Study on Transient Spectrum Based on Charge Transfer of Semiconductor Quantum Dots

With the increasing energy crisis and the prevalent concept of green sustainability, quantum dot materials have become a hot spot in the academic and industrial fields of chemistry. Due to unique, tailor-made photovoltaic properties based on marked quantum-confined effects, it's necessary to identify the QD-based charge transfer process connected with a lifetime of stimulated excitons. Additionally, inorganic nanoparticles with a continuum of electron states contribute to the consistency between electron dynamics and their function through complexation with QDs. Ultrafast spectroscopy can be widely used in this system, the most typical of which is the time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy, especially on a femtosecond or picosecond timescale. In this paper, we used the ZnSe/CdS core-shell quantum dot as the donor, and the TiO2 film as the metal oxide molecule as the acceptor, through steady-state and transient absorption techniques. Within, the electron transfer and related processes between the two composite systems were explored, and the relationship between the electron transfer rate constant (kBET) and particle size and QD core size was further studied. Through the research content of this paper, it is hoped to provide materials for quantum dot sensitization devices with more controllable features.

Medium-temperature furnace bake of Superconducting Radio-Frequency cavities at IHEP

Recently, heat treatment between 250 C and 500 C has been attempted to improve quality factor of superconducting radio-frequency cavities at FNAL and KEK. Experiments of such medium temperature (mid-T) bake with furnaces have also been carried out at IHEP. Firstly, eleven 1.3 GHz 1-cell cavities were treated with different temperatures at a small furnace. The average quality factor has reached 3.6E10 when the gradient is 16 MV/m. Then, the recipe of mid-T furnace bake at 300 C for 3 hours has been applied to six 1.3 GHz 9-cell cavities at a new big furnace. The average quality factor has reached 3.8E10 when the gradient is 16 MV/m.

On the Transmission Probabilities in Quantum Key Distribution Systems over FSO Links

In this paper, we investigate the transmission probabilities in three cases (depending only on the legitimate receiver, depending only the eavesdropper, and depending on both legitimate receiver and eavesdropper) in quantum key distribution (QKD) systems over free-space optical links. To be more realistic, we consider a generalized pointing error scenario, where the azimuth and elevation pointing error angles caused by stochastic jitters and vibrations in the legitimate receiver platform are independently distributed according to a non-identical normal distribution. Taking these assumptions into account, we derive approximate expressions of transmission probabilities by using the Gaussian quadrature method. To simplify the expressions and get some physical insights, some asymptotic analysis on the transmission probabilities is presented based on asymptotic expression for the generalized Marcum Q-function when the telescope gain at the legitimate receiver approaches to infinity. Moreover, from the asymptotic expression for the generalized Marcum Q-function, the asymptotic outage probability over Beckmann fading channels (a general channel model including Rayleigh, Rice, and Hoyt fading channels) can be also easily derived when the average signal-to-noise ratio is sufficiently large, which shows the diversity order and array gain.

Coherent synthetic aperture imaging for visible remote sensing via reflective Fourier ptychography

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can measure the phase with antenna and microwave, which cannot be directly extended to visible light imaging due to phase lost. In this letter, we reported an active remote sensing with visible light via reflective Fourier ptychography (FP), termed coherent synthetic aperture imaging (CSAI), achieving high resolution, wide field-of-view (FOV) and phase recovery. A proof-of-concept experiment was reported with laser scanning and a collimator for the infinite object. Both smooth and rough objects are tested, and the spatial resolution increased from 15.6 um to 3.48 um with a factor of 4.5. The speckle noise can be suppressed by FP unexpectedly. Meanwhile, the CSAI method may replace the adaptive optics to tackle the aberration induced from atmospheric turbulence and optical system by one-step deconvolution.

Ferromagnetic MnSn monolayer epitaxially grown on silicon substrate

Two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnetic materials have been exhibiting promising potential in applications, such as spintronics devices. To grow epitaxial magnetic films on silicon substrate, in the single-layer limit, is practically important but challenging. In this study, we realized the epitaxial growth of MnSn monolayer on Si(111) substrate, with an atomically thin Sn/Si(111)-$2\sqrt{3}\times2\sqrt{3}$- buffer layer, and controlled the MnSn thickness with atomic-layer precision. We discovered the ferromagnetism in MnSn monolayer with the Curie temperature (Tc) of ~54 K. As the MnSn film is grown to 4 monolayers, Tc increases accordingly to ~235 K. The lattice of the epitaxial MnSn monolayer as well as the Sn/Si(111)-$2\sqrt{3}\times2\sqrt{3}$ is perfectly compatible with silicon, and thus an sharp interface is formed between MnSn, Sn and Si. This system provides a new platform for exploring the 2D ferromagnetism, integrating magnetic monolayers into silicon-based technology, and engineering the spintronics heterostructures.

Projection based lower bounds of concurrence for multipartite quantum systems

We study the concurrence of arbitrary-dimensional multipartite quantum states. Analytical lower bounds of concurrence for tripartite quantum states are derived by projecting high-dimensional states to $2\otimes 2\otimes 2$ substates. The results are then generalized to arbitrary multipartite quantum systems. Furthermore, the scheme enables us obtain lower bounds of concurrence for arbitrary four-partite quantum states by projecting high-dimensional states to arbitrary given lower dimensional substates. By detailed examples we show that our results improve the existing lower bounds of concurrence.

Separability criteria based on Bloch representation of density matrices

We study separability criteria in multipartite quantum systems of arbitrary dimensions by using the Bloch representation of density matrices. We first derive the norms of the correlation tensors and obtain the necessary conditions for separability under partition of tripartite and four-partite quantum states. Moreover, based on the norms of the correlation tensors,we obtain the separability criteria by matrix method. Using detailed examples, our results are seen to be able to detect more entangled states than previous studies. Finally, necessary conditions of separability for multipartite systems are given under arbitrary partition.

The Normal Map Based on Area-Preserving Parameterization

In this paper, we present an approach to enhance and improve the current normal map rendering technique. Our algorithm is based on semi-discrete Optimal Mass Transportation (OMT) theory and has a solid theoretical base. The key difference from previous normal map method is that we preserve the local area when we unwrap a disk-like 3D surface onto 2D plane. Compared to the currently used techniques which is based on conformal parameterization, our method does not need to cut a surface into many small pieces to avoid the large area distortion. The following charts packing step is also unnecessary in our framework. Our method is practical and makes the normal map technique more robust and efficient.

Constructing mutually unbiased bases from unextendible maximally entangled bases

We study mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) in which all the bases are unextendible maximally entangled ones. We first present a necessary and sufficient condition of constructing a pair of MUBs in $C^2 \otimes C^4$. Based on this condition, an analytical and necessary condition for constructing MUBs is given. Moreover we illustrate our approach by some detailed examples in $C^2 \otimes C^4$. The results are generalized to $C^2 \otimes C^d$ $(d\geq 3)$ and a concrete example in $C^2 \otimes C^8$ is given.

On the Distribution of the Ratio of Products of Fisher-Snedecor $\mathcal{F}$ Random Variables and Its Applications

The Fisher-Snedecor $\mathcal{F}$ distribution has been recently proposed as a more accurate and mathematically tractable composite fading model than traditional established models in some practical cases. In this paper, we firstly derive exact closed-form expressions for the main statistical characterizations of the ratio of products of $\mathcal{F}$-distributed random variables, including the probability density function, the cumulative distribution function and the moment generating function. Secondly, simple and tight approximations to the distribution of products and ratio of products of $\mathcal{F}$-distributed random variables are presented. These analytical results can be readily employed to evaluate the performance of several emerging system configurations, including full-duplex relaying systems operating in the presence of co-channel interference and wireless communication systems enhanced with physical-layer security. The proposed mathematical analysis is substantiated by numerically evaluated results, accompanied by equivalent ones obtained using Monte Carlo simulations.

AMOEBA: A Coarse Grained Reconfigurable Architecture for Dynamic GPU Scaling

Different GPU applications exhibit varying scalability patterns with network-on-chip (NoC), coalescing, memory and control divergence, and L1 cache behavior. A GPU consists of several StreamingMulti-processors (SMs) that collectively determine how shared resources are partitioned and accessed. Recent years have seen divergent paths in SM scaling towards scale-up (fewer, larger SMs) vs. scale-out (more, smaller SMs). However, neither scaling up nor scaling out can meet the scalability requirement of all applications running on a given GPU system, which inevitably results in performance degradation and resource under-utilization for some applications. In this work, we investigate major design parameters that influence GPU scaling. We then propose AMOEBA, a solution to GPU scaling through reconfigurable SM cores. AMOEBA monitors and predicts application scalability at run-time and adjusts the SM configuration to meet program requirements. AMOEBA also enables dynamic creation of heterogeneous SMs through independent fusing or splitting. AMOEBA is a microarchitecture-based solution and requires no additional programming effort or custom compiler support. Our experimental evaluations with application programs from various benchmark suites indicate that AMOEBA is able to achieve a maximum performance gain of 4.3x, and generates an average performance improvement of 47% when considering all benchmarks tested.

Nonlinear optical response spatial self-hase modulation in MoTe2: correlations between \c{hi}(3) and mobility or effective mass

We report an unambiguous observation of third-order nonlinear optical effect, spatial self-phase modulation (SSPM), in a MoTe2 dispersion. The values of the third order nonlinear optical coefficients effectively for one layer MoTe2, \c{hi}(3)one-layer, are obtained through the SSPM method at excitation wavelengths 473, 532, 750 and 801 nm, respectively. The wind-chime model is used to explain the ring formation time. The wavelength dependence of \c{hi}(3)one-layer compares well with the photo-absorption spectra. Significantly, we find a correlation between \c{hi}(3) and the carrier mobility μ or effective mass m*, which again further supports the laser-induced ac electron coherence in 2D materials.

Alleviating Bottlenecks for DNN Execution on GPUs via Opportunistic Computing

Edge computing and IoT applications are severely constrained by limited hardware resource. This makes memory consuming DNN frameworks not applicable to edge computing. Simple algorithms such as direct convolution are finding their way in embedded machine learning. As one of the most widely used platforms for DNN acceleration, GPUs face the bottleneck of on-chip bandwidth. This work introduces a GPU DNN execution architecture that targets on relieving the on-chip bandwidth bottleneck by reducing data movement through opportunistic computing. We first investigate data access patterns in the hardware view rather than the software view. Then we propose two opportunistic computing techniques to predictably perform computation when data is available with the help of assistant warps. By moving computation to data, our techniques are able to significantly reduce data movement and relieve the DNN execution bottleneck. Our evaluation results show that the proposed technique can improve DNN application performance as much as 55%.

Based on the norms of the correlation tensors of a multipartite state under various partitions, we present an analytical sufficient criterion for detecting the genuine four-partite entanglement. A Simple Evaluation for the Secrecy Outage Probability Over Generalized-K Fading Channels

A simple approximation for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) over generalized-K fading channels is developed. This approximation becomes tighter as the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the wiretap channel decreases. Based on this simple expression, we also analyze the asymptotic SOP in the high SNR region of the main channel. Besides simplifying the SOP expression significantly, this asymptotic SOP expression reveals the secrecy diversity order in a general case. Numerical results demonstrate the high accuracy of our proposed approximation results.

Secrecy Outage Analysis Over Fluctuating Two-Ray Fading Channels

In this letter, we analyze the secrecy outage probability (SOP) over fluctuating two-ray fading channels but with a different definition from the one adopted in [5]. Following the new defined SOP, we derive an analytical closed-form expression for our proposed SOP, as well as an asymptotic formula valid in the high signal-to-noise ratio region of the source to destination link. In the numerical results section, we perform some Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the accuracy of our derived expressions, and also present the probability gap between our proposed SOP and the SOP in [5].

Secure mmWave Communications in Cognitive Radio Networks

In this letter, the secrecy performance in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) over fluctuating two-ray (FTR) channels, which is used to model the millimetre wave channel, is investigated in terms of the secrecy outage probability (SOP). Specifically, we consider the case where a source (S) transmits confidential messages to a destination (D), and an eavesdropper wants to wiretap the information from S to D. In a CRN framework, we assume that the primary user shares its spectrum with S, where S adopts the underlay strategy to control its transmit power without impairing the quality of service of the primary user. After some mathematical manipulations, an exact analytical expression for the SOP is derived. In order to get physical and technical insights into the effect of the channel parameters on the SOP, we derive an asymptotic formula for the SOP in the high signal-to-noise ratio region of the S--D link. We finally show some selected Monte-Carlo simulation results to validate the correctness of our derived analytical expressions.
