Single vector leptoquark production at hadron colliders due to direct lepton-gluon interaction

The cross section of single vector leptoquark production in direct lepton-gluon interaction is calculated. In a model independent analysis an effective Lagrangian describing the most general $C$ and $P$ conserving coupling of the leptoquarks to gluons is considered. An analytical expression is derived for the cross section in the case of anomalous vector leptoquark couplings to the gluon field. The cross sections of inclusive production of ($eq$)-, ($μq$)- and ($τq$)-type vector leptoquarks in $ep$ and $pp$ collisions due to direct lepton-gluon interaction are evaluated for $q=u, b, t$. Dependences of the cross sections on the anomalous couplings are investigated. The obtained results can be useful for studies at $ep$ colliders and the LHC.

Production of heavy vector particles in interactions of leptons with the massless gauge bosons

The cross section for vector leptoquark production in electron--gluon collisions is calculated analytically using the Lagrangian with the minimal couplings between the leptoquarks and the gauge fields of the standard model. It is found that the cross section significantly exceeds the corresponding quantity previously presented in the literature. The cross section of exclusive $W$ boson production in neutrino--photon scattering emerges as a by-product of this letter. The obtained results can be used for studies at $ep$ colliders.

Exclusive production of pseudoscalar mesons in neutrino-photon interactions

Exclusive production of the $π$ mesons in neutrino--photon interactions at low momentum transfer is studied within the standard model. The corresponding cross sections are calculated analytically. Potential astrophysical implications and the significance for testing the standard model are discussed. The presented formalism applies to other pseudoscalar mesons as well.

On parton distributions in a photon gas

In some cases it may be useful to know parton distributions in a photon gas. This may be relevant, e.g., for the analysis of interactions of high energy cosmic ray particles with the cosmic microwave background radiation. The latter can be considered as a gas of photons with an almost perfect blackbody spectrum. An approach to finding such parton distributions is described. The survival probability of ultra-high energy neutrinos traveling through this radiation is calculated.

Lateral distribution function of high energy muons in EAS around the knee

The lateral distribution function of high energy muons in EAS around the knee ($5.9\le \lg N_e \le 7.1$) has been measured for near vertical showers ($θ\le 20^{\circ}$, effective muon threshold energy is 230 GeV). The measurements have been performed at the Baksan Underground Scintillation Telescope (BUST). The electromagnetic component is measured by the "Andyrchy" EAS array, located above the BUST. The knee in EAS size spectrum is found to be at $\lg N_e \approx 6.3$. The experimental results are compared with Monte Carlo simulations.

Parton content of the real photon: astrophysical implications

We possess convincing experimental evidence for the fact that the real photon has non-trivial parton structure. On the other hand, interactions of the cosmic microwave background photons with high energy particles propagating through the Universe play an important role in astrophysics. In this context, to invoke the parton content could be convenient for calculations of the probabilities of different processes involving these photons. As an example, the cross section of inclusive resonant $W^+$ boson production in the reaction $νγ\to W^+X$ is calculated by using the parton language. Neutrino--photon deep inelastic scattering is considered.

Transverse $Λ^0$ polarization in inclusive quasi-real photoproduction: quark scattering model

The transverse polarization of $Λ^0$ hyperons produced in the inclusive $ep$ reaction at the 27.6 GeV beam energy is assumed to appear mostly via scattering of the strange quark in a color field. Results of application of such an idea to the preliminary data of HERMES are presented. Contributions of $Σ^0$, $Ξ$, and $Σ^*$ resonances to the polarization are taken into account.

Transverse $Λ^0$ polarization in inclusive photoproduction: quark recombination model

Transverse polarization of $Λ^0$ hyperons in inclusive photoproduction at x_F>0 is tackled within the framework of the quark recombination model, which has been successfully applied to the polarization of different hyperons in a variety of unpolarized hadron-hadron reactions. The results are compared with recent experimental data of HERMES.
