Hierarchical Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning for Carbon-Aware AI Data Centers in Power Distribution Systems

Eco-friendly energy management for artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs) is crucial because of the significant increase in energy consumption-induced carbon emissions from AIDCs resulting from the rapid expansion of AI applications. This paper proposes a hierarchical carbon-aware multi-agent reinforcement learning (CA-MARL) framework for robust and efficient operations of AIDCs under uncertainties while ensuring low-carbon operation of power distribution systems. The framework comprises a workload manager (WM) agent and multiple local AIDC agents trained using a multi-agent transformer method, corresponding to a global AIDC aggregator and a local AIDC operator, respectively. Leveraging AIDC operation data along with nodal carbon intensity (NCI) calculated from the carbon emission flow-integrated distribution system operator problem, the WM agent spatially allocates AI training and inference jobs among all AIDCs. Based on the jobs allocated from the WM agent and NCI information, each AIDC agent schedules economical and eco-friendly operations of the AIDC by performing the following tasks: i) temporal shifting of training jobs, ii) spatial allocation of training graphics processing unit (GPU) blocks and inference GPUs within the AIDC, and iii) control of the supply air temperature of the cooling system. The effectiveness of the proposed framework was assessed using an IEEE 33-node power distribution system.

Accelerated Likelihood Maximization for Diffusion-based Versatile Content Generation

Generating diverse, coherent, and plausible content from partially given inputs remains a fundamental challenge for diffusion models. Existing approaches face clear limitations: training-based approaches offer strong task-specific results but require costly computation, and they generalize poorly across tasks. Training-free approaches offer better efficiency, but they do not explicitly optimize over unobserved variables, leading to globally inconsistent results. To address these limitations, we introduce Accelerated Likelihood Maximization (ALM), a novel training-free sampling strategy integrated into the reverse diffusion process that significantly extends the applicability of diffusion models beyond simple generation tasks. Unlike previous methods that implicitly influence missing regions through pre-generated region constraints, we directly optimize the unobserved region during the sampling process, enabling globally coherent and plausible generation. Furthermore, we incorporate an acceleration strategy that significantly improves computational efficiency without sacrificing performance. Experimental results demonstrate that ALM consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in various data domains and tasks, establishing a powerful paradigm for versatile content generation.

Variational Test-time Optimization for Diffusion Synchronization

Collaborative generation, which coordinates multiple diffusion trajectories to extend the capabilities of pretrained priors, has emerged as a powerful paradigm for extending the applicability of diffusion models. Among existing approaches, diffusion synchronization provides a scenario-agnostic solution by introducing general guidance mechanisms. However, current synchronization approaches rely heavily on heuristics and still require task-specific tailoring, which limits their generalizability and performance. In this work, we mathematically derive a synchronization framework based on optimal control, providing a principled explanation of diffusion synchronization. During sampling, we optimize control variables to guide multiple trajectories toward coherent solutions while remaining close to the underlying diffusion prior. Our method operates entirely at test-time without additional training, thereby enabling broad applicability across diverse generation scenarios when combined with strong pretrained priors. We demonstrate consistent improvements over baselines on three representative collaborative generation tasks, covering a wide range of modalities and applications. Beyond performance gains, our work establishes a novel foundation for collaborative generation, opening a principled path toward extending pretrained generative models to new collaborative generation settings.

Image-Guided Geometric Stylization of 3D Meshes

Recent generative models can create visually plausible 3D representations of objects. However, the generation process often allows for implicit control signals, such as contextual descriptions, and rarely supports bold geometric distortions beyond existing data distributions. We propose a geometric stylization framework that deforms a 3D mesh, allowing it to express the style of an image. While style is inherently ambiguous, we utilize pre-trained diffusion models to extract an abstract representation of the provided image. Our coarse-to-fine stylization pipeline can drastically deform the input 3D model to express a diverse range of geometric variations while retaining the valid topology of the original mesh and part-level semantics. We also propose an approximate VAE encoder that provides efficient and reliable gradients from mesh renderings. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method can create stylized 3D meshes that reflect unique geometric features of the pictured assets, such as expressive poses and silhouettes, thereby supporting the creation of distinctive artistic 3D creations. A general statistical framework for vacancy and self-interstitial properties in concentrated multicomponent solids

A rigorous understanding of the thermodynamic properties of point defects, namely vacancies and self-interstitials, is crucial for the discovery and screening of structural materials in clean energy applications. In this work, we extend a previously-developed statistical framework for predicting the thermodynamics of single-site impurities to further predict the thermodynamics of self-interstitial dumbbells in an arbitrarily complex alloy. We then apply this extended framework to compute effective formation energies in fully disordered Fe-Cr and Cu-Ni alloys. Notably, we predict that some self-interstitial dumbbell types that are high-energy in pure Fe become stabilized by Cr. We additionally describe a symmetry-breaking effect, wherein high solute concentrations distort the defect free energy surface, yielding misaligned self-interstitials.

Calibrated Test-Time Guidance for Bayesian Inference

Test-time guidance is a widely used mechanism for steering pretrained diffusion models toward outcomes specified by a reward function. Existing approaches, however, focus on maximizing reward rather than sampling from the true Bayesian posterior, leading to miscalibrated inference. In this work, we show that common test-time guidance methods do not recover the correct posterior distribution and identify the structural approximations responsible for this failure. We then propose consistent alternative estimators that enable calibrated sampling from the Bayesian posterior. We significantly outperform previous methods on a set of Bayesian inference tasks, and set a new state-of-the-art PSNR in black hole image reconstruction.

Point2Pose: A Generative Framework for 3D Human Pose Estimation with Multi-View Point Cloud Dataset

We propose a novel generative approach for 3D human pose estimation. 3D human pose estimation poses several key challenges due to the complex geometry of the human body, self-occluding joints, and the requirement for large-scale real-world motion datasets. To address these challenges, we introduce Point2Pose, a framework that effectively models the distribution of human poses conditioned on sequential point cloud and pose history. Specifically, we employ a spatio-temporal point cloud encoder and a pose feature encoder to extract joint-wise features, followed by an attention-based generative regressor. Additionally, we present a large-scale indoor dataset MVPose3D, which contains multiple modalities, including IMU data of non-trivial human motions, dense multi-view point clouds, and RGB images. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the baseline models, demonstrating its superior performance across various datasets.

Low-Resolution Editing is All You Need for High-Resolution Editing

High-resolution content creation is rapidly emerging as a central challenge in both the vision and graphics communities. Images serve as the most fundamental modality for visual expression, and content generation that aligns with the user intent requires effective, controllable high-resolution image manipulation mechanisms. However, existing approaches remain limited to low-resolution settings, typically supporting only up to 1K resolution. In this work, we introduce the task of high-resolution image editing and propose a test-time optimization framework to address it. Our method performs patch-wise optimization on high-resolution source images, followed by a fine-grained detail transfer module and a novel synchronization strategy to maintain consistency across patches. Extensive experiments show that our method produces high-quality edits, facilitating high-resolution content creation.

AssurAI: Experience with Constructing Korean Socio-cultural Datasets to Discover Potential Risks of Generative AI

The rapid evolution of generative AI necessitates robust safety evaluations. However, current safety datasets are predominantly English-centric, failing to capture specific risks in non-English, socio-cultural contexts such as Korean, and are often limited to the text modality. To address this gap, we introduce AssurAI, a new quality-controlled Korean multimodal dataset for evaluating the safety of generative AI. First, we define a taxonomy of 35 distinct AI risk factors, adapted from established frameworks by a multidisciplinary expert group to cover both universal harms and relevance to the Korean socio-cultural context. Second, leveraging this taxonomy, we construct and release AssurAI, a large-scale Korean multimodal dataset comprising 11,480 instances across text, image, video, and audio. Third, we apply the rigorous quality control process used to ensure data integrity, featuring a two-phase construction (i.e., expert-led seeding and crowdsourced scaling), triple independent annotation, and an iterative expert red-teaming loop. Our pilot study validates AssurAI's effectiveness in assessing the safety of recent LLMs. We release AssurAI to the public to facilitate the development of safer and more reliable generative AI systems for the Korean community.

SyncSDE: A Probabilistic Framework for Diffusion Synchronization

There have been many attempts to leverage multiple diffusion models for collaborative generation, extending beyond the original domain. A prominent approach involves synchronizing multiple diffusion trajectories by mixing the estimated scores to artificially correlate the generation processes. However, existing methods rely on naive heuristics, such as averaging, without considering task specificity. These approaches do not clarify why such methods work and often produce suboptimal results when a heuristic suitable for one task is blindly applied to others. In this paper, we present a probabilistic framework for analyzing why diffusion synchronization works and reveal where heuristics should be focused; modeling correlations between multiple trajectories and adapting them to each specific task. We further identify optimal correlation models per task, achieving better results than previous approaches that apply a single heuristic across all tasks without justification.

Diffusion-Based Conditional Image Editing through Optimized Inference with Guidance

We present a simple but effective training-free approach for text-driven image-to-image translation based on a pretrained text-to-image diffusion model. Our goal is to generate an image that aligns with the target task while preserving the structure and background of a source image. To this end, we derive the representation guidance with a combination of two objectives: maximizing the similarity to the target prompt based on the CLIP score and minimizing the structural distance to the source latent variable. This guidance improves the fidelity of the generated target image to the given target prompt while maintaining the structure integrity of the source image. To incorporate the representation guidance component, we optimize the target latent variable of diffusion model's reverse process with the guidance. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves outstanding image-to-image translation performance on various tasks when combined with the pretrained Stable Diffusion model.

Conditional Score Guidance for Text-Driven Image-to-Image Translation

We present a novel algorithm for text-driven image-to-image translation based on a pretrained text-to-image diffusion model. Our method aims to generate a target image by selectively editing the regions of interest in a source image, defined by a modifying text, while preserving the remaining parts. In contrast to existing techniques that solely rely on a target prompt, we introduce a new score function that additionally considers both the source image and the source text prompt, tailored to address specific translation tasks. To this end, we derive the conditional score function in a principled manner, decomposing it into the standard score and a guiding term for target image generation. For the gradient computation of the guiding term, we assume a Gaussian distribution of the posterior distribution and estimate its mean and variance to adjust the gradient without additional training. In addition, to improve the quality of the conditional score guidance, we incorporate a simple yet effective mixup technique, which combines two cross-attention maps derived from the source and target latents. This strategy is effective for promoting a desirable fusion of the invariant parts in the source image and the edited regions aligned with the target prompt, leading to high-fidelity target image generation. Through comprehensive experiments, we demonstrate that our approach achieves outstanding image-to-image translation performance on various tasks.

Situation-Aware Deep Reinforcement Learning for Autonomous Nonlinear Mobility Control in Cyber-Physical Loitering Munition Systems

According to the rapid development of drone technologies, drones are widely used in many applications including military domains. In this paper, a novel situation-aware DRL- based autonomous nonlinear drone mobility control algorithm in cyber-physical loitering munition applications. On the battlefield, the design of DRL-based autonomous control algorithm is not straightforward because real-world data gathering is generally not available. Therefore, the approach in this paper is that cyber-physical virtual environment is constructed with Unity environment. Based on the virtual cyber-physical battlefield scenarios, a DRL-based automated nonlinear drone mobility control algorithm can be designed, evaluated, and visualized. Moreover, many obstacles exist which is harmful for linear trajectory control in real-world battlefield scenarios. Thus, our proposed autonomous nonlinear drone mobility control algorithm utilizes situation-aware components those are implemented with a Raycast function in Unity virtual scenarios. Based on the gathered situation-aware information, the drone can autonomously and nonlinearly adjust its trajectory during flight. Therefore, this approach is obviously beneficial for avoiding obstacles in obstacle-deployed battlefields. Our visualization-based performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm is superior from the other linear mobility control algorithms.
