A note on essentially left $ϕ$-contractible Banach algebras

In this note, we show that \cite[Corollary 3.2]{sad} is not always true. In fact, we characterize essential left $ϕ$-contractibility of the the group algebras in the term of compactness of its related locally compact group. Also we show that for any compact commutative group $G$, $L^{2}(G)$ is always essentially left $ϕ$-contractible. We discuss essential left $ϕ$-contractibility of some Fourier algebras.

On the existence of an ultra central approximate identity for certain semigroup algebras

In this paper we characterize the existance of an ultra central approximate identity for $\ell^{1}(S)$, where $S$ is a uniformly locally finite inverse semigroup. As an application, for the Brandt semigroup $S=M^{0}(G,I)$ over a non-empty set $I$, we show that $\ell^{1}(S)$ has an ultra central approximate identity if and only if $I$ is finite.
