Finite - temperature quantum phase transition in d - waves superconductors

The zero temperature d - wave superconductor phase transition theory given in the case of T=0 for two - dimensional superconductors (I. Herbut, PRL {\bf 85}, 1532 (2000)) is generalized for finite temperatures. The Gaussian behavior of the system is associated with a non - Fermi behavior of the normal state observed in the resistivity of cuprate superconductors.

Two-dimensional dilute Bose gas in the normal phase

We consider a two-dimensional dilute Bose gas above its superfluid transition temperature. We show that the t-matrix approximation corresponds to the leading set of diagrams in the dilute limit, provided the temperature is sufficiently larger than the superfluid transition temperature. Within this approximation, we give an explicit expression for the wave vector and frequency dependence of the self-energy, and calculate the corrections to the chemical potential and the effective mass arising from the interaction. We also argue that the breakdown of the t-matrix approximation, which occurs upon lowering the temperature, provides a simple criterion to estimate the superfluid critical temperature for the two-dimensional dilute Bose gas. The critical temperature identified by this criterion coincides with earlier results obtained by Popov and by Fisher and Hohenberg using different methods. Extension of this procedure to the three-dimensional case gives good agreement with recent Monte Carlo data.

Renormalization - group analysis of dilute Bose system in d - dimension at finite temperature

We study the d - dimensional Bose gas at finite temperature using the renormalization group method. The flow - equations and the free energy have been obtained for dimension d, and the cases d<2 and d=2 have been analysed in the limit of low and high temperatures. The critical temperature, the coherence length and the specific heat of a two dimensional Bose gas have been obtained using a solution for the coupling constant which does not present a singular behavior.

Magnetic instability of a two-dimensional Anderson non-Fermi liquid

We show that in the Anderson model for a two-dimensional non-Fermi liquid a magnetic instability can lead to the itinerant electron ferromagnetism. The critical temperature and the susceptibility of the paramagnetic phase have been analytically calculated. The usual Fermi behaviour is re-obtained taking the anomalous exponent to be zero.

Some sum rules for the non-Fermi liquids: new applications taking into account the mass renormalization factor

Re-studying the non-fermi liquid one-particle Green function (NFLGF) we have extended the work of A. Balatsky (Phil. Mag. Lett. 68, 251 (1993)) and L. Yin and S. Chakravarty (Int. J. Mod. Phys. B 10, 805 (1996)), among others. We used the moment approach of W. Nolting (Z. Phys. 255, 25 (1972)) to compute the unknown parameters of the NFLGF's in the framework of the Hubbard model. The zeroth order momentum requires that our one-particle Green function describe fermionic degrees of freedom. In order to satisfy the first order sum rule a renormalization, $γ\neq 1$, of the free electron mass is called for. The second order sum rule or moment imposes a relation between the non-Fermi liquid parameter, $α$, the Coulomb interaction, U, and the frequency cutoff, $ω_c$. We have calculated the effect of the mass renormalization factor, $γ$, on some physical quantities. As a new class of non-Fermi liquid systems, in Appendix A, we have studied two inequivalent coupled Hubbard layers for which we calculated the one-particle spectral functions on the layers and perpendicular to them. We discuss the new features which appear due to the shift in the two effective chemical potentials and proposed some experiments to detect the features founded from our expressions.

Field-Theoretical description of the crossover between BCS and BEC in a non-Fermi superconductor

Using the field-theoretical methods we studied the evolution from BCS description of a non-Fermi superconductor to that of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in one loop approximation. We showed that the repulsive interaction between composite bosons is determined by the exponent $α$ of the Anderson propagator in a two dimensional model. For $\a\neq 0$ the crossover is also continous and for $\a=0$ we obtain the case of the Fermi liquid.

Non-Fermi behavior of the disorder electronic system

We showed that an electronic system with weak disorder considered in the finite-charge infinite U Hubbard model can present a non-Fermi behavior. The imaginary pert of the self-energy has been calculated and a linear temperature dependence was obtained. This result is in agreement with the non-Fermi behavior observed at the insulator-metal crossover in La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4.

Renormalization group approach of itinerant electron systems near the Lifshitz point

Using the renormalization approach proposed by Millis for the itinerant electron systems we calculated the specific heat coefficient $γ(T)$ for the magnetic fluctuations with susceptibility $χ^{-1}\sim |δ+ω|^α+f(q)$ near the Lifshitz point. The constant value obtained for $α=4/5$ and the logarithmic temperature dependence, specific for the non-Fermi behavior, have been obtained in agreement with the experimental dat.

Fluctuation contribution to the specific heat in non-Fermi models for superconductivity

We investigate the fluctuation contribution to the specific heat of a two-dimensional superconductor with a non-Fermi normal state described by a Anderson Green's function $G(k,iω)=ω_c^{-α}/(iω-ε_k)^{1-α}$. The specific heat corrections contain a term proportional to $(T^{2α-T_c^{2α}})^{-1}$ and another logarithmic one. We defined a coherence length as function of the non-Fermi parameter $α$, which showed that a crossover study between BCS and Bose-Einstein condensation is possible by varying $α$ in an interval $0 ÷α_{cr}$. By comparing our theoretical results with the experimental data for HTSC materials, we reobtained the value for $α$, corresponding to such systems, of the order $0.3 ÷0.45$. We also reobtained the critical temperature for such a superconductor using the Thouless criterion.

Electron-fluctuation interaction in a non-Fermi superconductor

We studied the influence of the amplitude fluctuations of a non-Fermi superconductor on the energy spectrum of the 2D Anderson non-Fermi system. The classical fluctuations give a temperature dependence in the pseudogap induced in the fermionic excitations.

Flow-Equation method for a superconductor with magnetic correlations

The flow equation method has been used to calculate the energy of single impurity in a superconductor for the Anderson model with $U \neq 0$. We showed that the energy of the impurity depends only of the $Δ^{2}_{R}$ (renormalized order parameter) which depends on the renormalized Hubbard repulsion$U^R$. For a strong Hubbard repulsion $U^R = U$ and $Δ^R = Δ^I$ the effect of the $s-d$ interactions are nonrelevant, a result which is expected for this model.
