Detection of collective optic excitations in molten NaI

High-resolution inelastic x-ray scattering measurements were carried out on molten NaI near the melting point at 680$^\circ$C at SPring-8. Small and damped indications of longitudinal optic excitation modes were observed on the tails of the longitudinal acoustic modes at small momentum transfers, $Q\sim5$ nm$^{-1}$. The measured spectra are in good agreement, in both frequency and linewidth, with {\it ab initio} molecular dynamics (MD) simulations but not classical MD simulations. The observation of these modes at small $Q$ and a good agreement with the simulation permits clear identification of these as collective optic modes with well defined phasing between different ionic motions.

The method of collective variables: a link with the density functional theory

Recently, based on the method of collective variables the statistical field theory for multicomponent inhomogeneous systems was formulated [O. Patsahan, I. Mryglod, J.-M. Caillol, Journal of Physical Studies, 2007, 11, 133]. In this letter we establish a link between this approach and the classical density functional theory for inhomogeneous fluids.

Editorial process in scientific journals: analysis and modeling

The editorial handling of papers in scientific journals as a human activity process is considered. Using recently proposed approaches of human dynamics theory we examine the probability distributions of random variables reflecting the temporal characteristics of studied processes. The first part of this paper contains our results of analysis of the real data about papers published in scientific journals. The second part is devoted to modeling of time-series connected with editorial work. The purpose of our work is to present new object that can be studied in terms of human dynamics theory and to corroborate the scientometrical application of the results obtained.

Gas-liquid critical point in ionic fluids

Based on the method of collective variables we develop the statistical field theory for the study of a simple charge-asymmetric $1:z$ primitive model (SPM). It is shown that the well-known approximations for the free energy, in particular DHLL and ORPA, can be obtained within the framework of this theory. In order to study the gas-liquid critical point of SPM we propose the method for the calculation of chemical potential conjugate to the total number density which allows us to take into account the higher order fluctuation effects. As a result, the gas-liquid phase diagrams are calculated for $z=2-4$. The results demonstrate the qualitative agreement with MC simulation data: critical temperature decreases when $z$ increases and critical density increases rapidly with $z$.
