Spectrometry of Captured Highly Charged Ions Produced Following Antiproton Annihilations

We report a proof-of-principle study demonstrating the first capture and time-of-flight spectrometry of highly charged ions (HCIs) produced following antiproton annihilations in a Penning-Malmberg trap. A multi-step nested-trap technique was developed using the \aegis\ experiment to identify annihilation-linked captured ions. The trapping and spectrometry of helium and argon ions demonstrates the approach. This work establishes a foundation for the in-trap synthesis of radioactive HCIs and the study of cold nuclear annihilation fragments, with the long-term goal of enabling a sensitive tool for probing the outer nuclear periphery.

Injection Scheme with Deflecting Cavity for Ultimate Storage Ring

We suggest a new on-axis injection scheme that uses two deflecting cavities to remove the tilt of the stored beam, and to kick the injected beam into the ring. In this new injection scheme, an injected beam with a certain angle is overlaid on the stored beam position in transverse phase space through the second deflecting cavity. (Note that the injected beam has separated phase with the stored beam in longitudinal phase space). We present theoretical analysis and numerical simulations of the stored beam and injected beam with the new injection scheme.

Bulges of Two Barred Galaxies: NGC 3412 and NGC 3941

We have conducted near-infrared (J- and H-band) surface photometry for two early type barred galaxies, NGC 3412 and NGC 3941. The bulges of NGC 3412 and NGC 3941 show isophotal twists which indicate that they are triaxial. NGC 3412 has a very short bar and its bulge is more centrally concentrated than that of NGC 3941. The unusually short bar and the centrally concentrated triaxial bulge of NGC 3412 might be the result of bar dissolution. The colors of the nuclear region of NGC 3941 resemble those of the blue nuclei, implying the presence of young stellar populations.
