Complete lowest order radiative corrections in semi-inclusive scattering of polarized particles

The lowest order radiative corrections to the cross section and asymmetries measured in experiments on semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of polarized particles were calculated. Both exact and leading log expressions were presented and discussed for the total correction that include the contributions from the processes of (i) real photon emission with semi-inclusive processes, (ii) loop diagrams, and (iii) real photon emission with exclusive processes. Radiative corrections to the Sivers and Collins asymmetries in $π^+$ electroproduction were studied numerically within the kinematical conditions of modern experimental environments at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab). The Wandzura-Wilczek approximation for the semi-inclusive structure functions and MAID2007 parameterization for the six amplitudes of exclusive processes were used in numeric analyses. The results show that (i) radiative effects can generate a correction comparable to the size of Sivers and Collins asymmetries at the Born level, (ii) there is good agreement between the exact and leading-order corrections, (iii) external functions (that is, other than the Sivers and Collins functions in the respective asymmetries) can generate a contribution to the radiative correction up to 20\%, and (iv) there exists a strong dependence of the radiative correction on the models for semi-inclusive and exclusive structure functions.

ESFRAD. FORTRAN code for calculation of QED corrections to polarized ep-scattering by the electron structure function method

The main features of the electron structure function method for calculations of the higher order QED radiative effects to polarized deep-inelastic ep-scattering are presented. A new FORTRAN code ESFRAD based on this method was developed. A detailed quantitative comparison between the results of ESFRAD and other methods implemented in the codes POLRAD and RADGEN for calculation of the higher order radiative corrections is performed.

Monte Carlo generator ELRADGEN 2.0 for simulation of radiative events in elastic ep-scattering of polarized particles

The structure and algorithms of the Monte-Carlo generator ELRADGEN 2.0 designed to simulate radiative events in polarized ep-scattering are presented. The full set of analytical expressions for the QED radiative corrections is presented and discussed in detail. Algorithmic improvements implemented to provide faster simulation of hard real photon events are described. Numerical tests show high quality of generation of photonic variables and radiatively corrected cross section. The comparison of the elastic radiative tail simulated within the kinematical conditions of the BLAST experiment at MIT BATES shows a good agreement with experimental data.

ELRADGEN 2.0: Monte Carlo generator for simulation of radiative events in polarized elastic electron-proton scattering

A new version of Monte Carlo generator ELRADGEN for simulation of real photon emission in elastic electron-proton scattering is presented. The extensions in the new version include opportunity to deal with polarized particles: longitudinally polarized electron and arbitrary polarized proton. Simulation strategy, specifications of used kinematics, structure of the contributions to the observed cross section, cross-checks, and numerical results for BLAST experimental setup are presented and briefly discussed.

Lowest order QED radiative corrections to five-fold differential cross section of hadron leptoproduction

The contribution of exclusive radiative tail to the cross section of semi-inclusive hadron leptoproduction has been calculated exactly for the first time. Although the experience of inclusive data analyses suggests us that the contribution of radiative tail from the elastic peak is of particular importance, similar effects in the semi-inclusive process were only recently estimated in the peaking approximation. The explicit expressions for the lepton part of the lowest order QED contribution of exclusive radiative tail to the five-fold differential cross section are obtained and discussed. Numerical estimates, provided within Jefferson Lab kinematic conditions, demonstrate rather large effects of the exclusive radiative tail in the region at semi-inclusive threshold and for high energy of detected hadron.

Linear Latent Structure Analysis: from Foundations to Algorithms and Applications

A new statistical technique for constructing linear latent structure (LLS) models from available data, supported by well established theoretical results and an efficient algorithm, is presented. The method reduces the problem of estimating LLS model parameters to a sequence of linear algebra problems. This assures a low computational complexity and an ability to handle large scale data that involve thousands of variables. An overall computational scheme and all its components are discussed in detail. Simulation experiments demonstrate the excellent performance of the algorithm in reconstructing model parameters. Step-by-step analysis of a demographic survey is presented as an example. The technique is useful for the analysis of high-dimensional categorical data (e.g., demographic surveys, gene expression data) where the detection, evaluation, and interpretation of a underlying latent structure are required.

Frailty Index as a Major Indicator of Aging Processes and Mortality in Elderly: Results From Analyses of the National Long Term Care Survey Data

To better understand mortality change with age capturing the variability in individuals' rates of aging, we performed comprehensive analysis of statistical properties of a cumulative index of age-associated disorders (deficits), called a "frailty index" (FI). This index is calculated as the proportion of the health deficits in an individual. It is found, first, that frequency, time-to-death, mortality-rate, and relative-risk-of-death exhibit remarkably similar FI- and age- patterns. Second, the FI, on the one hand, and mortality rate and relative risk, on the other hand, also exhibit similar age patterns with accelerated increase up to oldest-old ages and with subsequent deceleration and even decline. Third, distribution of the FI with time-to-death is sharper than that of age with time-to-death. These and related findings support the conclusion that the FI can describe aging processes and population heterogeneity. We also discuss the ability of the FI to capture physiological processes underlying aging both on individual and population levels.

Age-Associated Disorders As A Proxy Measure Of Biological Age: Findings From the NLTCS Data

Background: The relative contribution of different aging-associated processes to the age phenotype may differ among individuals, creating variability in aging manifestations among age-peers. Capturing this variability can significantly advance understanding the aging and mortality. An index of age-associated health disorders (deficits), called a "frailty index" (FI), appears to be a promising characteristic of such processes. In this study we address the connections of the FI with age focusing on disabled individuals who might be at excessive risk of frailty. Methods: The National Long Term Care Survey (NLTCS) assessed health and functioning of the U.S. elderly in 1982, 1984, 1989, 1994, and 1999. Detailed information for our sample was assessed from about 26,700 interviews. The individual FI is defined as a proportion of deficits for a given person. We perform cross-sectional empirical analysis of the FI age-patterns. Results: FI in the NLTCS exhibits accelerated (quadratic) increase with age. Deficits might accumulate faster among the elderly who, at younger ages, had a low mean FI ("healthy" group) than a high FI ("disabled" group). Age-patterns for "healthy" and "disabled" groups converge at advanced ages. The rate of deficit accumulation is sex-sensitive. Convergence of the (sex-specific) FI for "healthy" and "disabled" groups in later ages determines biological age limits, associated with given levels of health-maintenance in the society, which correspond to 109.4 years for females and 92.5 years for males. Conclusions: The FI can be employed as a measure of biological age and population heterogeneity for modeling aging processes and mortality in elderly individuals.

An alternative calculation of the lowest order electroweak radiative corrections to the single W-boson production in hadron-hadron collision in the framework of the quark parton model without any absorption of the collinear quark singularity into the parton distributions is carried out. Numerical analysis under Tevatron and LHC kinematic conditions is performed.

QED correction to asymmetry for polarized ep-scattering from the method of the electron structure functions

The electron structure function method is applied to calculate model-independent radiative corrections to an asymmetry of electron-proton scattering. The representations for both spin-independent and spin-dependent parts of the cross-section are derived. Master formulae take into account the leading corrections in all orders and the main contribution of the second order next-to-leading ones and have accuracy at the level of one per mille. Numerical calculations illustrate our analytical results for both elastic and deep inelastic events.

Radiative effects in scattering of polarized leptons by polarized nucleons and light nuclei

Recent developments in the field of radiative effects in polarized lepton-nuclear scattering are reviewed. The processes of inclusive, semi-inclusive, diffractive and elastic scattering are considered. The explicit formulae obtained within the covariant approach are discussed. FORTRAN codes POLRAD, RADGEN, HAPRAD, DIFFRAD and MASCARAD created on the basis of the formulae are briefly described. Applications for data analysis of the current experiments on lepton-nuclear scattering at CERN, DESY, SLAC and TJNAF are illustrated by numerical results.

Next-to-leading order mass effects in QCD Compton process of polarized DIS

The method originally developed for the exact calculations in QED theory is applied for the calculation of NLO effects in QCD Compton processes. QCD corrections to the structure functions and sum rules are obtained. Different interpretations of the NLO effects due to finite quark mass are discussed.

Radiative Corrections to Polarized Inelastic Scattering in Coincidence

The coplete analysis of the model-independent leading radiative corrections to cross-section and polarization observables in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic electron-nucleus scattering with detection of a proton and scattered electron in coincidence has been performed. The basis of the calculations consists of the Drell-Yan like representation in electrodynamics for both spin-independent and spin-dependent parts of the cross-section in terms of the electron structure functions. The applications to the polarization transfer effect from longitudinally polarized electron beam to detected proton as well as to scattering by the polarized target are considered.

Single-spin asymmetry in DVCS: fragmentation region of polarised lepton

For the kinematical region when a hard photon is emitted predominantly close to the direction of motion of a longitudinally polarized initial electron and relatively small momentum transfer to a proton we calculate the azimuthal asymmetry of photon emission. It arises from the interference of the Bethe-Heitler amplitude and those which are described by a heavy photon impact factor. Azimuthal asymmetry does not decrease in the limit of infinite cms energy. Lowest order expression for the impact factor of a heavy photon is presented.

Model independent radiative corrections in processes of polarized electron-nucleon elastic scattering

The explicit formulae for radiative correction (RC) calculation for elastic $ep$-scattering is presented. Two typical measurements of polarization observables such as beam-target asymmetry or recoil proton polarization, are considered. Possibilities to take into account realistic experimental acceptances are discussed. The Fortran code MASCARAD for providing the RC procedure is presented. Numerical analysis is done for kinematical conditions of TJNAF.
