Molecular effects in low-energy muon transfer from muonic hydrogen to oxygen

In the present study we determine from the available experimental data the cross section of muon transfer to molecular oxygen at low energies with account of the oxygen molecule structure. Building on an earlier work, the results highlight the role of the molecular structure effects and signifcantly improve the agreement with theoretical calculations of the muon transfer rate. An effcient computational model of the kinetics of processes involving muonic hydrogen atoms in gaseous mixture of H2 and O2 is developed and analyzed. The model is applied in the description of the FAMU experiment for the measurement of the hyperfine splitting in muonic hydrogen and the Zemach radius of the proton.

An analytic model for description of muonic oxygen X-ray time distribution in muonic experiments

We propose an analytical model and perform numerical simulations to study the time distribution of the characteristic muonic oxygen X-ray emission following muon transfer from muonic hydrogen to oxygen in a $H_2+O_2$ gas mixture. The model accounts for all fundamental processes that alter the kinetic energy and spin distribution of muonic hydrogen atoms. The impact of the uncertainties in various experimental parameters on the precision of the computed results is studied in detail by means of Monte Carlo method. Verification against available experimental data reveals the potential of this approach for both description and parameter optimization in planning and analysis of muonic experiments.

Control of a qubit state by a soliton propagating through a Heisenberg spin chain

We demonstrate that nonlinear magnetic solitary excitations (solitons) traveling through a Heisenberg spin chain may be used as a robust tool capable of coherent control of the qubit's state. The physical problem is described by a Hamiltonian involving the interaction between the soliton and the qubit. We show that under certain conditions the generic Hamiltonian may be mapped on that of a qubit two-level system with matrix elements depending on the soliton parameters. We considered the action of a bright and a dark solitons depending on the driving nonlinear wave function. We considered a local interaction restricted the closest to the qubit spin in the chain. We computed the expressions of the physical quantities of interest for all cases and analyzed their behavior in some special limits.

Dynamics of a periodic $XY$ chain coupled to a photon mode

We study the real-time dynamics of a periodic $XY$ system exposed to a composite field comprised of a constant homogeneous magnetic and a quantized circularly polarized electromagnetic fields. The interaction between the quantized mode and spin-magnetic moments is modeled by the Dicke Hamiltonian. The rotating wave approximation is applied and the conditions for its validity are discussed. It is shown that if initially all of the excitations are contained in the field, then in the regime of large detuning, the main evolutionary effect involves oscillations of the excitations between the zero-momentum modes of the chain and the field. Accordingly, the reduced photon number and magnetization per site reveal a sort of oscillatory behavior. Effective Hamiltonians describing the short-time dynamics of the present model for small number of excitations and large detuning are introduced. The resonance case is considered in the context of photon emission from the chain initially prepared in the (partially) excited state. In particular, it is demonstrated, in the framework of a specific example, that the superradiant behavior shows up at the beginning of the emission, when we have an initial state with a maximally excited $XY$ chain. Possible applications of the model to problems such as spin chain and $J$-aggregate in a single-mode cavity are discussed.

The dispersion method and dimensional regularization applied to the decay $H \to Z γ$

We have calculated the $W$-loop contribution to the amplitude of the decay $H \to Z γ$ in the unitary gauge through the dispersion method and in the $R_ξ$ gauge using dimensional regularization (DimReg). We show that the results of the calculations with DimReg and the dispersion method, adopting the boundary condition at the limit $M_W \to 0$ defined by the Goldstone boson equivalence theorem (GBET), completely coincide. This implies that the dispersion method obeying the GBET is compatible with DimReg. The advantage of the applied dispersion method is that we work with finite quantities and no regularization is required.

Dispersion theoretic calculation of the $H\rightarrow Z+γ$ amplitude

We have calculated the $W$-loop contribution to the amplitude of the decay $H\rightarrow Z+γ$ in two different methods: 1) in the $R_ξ$-gauge using dimensional regularization (DimReg), and 2) in the unitary gauge through the dispersion method. Using the dispersion method we have followed two approaches: i) without subtraction and ii) with subtraction, the subtraction constant being determined adopting the Goldstone boson equivalence theorem (GBET) at the limit $M_W\to 0$. The results of the calculations in $R_ξ$-gauge with DimReg and the dispersion method with the GBET completely coincide, which shows that DimReg is compatible with the dispersion method obeying the GBET.
