Secure Rate-Splitting Multiple Access Transmissions in LMS Systems

This letter investigates the secure delivery performance of the rate-splitting multiple access scheme in land mobile satellite (LMS) systems, considering that the private messages intended by a terminal can be eavesdropped by any others from the broadcast signals. Specifically, the considered system has an N-antenna satellite and numerous single-antenna land users. Maximum ratio transmission (MRT) and matched-filtering (MF) precoding techniques are adopted at the satellite separately for the common messages (CMs) and for the private messages (PMs), which are both implemented based on the estimated LMS channels suffering from the Shadowed-Rician fading. Then, closed-form expressions are derived for the ergodic rates for decoding the CM, and for decoding the PM at the intended user respectively, and more importantly, we also derive the ergodic secrecy rate against eavesdropping. Finally, numerical results are provided to validate the correctness of the proposed analysis models, as well as to show some interesting comparisons.

Memory efficient location recommendation through proximity-aware representation

Sequential location recommendation plays a huge role in modern life, which can enhance user experience, bring more profit to businesses and assist in government administration. Although methods for location recommendation have evolved significantly thanks to the development of recommendation systems, there is still limited utilization of geographic information, along with the ongoing challenge of addressing data sparsity. In response, we introduce a Proximity-aware based region representation for Sequential Recommendation (PASR for short), built upon the Self-Attention Network architecture. We tackle the sparsity issue through a novel loss function employing importance sampling, which emphasizes informative negative samples during optimization. Moreover, PASR enhances the integration of geographic information by employing a self-attention-based geography encoder to the hierarchical grid and proximity grid at each GPS point. To further leverage geographic information, we utilize the proximity-aware negative samplers to enhance the quality of negative samples. We conducted evaluations using three real-world Location-Based Social Networking (LBSN) datasets, demonstrating that PASR surpasses state-of-the-art sequential location recommendation methods

Detecting multipartite entanglement via complete orthogonal basis

We study genuine tripartite entanglement and multipartite entanglement in arbitrary $n$-partite quantum systems based on complete orthogonal basis (COB). While the usual Bloch representation of a density matrix uses three types of generators, the density matrix with COB operators has one uniformed type of generators which may simplify related computations. We take the advantage of this simplicity to derive useful and operational criteria to detect genuine tripartite entanglement and multipartite entanglement. We first convert the general states to simpler forms by using the relationship between general symmetric informationally complete measurements and COB. Then we derive an operational criteria to detect genuine tripartite entanglement. We study multipartite entanglement in arbitrary dimensional multipartite systems. By providing detailed examples, we demonstrate that our criteria can detect more genuine entangled and multipartite entangled states than the previously existing criteria.

Improved tests of genuine entanglement for multiqudits

We give an improved criterion of genuine multipartite entanglement for an important class of multipartite quantum states using generalized Bloch representations of the density matrices. The practical criterion is designed based on the Weyl operators and can be used for detecting genuine multipartite entanglement in higher dimensional systems. The test is shown to be significantly stronger than some of the most recent criteria.

Cognition-Mode Aware Variational Representation Learning Framework for Knowledge Tracing

The Knowledge Tracing (KT) task plays a crucial role in personalized learning, and its purpose is to predict student responses based on their historical practice behavior sequence. However, the KT task suffers from data sparsity, which makes it challenging to learn robust representations for students with few practice records and increases the risk of model overfitting. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a Cognition-Mode Aware Variational Representation Learning Framework (CMVF) that can be directly applied to existing KT methods. Our framework uses a probabilistic model to generate a distribution for each student, accounting for uncertainty in those with limited practice records, and estimate the student's distribution via variational inference (VI). In addition, we also introduce a cognition-mode aware multinomial distribution as prior knowledge that constrains the posterior student distributions learning, so as to ensure that students with similar cognition modes have similar distributions, avoiding overwhelming personalization for students with few practice records. At last, extensive experimental results confirm that CMVF can effectively aid existing KT methods in learning more robust student representations. Our code is available at https://github.com/zmy-9/CMVF.

Detection of entanglement for multipartite quantum states

We study genuine tripartite entanglement and multipartite entanglement of arbitrary $n$-partite quantum states by using the representations with generalized Pauli operators of a density matrices. While the usual Bloch representation of a density matrix uses three types of generators in the special unitary Lie algebra $\mathfrak{su}(d)$, the representation with generalized Pauli operators has one uniformed type of generators and it simplifies computation. In this paper, we take the advantage of this simplicity to derive useful and operational criteria to detect genuine tripartite entanglement. We also obtain a sufficient criterion to detect entanglement for multipartite quantum states in arbitrary dimensions. The new method can detect more entangled states than previous methods as backed by detailed examples.

Counterfactual Monotonic Knowledge Tracing for Assessing Students' Dynamic Mastery of Knowledge Concepts

As the core of the Knowledge Tracking (KT) task, assessing students' dynamic mastery of knowledge concepts is crucial for both offline teaching and online educational applications. Since students' mastery of knowledge concepts is often unlabeled, existing KT methods rely on the implicit paradigm of historical practice to mastery of knowledge concepts to students' responses to practices to address the challenge of unlabeled concept mastery. However, purely predicting student responses without imposing specific constraints on hidden concept mastery values does not guarantee the accuracy of these intermediate values as concept mastery values. To address this issue, we propose a principled approach called Counterfactual Monotonic Knowledge Tracing (CMKT), which builds on the implicit paradigm described above by using a counterfactual assumption to constrain the evolution of students' mastery of knowledge concepts.

No Length Left Behind: Enhancing Knowledge Tracing for Modeling Sequences of Excessive or Insufficient Lengths

Knowledge tracing (KT) aims to predict students' responses to practices based on their historical question-answering behaviors. However, most current KT methods focus on improving overall AUC, leaving ample room for optimization in modeling sequences of excessive or insufficient lengths. As sequences get longer, computational costs will increase exponentially. Therefore, KT methods usually truncate sequences to an acceptable length, which makes it difficult for models on online service systems to capture complete historical practice behaviors of students with too long sequences. Conversely, modeling students with short practice sequences using most KT methods may result in overfitting due to limited observation samples. To address the above limitations, we propose a model called Sequence-Flexible Knowledge Tracing (SFKT).

Detection of tripartite entanglement based on principal basis matrix representations

We study the entanglement in tripartite quantum systems by using the principal basis matrix representations of density matrices. Using the Schmidt decomposition and local unitary transformation, we first convert the general states to simpler forms and then construct some special matrices from the correlation tensors of the simplified density matrices. Based on the different linear combinations of these matrices, necessary conditions are presented to detect entanglement of tripartite states. Detailed examples show that our method can detect more entangled states than previous ones.

CoxKnockoff: Controlled Feature Selection for the Cox Model Using Knockoffs

Although there is a huge literature on feature selection for the Cox model, none of the existing approaches can control the false discovery rate (FDR) unless the sample size tends to infinity. In addition, there is no formal power analysis of the knockoffs framework for survival data in the literature. To address those issues, in this paper, we propose a novel controlled feature selection approach using knockoffs for the Cox model. We establish that the proposed method enjoys the FDR control in finite samples regardless of the number of covariates. Moreover, under mild regularity conditions, we also show that the power of our method is asymptotically one as sample size tends to infinity. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first formal theoretical result on the power for the knockoffs procedure in the survival setting. Simulation studies confirm that our method has appealing finite-sample performance with desired FDR control and high power. We further demonstrate the performance of our method through a real data example.

Probing Phonon dynamics and Electron-Phonon Coupling by High Harmonic Generation in Solids

Acting as a highly nonlinear response to the strong laser field, high harmonic generation (HHG) naturally contains the fingerprints of atomic and electronic properties of materials. Electronic properties of a solid such as band structure and topology can thus be probed, while the phonon dynamics during HHG are often neglected. Here we show that by exploiting the effects of phonon deformation on HHG, the intrinsic phonon information can be deciphered and direct probing of band- and mode-resolved electron-phonon couplings (EPC) of photoexcited materials is possible. Considering HHG spectroscopy can be vacuum free and unrestricted to electron occupation, this work suggests HHG is promising for all-optical characterization of EPC in solids, especially for gapped quantum states or materials under high pressure.

Sampling theorems associated with offset linear canonical transform by polar coordinates

The sampling theorem for the offset linear canonical transform (OLCT) of bandlimited functions in polar coordinates is an important signal analysis tool in many fields of signal processing and medical imaging. This study investigates two sampling theorems for interpolating bandlimited and highest frequency bandlimited functions in the OLCT and offset linear canonical Hankel transform (OLCHT) domains by polar coordinates. Based on the classical Stark's interpolation formulas, we derive the sampling theorems for bandlimited functions in the OLCT and OLCHT domains, respectively. The first interpolation formula is concise and applicable. Due to the consistency of the OLCHT order, the second interpolation formula is superior to the first interpolation formula in computational complexity.

EdgeVO: An Efficient and Accurate Edge-based Visual Odometry

Visual odometry is important for plenty of applications such as autonomous vehicles, and robot navigation. It is challenging to conduct visual odometry in textureless scenes or environments with sudden illumination changes where popular feature-based methods or direct methods cannot work well. To address this challenge, some edge-based methods have been proposed, but they usually struggle between the efficiency and accuracy. In this work, we propose a novel visual odometry approach called \textit{EdgeVO}, which is accurate, efficient, and robust. By efficiently selecting a small set of edges with certain strategies, we significantly improve the computational efficiency without sacrificing the accuracy. Compared to existing edge-based method, our method can significantly reduce the computational complexity while maintaining similar accuracy or even achieving better accuracy. This is attributed to that our method removes useless or noisy edges. Experimental results on the TUM datasets indicate that EdgeVO significantly outperforms other methods in terms of efficiency, accuracy and robustness.

Unlimited Sampling Theorem Based on Fractional Fourier Transform

The recovery of bandlimited signals with high dynamic range is a hot issue in sampling research. The unlimited sampling theory expands the recordable range of traditional analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) arbitrarily, and the signal is folded back into a low dynamic range measurement, avoiding the saturation problem. We study the unlimited sampling problem of high dynamic non-bandlimited signals in the Fourier domain (FD) based on the fractional Fourier transform (FRFT). First, a mathematical signal model for unlimited sampling is proposed. Then, based on this mathematical model, the annihilation filtering method is used to estimate the arbitrary folding time. Finally, a novel unlimited sampling theorem in the FRFD is obtained. The results show that the non-bandlimited signal can be reconstructed in the FD based on the FRFT, and it is not affected by the ADC threshold.

Optimal investment problem for a hybrid pension with intergenerational risk-sharing and longevity trend under model uncertainty

This paper studies the optimal investment problem for a hybrid pension plan under model uncertainty, where both the contribution and the benefit are adjusted depending on the performance of the plan. Furthermore, an age and time-dependent force of mortality and a linear maximum age are considered to capture the longevity trend. Suppose that the plan manager is ambiguity averse and is allowed to invest in a risk-free asset and a stock. The plan manager aims to find optimal investment strategies and optimal intergenerational risk-sharing arrangements by minimizing the cost of unstable contribution risk, the cost of unstable benefit risk and discontinuity risk under the worst-case scenario. By applying the stochastic optimal control approach, closed-form solutions are derived under a penalized quadratic cost function. Through numerical analysis and three special cases, we find that the intergeneration risk-sharing is achieved in our collective hybrid pension plan effectively. And it also shows that when people live longer, postponing the retirement seems a feasible way to alleviate the stress of the aging problem.

PCRED: Zero-shot Relation Triplet Extraction with Potential Candidate Relation Selection and Entity Boundary Detection

Zero-shot relation triplet extraction (ZeroRTE) aims to extract relation triplets from unstructured texts under the zero-shot setting, where the relation sets at the training and testing stages are disjoint. Previous state-of-the-art method handles this challenging task by leveraging pretrained language models to generate data as additional training samples, which increases the training cost and severely constrains the model performance. To address the above issues, we propose a novel method named PCRED for ZeroRTE with Potential Candidate Relation Selection and Entity Boundary Detection. The remarkable characteristic of PCRED is that it does not rely on additional data and still achieves promising performance. The model adopts a relation-first paradigm, recognizing unseen relations through candidate relation selection. With this approach, the semantics of relations are naturally infused in the context. Entities are extracted based on the context and the semantics of relations subsequently. We evaluate our model on two ZeroRTE datasets. The experiment results show that our method consistently outperforms previous works. Our code will be available at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/PCRED.

Deformable Molecular Crystal on 2D Crystal: A New Way to Build Nanoscale Periodic Trapping Sites for Interlayer Excitons

The nanoscale moiré pattern formed at 2D transition metal dichalcogenide crystal (TMDC) heterostructures provides periodic trapping sites for excitons, which is essential for realizing various exotic phases such as artificial exciton lattices, Bose-Einstein condensates, and exciton insulators. At organic molecule/TMDC heterostructures, similar periodic potentials can be formed via other degrees of freedom. We utilize the structure deformability of a 2D molecular crystal as a degree of freedom to create a periodic nanoscale potential that can trap interlayer excitons (IXs). Specifically, two semiconducting molecules, PTCDI and PTCDA, which possess similar bandgaps and ionization potentials but form different lattice structures on MoS2, are investigated. The PTCDI lattice on MoS2 is distorted geometrically, which lifts the degeneracy of the two molecules within the crystal's unit cell. The degeneracy lifting results in a spatial variation of the molecular orbital energy, with an amplitude and periodicity of ~ 0.2 eV and ~ 2 nm, respectively. On the other hand, no such energy variation is observed in PTCDA/MoS2, where the PTCDA lattice is much less distorted. The periodic variation in molecular orbital energies provides effective trapping sites for IXs. For IXs formed at PTCDI/MoS2, rapid spatial localization of the electron in the organic layer towards the interface is observed, which demonstrate the effectiveness of these interfacial IX's traps.
