The Pseudospectral Method for the Dirac Equation with Confining Potential

We observe that solving the Dirac equation for confined potentials using the generalized pseudospectral (GPS) method leads to deteriorating convergence of energy eigenvalues and highly oscillatory in wave functions as the confinement radius decreases. It is found that this issue stems from the first-order differentiation formulation employed in GPS method. Motivated by this insight, we adopt the kinetically balanced generalized pseudospectral method, which incorporates the kinetically-balanced condition into the GPS method. Numerical results demonstrate that the mono-kinetically-balanced generalized pseu dospectral (MKB-GPS) method yields converged energy eigenvalues and generates smooth, continuous wave functions. This is the first application of the MKB-GPS method to confined potentials, and its effectiveness is validated for small confinement radii.

Finite-nuclear-size effect for hydrogenlike ions under high external pressure

The influence of pressure on finite-nuclear-size corrections to atomic energy levels and electron-capture decay rate is investigated in confined hydrogenlike ions. The ions are modeled inside an impenetrable spherical cavity, with a Gaussian distribution used to represent the nuclear charge distribution. For each confinement radius used to simulate external pressure, the energies and wave functions of the lowest-lying bound states are determined by numerically solving the Dirac equation via the kinetically balanced generalized pseudospectral method. In contrast to unconfined ions, both the FNS corrections and electron-capture decay rates increase markedly under pressure and exhibit parallel trends with increasing confinement. Pressure also removes level degeneracies and alters the relative magnitudes of FNS corrections across different bound states. Moreover, the nuclear charge radius is found to significantly affect the pressure-enhanced electron-capture decay rate.

Point-proton density distributions of stable nuclei

Point-proton density distributions are deduced for 130 stable nuclei from $^{7}\mathrm{Li}$ to $^{232}\mathrm{Th}$ from nuclear charge densities determined in elastic electron scattering. There are 171 cases are presented in model-dependent forms, including the modified Harmonic-oscillator function, two-parameter Femi function (2pF), three-parameter Femi function, three-parameter Gaussian function, and 97 in Fourier-Bessel series model-independent forms. Independent of density functions, the point-proton root-mean-square (rms) radii of the derived point-proton density show excellent agreement with each other. We identify cases where the tabulated data of charge densities and charge radii are inconsistent, and the deduced point-proton density distributions are inaccurate due to insufficient experimental momentum transfer coverage or inconsistent scattering experiments. For the widely used 2pF distribution, it is found that the surface diffuseness parameters can be empirically calculated from those of charge density, while the half-density radius parameters follow the $A^{1/3}$ rule. The derived point-proton density distributions can be used as input in nuclear reaction studies and compared with nuclear model predictions.

Impact of intrinsic electromagnetic structure on the nuclear charge radius in relativistic density functional theory

In this study, the effects of the nucleon's intrinsic electromagnetic (EM) structure on the nuclear charge radius have been explored within the framework of the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory. It is found that the intrinsic EM structure corrections could make an effect for accurately describing the evolution of nuclear charge radius. After taking into account the intrinsic EM structure corrections, the descriptions of the evolution of charge radii for Pb, Sn, and Cd isotopes have been improved within relativistic density functional theory. Using the Pb isotopic chain as an example, the improvement in charge radii can be primarily attributed to the intrinsic neutron and neutron spin-orbit terms of the intrinsic EM structure. Additionally, nuclear charge densities and corresponding isotopic evolution in Pb isotopes have been discussed.

Nuclear mass table in deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum, II: Even-$Z$ nuclei

The mass table in the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) with the PC-PK1 density functional has been established for even-$Z$ nuclei with $8\le Z\le120$, extended from the previous work for even-even nuclei [Zhang $\it{et.~al.}$ (DRHBc Mass Table Collaboration), At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 144, 101488 (2022)]. The calculated binding energies, two-nucleon and one-neutron separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, and neutron and proton Fermi surfaces are tabulated and compared with available experimental data. A total of 4829 even-$Z$ nuclei are predicted to be bound, with an rms deviation of 1.477 MeV from the 1244 mass data. Good agreement with the available experimental odd-even mass differences, $α$ decay energies, and charge radii is also achieved. The description accuracy for nuclear masses and nucleon separation energies as well as the prediction for drip lines is compared with the results obtained from other relativistic and nonrelativistic density functional. The comparison shows that the DRHBc theory with PC-PK1 provides an excellent microscopic description for the masses of even-$Z$ nuclei. The systematics of the nucleon separation energies, odd-even mass differences, pairing energies, two-nucleon gaps, $α$ decay energies, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron density distributions, and neutron mean-field potentials are discussed.
