Young and rough differential inclusions

We define in this work a notion of Young differential inclusion $$ dz_t \in F(z_t)dx_t, $$ for an $α$-Holder control $x$, with $α>1/2$, and give an existence result for such a differential system. As a by-product of our proof, we show that a bounded, compact-valued, $γ$-Hölder continuous set-valued map on the interval $[0,1]$ has a selection with finite $p$-variation, for $p>1/γ$. We also give a notion of solution to the rough differential inclusion $$ dz_t \in F(z_t)dt + G(z_t)d{\bf X}_t, $$ for an $α$-Holder rough path $\bf X$ with $α\in \left(\frac{1}{3},\frac{1}{2}\right]$, a set-valued map $F$ and a single-valued one form $G$. Then, we prove the existence of a solution to the inclusion when $F$ is bounded and lower semi-continuous with compact values, or upper semi-continuous with compact and convex values.

Propagation of chaos for mean field rough differential equations

We address propagation of chaos for large systems of rough differential equations associated with random rough differential equations of mean field type $$ dX_t = V(X_t,\mathcal{L}(X_t))dt + F(X_t,\mathcal{L}(X_t))dW_t $$ where $W$ is a random rough path and $\mathcal{L}(X_t)$ is the law of $X_t$. We prove propagation of chaos, and provide also an explicit optimal convergence rate. The analysis is based upon the tools we developed in our companion paper [1] for solving mean field rough differential equations and in particular upon a corresponding version of the Itô-Lyons continuity theorem. The rate of convergence is obtained by a coupling argument developed first by Sznitman for particle systems with Brownian inputs.

Paracontrolled calculus for quasilinear singular PDEs

We develop further in this work the high order paracontrolled calculus setting to deal with the analytic part of the study of quasilinear singular PDEs. A number of continuity results for some operators are proved for that purpose. Unlike the regularity structures approach of the subject by Gerencser and Hairer, and Otto, Sauer, Smith and Weber, or Furlan and Gubinelli' study of the two dimensional quasilinear parabolic Anderson model equation, we do not use parametrised families of models or paraproducts to set the scene. We use instead infinite dimensional paracontrolled structures that we introduce here.

Paracontrolled calculus and regularity structures

We start in this work the study of the relation between the theory of regularity structures and paracontrolled calculus. We give a paracontrolled representation of the reconstruction operator and provide a natural parametrization of the space of admissible models.

High order paracontrolled calculus

We develop in this work a general version of paracontrolled calculus that allows to treat analytically within this paradigm some singular partial differential equations with the same efficiency as regularity structures. This work deals with the analytic side of the story and offers a toolkit for the study of such equations, under the form of a number of continuity results for some operators. We illustrate the efficiency of this elementary approach on the examples of the 3-dimensional generalised parabolic Anderson model equation and the generalised KPZ equation driven by a (1+1)-dimensional space/time white noise.

Solving mean field rough differential equations

We provide in this work a robust solution theory for random rough differential equations of mean field type $$ dX_t = V(X_t,\mathcal{L}(X_t))dt + F(X_t,\mathcal{L}(X_t))dW_t, $$ where $W$ is a random rough path and $\mathcal{L}(X_t)$ stands for the law of $X_t$, with mean field interaction in both the drift and diffusivity. The analysis requires the introduction of a new rough path-like setting and an associated notion of controlled path. We use crucially Lions' approach to differential calculus on Wasserstein space along the way.

On the definition of a solution to a rough differential equation

We give an elementary proof that Davie's definition of a solution to a rough differential equation and the notion of solution given by Bailleul in (Flows driven by rough paths) coincide. This provides an alternative point on view on the deep algebraic insights of Cass and Weidner in their work (Tree algebras over topological vector spaces in rough path theory).

Rough flows

We introduce in this work a concept of rough driver that somehow provides a rough path-like analogue of an enriched object associated with time-dependent vector fields. We use the machinery of approximate flows to build the integration theory of rough drivers and prove well-posedness results for rough differential equations on flows and continuity of the solution flow as a function of the generating rough driver. We show that the theory of semi-martingale stochastic flows developed in the 80's and early 90's fits nicely in this framework, and obtain as a consequence some strong approximation results for general semimartingale flows and provide a fresh look at large deviation theorems for 'Gaussian' stochastic flows.

Unbounded rough drivers

We propose a theory of linear differential equations driven by unbounded operator-valued rough signals. As an application we consider rough linear transport equations and more general linear hyperbolic symmetric systems of equations driven by time-dependent vector fields which are only distributions in the time direction.

Space-time paraproducts for paracontrolled calculus, 3d-PAM and multiplicative Burgers equations

We sharpen in this work the tools of paracontrolled calculus in order to provide a complete analysis of the parabolic Anderson model equation and Burgers system with multiplicative noise, in a $3$-dimensional Riemannian setting, in either bounded or unbounded domains. With that aim in mind, we introduce a pair of intertwined space-time paraproducts on parabolic Hölder spaces, with good continuity, that happens to be pivotal and provides one of the building blocks of higher order paracontrolled calculus.

Rough flows and homogenization in stochastic turbulence

We provide in this work a tool-kit for the study of homogenisation of random ordinary differential equations, under the form of a friendly-user black box based on the tehcnology of rough flows. We illustrate the use of this setting on the example of stochastic turbulence.

Heat semigroup and singular PDEs

We provide in this work a semigroup approach to the study of singular PDEs, in the line of the paracontrolled approach developed recently by Gubinelli, Imkeller and Perkowski. Starting from a heat semigroup, we develop a functional calculus and introduce a paraproduct based on the semigroup, for which commutator estimates and Schauder estimates are proved, together with their paracontrolled extensions. This machinery allows us to investigate singular PDEs in potentially unbounded Riemannian manifolds under mild geometric conditions. As an illustration, we study the generalized parabolic Anderson model equation and prove, under mild geometric conditions, its well-posed character in Holders spaces, in small time on a potentially unbounded 2-dimensional Riemannian manifold, for an equation driven by a weighted noise, and for all times for the linear parabolic Anderson model equation in 2-dimensional unbounded manifolds. This machinery can be extended to an even more singular setting and deal with Sobolev scales of spaces rather than Holder spaces.

Regularity of the Ito-Lyons map

We show in this note that the Ito-Lyons solution map associated to a rough differential equation is Frechet differentiable when understood as a map between some Banach spaces of controlled paths. This regularity result provides an elementary approach to Taylor-like expansions of Inahama-Kawabi type for solutions of rough differential equations depending on a small parameter, and makes the construction of some natural dynamics on the path space over any compact Riemannian manifold straightforward, giving back Driver's flow as a particular case.

The inverse problem for rough controlled differential equations

We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a rough control driving a differential equation to be reconstructable, to some order, from observing the resulting controlled evolution. Physical examples and applications in stochastic filtering and statistics demonstrate the practical relevance of our result.

A Stochastic Algorithm for Parametric Sensitivity in Smoluchowski's Coagulation Equation

In this article a stochastic particle system approximation to the parametric sensitivity in the Smoluchowski coagulation equation is introduced. The parametric sensitivity is the derivative of the solution to the equation with respect to some parameter, where the coagulation kernel depends on this parameter. It is proved that the particle system converges weakly to the sensitivity as the number of particles N increases. A Monte Carlo algorithm is developed and variance reduction techniques are applied. Numerical experiments are conducted for two kernels: the additive kernel and one which has been used for studying soot formation in a free molecular regime. It is shown empirically that the techniques for variance reduction are indeed very effective and that the order of convergence is O(1/N). The algorithm is then compared to an algorithm based on a finite difference approximation to the sensitivity and it is found that the variance of the sensitivity estimators are considerably lower than that for the finite difference approach. Furthermore, two methods of establishing `efficiency' are considered and the new algorithm is found to be significantly more efficient.
