Three loop soft running, benchmark points and semi-perturbative unification

We consider three-loop $β$-function corrections to the sparticle spectrum in the MSSM, with particular emphasis on Snowmass Benchmark points. The three loop running has little effect on the weakly interacting particle spectrum, but for the squark masses the effect can be comparable to, or greater than, that of two loop running. We extend the analysis to the semi-perturbative unification scenario, where the impact of the three loop corrections becomes even more dramatic.

Yukawa Textures and the mu-term

We show how with an anomaly-free U(1), simple assumptions concerning the origin of Yukawa textures and the Higgs mu-term lead to the prediction of a new physics scale of 10^8GeV and automatic conservation of baryon number.

Yukawa Textures and Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

We present a detailed analysis of how a mixed-anomaly-free U(1) symmetry can be used to both resolve the slepton mass problem associated with Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking and generate the fermion mass hierarchy via the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism. Flavour changing neutral currents problems are evaded by a specific form of the Yukawa textures.

General classical solutions in the noncommutative CP^(N-1) model

We give an explicit construction of general classical solutions for the noncommutative CP^(N-1) model in two dimensions, showing that they correspond to integer values for the action and topological charge. We also give explicit solutions for the Dirac equation in the background of these general solutions and show that the index theorem is satisfied.

Fayet-Iliopoulos D-terms, neutrino masses and anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking

We explore, in the context of the MSSM generalised to admit massive neutrinos, an extension of the Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking solution for the soft scalar masses to incorporate Fayet-Iliopoulos D-terms. The slepton mass problem characteristic of the scenario is resolved, and the fermion mass hierarchy is explained via the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism. FCNC problems are evaded by a combination of universal doublet charges and Yukawa textures which are diagonalised by transforming the left-handed fields only.

Gauge singlet renormalisation in softly-broken supersymmetric theories

We consider the renormalisation of a softly-broken supersymmetric theory with singlet fields and a superpotential with a linear term. We show that there exist exact beta-functions for both the linear term in the superpotential and the associated linear term in the Lagrangian. We also construct exact renormalisation group invariant trajectories for these terms, corresponding to the conformal anomaly solution for the soft masses and couplings.

The Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term and its renormalisation in the MSSM

We consider the renormalisation of the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term in a softly-broken supersymmetric gauge theory with a non-simple gauge group containing an abelian factor, and present the associated beta-function through three loops. We also include in an appendix the result for several abelian factors. We specialise to the case of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), and investigate the behaviour of the Fayet-Iliopoulos coupling for various boundary conditions at the unification scale. We focus particularly on the case of non-standard soft supersymmetry breaking couplings, for which the Fayet-Iliopoulos coupling evolves significantly between the unification scale and the weak scale.

R-symmetry, Yukawa textures and anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking

We explore, in the MSSM context, an extension of the Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking solution for the soft scalar masses that is possible if the underlying theory has a gauged R-symmetry. The slepton mass problem characteristic of the scenario is resolved, and a context for the explanation of the fermion mass hierarchy provided.

The Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term and its renormalisation in softly-broken supersymmetric theories

We consider the renormalisation of the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term in a softly-broken abelian supersymmetric theory, and calculate the associated beta-function through three loops. We show that there exists (at least through three loops) a renormalisation group invariant trajectory for the coefficient of the D-term, corresponding to the conformal anomaly solution for the soft masses and couplings.

Fayet-Iliopoulos D-terms and anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking

We show that in a minimal extension of the MSSM by means of an extra U(1) gauge group, the negative mass-squared problem characteristic of the Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking scenario is naturally solved by means of Fayet-Iliopoulos D-terms. We derive a set of sum rules for the sparticle masses which are consequences of the resulting framework.

O(d,d) invariance at two and three loops

We show that in a two-dimensional sigma-model whose fields only depend on one target space co-ordinate, the O(d,d) invariance of the conformal invariance conditions observed at one loop is preserved at two loops (in the general case with torsion) and at three loops (in the case without torsion).

Renormalisation of the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term

We consider the renormalisation of the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term in a softly-broken Abelian supersymmetric theory. We show that there exists (at least through three loops) a renormalisation group invariant trajectory for the coefficient of the D-term, corresponding to the conformal anomaly solution for the soft masses and couplings.

Quasi-infra-red fixed points and renormalisation group invariant trajectories for non-holomorphic soft supersymmetry breaking

In the MSSM the quasi-infra-red fixed point for the top-quark Yukawa coupling gives rise to specific predictions for the soft-breaking parameters. We discuss the extent to which these predictions are modified by the introduction of additional ``non-holomorphic'' soft-breaking terms. We also show that in a specific class of theories there exists an RG-invariant trajectory for the ``non-holomorphic'' terms, which can be understood using a holomorphic spurion term.

RG invariant solutions for the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters

We show that the results for the soft couplings in supersymmetric gauge theories recently derived via the superconformal anomaly are equivalent to results obtained earlier from a consideration of exact RG-invariant trajectories. We give a full proof of these results for a general multi-coupling theory. Moreover, we demonstrate the existence of a distinct finite RG-invariant solution for the soft couplings in the case when the unbroken supersymmetric theory is finite.
