Constructing the LG/CY isomorphism between $tt^*$ geometries

For a nondegenerate homogeneous polynomial $f\in\mathbb{C}[z_0, \dots, z_{n+1}]$ with degree $n+2$, we can obtain a $tt^*$ structure from the Landau-Ginzburg model $(\C^{n+2}, f)$ and a (new) $tt^*$ structure on the Calabi-Yau hypersurface defined by the zero locus of $f$ in $\C P^{n+1}$. We can prove that the big residue map considered by Steenbrink gives an isomorphism between the two $tt^*$ structures. We also build the correspondence for non-Calabi-Yau cases, and it turns out that only partial structure can be preserved. As an application, we show that the $tt^*$ geometry structure of Landau-Ginzburg model on relavant deformation space uniquely determines the $tt^*$ geometry structure on Calabi-Yau side. This explains the folklore conclusion in physical literature. This result is based on our early work \cite{FLY}.

LG/CY correspondence between $tt^*$ geometries

The concept of $tt^*$ geometric structure was introduced by physicists (see \cite{CV1, BCOV} and references therein) , and then studied firstly in mathematics by C. Hertling \cite{Het1}. It is believed that the $tt^*$ geometric structure contains the whole genus $0$ information of a two dimensional topological field theory. In this paper, we propose the LG/CY correspondence conjecture for $tt^*$ geometry and obtain the following result. Let $f\in\mathbb{C}[z_0, \dots, z_{n+2}]$ be a nondegenerate homogeneous polynomialof degree $n+2$, then it defines a Calabi-Yau model represented by a Calabi-Yau hypersurface $X_f$ in $\mathbb{CP}^{n+1}$ or a Landau-Ginzburg model represented by a hypersurface singularity $(\mathbb{C}^{n+2}, f)$, both can be written as a $tt^*$ structure. We proved that there exists a $tt^*$ substructure on Landau-Ginzburg side, which should correspond to the $tt^*$ structure from variation of Hodge structures in Calabi-Yau side. We build the isomorphism of almost all structures in $tt^*$ geometries between these two models except the isomorphism between real structures.

A Mathematical Theory of the Gauged Linear Sigma Model

We construct a mathematical theory of Witten's Gauged Linear Sigma Model (GLSM). Our theory applies to a wide range of examples, including many cases with non-Abelian gauge group. Both the Gromov-Witten theory of a Calabi-Yau complete intersection X and the Landau-Ginzburg dual (FJRW-theory) of X can be expressed as gauged linear sigma models. Furthermore, the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence can be interpreted as a variation of the moment map or a deformation of GIT in the GLSM. This paper focuses primarily on the algebraic theory, while a companion article will treat the analytic theory.

Fukaya category of Landau-Ginzburg model

This article introduces and provides the mathematical foundation of the open string Floer theory of Landau-Ginzburg model viaWitten equation. We introduce the concept of regular tame exact Landau-Ginzburg system on a noncompact Kaehler manifold, and define the notion of Landau-Ginzburg branes, as the objects of the Fukaya category. The study on Witten equation in our context provides the construction of the Fukaya category of Landau-Ginzburg model which was conjectured to be existed in Gaiotto-Moore-Witten's work [22] and Kapranov-Kontsevich-Soibelman's work [30]. This is the first paper in the series of studies on Landau-Ginzburg models in the contexts of the mirror symmetry and other topics.

The Moduli Space in the Gauged Linear Sigma Model

This is a survey article for the mathematical theory of Witten's Gauged Linear Sigma Model, as developed recently by the authors. Instead of developing the theory in the most general setting, in this paper we focus on the description of the moduli.

Torsion type invariants of singularities

Inspired by the LG/CY correspondence, we study the local index theory of the Schrödinger operator associated to a singularity defined on ${\mathbb C}^n$ by a quasi-homogeneous polynomial $f$. Under some mild assumption on $f$, we show that the small time heat kernel expansion of the corresponding Schrödinger operator exists and is a series of fractional powers of time $t$. Then we prove a local index formula which expresses the Milnor number of $f$ by a Gaussian type integral. Furthermore, the heat kernel expansion provides spectral invariants of $f$. Especially, we define torsion type invariants associated to a singularity. These spectral invariants provide a new direction to study the singularity.

A twisted $\bar{\partial}_f$-Neumann problem and Toeplitz $n$-tuples from singularity theory

A twisted $\bar{\partial}_f$-Neumann problem associated to a singularity $(\mathscr{O}_n,f)$ is established. By constructing the connection to the Koszul complex for toeplitz $n$-tuples $(f_1,\cdots,f_n)$ on Bergman spaces $B^0(D)$, we can solve this $\bar{\partial}_f$-Neumann problem. Moreover, we can compute the cohomology of the $L^2$ holomorphic Koszul complex $(B^*(D),\partial f\wedge)$ explicitly

Witten's D_4 Integrable Hierarchies Conjecture

We prove that the total descendant potential functions of the theory of Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten for D_4 with symmetry group and D_4^T with symmetry group G_{max}, respectively, are both tau-functions of the D_4 Kac-Wakimoto/Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy. This completes the proof, begun in [FJR], of the Witten Integrable Hierarchies Conjecture for all simple (ADE) singularities.

The Witten equation, mirror symmetry and quantum singularity theory

For any non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous hypersurface singularity, we describe a family of moduli spaces, a virtual cycle, and a corresponding cohomological field theory associated to the singularity. This theory is analogous to Gromov-Witten theory and generalizes the theory of r-spin curves, which corresponds to the simple singularity A_{r-1}. We also resolve two outstanding conjectures of Witten. The first conjecture is that ADE-singularities are self-dual; and the second conjecture is that the total potential functions of ADE-singularities satisfy corresponding ADE-integrable hierarchies. Other cases of integrable hierarchies are also discussed.

Schrödinger equations, deformation theory and $tt^*$-geometry

This is the first of a series of papers to construct the deformation theory of the form Schrödinger equation, which is related to a section-bundle system $(M,g,f)$, where $(M,g)$ is a noncompact complete Kähler manifold with bounded geometry and $f$ is a holomorphic function defined on $M$. This work is also the first step attempting to understand the whole Landau-Ginzburg B-model including the higher genus invariants. Our work is mainly based on the pioneer work of Cecotti, Cecotti and Vafa \cite{Ce1,Ce2,CV}.

The Witten equation and its virtual fundamental cycle

We study a system of nonlinear elliptic PDEs associated with a quasi-homogeneous polynomial. These equations were proposed by Witten as the replacement for the Cauchy-Riemann equation in the singularity (Landau-Ginzburg) setting. We introduce a perturbation to the equation and construct a virtual cycle for the moduli space of its solutions. Then, we study the wall-crossing of the deformation of the virtual cycle under perturbation and match it to classical Picard-Lefschetz theory. An extended virtual cycle is obtained for the original equation. Finally, we prove that the extended virtual cycle satisfies a set of axioms similar to those of Gromov-Witten theory and r-spin theory.

Quantum Singularity Theory for A_{r-1} and r-Spin Theory

We give a review of the quantum singularity theory of Fan-Jarvis-Ruan and the r-spin theory of Jarvis-Kimura-Vaintrob and describe the work of Abramovich-Jarvis showing that for the singularity A_{r-1} = x^r the stack of A_{r-1}-curves of is canonically isomorphic to the stack of r-spin curves. We prove that the A_{r-1}-theory satisfies all the axioms of Jarvis-Kimura-Vaintrob for an r-spin virtual class. Therefore, the results of Lee, Faber-Shadrin-Zovonkine, and Givental all apply to the A_{r-1}-theory. In particular, this shows that the Witten Integrable Hierarchies Conjecture is true for the A_{r-1}-theory; that is, the total descendant potential function of the A_{r-1}-theory satisfies the r-th Gelfand-Dikii hierarchy.

Quantum ring of singularity $X^{p}+XY^{q}$

In this paper, we will prove that the quantum ring of the quasi-homogeneous polynomial $X^{p}+XY^{q}(p\ge 2,q>1)$ with some admissible symmetry group $G$ defined by Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory is isomorphic to the Milnor ring of its mirror dual polynomial $X^{p}Y+Y^{q}$. We will construct an concrete isomorphism between them. The construction is a little bit different in case $(p-1,q)=1$ and case $(p-1,q)=d>1$. Some other problems including the correspondence between the pairings of both Frobenius algebras has also been discussed.

Geometry and analysis of spin equations

We introduce W-spin structures on a Riemann surface and give a precise definition to the corresponding W-spin equations for any quasi-homogeneous polynomial W. Then, we construct examples of nonzero solutions of spin equations in the presence of Ramond marked points. The main result of the paper is a compactness theorem for the moduli space of the solutions of W-spin equations when W is a non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous polynomial whose variables all have weight (or fractional degree) wt(x_i) < 1/2. In particular, the compactness theorem holds for the A,D, and E superpotentials.

Martin points on open manifolds of non-positive curvature

The Martin boundary of a Cartan-Hadamard manifold describes a fine geometric structure at infinity, which is a sub-space of positive harmonic functions. We describe conditions which ensure that some points of the sphere at infinity belong to the Martin boundary as well. In the case of the universal cover of a compact manifold with Ballmann rank one, we show that Martin points are generic and of full harmonic measure. The result of this paper provides a partial answer to an open problem of S. T. Yau.

Conley Index Theory and Novikov-Morse Theory

We derive general Novikov-Morse type inequalities in a Conley type framework for flows carrying cocycles, therefore generalizing our results in [FJ2] derived for integral cocycle. The condition of carrying a cocycle expresses the nontriviality of integrals of that cocycle on flow lines. Gradient-like flows are distinguished from general flows carrying a cocycle by boundedness conditions on these integrals.
