The Selfish Higgs and Reheating

We consider the cosmological relaxation of the Higgs mass and the cosmological constant due to the four-form fluxes in four dimensions. We present a general class of models with a singlet scalar field containing four-form couplings where the Higgs mass is relaxed to a right value and the Universe reheats to a sufficiently high reheating temperature after the last membrane nucleation. We also discuss some of interesting features in the cases of singlet scalar fields with non-minimal or minimal couplings to gravity and show how the new scalar fields can play a role for dark matter production.

Chaotic inflation with four-form couplings

We consider chaotic inflation models with a pseudo-scalar field containing the general couplings to the four-form flux. The four-form mixing with the pseudo-scalar field induces a quadratic potential for inflaton while the coexisting four-form mixing with graviton generates a non-minimal gravity coupling for inflaton. The shift symmetry is respected by the derived inflaton couplings and it is broken spontaneously only by the fixed four-form flux. We discuss the success of inflationary predictions and robustness against higher order terms. Finally, the built-in reheating mechanism is also addressed.

Relaxation of Higgs mass and cosmological constant with four-form fluxes and reheating

We consider the most general effective action for the four-form fluxes in the Standard Model coupled to gravity. The Higgs mass parameter can be relaxed to a correct value due to the four-form coupling to the Higgs field and it stops changing due to an extremely suppressed transition probability from the observed cosmological constant to AdS space. We first introduce a non-minimal four-form coupling to gravity and discuss the role of a new scalar field as the inflaton and the conditions for a successful reheating at the end of relaxation.

Unitary inflaton as decaying dark matter

We consider the inflation model of a singlet scalar field (sigma field) with both quadratic and linear non-minimal couplings where unitarity is ensured up to the Planck scale. We assume that a $Z_2$ symmetry for the sigma field is respected by the scalar potential in Jordan frame but it is broken explicitly by the linear non-minimal coupling due to quantum gravity. We discuss the impacts of the linear non-minimal coupling on various dynamics from inflation to low energy, such as a sizable tensor-to-scalar ratio, a novel reheating process with quartic potential dominance, and suppressed physical parameters in the low energy, etc. In particular, the linear non-minimal coupling leads to the linear couplings of the sigma field to the Standard Model through the trace of the energy-momentum tensor in Einstein frame. Thus, regarding the sigma field as a decaying dark matter, we consider the non-thermal production mechanisms for dark matter from the decays of Higgs and inflaton condensate and show the parameter space that is compatible with the correct relic density and cosmological constraints.

Vector SIMP dark matter with approximate custodial symmetry

We consider a novel scenario for Vector Strongly Interacting Massive Particle (VSIMP) dark matter with local $SU(2)_X\times U(1)_{Z'}$ symmetry in the dark sector. Similarly to the Standard Model, after the dark symmetry is broken spontaneously by the VEVs of dark Higgs fields, the approximate custodial symmetry determines comparable but split masses for $SU(2)_X$ gauge bosons. In this model, we show that $U(1)_{Z'}$-charged gauge boson of $SU(2)_X$ ($X_\pm$) becomes a natural candidate for SIMP dark matter, annihilating through $3\rightarrow 2$ or forbidden $2\rightarrow 2$ annihilations due to gauge self-interactions. On the other hand, the $U(1)_{Z'}$-neutral gauge boson of $SU(2)_X$ achieves the kinetic equilibrium of dark matter through a gauge kinetic mixing between $U(1)_{Z'}$ and Standard Model. We present the parameter space for the correct relic density in our model and discuss in detail the current constraints and projections from colliders and direct detection experiments.

Weyl gauge symmetry and its spontaneous breaking in Standard Model and inflation

We discuss the local (gauged) Weyl symmetry and its spontaneous breaking and apply it to model building beyond the Standard Model (SM) and inflation. In models with non-minimal couplings of the scalar fields to the Ricci scalar, that are conformal invariant, the spontaneous generation by a scalar field(s) vev of a positive Newton constant demands a negative kinetic term for the scalar field, or vice-versa. This is naturally avoided in models with additional Weyl gauge symmetry. The Weyl gauge field $ω_μ$ couples to the scalar sector but not to the fermionic sector of a SM-like Lagrangian. The field $ω_μ$ undergoes a Stueckelberg mechanism and becomes massive after "eating" the (radial mode) would-be-Goldstone field (dilaton $ρ$) in the scalar sector. Before the decoupling of $ω_μ$, the dilaton can act as UV regulator and maintain the Weyl symmetry at the {\it quantum} level, with relevance for solving the hierarchy problem. After the decoupling of $ω_μ$, the scalar potential depends only on the remaining (angular variables) scalar fields, that can be the Higgs field, inflaton, etc. We show that successful inflation is then possible with one of these scalar fields identified as the inflaton. While our approach is derived in the Riemannian geometry with $ω_μ$ introduced to avoid ghosts, the natural framework is that of Weyl geometry which for the same matter spectrum is shown to generate the same Lagrangian, up to a total derivative.

Unitarizing SIMP scenario with dark vector resonances

Dark pion is the one of the most natural and realistic model to make $3 \rightarrow 2$ contact interactions among models of the Strongly Interacting Massive Particle (SIMP). In this model, there is a perturbativity problem to satisfy the relic density with the self-annihilation. So we show the perturbativity problem can be alleviated and the SIMP pion model become more realistic by including dark vector mesons.

Dark matter direct detection with spin-2 mediators

We consider models where a massive spin-two resonance acts as the mediator between Dark Matter (DM) and the SM particles through the energy-momentum tensor. We examine the effective theory for fermion, vector and scalar DM generated in these models and find novel types of DM-SM interaction never considered before. We identify the effective interactions between DM and the SM quarks when the mediator is integrated out, and match them to the gravitational form factors relevant for spin-independent DM-nucleon scattering. We also discuss the interplay between DM relic density conditions, direct detection bounds and collider searches for the spin-two mediator.

Lepto-Quark Portal Dark Matter

We consider the extension of the Standard Model with scalar leptoquarks as a portal to dark matter (DM), motivated by the recent anomalies in semi-leptonic $B$-meson decays. Taking singlet and triplet scalar leptoquarks as the best scenarios for explaining $B$-meson anomalies, we discuss the phenomenological constraints from rare meson decays, muon $(g-2)_μ$, and leptoquark searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Introducing leptoquark couplings to scalar dark matter, we find that the DM annihilations into a pair of leptoquarks open a wide parameter space, being compatible with XENON1T bound, and show that there is an interesting interplay between LHC leptoquark searches and distinct signatures from cascade annihilations of dark matter.

Axino abundances in high-scale supersymmetry

We consider the thermal production of axino dark matter in high-scale supersymmetry where all the superpartners except the axino are heavier than the maximum and reheating temperatures. In this case, the axinos are produced dominantly in pairs from the scattering of SM particles in thermal plasma in the early Universe after inflation. We find that the thermal averaged scattering cross section for the axino pair production is given by $\langleσv\rangle \propto T^4$ in Kim-Shifman-Vainstein-Zakharov (KSVZ) axion model, while it does not depend on the temperature in Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitski (DFSZ) axion model. As a result, the axinos produced during the early matter domination is diluted by the entropy production, so the axino abundance is determined mainly by the reheating temperature, unlike the case with gravitino dark matter. We show that the axino pair production in DFSZ model opens up new parameter space for axino dark matter, due to non-decoupled Higgsino interactions at tree level.

Resolving phenomenological problems with strongly-interacting-massive-particle models with dark vector resonances

We consider a light dark matter candidate which is produced by the freeze-out mechanism with $3\rightarrow2$ annihilations, the so called Strongly Interacting Massive Particles (SIMPs). SIMPs are identified as dark pions in dark chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) where both light mass and strong coupling needed for SIMPs can be realized by strong dynamics. In QCD-like theories with $SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R /SU(3)_V$ flavor symmetry, including dark vector mesons in the hidden local symmetry scheme, we illustrate that dark vector mesons unitarize the dark ChPT efficiently, thus determine the correct relic density condition within the validity of the dark ChPT.

Light inflaton completing Higgs inflation

We consider the extension of the Standard Model (SM) with a light inflaton where both unitarity problem in Higgs inflation and vacuum instability problem are resolved. The linear non-minimal coupling of the inflaton to gravity leads to a significant kinetic mixing between the inflaton and the graviton such that perturbative unitarity is restored up to Planck scale. We show the correlation between unitarity scale and inflationary observables in this model and discuss how the effective Higgs inflation appears.

$B$-meson anomalies and Higgs physics in flavored $U(1)'$ model

We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model with flavor-dependent $U(1)'$, that has been proposed to explain some of $B$-meson anomalies recently reported at LHCb. The $U(1)'$ charge is chosen as a linear combination of anomaly-free $B_3-L_3$ and $L_μ-L_τ$. In this model, the flavor structure in the SM is restricted due to flavor-dependent $U(1)'$ charges, in particular, quark mixings are induced by a small vacuum expectation value of the extra Higgs doublet. As a result, it is natural to get sizable flavor-violating Yukawa couplings of heavy Higgs bosons involving the bottom quark. In this article, we focus on the phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the model including extra Higgs doublet and singlet scalars. We impose various bounds on the extended Higgs sector from Higgs and electroweak precision data, $B$-meson mixings and decays as well as unitarity and stability bounds, then discuss the productions and decays of heavy Higgs bosons at the LHC.

Gauged $U(1)$ Clockwork

We review the gauged $U(1)$ clockwork models as portals for new physics to obtain effectively hierarchical couplings of the Standard Model (SM) particles from genuine couplings of order one. Nearest-neighbor mass mixing between multiple $U(1)$ gauge bosons lead to the localization of the zero mode gauge boson, realizing the milicharged gauge boson in the effective theory. We discuss some of interesting examples utilizing the gauged clockwork beyond the SM.

Gauged $U(1)$ Clockwork Theory

We consider the gauged $U(1)$ clockwork theory with a product of multiple gauge groups and discuss the continuum limit of the theory to a massless gauged $U(1)$ with linear dilaton background in five dimensions. The localization of the lightest state of gauge fields on a site in the theory space naturally leads to exponentially small effective couplings of external matter fields localized away from the site. We discuss the implications of our general discussion with some examples, such as mediators of dark matter interactions, flavor-changing $B$-meson decays as well as D-term SUSY breaking.

Vector SIMP dark matter

Strongly Interacting Massive Particles (SIMPs) have recently been proposed as light thermal dark matter relics. Here we consider an explicit realization of the SIMP mechanism in the form of vector SIMPs arising from an $SU(2)_X$ hidden gauge theory, where the accidental custodial symmetry protects the stability of the dark matter. We propose several ways of equilibrating the dark and visible sectors in this setup. In particular, we show that a light dark Higgs portal can maintain thermal equilibrium between the two sectors, as can a massive dark vector portal with its generalized Chern-Simons couplings to the vector SIMPs, all while remaining consistent with experimental constraints.

A minimal flavored $U(1)'$ for $B$-meson anomalies

We consider an anomaly-free $U(1)'$ model with favorable couplings to heavy flavors in the Standard Model(SM), as motivated by $B$-meson anomalies at LHCb. Taking the $U(1)'$ charge to be $Q'=y(L_μ-L_τ)+ x(B_3-L_3)$, we can explain the $B$-meson anomalies without invoking extra charged fermions or flavor violation beyond the SM. We show that there is a viable parameter space with a small $x$ that is compatible with other meson decays, tau lepton and neutrino experiments as well as the LHC dimuon searches. We briefly discuss the prospects of discovering the $Z'$ gauge boson at the LHC in the proposed model.
