Interfacial Polarons Driven by Charge Transfer In WSe2/Cuprate Superconductor Systems

Understanding the electronic properties of doped copper-oxygen planes remains a significant challenge in condensed matter physics and is crucial to unraveling the mechanisms behind high-temperature superconductivity in cuprates. Recently, the observation of charge transfer and interfacial polarons in superconducting interface has aroused extensive research interest. However, experimental data to investigate charge transfer on the CuO2 plane and the presence of polarons are still missing. Here we conduct extensive research on the optical and electronic properties of two-dimensional material supported on copper-based superconductors. Unlike monolayer-WSe2 on other substrates, monolayer-WSe2 on La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 (WSe2/LSCO) produces a special band structure. Using high-resolution spectroscopic ellipsometry and density functional theory calculation methods, the special electronic structure can be attributed to the formation of the interfacial small polaron at the WSe2/LSCO interface which is driven by charge transfer between the CuO2 plane of the cuprate superconductor and WSe2. In addition, the structural phase transition of the LSCO substrate was observed to reduce the electron-hole (e-h) interaction of WSe2. These findings may spur future investigations on the effect of the interfacial polaron on the superconductivity of cuprates, and highlight the significant influence of interface effects on the electronic structure of WSe2 films. It provides an effective method to further explore the intrinsic relationship between interfacial polarons and superconductivity.

Modulation approximation for the non-isentropic Euler-Poisson system

As a formal approximation, the nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger (NLS) equation can be derived to describe the evolution of the envelopes of small oscillating wave packets-like solutions to the Euler-Poisson system. In this paper we rigorously justify that the wave packets for the non-isentropic Euler-Poisson system can be approximated by solutions of the NLS equation over a physically relevant $\mathcal{O}(\epsilon^{-2})$ time scale. Besides the difficulties such as resonances at $k=0$ and $k=\pm k_0$ and loss of derivatives arising in the modulation approximation problem in the isentropic Euler-Poisson system, new difficulties arise in the non-isentropic case. In the non-isentropic Euler-Poisson system, new resonances at wave number $k=\pm 2k_0$ appear which necessitate rescaling the correction to the modulation approximation differently for different wave numbers. In addition, it is more difficult to obtain the uniform estimates for the error $(R_{0},R_{1},R_{-1})$ between the real solutions and the approximate solutions, due to the extra interactions with the temperature. To overcome the difficulties aroused by resonances and loss of derivatives, we find several important structural identities between the diagonalized unknowns and apply a series of normal-form transforms, to obtain uniform estimates for the error over the desired $\mathcal{O}(\epsilon^{-2})$ long time scale.

Cattle-CLIP: A Multimodal Framework for Cattle Behaviour Recognition from Video

Robust behaviour recognition in real-world farm environments remains challenging due to several data-related limitations, including the scarcity of well-annotated livestock video datasets and the substantial domain gap between large-scale pre-training corpora and agricultural surveillance footage. To address these challenges, we propose Cattle-CLIP, a domain-adaptive vision-language framework that reformulates cattle behaviour recognition as cross-modal semantic alignment rather than purely visual classification. Instead of directly fine-tuning visual backbones, Cattle-CLIP incorporates a temporal integration module to extend image-level contrastive pre-training to video-based behaviour understanding, enabling consistent semantic alignment across time. To mitigate the distribution shift between web-scale image-text data used for the pre-trained model and real-world cattle surveillance footage, we further introduce tailored augmentation strategies and specialised behaviour prompts. Furthermore, we construct CattleBehaviours6, a curated and behaviour-consistent video dataset comprising 1905 annotated clips across six indoor behaviours to support model training and evaluation. Beyond serving as a benchmark for our proposed method, the dataset provides a standardised ethogram definition, offering a practical resource for future research in livestock behaviour analysis. Cattle-CLIP is evaluated under both fully-supervised and few-shot learning scenarios, with a particular focus on data-scarce behaviour recognition, an important yet under-explored goal in livestock monitoring. Experiments show that Cattle-CLIP achieves 96.1% overall accuracy across six behaviours in supervised settings, with near-perfect recall for feeding, drinking and standing-ruminating behaviours, and demonstrates robust generalisation with limited data in few-shot scenarios.

The bidirectional NLS approximation for the one-dimensional Euler-Poisson system

The nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation is known as a universal equation describing the evolution of the envelopes of slowly modulated spatially and temporarily oscillating wave packet in various dispersive systems. In this paper, we prove that under a certain multiple scale transformation, solutions to the Euler-Poisson system can be approximated by the sums of two counter-propagating waves solving the NLS equations. It extends the earlier results [Liu and Pu, Comm. Math. Phys., 371(2), (2019)357-398], which justify the unidirectional NLS approximation to the Euler-Poisson system for the ion-coustic wave. We demonstrate that the solutions could be convergent to two counter-propagating wave packets, where each wave packet involves independently as a solution of the NLS equation. We rigorously prove the validity of the NLS approximation for the one-dimensional Euler-Poisson system by obtaining uniform error estimates in Sobolev spaces. The NLS dynamics can be observed at a physically relevant timespan of order $\mathcal{O}(ε^{-2})$. As far as we know, this result is the first construction and valid proof of the bidirectional NLS approximation.

Unnoticeable Community Deception via Multi-objective Optimization

Community detection in graphs is crucial for understanding the organization of nodes into densely connected clusters. While numerous strategies have been developed to identify these clusters, the success of community detection can lead to privacy and information security concerns, as individuals may not want their personal information exposed. To address this, community deception methods have been proposed to reduce the effectiveness of detection algorithms. Nevertheless, several limitations, such as the rationality of evaluation metrics and the unnoticeability of attacks, have been ignored in current deception methods. Therefore, in this work, we first investigate the limitations of the widely used deception metric, i.e., the decrease of modularity, through empirical studies. Then, we propose a new deception metric, and combine this new metric together with the attack budget to model the unnoticeable community deception task as a multi-objective optimization problem. To further improve the deception performance, we propose two variant methods by incorporating the degree-biased and community-biased candidate node selection mechanisms. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed community deception strategies.

MIST: Towards Multi-dimensional Implicit BiaS Evaluation of LLMs for Theory of Mind

Theory of Mind (ToM) in Large Language Models (LLMs) refers to the model's ability to infer the mental states of others, with failures in this ability often manifesting as systemic implicit biases. Assessing this challenge is difficult, as traditional direct inquiry methods are often met with refusal to answer and fail to capture its subtle and multidimensional nature. Therefore, we propose MIST, which reconceptualizes the content model of stereotypes into multidimensional failures of ToM, specifically in the domains of competence, sociability, and morality. The framework introduces two indirect tasks. The Word Association Bias Test (WABT) assesses implicit lexical associations, while the Affective Attribution Test (AAT) measures implicit emotional tendencies, aiming to uncover latent stereotypes without triggering model avoidance. Through extensive experimentation on eight state-of-the-art LLMs, our framework demonstrates the ability to reveal complex bias structures and improved robustness. All data and code will be released.

Mitigating the Structural Bias in Graph Adversarial Defenses

In recent years, graph neural networks (GNNs) have shown great potential in addressing various graph structure-related downstream tasks. However, recent studies have found that current GNNs are susceptible to malicious adversarial attacks. Given the inevitable presence of adversarial attacks in the real world, a variety of defense methods have been proposed to counter these attacks and enhance the robustness of GNNs. Despite the commendable performance of these defense methods, we have observed that they tend to exhibit a structural bias in terms of their defense capability on nodes with low degree (i.e., tail nodes), which is similar to the structural bias of traditional GNNs on nodes with low degree in the clean graph. Therefore, in this work, we propose a defense strategy by including hetero-homo augmented graph construction, $k$NN augmented graph construction, and multi-view node-wise attention modules to mitigate the structural bias of GNNs against adversarial attacks. Notably, the hetero-homo augmented graph consists of removing heterophilic links (i.e., links connecting nodes with dissimilar features) globally and adding homophilic links (i.e., links connecting nodes with similar features) for nodes with low degree. To further enhance the defense capability, an attention mechanism is adopted to adaptively combine the representations from the above two kinds of graph views. We conduct extensive experiments to demonstrate the defense and debiasing effect of the proposed strategy on benchmark datasets.

Binding memory of liquid molecules

Understanding the binding dynamics of liquid molecules is of fundamental importance in physical and life sciences. However, nanoscale fast dynamics pose great challenges for experimental characterization. Conventionally, the binding dynamics have been assumed to be memoryless. Here, we integrate large scale computer simulation, scaling theory, and real-time single particle tracking microscopy with high spatiotemporal precision to unveil a universal memory effect in the binding dynamics of liquid molecules. This binding memory can be quantified by a binding time autocorrelation function, whose power-law decay depends not only on the binding affinity, but also on the topological and materials properties of the surrounding environment. Context-dependent biomolecular binding memory is likely exploited by biological systems to regulate biochemical reactions and biophysical processes. Deciphering this binding memory offers a novel strategy to probe complex biological systems and advanced soft materials.

Uncovering an Interfacial Band Resulting from Orbital Hybridization in Nickelate Heterostructures

The interaction of atomic orbitals at the interface of perovskite oxide heterostructures has been investigated for its profound impact on the band structures and electronic properties, giving rise to unique electronic states and a variety of tunable functionalities. In this study, we conducted an extensive investigation of the optical and electronic properties of epitaxial NdNiO3 thin films grown on a series of single crystal substrates. Unlike films synthesized on other substrates, NdNiO3 on SrTiO3 (NNO/STO) gives rise to a unique band structure which features an additional unoccupied band situated above the Fermi level. Our comprehensive investigation, which incorporated a wide array of experimental techniques and density functional theory calculations, revealed that the emergence of the interfacial band structure is primarily driven by the orbital hybridization between Ti 3d orbitals of the STO substrate and O 2p orbitals of the NNO thin film. Furthermore, exciton peaks have been detected in the optical spectra of the NNO/STO film, attributable to the pronounced electron-electron (e-e) and electron-hole (e-h) interactions propagating from the STO substrate into the NNO film. These findings underscore the substantial influence of interfacial orbital hybridization on the electronic structure of oxide thin-films, thereby offering key insights into tuning their interfacial properties.

Orbital hybridization-driven charge density wave transition in CsV3Sb5 kagome superconductor

Owing to its inherent non-trivial geometry, the unique structural motif of the recently discovered Kagome topological superconductor AV3Sb5 is an ideal host of diverse topologically non-trivial phenomena, including giant anomalous Hall conductivity, topological charge order, charge density wave, and unconventional superconductivity. Despite possessing a normal-state CDW order in the form of topological chiral charge order and diverse superconducting gaps structures, it remains unclear how fundamental atomic-level properties and many-body effects including Fermi surface nesting, electron-phonon coupling, and orbital hybridization contribute to these symmetry-breaking phenomena. Here, we report the direct participation of the V3d-Sb5p orbital hybridization in mediating the CDW phase transition in CsV3Sb5. The combination of temperature-dependent X-ray absorption and first principles studies clearly indicate the Inverse Star of David structure as the preferred reconstruction in the low-temperature CDW phase. Our results highlight the critical role that Sb orbitals plays and establish orbital hybridization as the direct mediator of the CDW states and structural transition dynamics in Kagome unconventional superconductors. This is a significant step towards the fundamental understanding and control of the emerging correlated phases from the Kagome lattice through the orbital interactions and provide promising approaches to novel regimes in unconventional orders and topology.

Justification of the NLS approximation for ion Euler-Poisson equation

The nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation can be derived as a formal approximation equation describing the envelopes of slowly modulated spatially and temporarily oscillating wave packet-like solutions to the ion Euler-Poisson equation. In this paper, we rigorously justify such approximation by giving error estimates in Sobolev norms between exact solutions of the ion Euler-Poisson system and the formal approximation obtained via the NLS equation. The justification consists of several difficulties such as the resonances and loss of regularity, due to the quasilinearity of the problem. These difficulties are overcome by introducing normal form transformation and cutoff functions and carefully constructed energy functional of the equation.

The QKP limit of the quantum Euler-Poisson equation

In this paper, we consider the derivation of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation for cold ion-acoustic wave in the long wavelength limit of the two-dimensional quantum Euler-Poisson system, under different scalings for varying directions in the Gardner-Morikawa transform. It is shown that the types of the KP equation depend on the scaled quantum parameter $H>0$. The QKP-I is derived for $H>2$, QKP-II for $0<H<2$ and the dispersive-less KP (dKP) equation for the critical case $H=2$. The rigorous proof for these limits is given in the well-prepared initial data case, and the norm that is chosen to close the proof is anisotropic in the two directions, in accordance with the anisotropic structure of the KP equation as well as the Gardner-Morikawa transform. The results can be generalized in several directions.

Long wavelength limit for the quantum Euler-Poisson equation

In this paper, we consider the long wavelength limit for the quantum Euler-Poisson equation. Under the Gardner-Morikawa transform, we derive the quantum Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation by a singular perturbation method. We show that the KdV dynamics can be seen at time interval of order $O(ε^{-3/2})$. When the nondimensional quantum parameter $H=2$, it reduces to the inviscid Burgers equation.
