for improvement. The resulting method is efficient and scalable in high dimensions, as it avoids the direct solution of the coupled Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman and Fokker-Planck system, the full simulation of trajectories to estimate the population measure, the explicit computation of conditional expectations in policy evaluation, and pointwise optimization in policy improvement. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed method effectively handles dimensions up to 10,000.

A Versatile AI Agent for Rare Disease Diagnosis and Risk Gene Prioritization

Accurate and timely diagnosis is essential for effective treatment, particularly in the context of rare diseases. However, current diagnostic workflows often lead to prolonged assessment times and low accuracy. To address these limitations, we introduce Hygieia, a multi-modal AI agent system designed to support precision disease diagnosis by integrating diverse data sources, including phenotypic features, genetic profiles, and clinical records. Hygieia features a router-based and knowledge-enhanced framework that mitigates hallucination and tailors diagnostic strategies to different disease categories. Notably, it prioritizes risk-related genomic factors for rare diseases and provides confidence scores to assist clinical decision-making. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation demonstrating that Hygieia achieves state-of-the-art performance across multiple diagnostic benchmarks. In collaboration with clinical experts from Yale School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School, we further validated its practical utility by showing (1) Hygieia's superior diagnostic performance compared to physicians with an improvement from 12%-60% and (2) its effectiveness in assisting clinicians with medical records for handling real-world cases. Our findings indicate that Hygieia not only enhances diagnostic accuracy and interpretability but also significantly reduces clinician workload, highlighting its potential as a valuable tool in clinical decision support systems.

CCCL: Node-Spanning GPU Collectives with CXL Memory Pooling

Large language models (LLMs) training or inference across multiple nodes introduces significant pressure on GPU memory and interconnect bandwidth. The Compute Express Link (CXL) shared memory pool offers a scalable solution by enabling memory sharing across nodes, reducing over-provisioning and improving resource utilization. We propose \name, a collective communication library, leveraging the CXL shared memory pool to support cross-node GPU operations without relying on traditional RDMA-based networking. Our design addresses the challenges on synchronization, data interleaving, and communication parallelization faced by using the CXL shared memory pool for collective communications. Evaluating on multiple nodes with a TITAN-II CXL switch and six Micron CZ120 memory cards, we show that \name achieves highly efficient collective operations across hosts, demonstrating CXL's potential for scalable, memory-centric GPU communication. Our evaluation demonstrates that \name achieves average performance improvements of 1.34$\times$ for AllGather, 1.84$\times$ for Broadcast, 1.94$\times$ for Gather, and 1.04$\times$ for Scatter, compared to the original RDMA-based implementation over 200 Gbps InfiniBand. \textcolor{dong}{In addition, the evaluation with a case of LLM training shows 1.11$\times$ speedup compared with the InfiniBand while saving production cost by $2.75\times$ in hardware.}

Fourier Analysis of Finite Difference Schemes for the Helmholtz Equation in 1D with Dirichlet Conditions: Sharp Estimates and Relative Errors

We consider the Dirichlet problem of the indefinite Helmholtz equation in 1D, $u''+k^2u=f$ in $(0,1)$, $u(0)=g_0$, $u(1)=g_1$, with a constant wavenumber $k\in(0,\infty)\backslashπ\mathbb{N}$ and a source term $f\in H^p_0(0,1)$, $p\ge 4$. We propose an approach based on Fourier analysis to derive wavenumber explicit sharp estimates of absolute and relative errors of \emph{finite difference} methods. Such results have been well known for \emph{finite element} methods (FEM). We use the approach to analyze the classical centered finite difference scheme. For the Fourier interpolants of the discrete solution with homogeneous (or inhomogeneous) Dirichlet conditions, we show rigorously, under the two assumptions $k>20$ and $k(kh)^2/σ_k\le4/(π-2)$ with $σ_k:=\operatorname{dist}(k,π\mathbb{N})$, that the worst case attainable convergence order of the absolute error with $\sum_{p=0}^4k^{-p}\|f^{(p)}\|_{L^2}=O(1)$ (or $|g_i|\asymp k^{-1}$) is $(kh)^2/σ_k^2$ in the $L^2$-norm and $k(kh)^2/σ_k^2$ in the $H^1$-semi-norm, and that of the relative error is $k(kh)^2/σ_k$ in both $L^2$- and $H^1$-semi-norms if $\|u^{(p)}\|_{L^2}/\|u^{(p-2)}\|_{L^2}\asymp k^2$ for $p=2,3$. In particular, the lower bounds of these error estimates are established rigorously in the same orders as the upper bounds, which is the main novelty of this work. We show also that the Fourier analysis approach can be used as a convenient visual tool for evaluating finite difference schemes in presence of source terms, which is beyond the scope of dispersion analysis. The results from the theory and visual analysis are corroborated by numerical experiments.

Dual-LoRA: Parameter-Efficient Adversarial Disentanglement for Cross-Lingual Speaker Verification

Cross-lingual speaker verification suffers from severe language-speaker entanglement. This causes systematic degradation in the hardest scenario: correctly accepting utterances from the same speaker across different languages while rejecting those from different speakers sharing the same language. Standard adversarial disentanglement degrades speaker discriminability; blind discriminators inadvertently penalize speaker-discriminative traits that merely correlate with language. To address this, we propose Dual-LoRA, injecting trainable task-factorized LoRA adapters into a frozen pre-trained backbone. Our core innovation is a Language-Anchored Adversary: by grounding the discriminator with an explicit language branch, adversarial gradients target true linguistic cues rather than arbitrary correlations, preserving essential speaker characteristics. Evaluated on the TidyVoice benchmark, our system achieves a 0.91% validation EER and achieves 3rd place in the official challenge.

COMMA: Coordinate-aware Modulated Mamba Network for 3D Dispersed Vessel Segmentation

Accurate segmentation of 3D vascular structures is essential for various medical imaging applications. The dispersed nature of vascular structures leads to inherent spatial uncertainty and necessitates location awareness, yet most current 3D medical segmentation models rely on the patch-wise training strategy that usually loses this spatial context. In this study, we introduce the Coordinate-aware Modulated Mamba Network (COMMA) and contribute a manually labeled dataset of 570 cases, the largest publicly available 3D vessel dataset to date. COMMA leverages both entire and cropped patch data through global and local branches, ensuring robust and efficient spatial location awareness. Specifically, COMMA employs a channel-compressed Mamba (ccMamba) block to encode entire image data, capturing long-range dependencies while optimizing computational costs. Additionally, we propose a coordinate-aware modulated (CaM) block to enhance interactions between the global and local branches, allowing the local branch to better perceive spatial information. We evaluate COMMA on six datasets, covering two imaging modalities and five types of vascular tissues. The results demonstrate COMMA's superior performance compared to state-of-the-art methods with computational efficiency, especially in segmenting small vessels. Ablation studies further highlight the importance of our proposed modules and spatial information. The code and data will be open source at https://github.com/shigen-StoneRoot/COMMA.

Efficient Generation of Neutrons Based on Ultrashort Laser-driven Direct Acceleration in Microwire-Array Targets

We report on an experimental demonstration of efficient neutron generation based on direct laser acceleration in microwire-array targets irradiated by ultrashort (tens of femtoseconds) laser pulses. The optimal array period was identified, at which the maximum proton energy and the number of protons with energies exceeding $1~\mathrm{MeV}$ were significantly increased. Using a $1~\mathrm{PW}$, $\sim25~\mathrm{fs}$ laser at a moderate intensity of $\sim10^{20}~\mathrm{W/cm^2}$, a high neutron yield of up to $(8.33\pm0.84)\times10^{6}~\mathrm{n/sr/J}$ was detected from the LiD converter via $^7\mathrm{Li}(p,n)$ and $\mathrm{D}(p,n+p)$ nuclear reactions. Self-consistent integrated simulations reproduced the experimental results and predicted that with a Be converter, a forward pulsed neutron source with an unprecedented yield per joule of $3.67\times10^{7}~\mathrm{n/sr/J}$ can be obtained under identical laser conditions. This type of neutron source is favorable for applications that require a high repetition rate utilizing compact and economical laser systems.

NimbleReg: A light-weight deep-learning framework for diffeomorphic image registration

This paper presents NimbleReg, a light-weight deep-learning (DL) framework for diffeomorphic image registration leveraging surface representation of multiple segmented anatomical regions. Deep learning has revolutionized image registration but most methods typically rely on cumbersome gridded representations, leading to hardware-intensive models. Reliable fine-grained segmentations, that are now accessible at low cost, are often used to guide the alignment. Light-weight methods representing segmentations in terms of boundary surfaces have been proposed, but they lack mechanism to support the fusion of multiple regional mappings into an overall diffeomorphic transformation. Building on these advances, we propose a DL registration method capable of aligning surfaces from multiple segmented regions to generate an overall diffeomorphic transformation for the whole ambient space. The proposed model is light-weight thanks to a PointNet backbone. Diffeomoprhic properties are guaranteed by taking advantage of the stationary velocity field parametrization of diffeomorphisms. We demonstrate that this approach achieves alignment comparable to state-of-the-art DL-based registration techniques that consume images.

EgoLive: A Large-Scale Egocentric Dataset from Real-World Human Tasks

The advancement of robot learning is currently hindered by the scarcity of large-scale, high-quality datasets. While established data collection methods such as teleoperation and universal manipulation interfaces dominate current datasets, they suffer from inherent limitations in scalability and real-world deployability. Human egocentric video collection, by contrast, has emerged as a promising approach to enable scalable, natural and in-the-wild data collection. As such, we present EgoLive, a large-scale, high-quality egocentric dataset designed explicitly for robot manipulation learning. EgoLive establishes three distinctive technical advantages over existing egocentric datasets: first, it represents the largest open-source annotated egocentric dataset focused on real-world task-oriented human routines to date; second, it delivers leading data quality via a customized head-mounted capture device and comprehensive high-precision multi-modal annotations; third, all data is collected exclusively in unconstrained real-world scenarios and encompasses vertical field human working data, including home service, retail, and other practical work scenarios, providing superior diversity and ecological validity. With the introduction of EgoLive, we aim to provide the research community with a scalable, high-quality dataset that accelerates breakthroughs in generalizable robotic models and facilitates the real-world deployment of robot systems.

Unramified Brauer groups of symmetric products and the Brauer-Manin obstructions

This article focuses on smooth, projective, and geometrically integral varieties $X$ defined over a number field $k$ with torsion-free geometric Picard groups. We establish an isomorphism between the Brauer groups of $X$ and its symmetric products. As applications, we deduce the relationship between the Brauer--Manin obstruction to the Hasse principle and to weak approximation for $0$-cycles of degree $n$ on $X$ and the corresponding obstruction for rational points on smooth projective models of its $n$-fold symmetric product.

Wisdom is Knowing What not to Say: Hallucination-Free LLMs Unlearning via Attention Shifting

The increase in computing power and the necessity of AI-assisted decision-making boost the growing application of large language models (LLMs). Along with this, the potential retention of sensitive data of LLMs has spurred increasing research into machine unlearning. However, existing unlearning approaches face a critical dilemma: Aggressive unlearning compromises model utility, while conservative strategies preserve utility but risk hallucinated responses. This significantly limits LLMs' reliability in knowledge-intensive applications. To address this, we introduce a novel Attention-Shifting (AS) framework for selective unlearning. AS is driven by two design objectives: (1) context-preserving suppression that attenuates attention to fact-bearing tokens without disrupting LLMs' linguistic structure; and (2) hallucination-resistant response shaping that discourages fabricated completions when queried about unlearning content. AS realizes these objectives through two attention-level interventions, which are importance-aware suppression applied to the unlearning set to reduce reliance on memorized knowledge and attention-guided retention enhancement that reinforces attention toward semantically essential tokens in the retained dataset to mitigate unintended degradation. These two components are jointly optimized via a dual-loss objective, which forms a soft boundary that localizes unlearning while preserving unrelated knowledge under representation superposition. Experimental results show that AS improves performance preservation over the state-of-the-art unlearning methods, achieving up to 15% higher accuracy on the ToFU benchmark and 10% on the TDEC benchmark, while maintaining competitive hallucination-free unlearning effectiveness. Compared to existing methods, AS demonstrates a superior balance between unlearning effectiveness, generalization, and response reliability.
