Near Horizon Geometries and Black Hole Holograph

Two quasi local approaches to black holes are combined: Near Horizon Geometries (NHG) and stationary Black Hole Holographs (BHH). Necessary and sufficient conditions on BHH data for the emergence of NHGs as resulting vacuum solutions to Einstein's equations are found.

A giant ring-like structure at 0.78<z<0.86 displayed by GRBs

According to the cosmological principle, Universal large-scale structure is homogeneous and isotropic. The observable Universe, however, shows complex structures even on very large scales. The recent discoveries of structures significantly exceeding the transition scale of 370 Mpc pose a challenge to the cosmological principle. We report here the discovery of the largest regular formation in the observable Universe; a ring with a diameter of 1720 Mpc, displayed by 9 gamma ray bursts (GRBs), exceeding by a factor of five the transition scale to the homogeneous and isotropic distribution. The ring has a major diameter of $43^o$ and a minor diameter of $30^o$ at a distance of 2770 Mpc in the 0.78<z<0.86 redshift range, with a probability of $2\times 10^{-6}$ of being the result of a random fluctuation in the GRB count rate. Evidence suggests that this feature is the projection of a shell onto the plane of the sky. Voids and string-like formations are common outcomes of large-scale structure. However, these structures have maximum sizes of 150 Mpc, which are an order of magnitude smaller than the observed GRB ring diameter. Evidence in support of the shell interpretation requires that temporal information of the transient GRBs be included in the analysis. This ring-shaped feature is large enough to contradict the cosmological principle. The physical mechanism responsible for causing it is unknown.

Symmetries of spacetime and their relation to initial value problems

We consider covariant metric theories of coupled gravity-matter systems satisfying the following two conditions: First, it is assumed that, by a hyperbolic reduction process, a system of first order symmetric hyperbolic partial differential equations can be deduced from the matter field equations. Second, gravity is supposed to be coupled to the matter fields by requiring that the Ricci tensor is a smooth function of the basic matter field variables and the metric. It is shown then that the ``time'' evolution of these type of gravity-matter systems preserves the symmetries of initial data specifications.

Generating new perfect-fluid solutions from known ones

Stationary perfect-fluid configurations of Einstein's theory of gravity are studied. It is assumed that the 4-velocity of the fluid is parallel to the stationary Killing field, and also that the norm and the twist potential of the stationary Killing field are functionally independent. It has been pointed out earlier by one of us (I.R.) that for these perfect-fluid geometries some of the basic field equations are invariant under an $SL(2,R)$ transformation. Here it is shown that this transformation can be applied to generate possibly new perfect-fluid solutions from existing known ones only for the case of barotropic equation of state $ρ+3p=0$. In order to study the effect of this transformation, its application to known perfect-fluid solutions is presented. In this way, different previously known solutions could be written in a singe compact form. A new derivation of all Petrov type D stationary axisymmetric rigidly rotating perfect-fluid solutions with an equation of state $ρ+3p=constant$ is given in an appendix.
