Global existence and stability of time-periodic solution to isentropic compressible Euler equations with source term

In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem of one-dimensional isentropic compressible Euler equations with the source term $βρ|u|^αu$. By means of wave decomposition and the uniform a-priori estimates, we prove the global existence of smooth solutions under small perturbations around the supersonic Fanno flow. Then, by Gronwall's inequality, we get the smooth solution is time-periodic.

GraftNet: Towards Domain Generalized Stereo Matching with a Broad-Spectrum and Task-Oriented Feature

Although supervised deep stereo matching networks have made impressive achievements, the poor generalization ability caused by the domain gap prevents them from being applied to real-life scenarios. In this paper, we propose to leverage the feature of a model trained on large-scale datasets to deal with the domain shift since it has seen various styles of images. With the cosine similarity based cost volume as a bridge, the feature will be grafted to an ordinary cost aggregation module. Despite the broad-spectrum representation, such a low-level feature contains much general information which is not aimed at stereo matching. To recover more task-specific information, the grafted feature is further input into a shallow network to be transformed before calculating the cost. Extensive experiments show that the model generalization ability can be improved significantly with this broad-spectrum and task-oriented feature. Specifically, based on two well-known architectures PSMNet and GANet, our methods are superior to other robust algorithms when transferring from SceneFlow to KITTI 2015, KITTI 2012, and Middlebury. Code is available at https://github.com/SpadeLiu/Graft-PSMNet.

Gated Domain-Invariant Feature Disentanglement for Domain Generalizable Object Detection

For Domain Generalizable Object Detection (DGOD), Disentangled Representation Learning (DRL) helps a lot by explicitly disentangling Domain-Invariant Representations (DIR) from Domain-Specific Representations (DSR). Considering the domain category is an attribute of input data, it should be feasible for networks to fit a specific mapping which projects DSR into feature channels exclusive to domain-specific information, and thus much cleaner disentanglement of DIR from DSR can be achieved simply on channel dimension. Inspired by this idea, we propose a novel DRL method for DGOD, which is termed Gated Domain-Invariant Feature Disentanglement (GDIFD). In GDIFD, a Channel Gate Module (CGM) learns to output channel gate signals close to either 0 or 1, which can mask out the channels exclusive to domain-specific information helpful for domain recognition. With the proposed GDIFD, the backbone in our framework can fit the desired mapping easily, which enables the channel-wise disentanglement. In experiments, we demonstrate that our approach is highly effective and achieves state-of-the-art DGOD performance.

Vacuum and singularity formation for compressible Euler equations with time-dependent damping

In this paper, vacuum and singularity formation are considered for compressible Euler equations with time-dependent damping. For $1<γ\leq 3$, by constructing some new control functions ingeniously, we obtain the lower bounds estimates on density for arbitrary classical solutions. Basing on these lower estimates, we succeed in proving the singular formation theorem for all $λ$, which was open in [1] for some cases. Moreover, the singularity formation of the compressible Euler equations when $γ=3$ is investigated, too.

Local Similarity Pattern and Cost Self-Reassembling for Deep Stereo Matching Networks

Although convolution neural network based stereo matching architectures have made impressive achievements, there are still some limitations: 1) Convolutional Feature (CF) tends to capture appearance information, which is inadequate for accurate matching. 2) Due to the static filters, current convolution based disparity refinement modules often produce over-smooth results. In this paper, we present two schemes to address these issues, where some traditional wisdoms are integrated. Firstly, we introduce a pairwise feature for deep stereo matching networks, named LSP (Local Similarity Pattern). Through explicitly revealing the neighbor relationships, LSP contains rich structural information, which can be leveraged to aid CF for more discriminative feature description. Secondly, we design a dynamic self-reassembling refinement strategy and apply it to the cost distribution and the disparity map respectively. The former could be equipped with the unimodal distribution constraint to alleviate the over-smoothing problem, and the latter is more practical. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is demonstrated via incorporating them into two well-known basic architectures, GwcNet and GANet-deep. Experimental results on the SceneFlow and KITTI benchmarks show that our modules significantly improve the performance of the model.

Transductive Few-Shot Classification on the Oblique Manifold

Few-shot learning (FSL) attempts to learn with limited data. In this work, we perform the feature extraction in the Euclidean space and the geodesic distance metric on the Oblique Manifold (OM). Specially, for better feature extraction, we propose a non-parametric Region Self-attention with Spatial Pyramid Pooling (RSSPP), which realizes a trade-off between the generalization and the discriminative ability of the single image feature. Then, we embed the feature to OM as a point. Furthermore, we design an Oblique Distance-based Classifier (ODC) that achieves classification in the tangent spaces which better approximate OM locally by learnable tangency points. Finally, we introduce a new method for parameters initialization and a novel loss function in the transductive settings. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm and it outperforms state-of-the-art methods on the popular benchmarks: mini-ImageNet, tiered-ImageNet, and Caltech-UCSD Birds-200-2011 (CUB).

Fractal Pyramid Networks

We propose a new network architecture, the Fractal Pyramid Networks (PFNs) for pixel-wise prediction tasks as an alternative to the widely used encoder-decoder structure. In the encoder-decoder structure, the input is processed by an encoding-decoding pipeline that tries to get a semantic large-channel feature. Different from that, our proposed PFNs hold multiple information processing pathways and encode the information to multiple separate small-channel features. On the task of self-supervised monocular depth estimation, even without ImageNet pretrained, our models can compete or outperform the state-of-the-art methods on the KITTI dataset with much fewer parameters. Moreover, the visual quality of the prediction is significantly improved. The experiment of semantic segmentation provides evidence that the PFNs can be applied to other pixel-wise prediction tasks, and demonstrates that our models can catch more global structure information.

BCNN: Binary Complex Neural Network

Binarized neural networks, or BNNs, show great promise in edge-side applications with resource limited hardware, but raise the concerns of reduced accuracy. Motivated by the complex neural networks, in this paper we introduce complex representation into the BNNs and propose Binary complex neural network -- a novel network design that processes binary complex inputs and weights through complex convolution, but still can harvest the extraordinary computation efficiency of BNNs. To ensure fast convergence rate, we propose novel BCNN based batch normalization function and weight initialization function. Experimental results on Cifar10 and ImageNet using state-of-the-art network models (e.g., ResNet, ResNetE and NIN) show that BCNN can achieve better accuracy compared to the original BNN models. BCNN improves BNN by strengthening its learning capability through complex representation and extending its applicability to complex-valued input data. The source code of BCNN will be released on GitHub.

Singularity formation for compressible Euler equations with time-dependent damping

In this paper, we consider the compressible Euler equations with time-dependent damping \frac{\a}{(1+t)^λ}u in one space dimension. By constructing 'decoupled' Riccati type equations for smooth solutions, we provide some sufficient conditions under which the classical solutions must break down in finite time. As a byproduct, we show that the derivatives blow up, somewhat like the formation of shock wave, if the derivatives of initial data are appropriately large at a point even when the damping coefficient goes to infinity with a algebraic growth rate. We study the case λ\neq1 and λ=1 respectively, moreover, our results have no restrictions on the size of solutions and the positivity/monotonicity of the initial Riemann invariants. In addition, for 1<γ<3 we provide time-dependent lower bounds on density for arbitrary classical solutions, without any additional assumptions on the initial data.

Oscillation of damped second order quasilinear wave equations with mixed arguments

Following the previous work [1], we investigate the impact of damping on the oscillation of smooth solutions to some kind of quasilinear wave equations with Robin and Dirichlet boundary condition. By using generalized Riccati transformation and technical inequality method, we give some sufficient conditions to guarantee the oscillation of all smooth solutions. From the results, we conclude that positive damping can ``hold back" oscillation. At last, some examples are presented to confirm our main results.

Global weak solutions to inviscid Burgers-Vlasov equations

In this paper, we consider the existence of global weak solutions to a one dimensional fluid-particles interaction model: inviscid Burgers-Vlasov equations with fluid velocity in $L^\infty$ and particles' probability density in $L^1$. Our weak solution is also an entropy solution to inviscid Burgers' equation. The approach is adding ingeniously artificial viscosity to construct approximate solutions satisfying $L^\infty$ compensated compactness framework and weak $L^1$ compactness framework. It is worthy to be pointed out that the bounds of fluid velocity and the kinetic energy of particles' probability density are both independent of time.

Attributes-aided Part Detection and Refinement for Person Re-identification

Person attributes are often exploited as mid-level human semantic information to help promote the performance of person re-identification task. In this paper, unlike most existing methods simply taking attribute learning as a classification problem, we perform it in a different way with the motivation that attributes are related to specific local regions, which refers to the perceptual ability of attributes. We utilize the process of attribute detection to generate corresponding attribute-part detectors, whose invariance to many influences like poses and camera views can be guaranteed. With detected local part regions, our model extracts local features to handle the body part misalignment problem, which is another major challenge for person re-identification. The local descriptors are further refined by fused attribute information to eliminate interferences caused by detection deviation. Extensive experiments on two popular benchmarks with attribute annotations demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and competitive performance compared with state-of-the-art algorithms.

Large time behavior of entropy solutions to one-dimensional unipolar hydrodynamic model for semiconductor devices

We are concerned with the global existence and large time behavior of entropy solutions to the one dimensional unipolar hydrodynamic model for semiconductors in the form of Euler-Poisson equations in a bounded interval. In this paper, we first prove the global existence of entropy solution by vanishing viscosity and compensated compactness framework. In particular, the solutions are uniformly bounded with respect to space and time variables by introducing modified Riemann invariants and the theory of invariant region. Based on the uniform estimates of density, we further show that the entropy solution converges to the corresponding unique stationary solution exponentially in time. No any smallness condition is assumed on the initial data and doping profile. Moreover, the novelty in this paper is about the unform bound with respect to time for the weak solutions of the isentropic Euler-Possion system.

Multiple positive solutions to third-order three-point singular semipositone boundary value problem

By using a specially constructed cone and the fixed point index theory, this paper investigates the existence of multiple positive solutions for the third-order three-point singular semipositone BVP: $\begin{cases} x'''(t)-\ld f(t,x) =0, &t\in(0,1); [.3pc] x(0)=x'(η)=x''(1)=0, & \end{cases}$ where ${1/2}<η<1$, the non-linear term $f(t,x):(0,1)\times(0,+ı)\to (-ı,+ı)$ is continuous and may be singular at $t=0$, $t=1$, and $x=0$, also may be negative for some values of $t$ and $x$, $\ld$ is a positive parameter.
